How can the illiterate read the Scriptures? Through animation and heart-language engagement, iBIBLE connects deeply with both children and adults in remote areas—many of whom are seeing the Bible in their language for the very first time. In this episode of The Mission Matters, Matthew Ellison speaks with Steve Cleary, founder of Revelation Media and Executive Producer of iBIBLE, a groundbreaking animated series that brings the entire narrative of the Bible to life using Scripture-only scripts.Born out of a dream and a deep desire to impact world missions, iBIBLE is designed to be accessible, visual, and faithful to God's Word—especially for people who speak minority languages or are unable to read. With translations underway in over 120 languages (including some with as few as 500 speakers), Steve shares how iBIBLE is transforming hearts in places where printed Bibles alone cannot reach.Steve underscores the growing need for visual Scripture in an age where literacy and language barriers keep many from accessing the Gospel. With a vision to complete the entire Bible in short, animated episodes, Steve and his team are pioneering a new frontier in missions—one where the Word of God is not just read or heard, but seen in the language people understand best. It's not entertainment—it's transformation through the unaltered power of Scripture.Steve started his work in missions in 1989 as a volunteer for The Voice of the Martyrs. He joined the staff in 1990 and soon after had the honor of traveling with VOM founders Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand. Being able to spend the last decade of their lives with them became the biggest blessing and honor of Steve's life. He continues with VOM as a contractor and has traveled with them to hostile and restricted nations around the world, including Cuba, Sudan, Northern Nigeria, borders of North Korea and most recently Iraq during the Isis occupation. In 2015 Steve and Robert Fernandez began an animation studio in San Jose, Costa Rica. It was at this time he began to see both the tremendous need and opportunity of making films for the mission field. In January 2017 Steve officially founded and launched the ministry Revelation Media, which is committed to providing quality and culturally engaging media for the global missions community. His projects include the Tortured for Christ movie and animated The Pilgrim's Progress, and now, he is working on a visual and interactive presentation of the entire Bible called iBIBLE.The Mission Matters Podcast is a place to talk about the importance of our Mission as Christians. The Mission Matters is a partnership of Missio Nexus and Sixteen:Fifteen, who have a shared passion to mobilize God's people to be a part of His mission.

In this locked and hilariously loaded episode of TV Tortured Together, Jacob and Laura, with special guest Brad (a man who definitely wouldn't last 60 minutes in jail), shank their way into the chaotic world of 60 Days In. They unpack the sheer madness of signing up voluntarily to go to prison—because apparently, reality TV has replaced therapy. From inmates sniffing out undercover volunteers like bloodhounds to the baffling absence of a theme song (seriously, not even a harmonica?), the trio explores everything from prison politics to Brad's brilliant new game show idea: Prison Code, where one wrong look gets you voted off the cellblock. They touch on COVID's wild impact behind bars, the questionable appeal of the cash prize (how much is enough to fake-snore through bunk bed shankings?), and sprinkle in personal tales that make you grateful for your couch and freedom. It's a riotous blend of deep thoughts, dark humor, and one too many toilet wine jokes.Checkout the new Hopecast website:https://thehopecastnetwork.com/Buy Merch here:https://www.bonfire.com/store/the-hopecast-network-swag/This show is brought to you by The Hopecast Networkhttps://www.instagram.com/hopecastnetwork/
Miguel Angel Angeles, executive director of Bethel Radio & TV, shares the history of a ministry that started with one Christian asking a radio station to play audio cassettes of his sermons on the air. As the radio ministry encouraged and built up the church, it expanded into Venezuela, Colombia, and other areas. Today, Bethel is a network of hundreds of radio and television stations, based in Peru and reaching Spanish speakers all over Latin America and the world. Miguel will share about his own start serving in IT with Bethel TV, and how he came to understand the importance of bringing awareness of the persecuted body of Christ through Bethel programming. “My first time listening about the persecuted church was when Petr Jasek came to a conference in Peru to share his testimony,” Miguel said, “and it created a hunger for me to learn more.” After hearing speak at a conference about his own arrest in Sudan, Miguel's church began to meet every Monday to pray for the persecuted church and to learn more about fellow believers facing Christian persecution. Week after week, God prepared Miguel's heart as it was continuously stretched by the stories of bold faith in the face of hostility and persecution. After reading Tortured for Christ, by Richard Wurmbrand, the founder of The Voice of the Martyrs, Miguel knew he needed to share about persecuted Christians with the broader church in Latin America and with his radio audience. Listen as Miguel shares the heart of his church for missions. Churches dedicate one Sunday a month to focus on missions and missionaries. You and your church will be encouraged to make missions and praying for persecuted Christians a regular part of your worship gatherings as well. Pray this week for Miguel, his family, and Bethel Radio & TV as they continue serving the Lord and sharing the voice of persecuted Christians with Spanish-speaking people around the world.

CBS News thinks the crown jewel of its news division is “60 Minutes,” the alleged gold standard of investigative journalism on television. But when it comes to politics, their coverage isn't just slanted. It's more like a wrecked bus laying on its side, wheels spinning in the air. Their stilted editing of a Kamala Harris interview weeks before the election caused Donald Trump to sue last year over the potential harm to his candidacy. By that standard, Trump could sue lots of newscasters and documentarians who slice and dice presidential contenders to try and persuade voters. The Wall Street Journal...Article Link

The lights never turned off, eerie Beethoven music was played every morning and she was only allowed to say five sentences a day. It was a horror Lei thought would never end. This week on Headline Highlights, a 13-year-old girl was attacked on her way home from school, but this brave teen proved her attacker picked the wrong target. After years on the run, the founder of a Haitian orphanage has finally been sentenced to prison for shocking abuse. A prison escape has everyone talking, not just because he got out, but because of why he was behind bars to begin with. The Kim Kardashian jewelry heist trial has come to a close. A good Samaritan's kind act turned into a nightmare when he was beaten and robbed. And an upscale New York City apartment became the scene of a horror story where a man was held hostage and tortured for weeks.

In this hilarious episode of TV Tortured Together, Jacob and Laura tumble headfirst into the delightfully chaotic world of Mr. Bean—because who needs dialogue when you've got pure, unfiltered mayhem? From underwear mix-ups in the laundromat to a mini golf game that turns into a city-wide scavenger hunt, they relive the slapstick glory that makes Mr. Bean a universal treasure (and a menace to public order). Jacob gives the hauntingly monk-like theme music a solid 8, while Laura—ever the realist—hands it a lukewarm 4.5 and demands more musical substance. They sprinkle in some personal TV tales, express heartfelt thanks to their loyal listeners, and give a very special shoutout to Laura's mom, the MVP of their audience and possibly the only reason Jacob behaves on mic.Checkout the new Hopecast website:https://thehopecastnetwork.com/Buy Merch here:https://www.bonfire.com/store/the-hopecast-network-swag/This show is brought to you by The Hopecast Networkhttps://www.instagram.com/hopecastnetwork/

On this episode of TV Tortured Together, hosts Jacob and Laura trade sweet tea for dry wit as they dive headfirst into the awkward brilliance of the British Office. They kick things off with a detour into the jailhouse drama of 60 Days In(because what pairs better with corporate misery than prison?), then launch into a hilarious deep-dive comparing British and American humor — spoiler: one's dry and cringe, the other's loud and cringe. From the infamous stapler-in-jelly incident to the soul-crushing downsizing memo, they unpack iconic moments that make you laugh and wince in equal measure. They dissect the uncomfortable charm of David Brent, the bromantic dysfunction of David and Gareth, and why Tim's torment of Gareth makes Jim look like a gentle prank fairy. Add in a theme song that's somehow both memorable and meaningless, and you've got an office tour that's painfully relatable, awkwardly hilarious, and—thankfully—only three seasons long.Checkout the new Hopecast website:https://thehopecastnetwork.com/Buy Merch here:https://www.bonfire.com/store/the-hopecast-network-swag/This show is brought to you by The Hopecast Networkhttps://www.instagram.com/hopecastnetwork/
"It was the most horrific crime ever to come before this Court,” said the Judge. Relive the courtroom drama as a seasoned District Attorney and a skilled Assistant District Attorney forge a compelling case in which there were no witnesses, no weapons, and a questionable motive. Follow the longest trial in Monroe County Court history, with the most witnesses ever to testify, often leaving the jury in tears. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Military reporter Emanuel Fabian joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. Released hostage Edan Alexander is back in his family's embrace in Israel and is recovering from his 584 days in Hamas captivity. We hear what we know so far about Alexander's health and the conditions in which he was kept. A few hours after the final living US-Israeli hostage was released by his Hamas captors, the IDF says that its forces carried out a “targeted attack” on “key” Hamas fighters who were operating a command center in the Nasser Hospital compound in Khan Younis. Among those reported killed is Palestinian journalist Hassan Eslaiah, who on October 7 was freelancing for the Associated Press and invaded Israel with the terrorists and photographed them entering Kibbutz Nir Oz, where dozens of civilians were massacred. Was he the target of the airstrike? Nour Bitawi, a senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad operative who Israeli authorities say was planning imminent terror attacks, was killed by troops Friday in the West Bank city of Nablus. Fabian explains who Bitawi was and how significant this mission could be. The Mossad spy agency and the Israel Defense Forces recovered the remains of Sgt. First Class Zvi Feldman, who went missing in the First Lebanon War’s battle of Sultan Yacoub in 1982. The battle, nearly 43 years ago, claimed the lives of 21 Israeli servicemen, and more than 30 were injured during it. Feldman, a tank soldier, went missing during the battle along with Sgt. First Class Yehuda Katz and Sgt. First Class Zachary Baumel. Baumel’s remains were recovered and returned to Israel in 2019.Fabian describes how the body of Feldman was recently recovered from “the heart of Syria” in a special operation. While state officials and legislators have positioned Texas to be “the bitcoin mining capital of the world,” in small towns like Granbury, working-class residents living next to giant, loud, environmentally destructive data centers are the ones paying the price for Texas's crypto boom. “None of us are sleeping,” Cheryl Shadden, a Granbury resident who lives across the street from a 300-megawatt bitcoin mining data center owned by Marathon Digital, tells TRNN. “We can't get rid of this alien invasion in our homes…This is like being a prisoner of war. At just 18 months old, Ben Shenton was handed over to a woman who claimed she was the reincarnation of Jesus Christ. That woman was Anne Hamilton-Byrne, the leader of a secretive doomsday cult called The Family. For 14 years, Ben lived cut off from the outside world—beaten, starved, drugged, and taught to stay “unseen, unheard, unknown.” The cult twisted Christianity into a tool of fear and control. Ben was finally rescued at age 15 during a police raid. Today, he’s an advocate for survivors and a pastor who still follows the teachings of Jesus Christ, just not the version the cult tried to force on him. One department store. Two opinions. Endless awkward laughs. In this episode of TV Tortured, Jacob and Laura brave the polyester jungle of Are You Being Served?, the British sitcom that asks, “What if your coworkers were walking punchlines with questionable sexual tension?” Focusing on the episode “German Week,” they unravel the glorious mess of cultural misunderstandings, suggestive gags, and the passive-aggressive power plays between Mr. Peacock and Mrs. Slocum. Laura's fully onboard the Grace Brothers train (and possibly driving it), while Jacob wonders if it's time to derail. They debate whether retail ever looked this ridiculous, rate the theme song like it's Eurovision, and ultimately agree: this show is a chaotic gem that America could never quite copy. Tune in for nostalgia, nitpicks, and one very British deep dive.Checkout the new Hopecast website:https://thehopecastnetwork.com/Buy Merch here:https://www.bonfire.com/store/the-hopecast-network-swag/This show is brought to you by The Hopecast Networkhttps://www.instagram.com/hopecastnetwork/

Richard Wurmbrand, author of Tortured for Christ and cofounder of The Voice of the Martyrs, said, “When I was beaten on the bottom of my feet, my tongue cried out.” His words echo those of the Apostle Paul: “If one member suffers, all suffer together” (1 Corinthians 12:26). Listen this week as Jonathan Ekman, VOM's Director of Global Partnerships, shares what it means to remember those who are persecuted and to tangibly assist brothers and sisters in more than 70 countries around the world. Jonathan will talk about developing and strengthening partnerships with church groups and mission organizations to enable VOM to come alongside the body of Christ in their times of suffering. Jonathan will also talk about his own crisis management experience and lessons he's learned—lessons he now uses to bless other ministries who may face the kidnapping of a missionary or the murder of a gospel worker. Last year, VOM provided tangible help to more than 4,000,000 Christians around the world. Much of that help was delivered through partnerships with local church leaders, international mission organizations and other groups. These partnerships are a key part of VOM serving persecuted Christians—and reflect what it means to be part of the Body of Christ. Jonathan will also share specific ways you can pray. You are invited to stand with persecuted Christians by supporting the work of The Voice of the Martyrs.

Welcome to this special episode of the China Compass Podcast, #27 in the weekly “Prison Pulpit” series! I'm your China travel guide, Missionary Ben. You can follow me on X (@chinaadventures) where I post daily reminders to pray for China (http://PrayforChina.us). To learn more about our various ministry endeavors and to get any of the missionary biographies I’ve published, visit www.PrayGiveGo.us! First, I want to remind everyone why I started this second weekly podcast within China Compass. I wanted to remind people to pray for Pastor Wang Yi (and others like him, as Hebrews 13:3 teaches us) by sharing from his own words and sermons. We kept at it for a dozen weeks or so (Oct and Dec of last year), working through Wang Yi’s pre-arrest letters and declarations. Next we return to Richard Wurmbrand’s Sermons in Solitary Confinement: I then began an extended series working through Richard Wurmbrand’s Sermons in Solitary Confinement, giving us a glimpse of life from within the walls of persecution from the perspective of a well-known pastor. Richard Wurmbrand was a Romanian Lutheran minister who spent fourteen years in prison (three in solitary confinement) and published ”Tortured for Christ" after his release in the late 1960s. He later founded Voice of the Martyrs, but son Michael does NOT recommend VOM’s ministry today. (Read his “Open Letter” about VOM here: https://www.billionbibles.com/michael-wurmbrand-vom.html) Michael Wurmbrand now runs his own ministry, and has made most of his father’s books (and formerly unpublished writings) available for free: https://richardwurmbrandfoundation.com/. The last two weeks I took a break from the Sermons in Solitary Confinement series to share a couple excerpts from Richard Wurmband’s longer book of prison stories & meditations, In God's Underground (https://richardwurmbrandfoundation.com/pdfs/IGU-english.pdf), but today we return to the Solitary Confinement Sermons, looking at a shorter one called “Word Made Flesh”, found on pages 65-67 in the original book (scanned to pdf): Sermons in Solitary Confinement. As I’ve said before, I want to preface this (as Wurmbrand himself did) with the statement that he is sharing these prison sermons “as is”, not editing out certain thoughts that he may have disagreed with later in life, or in more mentally stable moments. Not to say that they are heretical sermons either, but that they are not here presented to be as theologically accurate as possible, but to give us a glimpse into the heart, mind, and solitary cell of a prisoner for Christ. Here is the text version of this week’s prison sermon: https://open.substack.com/pub/chinacall/p/on-laban-leah-and-loving-ugly-souls Follow China Compass Follow or subscribe to China Compass wherever you are listening. How to emerge from 10 years of isolation and cross the desertTopic Detail: Hi Stefan, I'm a 31 year old man who's recently found the show (in October). Philosophy has taken a fire to my heart. I have been ravenously devouring your books and call-in shows and podcasts in the past months.I am emerging from a very long period of isolation, and I need help navigating this life transition. I am starting from a point of zero quality relationships, and need to cross the desert!I've confronted my parents about my childhood. This confrontation not only confirmed their nature as abusers to me, but it engendered a neurological shift in me where I feel more confident, competent, and action-orientated than I've ever felt in my life. I've confronted my parents, moved out of their house, and am taking steps to further my career. Before, I was burning time with hedonism. I had no goal. Subconsciously, I didn't want a marriage like my parents', or for my future children to have my childhood. I avoided dating in my twenties. When I first moved out in my early twenties, I fell into drug addiction and isolation. I returned to live with my parents in a sort of prodigal son way in my late twenties. I've just moved out again and have told my parents I want I hiatus from our relationship. I don't have another decade to waste. I want love and a family. In this most critical period of my life, I need guidance! GET TICKETS TO EOAS LIVE: https://www.evolutionofasnake.com One year ago, Taylor Swift dropped her messiest, most divisive album yet: The Tortured Poets Department. Critics rolled their eyes. Fans fought in the comments. But what really happened? And why does this era still haunt us? In this episode, we review the rollout, the reviews, the backlash, and the brilliance. We unpack the most savage takedowns, the misunderstood lyrics, and the cultural moment Taylor tried to close the book on, only for it to linger louder than ever. Was it a flop? A cult classic? When Andrea Dettore-Murphy first moved to Rankin County, Mississippi, she didn't believe the stories she heard about how brutal the sheriff's department could be when pursuing suspected drug crimes. But in 2018, she learned the hard way that the rumors were true when a group of sheriff's deputies raided the home of her friend Rick Loveday and beat him relentlessly while she watched. A few years later, Dettore-Murphy says deputies put her through another haunting incident with her friend Robert Grozier. Dettore-Murphy was just the latest in a long line of people who said they witnessed or experienced torture by a small group of deputies, some of whom called themselves the “Goon Squad.” For nearly two decades, the deputies roamed Rankin County at night, beating, tasing, and choking suspects in drug crimes until they admitted to buying or selling illegal substances. Their reign of terror continued unabated until 2023, when the deputies were finally exposed.“Rankin County has always been notorious,” says Garry Curro, one the Goon Squad's many alleged victims. “They don't follow the laws of the land. They make their own laws.”This week on Reveal, reporters Brian Howey and Nate Rosenfield with Mississippi Today and the New York Times investigate the Goon Squad, whose members have allegedly tortured at least 22 people since the early 2000s.
