Right now there's remarkably little regulations in homeschooling. In ten states in the United States, homeschooling is completely unregulated. And in 15 more, parents only have to notify their school district that their kids will be learning at home. There are no minimum educational standards for teachers, no curriculum review, no testing or monitoring to make sure that any education is taking place at all. In the United States, approximately 4200 indigenous people go missing and are murdered. All unsolved. Although it is thought these numbers are way higher due to underreporting. We will get to that over the next couple of months. But even at the official numbers, these are alarming rates. Break up violence is common in relationships that were physically abusive. According to the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence, “women in abusive relationships are about 500 times more at risk when they leave”. However, break up violence can occur even if there was no history of violence. The Ohio Violence Free Coalition has made a strong effort to inform parents about break up violence which is an ongoing issue amongst teens and young adults. According to their studies, “a person is more likely to be seriously injured and killed after a break up. And in 20% of relationship homicides, the killing itself was the first act of violence”. If anything, I hope the tragic cases we will talk about this week will serve as a reminder to take extra safety precautions when dealing with a potentially violent ex. 4 Amy Wensley3 Heather Stamper2 James Barry1 Cristina ProdanFacebook /mysteriouslylistedTwitter @mysteriouslistMusic is by Myuu See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

It is always frightening when a person vanishes. And law enforcement always look at the circumstances surrounding the disappearance in their investigation. There are quite a few cases where someone disappears while under the influence. Heck. It sparked a whole urban legend in the Smiley Face Killer. Alcohol slows downs the brain, leading to not only to the body’s delayed responses but also more risky behaviours. A dangerous combination. A person who goes missing under the influence of alcohol makes them more vulnerable to potential predators and less aware of potential surrounding dangers.
