As Democrats turn the page on 2024, a new high-stakes fight is underway over which states will kick off the 2028 presidential primaries. Twelve states made their pitches to the Democratic National Committee, which ranged from racial diversity to electoral history. The coveted early spots can shape the entire race and bring a surge of campaign spending and national media attention. USA TODAY White House Correspondent Francesca Chambers explains the political stakes and which states may have the edge. 1188. This week, we look at how “the bee's knees” went from meaning something tiny to the cheeriest slang of the 1920s — and why it outlasted the cat's pajamas and the clam's overshoes. Then, we look at why recipes boss you around with phrases like “fold in cheese” and how cookbook language evolved from chatty medieval notes into clipped, no-nonsense commands. The "recipe" segment was by Karen Lunde, a career writer and former Quick & Dirty Tips editor. She writes I'll Go First, a Substack where she shares personal essays and memoir, then hands you a weekly writing prompt and a metaphorical pen. Find her on igofirst.org.

Sensitive Content Disclaimer: The following conversation includes sensitive information, covering themes of abuse. Today on the show I am joined by my friend Tim Ross for an on-air counseling session as we process the concept of vulnerability in relationships. What does it mean to be vulnerable? I guide him through the analogy of seeing vulnerability like a pool – equipped with both a shallow end and a deep end. Vulnerability means to go first, to take that first jump, and to invite people to the deep end of your life, and share authentically. He opens up about the moment that changed everything for him, where he decided that he will never keep a secret again, and his journey toward being open and honest in every part of his life. We process through both the benefits and the risks of vulnerability, how to find friends who are willing to go there, and why being open and honest is not a gender thing – it's an invitation to all. This episode is filled with lessons to learn and things to process about your own life, and what holds you back from sharing authentically. Don't miss this on-air session, and then go deeper with your relationships by grabbing a copy of People Skills. AI isn't something managers can delegate. It's something they have to demonstrate. In this episode, Jen talks about one of the biggest leadership shifts happening inside dealerships right now: leaders becoming the model of how to use AI, not just the ones telling everyone else to use it. Your team isn't going to adopt tools because of a memo or a mandate. They adopt them because they see their leader using them in real life, in meetings, during problem-solving, when building customer messaging, or when creating new sales ideas. Jen shares how managers can introduce tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and others inside regular team meetings so people learn naturally instead of feeling forced. When leaders use AI openly, asking questions, testing ideas, building scripts... it shows the team how to think differently and stay relevant in a fast-changing industry. The message is simple: People don't follow mandates. They follow models. If you want your team to evolve, they have to watch you do it first! Dealer Talk with Jen Suzuki Podcast |

Hungry? How well would you hold up against temptation if you had been wandering in the wilderness for 40 days and someone offered you a loaf of bread? Be honest! Lent is here and, of course, it's the time of year when we intentionally focus our life in relationship to life of Jesus, and consider the things that distract us from our covenant of discipleship. No wonder folks in the olden days covered themselves in sackcloth and ashes. Being honest with ourselves can be hard, and saying, “the devil made me do it,” will get you nowhere. Week 2 of the "Awaken" series.
Send us a textThe coaches who create real change don't have louder voices or flashier frameworks—they lead themselves first. We dig into what “going first” actually looks like in practice: staying with discomfort, confronting patterns without excuses, and choosing honest growth over performative certainty. Instead of oversharing or racing to prove expertise, we show how self-leadership builds a felt sense of safety that clients can trust and mirror.Across this conversation, we break down the moments that matter: noticing when you want to bypass, naming what's true without drama, and processing emotions so action is clean rather than pressured. We talk through common traps—like confusing vulnerability with volume, asking clients to do work we're avoiding, and believing we must have everything figured out to be credible. You'll hear how modeling the exact reps you assign turns sessions from push to pull, reduces resistance, and replaces performance with presence. We also explore why outcomes accelerate when coaches lead from the front. Behavior is contagious; when you regulate, clients regulate. When you keep your growth alive, they feel permission to be in-process and brave earlier. Expect practical prompts for a single “go first” rep this week—have the money conversation, deliver the decisive no, make the courageous outreach—and a simple cadence to sustain momentum: feel, name, choose, act, reflect, refine. If you've done this work before, take this as a nudge to return to it. If you're just stepping into it, you're right on time.Ready to trade performance for proof-of-life leadership? In this leader-focused episode, Kaitlyn Caffrey and James Meehan model what it looks like to read the Bible wisely by walking through Genesis 32 and Jacob's wrestling match with God. They unpack how to read Scripture through the lenses of Jesus is King and context is everything, helping leaders grow as Bible readers so they can lead students with confidence. A practical, honest look at wrestling with God—and discovering how every passage ultimately points us to Jesus.
This episode is a powerful, honest conversation with Coach Shawnee Harle about leadership, fear, vulnerability, and what it truly means to coach athletes in today's environment. Returning to the podcast more than two years after her first appearance, Coach Harle challenges coaches to rethink how they listen, how they lead, and how fear silently shapes behavior on the sidelines. We dive deep into the idea that athletes want to be seen, heard, and understood — and why many coaches unintentionally block that by leading with agendas instead of curiosity. Coach Harle explains why vulnerability is not weakness, how emotional intelligence is often stunted by sport culture, and why helping athletes trust themselves may be more important than getting them to trust the coach. This episode is filled with practical insight, reflection, and uncomfortable-but-necessary truths for coaches, parents, and leaders who care about long-term impact more than short-term wins.Topics covered in this episode:

How do you respond when the Holy Spirit prompts you to act, especially when the request feels unusual or unexpected? Do you obey? Do you hesitate? Do you try to reason your way out of it? What if God is calling you to take the first step in love toward someone who isn't like you, someone who may disagree with you, avoid you, or even hate you? When we realize obedience to the Lord is not ultimately about us, we open the door to unexpected and extraordinary opportunities. We never know what hangs in the balance, are you ready?
