Today's guest is one of my executive function coaching clients, Helena Bowen. Helena is a speaker coach and speechwriter and supports speakers for TED, TEDx, and other major events. She has ADHD and came on the show to share her experience and what she's learned about herself and her brain over the years. We talk about how Helena is learning to move beyond the frustrating and self-critical thought: “I know what to do, so why can't I just do it?” Through coaching and her own experiments and data collection, she's shifting away from viewing her struggles as character flaws—and instead, getting curious about what's really going on.You'll hear Helena describe how she discovered that what looked like task initiation challenges were actually self-regulation challenges - moments of getting stuck while avoiding the difficult emotions that came up when faced with certain tasks. She opens up about the creative and often unexpected strategies that help her follow through - timers everywhere, mood tracking with the How We Feel app, absurdly tiny task breakdowns, and even art supplies and a foundation brush to outsmart her own brain and build systems that actually work for her. Doing things differently is part of being neurodivergent, and Helena rocks it and then some. I'm excited to share this conversation. I'm so proud of Helena and the work she's done for herself in coaching over the last year and a half. I hope you'll see yourself in Helena's story, feel less alone, and maybe even feel brave enough to try something different. I know I have learned a lot from her approach to her EF challenges, so I hope you do, too! Here are the show notes from today's episode: Learn More About Helena BowenWebsitehttps://www.helenabowen.comInstagram and TikTok@helenaspeakingLearn More about Procrastination and MoreWorld's Leading Expert On How To Solve Procrastination - Dr Tim Pychylhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGIUtVu7w4YStruggle Care Ep. 70: How to Coach Your Executive Functioning with Hannah Choihttps://www.strugglecare.com/podcast-rss/70-how-to-coach-your-executive-functioning-with-hannah-choiEp 11: Procrastination: Why We Wait & What to Do About Ithttps://www.beyondbooksmart.com/podcast?wchannelid=y1lzulxlcs&wmediaid=n2bmc91r6dEp 43: Creativity & Executive Function: How to Enjoy the Brain Benefits of Eachhttps://www.beyondbooksmart.com/podcast?wchannelid=y1lzulxlcs&wmediaid=2o3uog9wpoEp 63: Big Tasks, Tiny Steps: A Procrastinator's Guide to Getting Stuff Donehttps://www.beyondbooksmart.com/podcast?wchannelid=y1lzulxlcs&wmediaid=ww20vsahvw

Our brain experiences pleasure by simply anticipating the fun event. For every right decision, our brain rewards itself with a dose of neurotransmitters that calm the limbic system and help us once again see the world in a better light. Advisable not to keep your problems pent up. Whenever you talk about them, your brain triggers the production of serotonin and even manages to find some positive sides to the situation. To us, humans, social interaction is important. Various forms of physical support, especially touch and embraces, can speed up a person's recovery from an illness. For the brain, acquiring new knowledge means permanent adaptation to a changing environment. Using this process, our brain develops, rewarding its own attempts to absorb and process new information with dopamine, the hormone of joy. Physical activity is stress for the body. As soon as the stress ends, your body gets a reward: a dose of endorphins, released by the pituitary gland. While we sleep in the dark, our body secretes the hormone melatonin. This hormone slows down all processes in the body, helping it to recover and increasing the level of serotonin in the hypothalamus. When we say a person, or even fate, for something, we focus ourselves on the positive aspects of life. Pleasant memories trigger serotonin production in the anterior cingulate cortex. Podologists recommend not just wiping your feet after showering but patting with a towel between your toes. Otherwise, the remaining moisture can cause a fungal infection. The tannins contained in tea leaves eradicate bacteria and reduce sweating. An apple cider vinegar poultice will also help dispose of foot odor. Apply antiperspirant in the evening, after a shower, to dry skin. Antiperspirants contain chemicals that help reduce sweating. If your feet not only smell bad but also start itching and peeling, go to the doctor. These may be symptoms of ringworm, an infection, or mycosis. It's better to have two pairs of shoes for each season to wear them in turns. Put on a pair of thick socks and then your favorite shoes. Run the hair dryer over the tight parts of the shoe. Walk around in the shoes until they are completely cool, and repeat the action if necessary. Fill a plastic bag with water, and put it inside your shoes. Place them in the freezer, and freeze them overnight. When you take them out in the morning, you'll notice that your shoes became wider as the water turned into ice. This trick can widen your new training shoes and even loafers. Push a fresh potato inside the shoe, and leave it overnight. Apply some moisturizing cream inside the shoe, paying attention to heel and toe areas. The moisturizer will soften the leather and as you wear the shoes the next day, your feet will slightly reshape them. Spray enough alcohol on the tight areas from inside the shoes so they are wet. Stuff the shoes with crumpled paper overnight. Being a soldier often requires some real-life MacGyvering. But you don't have to be in the military to benefit from tips like putting duct tape on your feet to prevent blisters or using cotton balls and Vaseline to get your campfire started. Here are 11 hacks from the men and women in uniform that'll make your life a lot easier! For instance, there's a very particular hack when it comes to those super shiny soldier shoes. Take a generous amount of shoe shine, rub it on your leather shoes or boots, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Then, go over the area with a lighter or flame, and get ready to see your own reflection! For a finishing touch, use a clean damp cloth to polish the surface. If you want to know about other tricks, watch the video! TIMESTAMPS: Duct taping your feet 0:40 Ladder lacing for added ankle support 1:25 Maxi pads for first-aid 2:38 Putting sugar on wounds 3:17 Running tights for added warmth 3:52 Super shiny shoes 4:19 The military tuck 5:00 Cotton and Vaseline as a fire starter 5:42 Lose a tail when driving 6:18 Making a pristine bed 6:39 Peeing in the shower 7:34 #militaryhacks #lifehacks #makeyourlifeeasier Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - Nowadays, soldiers use duct tape to prevent blisters and calluses caused by those notoriously uncomfortable military boots. - If you still have a lot of lace left (although you shouldn't with this laddering technique), just wrap it around your ankle and then tie it. Tuck the remaining laces inside your shoe. - In case of an emergency, you can use sanitary pads to prevent a wound from bleeding out. - Speaking of first-aid in a pinch, you can put sugar on a wound to prevent bacterial infection. Don't worry because this unconventional medical treatment has scientific backing based on a study by the University of Arizona's College of Medicine. - Running or compression tights aren't just for jogging or making a fashion statement. You can wear them under almost any pants without them being noticeable. - Covering cotton balls in petroleum jelly and lighting them on fire, you get a strong but steady flame that keeps on burning. A great hack next time you go camping! - If you ever feel like the driver in your rearview mirror is following you, all you gotta do is make 4 consecutive turns in a row. This is usually the best way to lose a tail! - According to the medical community, it actually prevents and cures athlete's foot! Urine has natural properties like uric acid and ammonia that help fight fungal infections. In this video, I discuss essential strategies to make your life easier as a day trader. Contrary to popular belief, there is no magic solution; instead, success in trading comes from consistent application of effective techniques. The focus is on the importance of obtaining a good entry point, which provides an upper hand and makes trade management significantly easier. I share two examples illustrating how a good entry point can lead to better trade outcomes, including a live demonstration where I made $150 in under one second. The video emphasizes that while aspects like risk management and platform choice are important, they are secondary to securing a solid entry point.

Then she discovered the solution to the chaos was  to simplify and systemize her home to support life-changing habits. Today, I'd like to tell a little story about my evolution as an athlete and as a trainer. In this episode, I talk about how I went from World Champion powerlifter to mobility aficionado in less than a decade. I changed my philosophy for many reasons, one of them being that I wanted to move without pain for the rest of my life. This episode will help give you some of the tools necessary to do that as well. No one ever said that getting a dog was easy. Or if they did, well, they were totally lying. Puppies, in general, are a lot of work, they're like babies that way. That's why it's called raising – you're putting in the time and effort to teach them how to behave. Once your dog starts learning new skills and develops their own personality traits, however, that's a reward on its own. It also develops your bond even further and helps create a love between you and the pup. Join host, Michele Forto the lead trainer of Alaska Dog Works. Here we help you build the best relationship possible with your K9 Buddy. Have you been feeling overwhelmed and wishing life was just easier? You're not alone. We all face challenges with money, health, relationships, and more. But what if there were some surprisingly simple mindset shifts that could lift the burden?   In this episode, I share five powerful lessons and ways of thinking that can make your life much easier. These insights were gained over decades of apprenticing with a shaman and integrating ancient wisdom.   Here are a few of the powerful insights I shared:   Everything always has been, is now, and will always be fine. Adopting this mindset eliminates worry and fear. You are where your attention is. Your focus and perceptions shape your reality. Fear is the idleness of will.  As creators, we have the power to manifest the outcomes we intend and that is why our self-talk and inner dialogue impact what we create.    The world is this way or that way because you tell yourself it is this way or that way. Your inner assumptions become your reality. There are only two core human emotions: love and fear. The key is focusing on love rather than fear.   Transformational Takeaway: These five powerful lessons can truly make your life easier if embraced fully. Let go of worry and fear, become master of your attention, use your will intentionally, change your self-talk, and choose love over fear. What shifts in perspective and habits could have the biggest positive impact on your life right now? VISIT THE SHOW NOTES HERE FOR MORE: https://www.jimfortin.com/299   LIKED THE EPISODE?
