The Rev. Peter Schmidt gives today's sermonette based on John 16:1-16. Hear a guest pastor give a short sermonette based on the day's Daily Lectionary New Testament text during Morning and Evening Prayer. Submit comments or questions to: listener@kfuo.org
In this sermon, Pastor Jason explores the role of the Holy Spirit in bridging the gap between knowing about God and truly experiencing a relationship with Him. He emphasizes the importance of the Holy Spirit in bringing the reality of God's presence into our daily lives. Pastor Jason discusses the different perspectives people have about the Holy Spirit, highlighting the need for balance between understanding and experiencing His power. He encourages the congregation to embrace the Holy Spirit's guidance, which points us back to Jesus, and to seek a deeper connection with God through the Spirit's work. The sermon also touches on the challenges of faith and the promise of the Holy Spirit as a helper in times of difficulty.
Your Sorrow Will Turn into Joy 16 “A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.” 17 So some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you […]

Today's Bible Verse: "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." — John 16:33 John 16:33 offers both honesty and hope. Jesus does not promise His followers a life free from hardship, disappointment, or struggle. Instead, He acknowledges a reality we all experience: in this world, trouble is inevitable. Yet He immediately follows that truth with a powerful assurance—He has overcome the world. John 16:1 "These things I have spoken to you so that you may be kept from stumbling.” One of the ways we know what Jesus meant is by looking to see how the disciples took what He said. We are able to do that in this case because the author of John commented on it in his first epistle. In 1John 2:10 he wrote, “The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him.” To what is Jesus referring when He said, “these things”? John narrowed it down to the new commandment. The one who loves his brother, (shall I be so bold as to say it in these words?) who lives to love with Jesus, is walking in the light. That light keeps him from stumbling just as walking in the bright daylight keeps you from stumbling over something. You don't usually stumble over things in the daylight, do you? Why? Because you can see where you are going. You can see what's in your path. So it is when you live to love with Jesus. You know where you are going. You're on your way to love the next person God puts in your path. And when they appear, you won't stumble over them because you are there to love them, rather than be loved by them. When we live for ourselves, there is great cause for stumbling. We live in a fallen world, and everyone who shows up in our path is fallen. More than likely they are not going to think about our highest good no matter what the cost. So what happens to the person who isn't living to love with Jesus, to the one who is living to get his or her agenda done or to be happy and comfortable, or to gain significance in this world? They will not walk in love, but will stumble and react, usually in hurtful, unloving ways. Knowing they were to love one another through the life of the indwelling Christ, would keep them from stumbling. Whenever you stumble in a relationship, you can be assured, you have forgotten that your purpose in life is to walk in Jesus' light and live to love with Him. What did Jesus say the Holy Spirit will do for us?
12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you.15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”
In John 16:4-15 we see that, Jesus' departure is not the end of His work but the beginning of the Spirit's ministry of convicting the world, leading the church, and glorifying the Son.

Come, Holy Spirit — Week 2: Guided Into Truth | John 16:12–15 Texts: John 16:12–15; John 16:7–8; Romans 8:26; Proverbs 3:5–6A lot of people know about the Father. They know about the Son. But when it comes to the Holy Spirit, they feel uncertain, distant, or confused. In Week 2 of Come, Holy Spirit, Miguel Plaza teaches from John 16 and reminds us that the Holy Spirit is not a mystery to avoid, but a person to know. He is not an optional extra for redeemed people. He is the gift of the redeemed age, given to guide believers into truth, convict them with love, and lead them toward God's purpose. This message unpacks who the Holy Spirit is, what He does, and why following Jesus in real life is never meant to happen by human strength alone. The Spirit comforts, convicts, guides, strengthens, and helps ordinary believers take their next step of obedience. If you have ever felt stuck, unsure, spiritually behind, or uncertain about how God leads, this message is a clear and practical invitation to be led by the Holy Spirit in everyday life. Pastor Artie shares how true peace is found not in perfect circumstances, but in remaining connected to Christ through every storm. John 16:25–33. Christ Community Church in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
Pentecost reminds us that God's presence reaches its ultimate, breathtaking climax in the Holy Spirit. Throughout scripture, we see a beautiful, unfolding architecture of how God dwells with humanity. In Exodus, God provided a Tabernacle—a sacred tent—to dwell among a wandering people, yet His presence remained hidden behind a heavy veil. In the Gospels, the architecture shifts: the Word became flesh in Jesus, pitching His tent beside us in everyday life. But Jesus made a startling claim: "It is for your good that I am going away." Why? Because physical presence is limited by geography and time. Through Christ's final sacrifice, the veil was permanently torn. The Holy Spirit shifts Immanuel from a localized person in the first century to an internal reality living inside your body. God moves from dwelling among us to dwelling in us. Your body is now the sanctuary. The Spirit coordinates with our internal mind (ruakh), whispering into our consciousness. Because He speaks with profound gentleness rather than a hostile takeover, His voice is easily drowned out by digital noise or mistaken for just another one of our own thoughts.Support the show
Are You In a Spirit-Filled Church? | Christ For YouJohn 16:8–14 | PentecostA man walked into Zion, sat through the service, and left with a verdict: the Holy Spirit isn't here. No raised hands. No tears. No electricity in the room. Just a Bible being read, doctrine being preached, and sinners sitting quietly in pews. But was he right? Is the Holy Spirit a force, an energy, a feeling — or something else entirely? Why did Pentecostalism begin only 120 years ago, and how did it become the default Christianity for millions? What happens to your faith when the feeling fades? And who controls your access to God if that access runs through your emotions? What does Jesus actually say the Holy Spirit does? Why does the Spirit refuse to point to Himself? What does it mean that He doesn't just inform you — He declares something to you? How do you know if the Holy Spirit is working in you? And what do children receiving their first communion prove about whether the Spirit is here? Why does the Spirit come first with the Law? And how does the cross change everything? For those who are sick, aging, and dying — when the feelings are gone and you have no strength left — is the Holy Spirit still there? Who is speaking for you when you no longer have words? In this Pentecost sermon, Pastor Rojas answers every one of those questions from Scripture.Subscribe & Share:Spotify: Christ For YouPortuguês: Cristo Para VocêWebsite: ZionWG.orgLooking for a Lutheran Church near you?Support the preaching of God's Word.

Doctrine matters because… We love God. Belief shapes behavior. It informs our worldview. We need to be equipped to explain what we believe and why we believe it. This doctrine calls for… 1. Defining the Trinity The Trinity Defined… There is one God The Father is God The Son is God The Holy Spirit is God 2. Defending the Trinity If Jesus isn't God, His death did not atone for your sins. If Jesus isn't God, you cannot be justified by faith in Christ. If Jesus isn't God, He cannot answer your prayers. If the Holy Spirit isn't God, you cannot trust His leading. Without the Trinity, there were no personal or intimate relationships before Creation. 3. Delighting in the Trinity The Trinity displays the root of the reality that “God is love.” Delight in the ways of a triune God!

In this episode, Ronn and Mike explore the biblical and theological insights regarding John 16, the Holy Spirit and the divine council worldview. Join them as they dive deep into biblical analysis, practical theology, and insights into spiritual rebellion and divine authority.
In the intimate setting of the Upper Room discourse, Jesus prepares his disciples for a world without his physical presence by promising them the indwelling Holy Spirit, his eventual return, and a new confidence in prayer that would sustain their mission. This message examines what it truly means to pray “in Christ's name”—not as a religious phrase, but as a life submitted under the authority, mission, and desires of the Son of God. This sermon calls believers to a deeper devotion to prayer, recognizing that no sinner approaches the Father on personal merit, but only through Christ our advocate and intercessor.
