Call to Worship from Psalm 47
In our reading today, Moses outlines the blessings and the curses that will fall upon Israel if they fail to keep the covenant of the Lord. Keep in mind that the covenant and the statutes include the prescribed ways that Israel can repent of sin and execute justice. To reject the statutes and ordinances is to reject a good God who loves His people and to deny that His ways lead to prosperity. Israel will serve as a witness to the nations about the Lord and His power. If they obey Him, the nations will see God's kindness and provision. If they reject Him, the nations will witness the devastation and ruin of those who turn from His goodness and grace. Deuteronomy 26 – 1:20 . Deuteronomy 27 – 5:16 . Deuteronomy 28 – 11:00 . One Year Bible Podcast: Join Hunter and Heather Barnes on the Daily Radio Bible, a daily Bible‑in‑a‑year podcast with 20‑minute Scripture readings, Christ‑centered devotion, and guided prayer. This daily Bible reading and devotional invites you to live as a citizen of Jesus' kingdom, reconciled, renewed, and deeply loved. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible! In today's March 25th, 2025 episode, Hunter invites us to journey together through key passages of Scripture—including Joshua 21 and 22, Psalm 47, and 1 Corinthians 10. We explore how God's promises were fulfilled for Israel, the importance of obedience, and the unity found in worship. Hunter takes time to reflect on the struggles and temptations we all face, reminding us of the victorious life offered in Christ and the transformation that comes from truly knowing we are God's children. As we listen, we're encouraged to rest in God's love, stand strong in faith, and walk in the assurance that what Christ accomplished on the cross changes everything for us. Each reading is accompanied by heartfelt prayers, and Hunter closes with a call to let God's joy and love overflow in our lives. Whether you're new to the journey or a longtime listener, this episode is a powerful reminder: God is faithful, His promises endure, and you are deeply loved. TODAY'S DEVOTION: We all experience temptation. In the wilderness, Israel struggled—many didn't believe, and it kept them from entering all that God had given them. They were meant to be God's special possession, delivered from slavery into freedom, given their own land. Yet, unbelief kept them from realizing who they truly were and how they were meant to live. But for us, it's different. Paul reminds us that our struggle with temptation isn't the normal or final story for those in Christ. The "normal" Christian life isn't one of simply wandering and failing, of our bones littered about the desert. Christ has come, and overwhelming victory has been won on the cross. Where Adam failed, Christ succeeded. As Paul writes, "For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being. For as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ Jesus." The victory of Christ on the cross has changed our very being. We are no longer slaves. We are God's own children. And this deliverance isn't just for a small tribe or nation—it's for all of humanity. In Christ, you have been drawn into God's very life. This is the truth of your being. And it is all a gift. Will you face challenges and temptations? Yes. But none of that can undo what God has done for you. The life of the Spirit in you now enables you to endure. As Peter declared, God has enabled you to share in his divine nature and escape the corruption of the world. Christ has made you a partaker in his divine life—his presence dwells in you. Still, only God can reveal God. So my prayer today is that God will reveal his truth to you—that you will see and believe that what Christ did on the cross has changed everything. You are his. You are forgiven, loved, and made new. You have freedom, and you have a new land—a new way of living that flows with his life. As the revelation of Christ breaks in, you'll find a new power to live—the way of faith, hope, and love: a self-giving life, a radically forgiving life, a co-suffering, cruciform life of Christ in you. That's my prayer for my own soul, for my family, and for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. Moses continues to receive instructions from the Lord, and today's episode begins with instructions for the priests in eating their portion of the sacrifices to the Lord. Recall that the Levites will not be given large portions of land when they enter the Promised Land; instead, the Lord will be their portion. For their service in the tabernacle, they will receive portions of food from the offerings given to the Lord, and thereby be sustained. Or reading continues by considering which sacrifices are acceptable, which days are to be set aside for Sabbaths, and which days are to be set aside for worship, celebration, and remembrance. The post Psalm 47 appeared first on Grace Bible Church.
Psalm 47 invites the entire world to the coronation ceremony of the God as the king of Heaven and Earth
Thank you for joining us today for worship! We begin our new series - Let's Give Thanks - by looking at Psalm 47 and meditating on our Lord Most High as King.
The sermon centers on the biblical imperative and profound joy of public praise, rooted in the sovereignty, purpose, and provision of God as revealed in Psalm 47. It emphasizes that praise is not merely a ritual but a divine command requiring supernatural grace, grounded in the truths of God's majesty, His messianic reign, and His eternal inheritance for His people. The preacher underscores a balanced worship climate—exuberant yet reverent, joyful yet trembling before a holy God—where heartfelt singing flows from a mind informed by Scripture and a soul transformed by grace. Drawing on the psalm's messianic themes, the sermon connects the ascension of Christ with the church's present union and future reign with Him, affirming that believers, as heirs of God's covenant love, are called to praise with confidence, knowing Christ is both King and Savior who secures their eternal destiny.

And now, just weeks later, Don has agreed to preach and teach for us! Now, besides what I know will be a thoughtful and edifying sermon, the meta-sermon Don will be communicating is perhaps even more profound than anything he could possibly say... and it goes like this: You never retire from God's service and Jesus' mission to bring The Good News to all the world! So I hope you are in town and able to get up and join us to experience both the literal and meta sermons from a now "retired" pastor with so much wisdom still to preach!
