In this discussion, Pastor Miller opens by looking at the content of the book of Samuel. A question is brought up regarding the census in 2 Samuel 24 where David numbers the people. In 2 Samuel 24 it says that God moved David against Israel but in 1 Chronicles 21 it says that Satan provoked David to number Israel. This passage brings up questions regarding the term Satan and forces us to consider God’s role in moving David to number the people. In response to the question from the previous week regarding Samuel’s death (20:00), Pastor Miller notes that although Samuel was a person of high standing in Israel and spoke on God’s behalf the people did not listen to him. This may be why his death, although it was a major event, received very little attention in the text. Israel paid lip service to Samuel’s message but disregarded his words. To read along with us please get a copy of the reading plan athttps://faithlife.com/oregon-trail-baptist-church/reader?readingPlanId=797f96db58c749f5bf6fe19f53b94983For more information, please visit www.OTBChurch.com

In this sermon, Pastor Miller traces three-step process by which a King would be appointed in Israel. Kings would first, be appointed by a prophet or other leader who was recognized by God then they would need to prove their worth. Next, they would need to prove themselves through some great feat. Lastly, they would need to be coronated. We see these events clearly in the lives of King Saul and King David and Matthew takes this theme in his Gospel and makes it clear that Jesus is King. Key events in the life of Jesus show that He was anointed, tested, and  was coronated in surprising ways. The question for us is, “Do you live as if Jesus is your king?”For more information, please visit www.OTBChurch.com

As Samson dishonors God, disregards his vow, and dabbles with sin he will find himself overcome by the enemies of God and put to shame. Even in his demise and death his only concern is his own revenge for losing his eyes. Samson becomes a heroic tragedy. He was a man who God used but not a man who experienced God’s blessings. For more information, please visit www.OTBChurch.com
