Today's Bible Verse: "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." — John 16:33 John 16:33 offers both honesty and hope. Jesus does not promise His followers a life free from hardship, disappointment, or struggle. Instead, He acknowledges a reality we all experience: in this world, trouble is inevitable. Yet He immediately follows that truth with a powerful assurance—He has overcome the world. John 16:1 "These things I have spoken to you so that you may be kept from stumbling.” One of the ways we know what Jesus meant is by looking to see how the disciples took what He said. We are able to do that in this case because the author of John commented on it in his first epistle. In 1John 2:10 he wrote, “The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him.” To what is Jesus referring when He said, “these things”? John narrowed it down to the new commandment. The one who loves his brother, (shall I be so bold as to say it in these words?) who lives to love with Jesus, is walking in the light. That light keeps him from stumbling just as walking in the bright daylight keeps you from stumbling over something. You don't usually stumble over things in the daylight, do you? Why? Because you can see where you are going. You can see what's in your path. So it is when you live to love with Jesus. You know where you are going. You're on your way to love the next person God puts in your path. And when they appear, you won't stumble over them because you are there to love them, rather than be loved by them. When we live for ourselves, there is great cause for stumbling. We live in a fallen world, and everyone who shows up in our path is fallen. More than likely they are not going to think about our highest good no matter what the cost. So what happens to the person who isn't living to love with Jesus, to the one who is living to get his or her agenda done or to be happy and comfortable, or to gain significance in this world? They will not walk in love, but will stumble and react, usually in hurtful, unloving ways. Knowing they were to love one another through the life of the indwelling Christ, would keep them from stumbling. Whenever you stumble in a relationship, you can be assured, you have forgotten that your purpose in life is to walk in Jesus' light and live to love with Him. Come, Holy Spirit — Week 2: Guided Into Truth | John 16:12–15 Texts: John 16:12–15; John 16:7–8; Romans 8:26; Proverbs 3:5–6A lot of people know about the Father. They know about the Son. But when it comes to the Holy Spirit, they feel uncertain, distant, or confused. In Week 2 of Come, Holy Spirit, Miguel Plaza teaches from John 16 and reminds us that the Holy Spirit is not a mystery to avoid, but a person to know. He is not an optional extra for redeemed people. He is the gift of the redeemed age, given to guide believers into truth, convict them with love, and lead them toward God's purpose. This message unpacks who the Holy Spirit is, what He does, and why following Jesus in real life is never meant to happen by human strength alone. The Spirit comforts, convicts, guides, strengthens, and helps ordinary believers take their next step of obedience. If you have ever felt stuck, unsure, spiritually behind, or uncertain about how God leads, this message is a clear and practical invitation to be led by the Holy Spirit in everyday life. Broad River Church | Norwalk, CT Join us Sundays: 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM (English) | 1:00 PM (Español) Learn more or take your next step: https://broadriver.church/nextstepsFollow us on Instagram: @iambroadriverchurch

Pentecost reminds us that God's presence reaches its ultimate, breathtaking climax in the Holy Spirit. Throughout scripture, we see a beautiful, unfolding architecture of how God dwells with humanity. In Exodus, God provided a Tabernacle—a sacred tent—to dwell among a wandering people, yet His presence remained hidden behind a heavy veil. In the Gospels, the architecture shifts: the Word became flesh in Jesus, pitching His tent beside us in everyday life. But Jesus made a startling claim: "It is for your good that I am going away." Why? Because physical presence is limited by geography and time. Through Christ's final sacrifice, the veil was permanently torn. The Holy Spirit shifts Immanuel from a localized person in the first century to an internal reality living inside your body. God moves from dwelling among us to dwelling in us. Your body is now the sanctuary. The Spirit coordinates with our internal mind (ruakh), whispering into our consciousness. Because He speaks with profound gentleness rather than a hostile takeover, His voice is easily drowned out by digital noise or mistaken for just another one of our own thoughts.Support the show

Are You In a Spirit-Filled Church? | Christ For YouJohn 16:8–14 | PentecostA man walked into Zion, sat through the service, and left with a verdict: the Holy Spirit isn't here. No raised hands. No tears. No electricity in the room. Just a Bible being read, doctrine being preached, and sinners sitting quietly in pews. But was he right? Is the Holy Spirit a force, an energy, a feeling — or something else entirely? Why did Pentecostalism begin only 120 years ago, and how did it become the default Christianity for millions? What happens to your faith when the feeling fades? And who controls your access to God if that access runs through your emotions? What does Jesus actually say the Holy Spirit does? Why does the Spirit refuse to point to Himself? What does it mean that He doesn't just inform you — He declares something to you? How do you know if the Holy Spirit is working in you? And what do children receiving their first communion prove about whether the Spirit is here? Why does the Spirit come first with the Law? And how does the cross change everything? For those who are sick, aging, and dying — when the feelings are gone and you have no strength left — is the Holy Spirit still there? Who is speaking for you when you no longer have words? In this Pentecost sermon, Pastor Rojas answers every one of those questions from Scripture.Subscribe & Share:Spotify: Christ For YouPortuguês: Cristo Para VocêWebsite: ZionWG.orgLooking for a Lutheran Church near you?Support the preaching of God's Word.

Doctrine matters because… We love God. Belief shapes behavior. It informs our worldview. We need to be equipped to explain what we believe and why we believe it. This doctrine calls for… 1. Defining the Trinity The Trinity Defined… There is one God The Father is God The Son is God The Holy Spirit is God 2. Defending the Trinity If Jesus isn't God, His death did not atone for your sins. If Jesus isn't God, you cannot be justified by faith in Christ. If Jesus isn't God, He cannot answer your prayers. If the Holy Spirit isn't God, you cannot trust His leading. Without the Trinity, there were no personal or intimate relationships before Creation. 3. Delighting in the Trinity The Trinity displays the root of the reality that “God is love.” Delight in the ways of a triune God!

23 And in that day you shall not ask me any thing. Amen, amen I say to you: if you ask the Father any thing in my name, he will give it you.Et in illo die me non rogabitis quidquam. Amen, amen dico vobis : si quid petieritis Patrem in nomine meo, dabit vobis. 24 Hitherto you have not asked any thing in my name. Ask, and you shall receive; that your joy may be full.Usque modo non petistis quidquam in nomine meo : petite, et accipietis, ut gaudium vestrum sit plenum. 25 These things I have spoken to you in proverbs. The hour cometh, when I will no more speak to you in proverbs, but will shew you plainly of the Father.Haec in proverbiis locutus sum vobis. Venit hora cum jam non in proverbiis loquar vobis, sed palam de Patre annuntiabo vobis : 26 In that day you shall ask in my name; and I say not to you, that I will ask the Father for you:in illo die in nomine meo petetis : et non dico vobis quia ego rogabo Patrem de vobis : 27 For the Father himself loveth you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.ipse enim Pater amat vos, quia vos me amastis, et credidistis, quia ego a Deo exivi. 28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again I leave the world, and I go to the Father.Exivi a Patre, et veni in mundum : iterum relinquo mundum, et vado ad Patrem. 29 His disciples say to him: Behold, now thou speakest plainly, and speakest no proverb.Dicunt ei discipuli ejus : Ecce nunc palam loqueris, et proverbium nullum dicis : 30 Now we know that thou knowest all things, and thou needest not that any man should ask thee. By this we believe that thou camest forth from God.nunc scimus quia scis omnia, et non opus est tibi ut quis te interroget : in hoc credimus quia a Deo existi.Let us ask God, from whom all good things come, by the merits of Jesus our Redeemer, spiritual and temporal graces.

In the intimate setting of the Upper Room discourse, Jesus prepares his disciples for a world without his physical presence by promising them the indwelling Holy Spirit, his eventual return, and a new confidence in prayer that would sustain their mission. This message examines what it truly means to pray “in Christ's name”—not as a religious phrase, but as a life submitted under the authority, mission, and desires of the Son of God. This sermon calls believers to a deeper devotion to prayer, recognizing that no sinner approaches the Father on personal merit, but only through Christ our advocate and intercessor.

5 But I told you not these things from the beginning, because I was with you. And now I go to him that sent me, and none of you asketh me: Whither goest thou?Haec autem vobis ab initio non dixi, quia vobiscum eram. Et nunc vado ad eum qui misit me; et nemo ex vobis interrogat me : Quo vadis? 6 But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow hath filled your heart.sed quia haec locutus sum vobis, tristitia implevit cor vestrum. 7 But I tell you the truth: it is expedient to you that I go: for if I go not, the Paraclete will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.Sed ego veritatem dico vobis : expedit vobis ut ego vadam : si enim non abiero, Paraclitus non veniet ad vos; si autem abiero, mittam eum ad vos. 8 And when he is come, he will convict the world of sin, and of justice, and of judgment.Et cum venerit ille, arguet mundum de peccato, et de justitia, et de judicio. 9 Of sin: because they believed not in me.De peccato quidem, quia non crediderunt in me. 10 And of justice: because I go to the Father; and you shall see me no longer.De justitia vero, quia ad Patrem vado, et jam non videbitis me. 11 And of judgment: because the prince of this world is already judged.De judicio autem, quia princeps hujus mundi jam judicatus est. 12 I have yet many things to say to you: but you cannot bear them now.Adhuc multa habeo vobis dicere, sed non potestis portare modo. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will teach you all truth. For he shall not speak of himself; but what things soever he shall hear, he shall speak; and the things that are to come, he shall shew you.Cum autem venerit ille Spiritus veritatis, docebit vos omnem veritatem : non enim loquetur a semetipso, sed quaecumque audiet loquetur, et quae ventura sunt annuntiabit vobis. 14 He shall glorify me; because he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it to you.Ille me clarificabit, quia de meo accipiet, et annuntiabit vobis.[8] "He will convict the world of sin": The Holy Ghost, by his coming brought over many thousands, first, to a sense of their sin in not believing in Christ. Secondly, to a conviction of the justice of Christ, now sitting at the right hand of his Father. And thirdly, to a right apprehension of the judgment prepared for them that choose to follow Satan, who is already judged and condemned.[13] "Teach you all things": Here the Holy Ghost is promised to the apostles and their successors, particularly, in order to teach them all truth, and to preserve them from error.

In this message, Samuel Goulet unpacks the biblical meaning of “Paraclete” (Paraklētos)—the Holy Spirit as the One who comes alongside as helper, teacher, comforter, and advocate—and shows how Jesus models this role for us. Walking through key passages in John 14–16 and 1 John 2, he invites listeners to trust the Spirit's guidance, correction, and encouragement in everyday life, from overcoming insecurity to receiving conviction without condemnation. The sermon closes with a practical challenge: don't let God's grace “pool up,” but let it flow outward as we comfort, strengthen, restore, and bear burdens for one another in real community.
