Doug Greenlaw sees his life as a series of "lightning strikes." He was literally struck by lightning when he was 13 years old, thankfully making an immediate recovery. He later left Indiana University to join the Army, become an officer, and serve in in the Vietnam War - first as a platoon commander and then as a company commander. He arrived in Vietnam in 1967.In this edition of Veterans Chronicles, Greenlaw takes us through his training, including a terrifying story from jungle training, and through his most harrowing moments in Vietnam. Greenlaw details the events of Thanksgiving Day 1967, when his platoon was dropped off in the wrong spot and quickly found itself facing a North Vietnamese battalion of 400-500 fighters. He explains the actions he took to keep his men alive until air and ground support could arrive - and he describes hand-to-hand fighting with an enemy officer in a North Vietnamese tunnel.Greenlaw also tells us his responsibilities and priorities as a platoon and company commander and how he and his men painstakingly looked out for enemy booby traps and explosives. He also reveals the extensive injuries he suffered after a soldier in his company tripped one of those wires. We'll also hear how Greenlaw's military service impacted his impressive rise as a sales and marketing executive, all the way to the top of MTV, Nickelodeon, and VH-1.Finally, we'll learn about Greenlaw's leadership with the Military Order of the Purple Heart, from leading his local chapter to serving as national commander for two years.
THE VIBEwith Kelly Cardenas presentsSPEECH - ARRESTED DEVELOPMENTTodd "Speech" Thomas is a Grammy-winning artist, poet, and trailblazing cultural icon whose impact on hip-hop, social justice, and Black culture is both profound and enduring. As the visionary leader of Arrested Development, the two-time Grammy Award-winning hip-hop collective, Speech has used music as a force for empowerment, reflection, and positive change. His artistry and activism have paved the way for generations, blending socially conscious themes with a commitment to equity, unity, and creative integrity. Since their debut in 1991, Speech and Arrested Development have been a groundbreaking influence in hip-hop, celebrated for their bold reimagining of the genre. Their debut album, 3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life of…, sold over 4 million copies and garnered numerous accolades, including Grammys for Best New Artist and Best Rap Single (“Tennessee”), two MTV Awards, a Soul Train Music Award, and an NAACP Image Award. Rolling Stone named them Band of the Year, and VH-1 recognized Arrested Development as one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time. Their hit song "Tennessee" was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of the "500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll," a testament to its lasting influence on music and culture. Speech's contributions were spotlighted in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's acclaimed documentary South Has Got Something to Say, where he remarked, “There would be no Outkast without Arrested Development”—a powerful reminder of Arrested Development's role in shaping Southern hip-hop and paving the way for future icons. Arrested Development's fusion of Afrocentric spirituality, social consciousness, and community-centered themes forged a path in hip-hop that few have rivaled, influencing artists globally and solidifying their legacy as cultural innovators. Despite these contributions, Speech and Arrested Development's pioneering role in popular culture is often underrecognized, though their influence is undeniable. In 2024, Speech's legendary status was further cemented as he joined an elite lineup performing with Queen Latifah, Common, De La Soul on the CBS Grammy Tribute to 50 Years of Hip Hop. This performance underscored his contributions to the genre, which were also recently honored by the State of Georgia with the prestigious Privilege House Resolution, recognizing his lifelong dedication to the arts, social justice, and cultural advocacy. Drummer David “Bro” Lauser and guitarist Gary Pihl go way back—to the early '80s, when they laid down the thunderous drums and scorching guitar riffs on Sammy Hagar's iconic Geffen albums. Fast forward five decades, and their ALLIANCE is still going strong! When Sammy joined Van Halen in '85, Gary jumped over to the legendary BOSTON, where he's held it down on guitar for 40 years. And when Sammy launched his post-VH solo career, guess who was his first Wabo? His "Bro," of course!Out of that tight-knit musical (ahem) circle, "Bro" and Gary helped form ALLIANCE in the '90s with singer/bassist Robert Berry and keyboardist Allan Fitzgerald. In this episode, they join the Bo-Hosts to chat about their killer new album on Frontiers Music, Before Our Eyes. They also reminisce about recording VOA (and whether live footage exists!), the possible whereabouts of their "55" jumpsuits, dig into their recording process, speculate on a VOA band reunion in Cabo, and face off in a round of RedRocker Rapid Fire. This episode took some serious calendar-juggling to make happen—so crank it up LOUD and enjoy! For more on ALLIANCE:https://www.frontiers.it/artist/2216https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmkNfnqrJCgFor more on David "Bro"Lauser:https://www.davidlauser.com/index.htmlFor more on Gary Pihl:https://garypihl.com/"What is understood...NEED be discussed"Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100085582159917Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thebogusotisshow/?hl=enConnect with the Bo-Hosts:bogusotisshow@gmail.com

On this week's motivation monday, I'm talking to Alison Arngrim. New York Times Best Selling author of Confessions of A Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated, Alison Arngrim is best known to viewers world-wide for her portrayal of the incredibly nasty “Nellie Oleson” on the much loved, long running hit television series Little House On The Prairie, and continues to amuse audiences through her many film, television, stage and multi-media appearances. Her one woman show Confessions of a Prairie Bitch, which started at Club Fez in New York in 2002, has now become a world-wide phenomenon, having been performed to packed houses in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Green Bay, San Francisco, Seattle, and in France, where Arngrim performs entirely in French to standing room only crowds in her all-French version titled: Confessions d'une Garce de La Prairie and La Malle aux Tresors de Nellie Oleson. As a stand-up comedian, Arngrim has headlined at nightclubs such as the Laugh Factory, the Comedy Store and the Improv in Los Angeles; as well as the Laurie Beechman Theatre in New York and assorted comedy venues across the United States and Canada. She is currently starring in two comedy series pilots: Life Interrupted, as the ex-wife of commercial child star Mason Reese, with Erin Murphy, (“Bewitched”) as her new wife and Dawn Wells, (“Gilligan's Island), as her mother, as well as, C.P.R. – Child Performers Resurrection Talent Agency, as an ex-child star gone wrong, trying to save herself and her assorted misfit cohorts by opening a talent agency. Arngrim has mocked her status as an “ex-child star” on Jay Leno's Tonight Show, during their month-long parody, “Hollywood Survivor” and continues to be a frequent interview subject on everything from A&E, “E! Entertainment, TV Land and VH-1, to CNN and the Travel Channel. The TV Land network honored her undying image as TV's worst bitch, by declaring her the winner of their 2006 award for, “Character Most Desperately In Need Of A Time Out.” She starred in the heartwarming, gay, Christmas cult classic, Make the Yuletide Gay, as the overbearing “Heather Mancuso.” Her other television and film appearances include, Livin' the Dream, Tinder & Grinder, The Bilderberg Club, For the Love of May with Ru Paul and Patricia Neal, and The Last Place On Earth with Billy Dee Williams and Phyllis Diller. In 2007, she began her foray into French cinema with the role of “Edith” in the French detective comedy, Jean Pierre Mocky's Le Deal. Her stage work includes, The Vagina Monologs, Sirena: Queen of the Tango, Dear Brutus, The Wool Gatherer, the French bedroom farce, In One Bed And Out The Other, Michael Kearns' AIDS/US II, “Rita” in the 2005 GLAAD Award nominated production of Last Summer At Bluefish Cove, the somewhat off kilter “Reverend Pat Miass” in Joni and Gina's Wedding, and the Ovation Award Nominated musical-drama, Flirting with Morty, as the abusive, trashy and tragic Ray Lee. In her spare time, she takes tourists on the rollicking comedy outing, Nasty Nellie's Tour of Hollywood, (featured at Dearly Departed Tours), where she simultaneously enlightens and amuses passengers with behind the scenes tales from both Hollywood history and her own life. Offstage, Arngrim has been a dedicated and compassionate AIDS activist for nearly three decades, volunteering for AIDS Project Los Angeles and Tuesday's Child, an organization assisting children and families affected by HIV and AIDS. In addition, Arngrim currently serves as California Chair, National Spokesperson and Founding Board Member on the National Advisory Board of The National Association to Protect Children, or PROTECT.org, fighting to give children a legal and political voice in the war against child abuse.

Episode Notes S6E9 -- Join us as we sit down with the one and only Rico Anderson. He'll be in the house telling tales from S.W.A.T to Get Gone and beyond. As an award winning actor, a sci fi nerd, the oldest of 11 children on his mothers side (6 biological / 5 adopted) and the 3rd of 4 children on his fathers side, Rico was born in Seaside/Monterey, CA and raised on the south side of Chicago as well as the San Francisco Bay Area. Even at that early age, Rico sat there mesmerized and amazed at the performances. Memories from that performance stuck in the back of his mind and would not surface until a few years later when his family moved to Berkeley, California. The bug bit again and Rico started performing in several plays and Independent films. Rico also majored in Theatre Arts at San Francisco State University. Eventually, Rico moved to Los Angeles and has been blessed to have many film, television, voice over and theatre credits to his name. In episode #2 of my live podcast series, "Live, Raw, Uncut & Uncensored," I'm thrilled to have Brian Jones, the former lead singer of Lillian Axe and a celebrated solo artist, join me in my living room. This passion project combines the intimate feel of two old friends catching up, with live acoustic performances, creating a unique blend reminiscent of Joe Rogan's deep dives, VH-1 Storytellers' narratives, MTV Unplugged's vibe, and the raw energy of YouTube's Rebel Sessions. If you're from or around Jackson, Mississippi, and lived through the '80s, '90s, or 2000s, this show will resonate with you, offering both nostalgia and new music in a very local, friendly setting.
We're back for our first show of 2025, and we're bringing back our good friend Paul Logue of Eden's Curse and James LaBrie's solo band! After the success of our Empire deep dive, Paul asked if he could come back and talk some Van Halen – twist our arms! Paul chose 1991's banger For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge – this is one of Jon's favorite albums, so this promises to be a great discussion about a truly standout record from the VH catalog!

Happy New Year and Darren and Steve return, talking about new activity around David Lee Roth: the just-announced, forthcoming 5 CD/5 LP box set featuring the first five DLR solo releases (Crazy from the Heat, Eat 'Em and Smile, Skyscraper, A Little Ain't Enough and Your Filthy Little Mouth), new Dave's assorted "pot label" videos, and the recent Van Halen Argentina 1983 show on You Tube. Plus, the awesome DavidLeeRothNewsDesk.com and ruminating on full songs in the VH vaults - when were these recorded? And Darren has a perfectly logical theory on DLR making an appearance at the upcoming, Irving Azoff-produced Fire Aid concert, that will benefit communities devastated by wildfires in Southern California.
