Jazz in the Park Festival aduce în 2025 în România, un line-up divers: Ibrahim Maalouf, Kokoroko, Biréli Lagrène, Seun Kuti & Fela's Egypt 80, Alabaster DePlume, Mammal Hands, Transylvania Jazz Orchestra, Berti Barbera & Sebastian Burneci Quintet, Sorvina, Amphitrio, jazzbois și New Fossils. În 2019, Jazz in the Park a câștigat trofeul categoriei „Best Small European Festival”, la cea de-a XI-a ediție a prestigioasei competiții European Festival Awards.
(01:50) Alabaster Deplume feat. Bside Incoming: Soccer96 For show #178 we welcome London's dynamic duo - Soccer96, who have curated a unique blend of synthesizers and drums, specializing in a captivating fusion of jazz, prog, and electronica. The duo's members are Danalogue (Dan Leavers) and Betamax (Max Hallett), this genre-defying act draws inspiration from hip-hop, post-punk, and funk, showcased in their 2021 release "Dopamine" and 2022's "Inner Worlds." 'Inner words' album - https://soccer96.bandcamp.com/album/inner-worlds 'Dopamine' album - https://soccer96.bandcamp.com/album/dopamine As well as their project 'Soccer96', the busy duo are 2 out of 3 members of their band 'The Comet Is Coming', along side the tallented tennor sax player - Shabaka Hutchings. Together, they orchestrate an electrifying fusion of jazz, techno, and dance influences, punctuated by hard-hitting grooves that are bound to move both the body and the soul. https://thecometiscoming.bandcamp.com/ The inception of Soccer96 dates back to 2012 with the release of their acclaimed self-titled debut LP, followed by a string of high-profile performances and a notable collaboration with Can frontman Damo Suzuki. Their sophomore full-length, "As Above So Below," dropped in 2016, drawing inspiration from the likes of Silver Apples, This Heat, and Flying Lotus. Their 2018 release, "Rewind," embraced the beat tape aesthetic with heavy tape saturation and analog mixing. Upon joining Moshi Moshi Records, Soccer96 joined forces with vocalist and saxophonist Alabaster DePlume for the 2020 "Tactics" EP. Their fourth full-length album, "Dopamine," emerged in 2021, featuring guest vocalists Salami Rose Joe Louis and Nuha Ruby Ra. Their 2022 release, "Inner Worlds," continued their tradition of collaboration, with songs co-written by Rozi Plain, the Colours That Rise, and bassist Tom Herbert (Polar Bear, the Invisible). Documentary adventures that invite a closer listen.Infamous during the Greenham Common protests of the 1980s for the recklessness of her activism and her multiple prison sentences (as heard in Lights Out: Greenham Convictions), Lyn Barlow now lives quietly in Somerset. She spends her time making textile art, huge tapestries that document the turbulence of her childhood in care and the struggles of her adulthood - both with the State and herself. Now that her work is on display in Watchet's East Quay gallery, in an exhibition shared with Grayson Perry called Common Thread, Lyn reflects on the textures, the threads and the imagery of her life.Produced by Alan Hall (with music by Alabaster DePlume, licensed courtesy of Domino Publishing Company Limited.) If To Cy & Lee: Instrumentals, Vol. 1 from 2020 served as a soothing sonic refuge at precisely the right moment, and 2022's GOLD stood as a powerful declaration that radical empathy can truly transform our world for the better, then Come With Fierce Grace, Alabaster DePlume's (aka Gus Fairbairn) latest album on the Chicago Jazz label International Anthem, emerges as a testament to how this empathy can profoundly shape an artist's journey while also influencing those around them. Grace exhibits a distinct sense of liberation, a slight departure from the more structured vibes of his previous two releases, and while it sometimes explicitly references that previous work, those touchpoints often only serve as a springboard into uncharted and audacious sonic territories. On this very special episode, we're sitting down with Gus to talk about his mission to make space for and facilitate joy, the beautiful chaos of his live shows, and much, much more. ------We're able to bring you great conversations like this and more because of your generous support. On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got a very mellow, very lovely conversation between a woman known for her gorgeous voice and heartfelt songwriting and a man known for, as he calls it, “wobbly saxophone,” Beth Orton and Alabaster dePlume. Beth Orton has been making beautiful, often heartbreaking songs since the early 1990s, when she was a leading light in what I think is a now-forgotten genre called “folktronica.” She first found notice by contributing vocals to a few Chemical Brothers songs, then broke out with her timeless debut album Trailer Park in 1996. She has since created a lovely and varied body of work that's explored a variety of sounds but that's tied together by her unforgettable voice. Orton's latest album is from last year: It's called Weather Alive, which to me sounds like a spiritual heir to Van Morrison's classic Astral Weeks, which may in part be because it features the saxophone playing of today's other guest, Alabaster dePlume. Check out a little bit of “Fractals” right here, and definitely go see Orton on tour this fall; she'll be back in the States this September. Bethortonofficial.com has all the dates. Alabaster dePlume picked up the saxophone in 2007, but sort of reinvented himself—including taking on that stage name—in 2015. He became a fixture in London's improvisational jazz scene not long after, and a lot of what he does is centered around the recording studio/gathering place where this conversation was recorded, Total Refreshment Centre. DePlume broke out in 2020 with an album called To Cy & Lee, which was inspired by and named after some folks he helped as a mental-health support worker. In a couple of weeks, he'll release a new album called Come With Fierce Grace, whose initial sessions were done during the pandemic with Tom Skinner, a drummer who's currently also a member of the Radiohead offshoot The Smile. Check out “Greek Honey Slick” from the new album, and check out alabaster-deplume.com for his schedule, which includes a month of U.S. shows in September. As I mentioned at the top of this intro, this chat is both lovely and very mellow. DePlume is a soothing presence whose spirit seems powered almost exclusively by love, and Orton is happy to participate. They chat about the climate-activism event that landed dePlume in jail and found Orton chased off the stage; they talk about angry yoga and the joys of triangle chokes, and Orton points out how technological advances can help women artists. Find your zen and enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast and thanks to Beth Orton and Alabaster dePlume for chatting. If you liked what you heard, please follow Talkhouse on your favorite podcasting platform, and check out all the goodness on this very site. This episode was produced by Myron Kaplan, and the Talkhouse theme is composed and performed by the Range. See you next time.
Depending on who you talk to, friends of composers, performers, and producers often present them as “prolific”. Which makes sense. No one wants to admit to sedentary songwriting, right? But when you come across someone with a truly bountiful output, more often than not, they’re not bragging; they’re just dedicated craftspeople who love to create. On her first album in six years, “Weather Alive,” English singer/songwriter Beth Orton takes the reins to self-produce and record in her home studio in London. “Fractals” features jazz poet Alabaster dePlume on sax, The Smile drummer Tom Skinner, and multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismally. “Through the writing of these songs and the making of this music, I found my way back to the world around me,” Orton says. “A way to reach nature and the people I love and care about.”

A trilha fica com Alabaster DePlume, I'm Good at Not Crying e Ibibio Sound Machine com Protection from Evil. Alabaster DePlume - I'm Good at Not Crying - from the 2022 album GOLD on International Anthem. Quirkiness is in the cards with a nom de plume like Alabaster DePlume. The London-based poet/songwriter (real name: Gus Fairbairn) has just released his cheekily-titled sophomore album, Gold, a 2xLP collection, captured chaotically. During the 2020 recording sessions, DePlume invited a different set of musicians each day to record the same songs at the same speed. Two rules were in place: one, that musicians wouldn't be given enough time to rehearse, and two, that they wouldn't listen back to the music they recorded. “They didn't have enough preparation to be able to hide behind this piece of material or skill,” he said via his Bandcamp. “They had to look up and respond to each other, and that's what we've recorded.” DePlume then took the recordings, slicing them together seamlessly. “The method is part of the mission. It wasn't like school. We had mayhem. We were having fun. That's the story and the process – and I want to live that way,” he adds. Midterms continue this week on My Little Underground! Conor Rooney returns for our annual conversation of our favorite full length albums from January to June. Conor was really into the releases from Soul Glo (as did I), Angel Olsen, William Basinski & Janek Schaefer, Alabaster dePlume, and Spoon. As for myself, I talk up long players from Ravyn Lenae, Czarface, Jeanines, Combo Chimbita, and Benny The Butcher. I also get Conor's thoughts on the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Perfume Genius collaboration and he gets my opinion of the strange but understandable rollout of the new Black Star album. Back on the Eigg! After a month of touring, PICTISH TRAIL is suddenly realising that he should have done a lot more admin while on the road, and a lot less research of the locations of motorway service stations with a Greggs bakery; meanwhile Lost Map's in-house sonic-sommelier, LAURA DOHERTY rejoins the pod, and fills us in on the various boozes she's imbibed whilst pretending to watch a gig.We are delighted to announce the return of V I S I T ▲ T I O N S, our residency series on the Isle of Eigg, where we invite musicians to stay on the island, and record new music for us. We have integrated the project into our POSTMAP CLUB series, and our featured interview this month is with indie-pop singer-songwriter, EMMA KUPA - who stayed at St Franny's Bothan for a week in late-June 2021. She tells us of her beginnings in music, her work with STANDARD FARE, THE HAYMAN KUPA BAND, MAMMOTH PENGUINS, as well as the story behind her debut solo album, and - of course - the time she spent on the island making a nine-track mini-album for VISITATIONS. The long-awaited sophomore solo concertina album “B” from Cormac Begley is our album of the week/month/year and in this latest instalment of our series on new musical discoveries, Dónal explains why. We also get to marvel at some more instrumental virtuosity from saxophonists Alabaster dePlume and Patrick Shiroishi. There's a pair of exciting dispatches from the new frontier of sound by Irish producers Kean Kavanagh and Lullahush as well as a reminder of why the name of London-based Nigerian artist Tony Njoku is one to watch. The return of Kelly Lee Owens is celebrated and due praise given to the production mastery of boundary-pushing electronic pioneers Floating Points and Maya Jane Coles. Alabaster DePlume's (aka Gus Fairbairn) To Cy & Lee: Instrumentals, Vol. 1, was roundly praised as one of the best albums of 2020 and served as a balm for music fans of all types as they settled into a new, pandemic reality. Now he's back with GOLD, an uplifting, quasi-spiritual journey towards understanding the value of self-worth in a world where it may no longer be valued. Part free-jazz, part primitive hymnal, GOLD builds on the strengths of DePlume's earlier work to coalesce into his strongest statement on our shared humanity to date.PLUS! Music we love from Durham, NC's The Dead Tongues, Peter Broderick & Friends covering Arthur Russell, and more!Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/discologist. The term ‘avant-garde’ tends to get thrown around egregiously in the world of music, especially by up-and-coming acts who have yet to realize that their sound falls within more recognizable genres. So when an artist authentically encapsulates ‘avant-garde’ in a way that’s not just ‘weird for the sake of weird’, it can be pretty refreshing. […]
