At 39, Hollye Jacobs went in for a routine mammogram and received a life-changing breast cancer diagnosis—suddenly moving from caregiver to patient. In this deeply human conversation, Hollye, a nurse, social worker, and resilience coach, shares how she navigated treatment with intention rather than panic, drawing on both clinical expertise and lived experience. We talk about advocating for yourself, assembling the right medical team, why a cancer diagnosis feels urgent (and often isn't), and the importance of palliative care, nutrition, psychosocial support, and psychosocial support. Hollye also explains why children should be included—not shielded—in a family's cancer journey, and how honest, developmentally appropriate communication can reduce fear.At the heart of the episode is Hollye's concept of “silver linings”—not forced positivity, but small moments of balance that help carry us through hard days. From reframing language like “yet” to redefining resilience as adaptation and transformation, Hollye offers practical tools for navigating life's hardest seasons.Whether you're navigating illness, caregiving, or a major life transition, this conversation offers tools you can return to again and again. Tune in to hear how resilience can be practiced—and how even the smallest silver linings can make a meaningful difference.Hosted on Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.
Ruthie Polinsky and Clay Harbor recap the Bears' regular-season finale loss to the Lions, unpacking the biggest moments and evaluating how the performance sets the tone heading into the playoffs. They spotlight Colson Loveland's impact in the loss, assess the main lessons from the game, and identify encouraging signs to take away despite the disappointing result in Ruthie's "Silver Linings" segment. Later, the focus turns to a Bears-Packers Wild Card preview, breaking down the key storylines in a postseason meeting between longtime rivals. The guys then get “Wired In” with a closer look at Caleb Williams' season, including his near-4,000-yard campaign and a new Bears single-season passing mark, before wrapping up with what's trending across the NFL as the coaching turnover begins.

It's been another wild week around here with the Oilers rollercoaster making another loop, and I've got a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never ready to recap it all. On today's podcast, I talked about whether the Oilers are turning the corner, kept up with the goalie rumours, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' return, and much more.Just when you might be reaching max frustration levels, I'm back with another round of wondering if the Edmonton Oilers are finally turning the corner. After a strong showing in Seattle on the weekend, the Oilers returned home to face the red-hot Minnesota Wild, and I'm wondering if I'm the only one who wasn't overly pissed off about that loss. I also checked in on the latest round of goalie rumours after things had quietened down quite a bit in terms of Stan Bowman pulling the trigger to get one. Will we get a new goalie before the off-season? Is Stuart Skinner heating up, pushing off the decision for a while longer? Only time will give us the answers, but that didn't stop me from wading in with my takes anyway. Finally, I wrapped up this week's episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating from Kyle, then closed out the podcast with another round of voicemails. The voicemail was alive this week, and everyone's takes were all over the map and very fun to listen to. The voicemail is my favourite way to wrap up the show and give everyone a chance to share their thoughts. Another hearty thank you to everyone who contributed to this week's episode. Having all of you in the mix makes the show so much better.Want to leave a voicemail for next week's show? Do it here!

Chris Russell opens the show with raw reaction to Washington's Sunday night loss to the Broncos, then digs deeper into what the tape actually shows. He pushes back on the idea that the defense “improved” simply by playing more zone, highlighting the plays where coverage still broke down. Despite the frustration, the Rooster also spotlights several positives; young contributors, key adjustments, and moments of real growth that emerged even in defeat. A balanced, detailed look at a complicated loss.

The Wisconsin Badgers just got thumped 31–7 by No. 2 Indiana on the road, dropping to 3–7 in a season that's testing everyone's patience — but it wasn't all doom and gloom. We break down Carter Smith's first start as the first true freshman QB to start for Wisconsin since 1991, his 45-yard touchdown strike to Lance Mason, the defense racking up five sacks on Heisman contender Fernando Mendoza, and how the game slipped away in the second half with just 23 total yards after halftime. We'll also talk about the scary Gideon Ituka injury and the positive early reports on his status. Then we pivot to basketball, where Wisconsin is off to a 3–0 start, blowing out Campbell, Northern Illinois, and Ball State behind big showings from John Blackwell, Nolan Winter, and Nick Boyd as the Badgers look like a legit Top-25 squad. Tap in for honest reaction, real context, and a little hope for where both programs go from here.

Despite the tough loss, the Seahawks offense showed a lot of promise. We saw a stellar performance from Sam Darnold and an incredible game by Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Special teams also delivered, with several impressive returns and a soul stealing tackle. But, the defensive struggles were evident, as the Seahawks had issues with coverage and tackling. We get into some of the individual mistakes and poor decisions that contributed to the loss, and highlighting areas where the team needs to improve. After a three hour delay due to inclement weather, Purdue lost to USC at Ross-Ade...but there were some silver linings to the many clouds that we were under today
All Home Care Matters and our host, Lance A. Slatton were honored to welcome back the team behind the film "No Country for Old People" About "No Country for Old People": A filmmaker chronicles her mother's last 6 months in a 5-star nursing home exposing what is a national systemic, deadly, profit-over-people business model. No Country For Old People; a Nursing Home Exposé is a scorching documentary posed to set the long-term care industry, policy makers, and the country ablaze. Shining a much-needed light on what is truly a national human emergency. No Country for Old People; a Nursing Home Exposé is a 3-part documentary that exposes the dark realities of neglect and abuse in nursing homes and throughout U.S. long-term care industry. The film answers four questions: What happens. 2. How does it happen? 3. Why does it happen? 4. And how do we fix it? The film highlights a systemic crisis - the result of corporate greed - that has been taking a devastating human toll within the walls of our nation's long-term care facilities for decades. The film weaves personal loss with journalistic rigor, exposing a pattern of abuse that is enabled by profit-first models that include chronic understaffing, undertraining, and financial exploitation. PERSONAL STORIES AND EMOTIONAL IMPACT: The filmmaker's own experience with her mother along with other emotional testimonies emphasize the human cost of systemic failure and illustrate the severe consequences of poor nursing home care. The film is both deeply personal and widely resonant — amplifying voices too often silenced and inviting viewers to confront uncomfortable truths about aging, policy, and accountability in America. About Susie Singer Carter: Susie Singer Carter is a multi-award-winning, Oscar qualified filmmaker, writer, director, producer, actor, podcast producer, host, and Caregiver Advocate. She is best known for writing, directing, and producing the 2018 Oscar qualified short film, My Mom and The Girl starring Valerie Harper in her final performance, writing and producing “Bratz the Movie” for Lionsgate, and co-producing “Soul Surfer” for Sony. Susie also produces and hosts the podcast Love Conquers Alz – awarded BEST PODCAST 2020 by New Media Film Festival and is #4 on Feedspots' 2022 25 Best Alzheimer's Podcasts list. Susie is also the co-creator, co-writer, co-star, and director of the outrageous horror/comedy narrative podcast I Love Lucifer, nominated Best Audio Fiction 2023 by Indie Series Awards. Susie wrote the screenplay, “RUN”, based on the book “Plain Jane” and is attached to direct in spring 2024. She is currently writing, producing, and directing a docuseries, No Country For Old People, which centers on the Nursing Home Neglect and the systemic healthcare crisis responsible for it. She is also a host of the Writers Guild of America West's 3rd & Fairfax Podcast. About Rick Mountcastle: Mr. Mountcastle is the former United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia (2017-2018) and is a retired award-winning federal and state prosecutor. He led the prosecution of Purdue Pharma for fraudulently marketing OxyContin, as portrayed in the Emmy-nominated limited miniseries "Dopesick" (streaming on Hulu). He also led the criminal and civil prosecution of Abbott Laboratories for fraudulently marketing the anti-epileptic, Depakote, for use as a chemical restraint for dementia patients in nursing homes, resulting in Abbott's guilty plea to a felony and payment of $1.5 billion, at the time the largest penalty against a pharmaceutical company for misconduct related to a single drug. Mr. Mountcastle spent his career prosecuting healthcare companies and executives who exploited vulnerable patients for profit, and brings his passion to change a system that allows such exploitation to this project. About Don Priess: For over two decades, Don Priess has shunned sleep in order to become a highly sought-after, award winning writer, producer, director and editor. He co-founded Modern Media, now one of the top marketing and infomercial production companies in the world. After six years and hundreds of TV and radio commercials, Don decided to spread his wings and since his credits include projects for CBS/Dic Entertainment, Nickelodeon, Buena Vista, American Movie Classics, Lifetime, Hanna-Barbera, Playboy Entertainment and more. While continuing to work on a wide variety of entertainment projects, Don teamed with the highly energetic and talented Susie Singer Carter as part of Go Girl Media. Together they were the writers and Co-Executive Producers of two series for CBS, “CAKE” and “DANCE REVOLUTION”, SURVIVING HAWKING, and “SILVER LININGS” for Fox Television Studios.
