¿Alguna vez has sentido esa fatiga extraña al pasar los 1.500 metros? ¿Esas piernas pesadas que no entienden por qué van tan lentas? Tranquilo, no eres tú: es la altitud jugando sus cartas. ¿Qué le pasa a tu cuerpo? A partir de los 2.000 metros, cada respiración trae menos oxígeno. Tu corazón se acelera, tus pulsaciones se disparan y a los 3.000 metros puedes perder hasta un 20% de tu rendimiento. Es como correr con un limitador invisible. El "Entrenamiento de los Pobres" ¿No puedes entrenar en los Alpes? No hay problema. El heat training es tu aliado secreto. Sal a correr al mediodía, métete en la sauna post-entreno, o haz series con calor. Los estudios muestran mejoras del 7% en resistencia solo con 10 días de entrenamiento con calor. Consejos para el Día D Llega con tiempo: 5-7 días antes o menos de 24 horas (evita esos días 2-3 donde el cuerpo sufre más). Hidrátate como nunca: En altura pierdes más líquido y no te das cuenta. Sal MÁS LENTO: Tu percepción te engaña. Si jadeas en el km 2, ya vas mal. Come hidratos extra: Tu cuerpo quema más combustible en altura. La Mentalidad Correcta En altura no gana el más rápido, sino el más inteligente. Cada paso sobre 2.000 metros es una victoria personal. Acepta que irás más lento y disfruta del desafío. " ...definitely we're underrepresented and I think especially with the state of our country and the world now, it can be really scary to put yourself out there." Ari Hendrix is the third fastest US-Born African American marathoner (2:35, CIM 2022), and ran the 2024 US Olympic Team Trials Marathon in 2024. She works for HOKA and lives in Portland with her wife and two dogs.  Ari joined the Lane 9 podcast to talk about her recent move to the trails, on which she's already had some success! She recently finished 9th in her 50K debut at the 2025 Canyons Endurance Run by UTMB, and also happened to win a road 5K in Portland this spring.
