So in the weeks before the lockdown, before we knew Covid would arrive in the UK, Lizi broke up with her long-term parnter, her mum got diagnosed with and treated for cancer, she quit her job, left her home in Bristol, and moved in with her mum. It doesn't sound like it, but it is the MOST JOYOUS and funny podcast I've made so far. Lizi is a ray of light and I really want you to hear it! An absolutely lovely and kind chat with a clever and compassionate woman. Kate is an amazing songwriter, performer and record maker, and we get into the detail about how we make our records (we are both in progress as we make this!) and how we feel about it. For the first time in a podcast I (Nuala Honan) do a lot more talking about my own experiences and goings on. Also some interesting differences in life in lock down in Paris and just a lot of giggling. Additional music today provided by Simon Panrucker www.soundcloud.com/simonpanrucker I'm releasing this VERY FUNNY podcast with my brother today because IT IS HIS BIRTHDAY! Happy Birthday to my number one muse, you are funny and brave and annoying and I love/hate when you challenge me to be courageous and the best I can be. I am largely who I am because of you. We have been speaking on the phone every day since lock down (he's in Australia), which we started to help his extreme struggle with depression and loneliness. These things are linked to, and also separate from, his mental illness, which he explains is kind of still misdiagnosed. It occurred to me I'm releasing this during Mental Health Awareness Week. My brother would probably hate that, he does not get along with things like Mental Health Awareness Week. I would encourage you to ask him why, but you probably won't like what he'll say. Things like MHAW have been really instrumental in helping me find the vocabulary to talk about my own health, and to feel comfortable talking about it to others, who are probably more open to receiving it, because of things like MHAW. I have struggled with anxiety, stress, low mood, and carry around a deep melancholy and self-loathing mostly as a result of being chronically bullied in my childhood. I have received years of low-cost therapy, attended NHS workshops, paid for mindfulness courses, and have found great strength and understanding from continuing to share my journey of growth with my friends and family. At the risk of paraphrasing and getting it wrong, I think my brother finds things like MHAW problematic because he struggles to get the right and compassionate help, care, medication, funding and general daily respect from we, the public, that is his right as a gorgeous human being. So on Mental Health Awareness Week, have a listen to this podcast, we accidentally bust some myths about people with schizophrenia/personality disorders/mental illness just through a charming bit of banter! Please join me wishing Liam Happy Birthday, because he's GLORIOUS and deserves ALL THE LOVE. AND HE IS 38 HAHAHAHA, OLD MAN!
