Send us a text#357 - There may be a time when something happens in our lives that completely upends our running plans. Maybe we have a serious injury or we lose our job or we go through a divorce. Whatever life-changing event it is, there are ways we can handle it that may help us to get through and still see that small light ahead. Not all is lost! Have faith. In my past, I have not always handled big changes the best, and I've had to learn how to manage them in better, more productive manners. Changes happen, we can't stop them from taking place, but we can work to make sure that these changes don't completely hurt our lives. And, in those rare times that the changes are so great there is not much we can do, we still need to remember that small light in the distance. It's there and it will always be there. Shirley and Jon Steele are the powerhouse duo behind one of the UK's most loved ultra series, a grassroots trail running community that's as tough as it is tender. From the brutal beauty of the 110 to the family feel of the 10Ks, they've created more than events, they've created belonging. In this episode, we talk about how it all began, the chaos and joy of race directing, and the moments that have made it all worthwhile. Whether you're a Hardmoors veteran or just trail-curious, this one's for anyone who believes that running can change lives, and that mud, hills, and kindness are a pretty unbeatable combo.Links to friends, partners, sponsors & discount codes - https://linktr.ee/teaandtrails?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=1c86b2f1-b04b-4dab-bd2f-dddf47358fa3XMILES UK - Listeners receive 10% of their order value back as store credit via the link - https://xmiles.avln.me/c/RiwxnARvfHeRFenixlight Limited - Use code T&T5 for 5% - https://www.fenixlight.co.uk/Protein Rebel - Use code Tea15 for 15% off your first order - https://proteinrebel.com/Precision Fuel & Hydration - https://visit.pfandh.com/3GKxHjUPrecision Fuel & Hydration Planner - https://visit.pfandh.com/3RuP25zHarrier - Use code TEA10 for 10% off - https://harrierrunfree.co.uk/The information in our content is provided as an information resource and is not to be used or relied on for any diagnostic or treatment purposes. Amanda Watts and Tom O'Halloran are back. So what's been happening in the Baffle House. The climbing froth has been going up and down. What has that looked like? The injuries have been coming and going and coming again. How have we navigated that?Trail running has been in and out the door a few times. There's a surprising amount of lessons we've drawn from running. How will it help our climbing? Plus we've realised there hasn't been nearly enough adventures in our lives. We want some long days on bigger walls. We want to see new places and experience new things. We want a day, year and life we can look back on and think, 'that was pretty awesome.' We talk about all this and a bit more in this weeks episode.

Olympic bronze medalist Molly Seidel joins Hilary Yang and Katie Asmuth for a candid, thoughtful conversation about rebuilding her relationship with running and stepping into the trail world with intention. She opens up about the long recovery from a broken patella, the emotional work that reshaped her approach to training, and how her anthropology background influences the way she sees sport and culture. Molly shares why trail running feels like the right place for her joy, creativity, and durability right now, how Austin and Flagstaff each support a different side of her life, and what it has meant to find a healthier balance outside of racing. She also reflects on dropping out of the New York City Marathon to protect her progress, learning the logistics of ultras, and future trail goals with equal parts humility and ambition. It's a grounded, refreshingly human look at an athlete redefining success and finding the confidence to build a career on her own terms. This episode is edited and produced by the Sandyboy Productions Podcast Network.A big shout out to our new sponsor Precision Fuel & Hydration. With both of us in between races, with a bit of time on our hands we decided to review some of our favourite running films and documentaries. As is very much par for the course, we veered off and ended up covering non-running films that inspire us too as well as discussing which one of our races would have been the best story for the silver screen

Sarah Perry just set the women's Backyard Ultra world record with an astonishing 95 laps, covering 637 kilometers over 95 hours at Big's Backyard Ultra World Championship in Tennessee. That's nearly 400 miles of relentless 4.167-mile loops, run every hour on the hour, until only one runner remains. Sarah was the last woman standing. And in doing so, she didn't just break records, she broke expectations.A maths teacher and mountain rescue volunteer from Cumbria, Sarah brings grit, grace, and a touch of trail-running magic to everything she does. In this episode, we dive into the highs, the lows, and the surreal moments of her record-breaking run. From IT band pain and heat exhaustion to the joy of pushing past what she thought was possible, Sarah's story is one of endurance, humility, and joy.Mountain Rescue fundraosing link - https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/qr/QWwqMgZy?utm_campaign=sharemodal&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=shortlinkLinks to friends, partners, sponsors & discount codes - https://linktr.ee/teaandtrails?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=1c86b2f1-b04b-4dab-bd2f-dddf47358fa3XMILES UK - Listeners receive 10% of their order value back as store credit via the link - https://xmiles.avln.me/c/RiwxnARvfHeRFenixlight Limited - Use code T&T5 for 5% - https://www.fenixlight.co.uk/Protein Rebel - Use code Tea15 for 15% off your first order - https://proteinrebel.com/Precision Fuel & Hydration - https://visit.pfandh.com/3GKxHjUPrecision Fuel & Hydration Planner - https://visit.pfandh.com/3RuP25zHarrier - Use code TEA10 for 10% off - https://harrierrunfree.co.uk/Content may contain affiliate links which help support and grow this channel at no extra cost to you. Send us a textIn episode #158 we talk with runner and gravel cyclist Anna Gibson about:Her approach to fueling and hydration in training and racesHeat training and adaptationSupplement strategies and lab testing to determine biomarkersAnna Gibson was raised on the edge of Grand Teton National Park. What's now considered“training” began simply as time in the mountains with family and friends, doing what she loved. Originally aspiring to become a pro ski racer, Anna was a competitive runner and nordic ski racer in high school. Her ski racing career culminated with an individual title at the cross-country skiing Junior National Championships in 2017, but she went on to pursue running at the University of Washington, where she competed in the Pac-12 while earning her undergraduate degree and Masters. There she anchored her team's Distance Medley Relay to a new NCAA record, but she spent her summers trail racing, with a few notable performances. After a 4th place finish at her 1st Mountain Running World Cup in France, and wins in both the VK and 11k at The Rut, she put competing internationally in trail running on her radar. She still loves to explore on her bike, and spend winters skinning up mountains. Anna now competes in track/road and trail events for Brooks, but still prioritizes her other outdoor pursuits, billing herself as an “all-types-of-running-plus-some-other-sports athlete. She continues to achieve notable results on the trail, most recently coming in 3rd at the Trail Running World Champs and 10th in the Golden Trail Series Final, as well as 3rd at the 2025 Broken Arrow Skyrace 23k, 1st in the 2025 Broken Arrow Ascent, and 1st Overall in the Sunapee Scramble. She also recently took 10th at the 2025 SBT GRVL.Connect with Anna:IG: www.instagram.com/annaagibsonn/Mentioned:Supplements Mini-CourseMomentous Protein/Creatine: https://amzn.to/3WolHwq Eye Mask: https://amzn.to/49nmNzZTempur-Pedic Mattress Pad: https://amzn.to/4oiUnfsMaurten Gels/Drink Mix: https://amzn.to/47M30ZOPrecision Hydration Gels: https://amzn.to/47rF0tDSIS Gels: https://amzn.to/47dQfr1Core2 Sensor on MORE NR New customers save 10% off all products on our website with the code NEWPOD10 If you would like to work with our practitioners, click here: https://nutritional-revolution.com/work-with-us/ Save 50% off your 1st Trifecta Nutrition order with code NR50: https://trifectanutrition.llbyf9.net/qnNk05 Save 20% on all supplements at our trusted online source: https://us.fullscript.com/welcome/kchannell Join Nutritional Revolution's The Feed Club to get $20 off right away with an additional $20 Feed credit drop every 90 days.: https://thefeed.com/teams/nutritional-revolution If you're interested in sponsoring Nutritional Revolution Podcast, shoot us an email at nutritionalrev@gmail.com.

Trail running is growing fast — but is the money for athlete deals keeping up? In this episode, athlete agent Kelly Newlon returns to the show to unpack the latest economics behind athlete-brand partnerships in 2025. From $10K rookie contracts to six-figure base deals, Kelly breaks down who's getting paid, why it's finally improving for pros, and which brands and races hold the most weight in negotiations. We cover:How athlete compensation has shifted in the last two yearsThe truth about social media “deliverables” vs. performance bonusesWhat brands actually value — and why some athletes still get left outThe rise of non-endemic deals (cars, banks, healthcare)If you've always been curious about what “contract season” really looks like in trail running, this is a great look inside.Additional Episodes:#355 - Tara Dower Signs Ground-Breaking Deal with Altra (Our Analysis)#135 - Kelly Newlon | Real Athlete Diets, Crewing FKT Projects, Athlete Sponsorship ThoughtsPartners:Norda - check out the 005: the lightest, fastest, most stable trail racing shoe ever made (https://nordarun.com/)Gorewear - use code SINGLETRACKPOD30 at checkout on their website (bit.ly/3JVNIbL) to get 30% off your purchase.Naak - use code SINGLETRACK15 at checkout on their website (https://www.naak.com/) to get 15% off your purchase.Raide - Making equipment for efficient human-powered movement in the mountains (https://raideresearch.com/)deltaG Ketones - use code Singletrack20 at checkout on their website to get 20% off your next order (https://partners.deltagketones.com/SINGLETRACK20)Events:Register for the 2026 Buffalo RunRegister for 2026 Twisted Fork Trail FestivalAdditional Links:Follow Finn on Instagram, Strava, Youtube, and PatreonFollow Kelly on Instagram, Website, LinkedInSupport the show
Send us a text#353 - Every runner at some moment gets bored with our training. Maybe we're running the same routes, maybe we feel like nothing is ever changing, maybe we just feel "blah" when we head out for a run. I did an earlier episode how to make running more exciting if we get the Blahs, but this week, I'm focusing on one small part of that previous episode by giving you suggestions how to turn your training runs into "fun runs". It's not hard and may bring a new spark to your training! The medal in the picture is from a virtual race I did in 2020! I also have a website and app I want to suggest to help you plot out your running routes. I have no association with either of them, I just like them better than the others I've tried. Send us a textA month after Canfranc, the dust has settled but the stories still sting—sometimes literally. We sat down with Team USA leaders Paul Kirsch and Tom Hooper to unpack a world championship defined by raw terrain, tight logistics, and athletes who found another gear when it mattered most. If you watched the medals, you saw the headlines. If you listen here, you'll hear the blueprint. We start where results are made: planning. Paul and Tom pull back the curtain on selection debates, athlete travel, hotel puzzles, kit approvals, and an aid station operation designed for seconds, not comfort. Imagine three staff crewing a dozen athletes off a single table while frost slicks the rocks, ground wasps erupt near the trail, and two bulls jog past a sunrise checkpoint. That's the reality of world-level trail—messy, improvised, and relentlessly precise. From there we dig into racing. The long and short trail routes tilted skyward and technical, but champions like Jim Walmsley and Katie Schide still rose, proving that range and resilience travel across terrain. Hillary Gerardi stepped from VK to 80K to keep the team whole. Short trail newcomers like Jane and Ruby showed composure well beyond their caps. The vertical and classic squads highlighted rising stars—Anna Gibson, Cam Smith—and real team tactics, with athletes working together late to lock in points, cross-country style. Meanwhile, U20 athletes arrived with true mountain chops, signaling a pipeline ready to meet a deeper, more global field that now includes full squads from Uganda and Kenya and breakthrough team medals from nations like Canada. We also talk about the gap that still holds the sport back: brand buy-in. Many athletes earn no bonuses for worlds and must choose between country and paycheck. With more sponsor support—following models we already see in track and the Olympics—world championships could become the premier stage they deserve to be. South Africa is next, and with the right mix of citizen races, media, and partners, the scene could match the spectacle.Hit play for a candid, inside look at how Team USA turned chaos into podiums and why the future of mountain and trail running has never looked brighter. Special guest host Dimity McDowell talks with three women who recently joined her in northern Minnesota to take on the Grand Traverse, a multi-distance trail event. The conversations include how: -one woman found grace for herself with not being able to run as she'd hoped; —one a trail runner uncovered the courage to tackle trails solo; —the unexpected heat grounded one woman; and, —doing something challenging, especially as you get older, is always a great call. Lewis Wu is one of my running training partners and someone I've shared many trail adventures with: long climbs, heat, altitude, fatigue, and plenty of laughs. As the CEO of COROS, he didn't fall in love with running right away; it was data, curiosity, and steady progress that drew him in. From those first “boring” miles to recently finishing a brutal 100K, Lewis has built endurance with patience, consistency, and a willingness to keep showing up no matter how hard it gets.
