This is episode #2 in our Back to School Series. Listen to episode #1 here. The first day of kindergarten can be rough on your mommy heart. I get it! I've been there. It's ok to feel all the feels. In this episode, I share 3 simple ways to make that first day of school a great one for both you and kindergartener. 3 simple ways:1. Get the pictures, then let them ride the bus. There will never be more people around to help your child find their way than in the first few weeks. Enjoy the first day but then start the second day by establishing the new routine. This will give your child the feeling of confidence and security of knowing what to expect as they start and end their days in kindergarten. You can always do a surprise pick-up once they are secure in knowing how to ride the bus.2. Take time together BEFORE school starts, to create something meaningful that your child can use to be reminded that you love them, miss them, and that as soon as school is over you will be reunited.3. Practice, Practice, Practice. Make sure your child can do lunch all on their own. Listen to the lunchroom episode here in case you missed it. Check that they can do the bathroom, and backpacks and ask for help without your assistance. Knowing what to expect makes your child feel safe and secure. Practice makes for a happy little superhero in training.Follow me on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/parentingsuperheroes/Download your FREE kindergarten readiness checklistDM me on IG: @parentingsuperheroes

If you know me, THANK YOU for being here and checking out my new podcast. If you've never heard of me, then let me introduce myself! I'm Gretchen Camp. Like you, I wear many hats. My college career hat of being a teacher is what led me to this podcast. In the opening episode of "Parenting Superheroes", I'll be letting know why I started this podcast, why I called it Parenting Superheroes, and most importantly why you need to tune in each week. I have always had the desire to learn. I have so many hobbies and interests because I just love to know and learn. The same has always held true for my classroom. I have spent countless summer breaks, taking classes and attending seminars so I can bring new ideas and fresh content to my students. With my classroom parents' and families' constant desire to help their children, I realized I needed to do more to empower them. I realized that if they wanted more, then I bet so do all parents. How selfish would I be not to share what I have learned over years (15 plus to be exact) of being in the classroom? This podcast is me sharing the gifts God gave me with all of you.
