Welcome back to the latest episode of This Week in Aruba, which covers the events from Friday, December 14th to Thursday, December 20th also known as timeshare week 50. I typically use Google Maps. Now you may ask how can you use Google Maps without connectivity? You simply have to download the Aruba section from the map prior to losing connectivity. Once you do that, you have basic lead directions for a period of 30 or 90 days before you have to re-download the map. I use it all the time and it has never failed me. Happy Thanksgiving week everyone! I know the holidays can be exciting for some and rough for others, so my friend Laura and I decided to podcast on the art of forgiveness. Ironically, our podcast revolves around pop culture phenomenons that we are working on, but have not fully forgiven. We will be walking approximately 10 – 15 km’s. In 2015, I walked the Camino Frances to Santiago de Compostela in 40 days and averagely 22 km’s per day. In 2017, I walked via the Camino Norte and Camino Primitivo to Santiago de Compostela. And I just returned from Spain where I walked from Leon to Santiago in 13 days. I love to share some of my best practices on the Camino whilst walking. And it is also fun to practice together, share some pilgrim stories and have some meaningful conversations and grow our nature awareness together. Our topic for discussion is the weather that took place down the island on this week. The weather over there is mostly not a topic of interest because it’s consistently good. However, this week, they experienced weather that was out of the ordinary. We weren’t there to personally experience it, but thanks to modern technology, we were able to see how tropical depression Kirk affected the island. It’s not as devastating as other hurricanes, however for a couple of days it affected the people’s ability to enjoy their vacations and also did quite a bit of damage on some properties. Podcast production gets easier as you do it more. Naturally, right? That’s at least part of the reason I thought it might be helpful for YOU, the listener, to hear from a couple of guys who, between the two of us (and our teams), probably have our hands on over 100 episodes per week. We’ve learned a few things about podcast production (much of it the hard way) and would love it if you did NOT repeat our mistakes. Funny stuff happens during podcast production. Here’s some proof. Hugh Cornwell was one of the major figures in early British punk rock. He was the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter in The Stranglers, the hugely influential band who scaled the charts with hits like No More Heroes, Peaches, and Always The Sun, and always marched to the beat of their own drum. Hugh smuggled Leon Trotsky into the charts and more covertly heroin – the real subject of their 1981 hit single Golden Brown. But he left the band 25 years ago to concentrate on his own recordings – earlier this month he released The Fall And Rise Of Hugh Cornwell, the first anthology of his post-Stranglers career, and he’s just begun a major acoustic tour of the UK. Here Hugh talks about his formative years in Kentish Town, North London, the band he formed with schoolmate Richard Thompson (later of Fairport Convention fame), and why he decided to go solo. Along the way he discusses the drug bust that saw him do time in Pentonville prison, biochemistry, his novels and his journey from entertaining gobbing yobs at those dangerously thrilling early punk gigs to literary snobs at the more refined Hay-on-Wye literary festival.
