Try the 12 Steps! No really. Where else can you find such a supported system that has been studied with a proven track record? Really. There are many programs and systems out there for you to try, but none of them are as widely supported or imitated as much as the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. They will even refund your misery if you are not completely satisfied! What a deal! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soberpod/message
As we creep closer to the end of the year, Carl is left alone yet again while Chelsea goes out into the world and tries to adult some more. BUT! The show must go on. If even for some shameless promotion and begging for likes and subscribers! #happyholidays #sober #recovery --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soberpod/message
We go to meetings because it works. For some of us, this is our connection to a “higher power” (Group of Drunks), and for others, they consider this “Group Therapy”. But as we have discovered, addiction and alcoholism are probably the only “diseases” WE can “TALK TO DEATH." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soberpod/message
Well, this had to happen eventually. We had to listen to this chapter about the literature on AA. It's okay; not our best episode, but we did it! Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving in the U.S. and we look forward to better chapters ahead. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soberpod/message
Getting a new perspective on your problem is always a good thing, but it does take time for the alcoholic. We live in a state of thinking that has been caked with layers of denial. Not an easy process to knock down those walls. Listen to Chelsea and Carl as they discuss OLD IDEAS. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soberpod/message
Are you planning on attending parties this holiday season? How about a wedding? Funeral? Birthday? Just about anything can turn into a drinking occasion. It is best to be prepared and walk softly and carry a big drink (non-alcoholic of course). So, listen in as Carl and Chelsea discuss their strategies for attending drinking occasions. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soberpod/message
If you had my life, you'd drink too. If you had my husband, you'd drink too. If you had anywhere near the issues I did today, you'd be shit-faced! Right? Not really, but let's discuss what makes the “If” word so dangerous to the average addict/alcoholic. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soberpod/message
Okay, you've heard it before, don't get into a relationship within the first year of recovery. In matters of the heart sobriety and especially early sobriety can be devastating. Carl and Chelsea talk about early recovery, marriage, relationships, etc. It's not always pretty… --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soberpod/message
You need help! No really! We think we all do! What kind of help is entirely up to you. Or is it? What we do know is that 12-steps or other groups can only serve at a limited capacity for what is needed in our lives. We must be willing to look beyond our “program” for professional and sometimes, necessary help. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soberpod/message
We all know that one person who literally can't stop feeling sorry for themselves and the funny part is, that it's probably you. Have you looked in the mirror lately? Are you newly sober and thinking “Why me?” why am “I” the alcoholic?” Well, that's self-pity. Let Carl and Chelsea tell you just how shitty it is. :) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soberpod/message

Join Carl and Dr. by Dr. Peg O'Connor as they discuss Dr. O'Connor's new book “Higher and Friendly Powers: Transforming Addiction and Suffering” Written over the course of a 10+ year period, the book details some of the background and experience around William James, philosopher, psychologist, and intellectual giant of the early 20th century. By acting as our personal field guide through the world of William James, Peg shows that "higher power" as James conceived it is far more expansive than we might imagine. The book, which combines Peg's deep personal wisdom with James's adventurous intellect, has the power to transform the way we live. Oh well… ho-hum. ;) Don't forget to like, subscribe, etc. Yadda-yadda. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/soberpod/message

Today on #LivingSober! Carl and Chelsea talk about ‘TELEPHONE THERAPY' - a statement that sounds so antiquated, but hear it out! Give it a chance already!!!! It sometimes is the only thing that works and Carl loves to talk. Believe me!
#LivingSober! One day at a time! It's not easy at first, but we continue to review the book “Living Sober” so that we can help you along your journey, too. This episode covers eating, drinking, treats, and sweets in early recovery. We hope you have a happy, safe, and sane U.S. Independence Day!
Here we go again! Let's LIVE SOBER sections 7 and 8! We cover the Serenity Prayer and Routines in sobriety. This seems like a lot, but not really. Visit the website for show notes.
Here we go again! Let's LIVE SOBER! As we go through the book “Living Sober” we get familiar with some of our experiences when we were first getting sober. It reminds us that things weren't so easy at first. “I didn't even know who I was or what I liked.” as overheard in the rooms is a statement that truly resonates.
Hello ex-party people! Carl here! The wife and I are headed out on a much-needed vacation for the next few weeks. We have been looking forward to this for a while and we hope that it doesn't mess up your routine to get this “vacation message” instead of our normal podcast episode. So, why not take this time to like, subscribe, go back a few episodes and check out the beginnings of our coverage of the Living Sober Book. See you soon!
This week, we continue in the Living Sober Book as we hit #5! “Live and Let Live” - is the slogan, but do we really see it's true meaning when we enter the rooms? Let's explore, shall we?
The Disease of Alcoholism. - Whether you believe it to be a “disease” or a “use disorder” the fact is that you can settle the argument and accept the fact that you have a problem with drinking. What came first? The chick or the keg? Find your answer today… Give a listen.
Join Carl and Chelsea as they continue to talk about the Living Sober Book from Alcoholics Anonymous! #3 The 24-Hour Plan!
Just say ‘no'! Ha! Do you remember being told just to say ‘no'? It can feel a little like that when we first begin to stop drinking, but eventually, it can and does happen. Sometimes not so gracefully, but it can happen. The idea that ‘if you are persistent, you will get it, and if you are consistent, you will keep it' comes to mind. Join Chelsea and Carl as they discuss the book “Living Sober” and the idea behind not taking the first drink.
This week, Carl and Chelsea talk about life and whatnot. And then they talk about recovery and sobriety and the book #LivingSober! It's amazing how much just a few pages can get us started for an hour-long podcast! Ha! See you there!
Here at “new beginnings” - BWHAAHAHA!!! Get me Hans!!! “I need more hands on me as soon as possible!” - Okay! Settle down children. We are actually talking about a serious topic! People really die from this stuff. People are actually miserable from their drinking! Have you forgotten what it was like?… No. We have not forgotten, but we absolutely insist on having some fun, so you are going to have to tolerate that around here. Listen as we discuss the book “Living Sober!” from Alcoholics Anonymous from cover to cover.
Carl and Chelsea talk about asking for help and the many ways in which to ask for help and how. If you are back and square one again and re-examining things, this is the time. Give a listen and let us know what you think?
Carl and Phil (https://www.h5wellness.com/) sit down to discuss getting physical and being new in recovery. No! Not that, but actually exercising and getting healthy. There is more to it than meets the expectation. Also, Carl gets vulnerable and confesses he just can't keep up like he used to. Carl is always the last to know.
Chelsea and Carl go deep as they discuss turning their greatest deficit (weakness) in their greatest asset (strength). It's hard to identify, so that's why we use all the tools at our disposal. The 12 Steps, therapy, friend, sponsor, soberpod purpose ebook. Whatever it takes!
Today, Carl goes solo to talk about his job loss, employment status, or lack thereof. Sometimes, this road of recovery is not always pretty and we must be willing to take some lumps now and then. Just because we're sober does not mean that bad things won't happen.
Accountability to ourselves can sometimes be more complicated than being accountable to someone else. The slight degrees and ways we simply do not listen to that inner voice can be confusing. In this episode, Carl and Chelsea open the topic of responsibility to ourselves in the arch of our recovery.
Happy soberversary! So, you have a sobriety date! That's awesome! What does it mean? How much importance do you put on your date? Are anniversaries important to you? So many questions.
It's been some time since we had an interview on the show. This week was kind of special for Carl as he asked Rick to come on the show. Carl has known rick for some time and has watched him progress in his recovery and he certainly has received a lot of hope to see Rick grow. Sit back as this two old white guys talk about recovery and all that.
Responding to an ACA question, Carl gets all emotional and starts to cry, thinking… This is something we need to talk about on Sober Pod! What makes good theater? Carl crying again! Not really, but we did think that talking about self-acceptance, self-esteem, and the like would help him. :)
