Live Out Christ's Love And Allow The Holy Spirit To Lead John 16:7-8 7But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment:
This Sunday our own Kelley Schubert is speaking on the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives in John 16. We often take for granted the incredible gift we have today with the Holy Spirit active in our daily lives!

What a contrast Christianity is from the way of the world and the world's religions that seek not to give, but to take! In Christianity the emphasis is on what God, in His love, has given! Oh and what a gift He gave in His Son! The world seeks to take - God seeks to give! This is what Pastor Lloyd will be exploring today as we complete our look at John chapter sixteen.
Throughout the Christian life, we experience grief, trials, and pain, but the good news is that one day our sorrow will be turned to joy. That's the topic today on Bridging the Gap with pastor Lloyd Pulley, as we resume our series through the gospel of John. Our aim is to cover verses sixteen through thirty-three of chapter sixteen over the next couple of broadcasts.
Garrett Kell, Pastor of Del Ray Baptist Church
Speaker: Pastor Giles LitznerJesus continues to make an investment in his disciples that will benefit them once he is off the scene. He is managing their expectations regarding what life will look like on the horizontal in his absence. In this passage He assures them that their sorrow will turn to joy when He returns (vv. 16-24) and that they will have peace in the midst of tribulation because Jesus has overcome the world (vv. 25-33).

After Jesus ascends, religious people will seek to kill these men, falsely believing that such attacks honor God! Fortunately, the Holy Spirit is coming to guide the Apostles into all truth and disclose what is coming. Jesus must ascend into heaven so that He can send the Holy Spirit to them. But that process will be painful; Jesus will first have to be arrested, beaten, and killed. While this will be a time of great sadness, Jesus assures them He will rise again and appear to them. The disciples will be scattered when Jesus is arrested, but He will rally them to Him after He is raised. Peace will prevail because Jesus will overcome the world! The days of Christ's arrest and death are the darkest in human history. But they were necessary to bring about God's plan for our redemption. Jesus' victory over death overcomes the world in that sin and death no longer have power of His followers. His death also brought about the new covenant that God intended from the beginning of time. The Holy Spirit has come to earth as the result of Jesus ascending to glory. Jesus has sent Him to teach us concerning sin, righteousness, and the judgment to come. We are immensely blessed by Jesus' death, burial, resurrection, and ascension into heaven. Though times of sadness and tribulation may come, we live with abiding peace in the victory of Jesus. Kind Father, we praise You and thank You for the revelation of scripture. You have disclosed to us the life and victory of Jesus, as well as the teachings of the Holy Spirit. You have warned us of the world's response to truth, preparing us to stand firm in faith and to avoid stumbling in confusion and doubt. Father, help us develop the discipline to study the words of Jesus and to read the Spirit's revelation concerning sin, righteousness, and the judgment to come. Teach us how to live by faith in Christ, the One who has overcome the world. Thought Questions: - What has Jesus revealed in the gospels that keeps you from stumbling? What gives you the courage to be strong in faith? - What has the Spirit taught you in scripture about sin? What has He shown you about righteousness? What about the judgment to come? - A woman birthing a child goes from pain and weeping to great joy. How does the resurrection of Jesus move you from sorrow to joy?
Thought to share? Send me a text...What happens when the faith we've always known suddenly feels uncertain? Whether you call it a crisis of belief or deconstruction, these pivotal moments challenge what we've built our spiritual lives upon. But as we discover in John 16, Jesus anticipated these struggles. Before His crucifixion, knowing His disciples would soon face their greatest faith crisis, Jesus provided extraordinary promises to carry them through. He revealed that the Holy Spirit's arrival would actually surpass having Jesus physically present—an astounding claim that would only make sense after Pentecost. This same Spirit remains our guide today, leading us into all truth when our questions multiply.Jesus revolutionized their understanding of divine access, explaining that through Him, they could approach God directly: "The Father himself loves you dearly." No longer would they need intermediaries or special rituals—the extraordinary intimacy Jesus enjoyed with the Father would become available to all who follow Him. This privilege extends to modern believers who sometimes forget the wonder of direct communion with the Creator. The chapter concludes with Jesus' famous words: "In this world you will have many trials and sorrows, but take heart, because I have overcome the world." His promise wasn't immunity from hardship but rather supernatural peace amid inevitable struggles. When circumstances challenge our beliefs about God—as they inevitably will—Jesus offers not simplistic answers but His presence through the Spirit and assurance of His ultimate victory. Hey friends! Today we're jumping back into the Upper Room with Jesus and His disciples. Jesus had already washed their feet and shared lots of amazing things, but He wasn't done yet! He had one more super important promise to make: He was sending someone very special — the Holy Spirit!Jesus explained that soon, He would go to be with the Father, but He wouldn't leave His friends alone. The Holy Spirit would come to help them! He would show the world what's true about sin, and how through Jesus, we can be made clean and whole again. The Spirit would guide the disciples (and us!) into all truth, and always point us back to Jesus and the Father.Even though the disciples felt confused and maybe even a little sad, Jesus promised that their sorrow would turn into joy. They just had to trust Him — because He knew exactly what they needed! So, grab your Bible and let's explore how the Holy Spirit is our faithful guide, our helper, and a forever friend sent by Jesus Himself!Podcast Questions:What were the disciples beginning to understand that made them sad?Jesus reassures the disciples by telling them he has overcome what? What does Jesus do after he reassures the disciples?Remember, you can submit your answers here, for a chance to win a prize!Recommended ResourcesKaleidoscope + YotoLiving Water: The Gospel of JohnFollow us: Instagram | FacebookLeave Us a Review! One of the best ways that you can support this podcast is by rating and reviewing us! There is no way around trouble and suffering in this life. Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulation.” Yet He also told us, “But take heart; I have overcome the world.” To take heart means to be courageous. When faced with trouble, we can be courageous because we follow Someone who conquered everything the world threw at Him. Jesus calls His people not merely to survive but to thrive. “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37) Take Home Message: Take Heart! Good Friday Easter is always a special time of the year. It's a chance to pause and reflect on the deeper question of life. Central to the Easter story is the person of Jesus, and his death on the cross. Jesus taught that his death was not just one more Roman execution; it was instead at the centre of God's plans for his world. Jesus' death is the key for all people to be restored to a right relationship with God. He bore our sins on the cross, so we might have forgiveness and new life. Our time together this morning will involve a reflective service of songs, prayers, and readings from the Bible's account of Jesus' crucifixion Order of Service Song: Hallelujah! SERMON: TURNING SORROW INTO JOYSCRIPTURE: John 16:16-24)SERIES: WHEN JOY RETURNS
Take a moment to reflect-- is the Holy Spirit truly welcome in your life? Today in his teaching, Pastor Mark shares about a woman in the Bible named Rebecca. When Abraham's servant showed up, she and her family were hospitable and gracious. This is the same way that you should treat the Holy Spirit. Consider the T.V. shows you watch, the language you use, your social media, and the way you treat others. Are you cultivating a welcoming environment for the Holy Spirit to dwell in? If not, ask the Lord to show you the areas in your life that grieve Him. Respond in obedience by making adjustments that please the Spirit.
Are you ready to embrace the incredible promise of your inheritance? Today in his message, Pastor Mark explains that as a follower of Jesus, you will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. So don't get caught up in chasing after material things like cars, and mansions. These things will never bring you true satisfaction. Nothing on earth will compare to the glory of Heaven and the eternal blessing of God's presence. Do not let the fleeting allure of earthly wealth distract you from the real treasures that await you in God's Kingdom. Instead, keep your focus on eternity as you share the Good News of Jesus with those who don't know Him.
Imagine experiencing the freedom that comes from having your sins wiped away. That freedom is yours when you say “yes” to Jesus. He takes the sins of your past and washes you white as snow. There is NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. He lavishes you with grace, mercy, and forgiveness. Today Pastor Mark urges you not to wait for Judgment Day to answer the most important question of your life, “Who do you say Jesus is?” Today is the perfect day to declare Him as your Lord and Savior if you haven't already. There is freedom, forgiveness, and joy in store for you when you decide to follow Jesus.
