The Grade Cricketer

The Grade Cricketer

It's “the jewel in the crown”, “the toughest test in cricket”, and, according to Steve Smith, “bigger than The Ashes”. Yes, Usman Khawaja, The Grade Cricketer and Australia heads to India to commence the final six months in the history of Test cricket - and we're frothing. We cover visas, selections, purity, Ashwin impersonators, big boy breakthroughs and other obscure matters ahead of the first Test in Nagpur, starting Thursday. Elsewhere, the Scorchers once again win the Bucket on Your Bonce League, and deservedly. Cooper Connolly is all jaw and sex, AT does the business, and they're probably good because they ignore much of the guest player gear (with the understandable exception of Faf). But do we need to sell it all to India? This is the question of the Asian Century. Jofra's back and Pez would really like x2 tickets to Lord's on Days 1 and 2. Completely unlikely, but would like to go with Dad. In the context of all causes it is not even remotely important. And yet, here we are.  Our Women should win the World Cup and break records - anything else will be deeply concerning. Moreover, they have one game to get themselves a massive WPL contract. All the best, friends. Then we talk about 90s jingles for 10 minutes, before AskTGC wanders through the common state of delusion one engages when returning to the game in an oversize golf shirt. EPISODE 64 SYNOPSIS A SO-CALLED BUCKET PUDDIN' OF A SHOW As our so-called co-host Arik nears the oceanic depths of his midlife crisis, Team THN is joined by none other than America's Liberal Voice, Robyn Kincaid, from The H.O.R.N. (Head-On Radio Network)! Catch Robyn as the host of The H.O.R.N. over at: www.headon.live/ Robyn has had it up to her lovely golden curls with the term “so-called”—as in “so-called” gender affirming care. There's nothing “so-called” about a term expressly coined by the medical community! Hey, Bertha, how's your “so-called” colorectal cancer? Jenna, how's that “so-called” pregnancy coming along? Dammit, doc, can you please do something about my “so-called” sciatic nerve pain? Meanwhile, our other special guest, Carla from Burnt Korn, Alabama, is willing to risk the THN penalty box to rant about televangelists begging for funds to pay for a second jet to help the struggling ministry—especially when said ad interrupts her perfectly delightful viewing of Bill Murray in “Groundhog Day”! Robyn: “If that ain't something to make you want to use the term ‘bucket pudding,' well then I don't know what can.” Robyn is also blindly beside herself about The Great Saltine Shortage of 2022! Somehow, COVID-related supply chain issues have single-handedly destroyed the Cracker Industry. Carla: “I don't know about that. I live in Alabama, and there seem to be plenty of crackers crawling out of the woodworks around here.” Finally, sound engineer Pauly from Bali's profound, frat house party thoughts on The Last Supper. The founder and CEO of The Abortion Survivors Network, Melissa's life is a living example of what everyone knows deep down: we're killing babies and we all know it's wrong. What qualifies someone as a Nepo baby?  It doesn't necessarily mean that your parent was famous… (:30) Are you up to date on this week's biggest news stories?  Anna and Raven will get you caught up on what's trending, including the billion dollar winner of mega millions! (3:20) Teenagers sometimes do this to be disrespectful, but if you are an adult calling your Mom by her first name, that's all I need to know about you! (7:03) Have you ever tried to diagnose an illness on WebMD?  Anna is having an issue with her jaw and according to the internet, her time has come! (10:52) Today is Blue Monday, the statistically most depressing day of the year!  Both Anna and Producer Jon are feeling down about the fact that their toddlers don't take them seriously! (14:27) What makes somebody immediately unattractive to you?  In other words, what gives you The Ick?  It's a common sensation for people in the dating scene, but now science has gotten involved! (18:26) Most people have a bucket list, but do you have an anti-Bucket list?  After going through knee surgery last year, Anna has decided that there are some things she never wants to do again! (29:37) Neil's estranged father has reached out to him and his wife, Harper, to offer to pay for their two children's private schooling. Neil does not want to take the money because he has a tumultuous relationship with his father. He calls him a narcissist and thinks this is a way to use his money to get back into their lives. Harper says that it's an incredible opportunity and it's to benefit their children, they have to take him up on it. What would you do? (36:50) Joseph has got a shot at $2400!  All he has to do is beat Raven in pop culture trivia! (45:05)

National Day Calendar

Welcome to January 1st, 2023 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate a gruesome drink and a fresh start.  If you're looking for a “hair of the dog” that bit you during last night's reveling, consider the Bloody Mary. It's become a brunch staple, but how did this drink get such a gruesome name? Many people assume it's because of Mary Tudor, Henry VIII's first daughter. But the widely accepted story is that a Paris bartender in the 1920s created a cocktail of tomato juice and vodka. One of the patrons loved the drink and suggested the name "Bloody Mary” because it reminded him of a Chicago bar called Bucket of Blood Club, and a girl named Mary who worked there. On National Bloody Mary Day celebrate with this classic drink that helps repair the most ghoulish hangover. New Year's Day is one of the most recognized holidays around the world. Though it has been celebrated for thousands of years, the exact beginning of a new year has gone through many changes. In ancient Rome, the calendar started with Martius or March and only had ten months. January and February were added later and the twelve month Julian calendar was eventually adopted. In ancient Babylon, new year's resolutions were about paying back debts and returning borrowed stuff. If that is on your list it's a great start. As the new year begins, may we follow the advice of Ralph Waldo Emerson who said, “Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.” We hope you will join us as we find new reasons to celebrate together.  I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day!  Learn more about your ad choices.
