In this essay, I argue that the Fourth Awokening is exhausting itself while AI-driven white-collar displacement could produce a Fifth Awokening through a broader crisis of elite overproduction. I also examine the return of class politics, the appeal of neoreaction, whether a “woke right” really exists, Zohran Mamdani's rise, the left's inability to learn from defeat, and the political trajectory of the Palestine movement.Read the written essay: https://1dimereview.substack.com/p/the-next-awokeningYou can listen to 1Dime Radio on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get podcasts.Timestamps:0:00 The Post-Woke Age7:46 Is Woke Dead, or Is It Coming Back?14:00 The Vibe Shift19:47 AI and the Fifth Awokening26:52 Elite Overproduction in STEM32:59 The FIRE Industries and Bullshit Jobs34:41 Blue-Collar Workers and the Producer Class44:12 The Appeal of Neoreaction46:52 Is There a Woke Right?52:48 Rise of Class Politics Across Left and Right55:46 Don't Mess With the Zohran1:08:59 Why Mamdani Won1:13:39 It's Not Just Optics. ✔️ Can Child Support Be Reduced If You Lose Your Job? | Los Angeles Divorce What happens to child support if you lose your job? Losing employment does not automatically cancel or reduce an existing child support order. If your income changes significantly, you may need to request a modification through the proper legal process and provide information showing the change in your financial circumstances. Simply stopping payments can allow unpaid support to continue accumulating. Acting promptly and addressing the change legally can help ensure the support order reflects the current circumstances. This video explains what parents should know about child support after a job loss and why requesting a modification may be important.

In this episode, the speaker takes aim at the state of Colorado's economic woes, specifically the jobs losses and the state's reliance on fees and mandates. The conversation delves into the world of economics and politics, where the speaker argues that the state's progressive socialist government is driving businesses away with its policies. The speaker discusses the concept of the "mandate stack," where businesses are burdened with a multitude of regulations and fees, making it difficult for them to operate. This, combined with the state's reliance on fees, has led to a significant decline in jobs, from 17,000 to 6,000. The speaker also touches on the idea that the state's government is not doing enough to address these issues, and that the Republican Party is not doing enough to take action. The speaker also critiques a study from Yale University that claims a single-payer healthcare system would save the US $1 trillion dollars a year and save 114,000 lives. However, the speaker argues that this study is based on flawed assumptions and hopes, rather than actual data. The speaker breaks down the study's claims, pointing out that the numbers are based on a study from Taiwan and a report that argues the opposite of what the Yale study claims. The conversation is a thought-provoking exploration of the state of Colorado's economy and the impact of government policies on businesses and citizens. If you're interested in learning more about the issues facing Colorado and how they can be addressed, tune in to this episode to hear the speaker's insightful analysis and critique of the state's economic woes.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hosts Sean Pyles, CFP®, and Elizabeth Ayoola check back in with five listeners who came on the show to find out whether the financial moves they made actually paid off. Bri navigated an unexpected job loss and a serious health crisis at the same time. Did a bare-bones budget, a marketplace health plan, and relentless determination hold everything together over 15 months of uncertainty? And what happened when Ellie and her husband actually followed through on their FIRE plan, retired at 44, and moved the whole family to Spain — only to find their passive income took an unplanned hit? Then: Paolo had $3 million saved at 48 and still couldn't bring himself to slow down — could a financial advisor, modeling multiple retirement scenarios, give him the confidence to finally let his money coast? David's cross-country move didn't go quite as planned, leaving him to navigate buying a home in one of the country's priciest markets while managing a long-distance rental. And Delius, who came to the show carrying $100,000 in credit card debt and a Vegas rental property, faced the question of whether selling would feel like freedom — or like giving up a lifeline. When intrusive thoughts feel like a war zone, the goal isn't to defeat every thought—it's to establish a ceasefire. Just as peace agreements are more likely to hold when neutral third parties monitor them, our mental peace is more sustainable when therapists, friends, journals, or mindfulness practices help us observe thoughts without escalating them.Key Takeaways: Intrusive thoughts can feel like repeated violations of an internal ceasefire.A neutral third party helps monitor, interpret, and de-escalate mental conflict.Therapists, trusted friends, journaling, and meditation can serve as peacekeepers. The goal is not to eliminate thoughts, but to prevent them from triggering emotional retaliation.Healing comes from creating distance between the thought and the response.Thrive With Leo Coaching: If you want to reduce your psychological pain, regain your purpose and forge your own path, go to www.thrivewithleo.com to begin your journey. If you or anyone you know is considering suicide or self-harm, or is anxious, depressed, upset, or needs to talk, there are people who want to help:In the US: Crisis Text Line: Text CRISIS to 741741 for free, confidential crisis counseling. AI job loss is real in some corners and wildly exaggerated in others, so we sort the headlines from what companies can actually implement without breaking everything. We map the roles most exposed to automation, why the AI service model may hit an ROI wall, and how to protect your career by owning the tool instead of ignoring it. • AI anxiety shows up everywhere now, even outside tech • Net job growth vs hidden disruption across industries and age groups • Ghost job postings and why job numbers can mask real pain • Roles most at risk: clerical, admin, routine processing, junior software tasks • Customer support automation promises vs the “human touch” reality • Creative work pressure and the ethics of theft-based training data • Why enterprise AI often needs a human babysitter • Token costs, poor ROI, and why “AI slop” spreads inside companies • The bubble risk: unprofitable labs, expensive licenses, and a pendulum swing • Service models, subscriptions, and the growing fight over digital ownership • Practical moves: upskill, pitch smart internal use cases, build relationships • Local impact: data centers, utilities, and why communities are pushing back Please, if this episode was meaningful to you in some way, shape, or form, leave a comment in the video. In this episode, I explore a simple but powerful idea: most of us aren't actually chasing happiness — we're trying to feel less miserable. When happiness becomes the goal, we overthink, compare, and pressure ourselves to feel a certain way. But when we shift the focus to reducing unnecessary suffering, life becomes more manageable, grounded, and sustainable.Instead of asking “How do I feel amazing?” we ask, “What's making life heavier than it needs to be?”Key takeaways:Why pursuing happiness can increase rumination and pressureHow high emotional expectations make normal days feel like failuresThe difference between happiness (a spike) and contentment (a baseline)How reducing cognitive load lowers day-to-day miseryTurning rumination into small, actionable movementFocusing on 1–3 priorities instead of overwhelming to-do listsChoosing meaningful connection over constant self-optimizationLowering the goal from “feel great” to “feel manageable”This episode isn't about forced positivity. It's about relief, proportion, and creating a life that feels lighter — not perfect.Thrive With Leo Coaching: If you want to reduce your psychological pain, regain your purpose and forge your own path, go to www.thrivewithleo.com to begin your journey. If you or anyone you know is considering suicide or self-harm, or is anxious, depressed, upset, or needs to talk, there are people who want to help:In the US: Crisis Text Line: Text CRISIS to 741741 for free, confidential crisis counseling. AI doomsdayers want us to believe mass job loss would be unprecedented. But Kathryn Anne Edwards has a sharp reminder: In the first five weeks of the pandemic, the U.S. economy shed 22.5 million jobs—larger than any single AI job-loss estimate she has seen. The difference was policy. Unemployment support, direct cash to families, and a strong public response helped workers survive the shock and helped the labor market recover. This week, Nick and Paul talk with Edwards about what the pandemic recovery can teach us about AI, automation, unemployment, and the future of work. Why do AI debates so often treat workers as passive victims and government as irrelevant? What would a serious policy response to technological disruption look like? And why should we be skeptical of billionaires and tech leaders who insist that this time, unlike every other economic transition, they are uniquely important and special? Losing a job can force valuable self-reflection about identity, values, priorities, and long-term career direction. Resilience is built through adversity, and setbacks often create the coping skills needed for future success. Letting go of shame and self-blame allows people to move forward more effectively after job loss. Professionals can reduce future career risk by developing transferable skills, adapting to industry shifts, and staying aware of emerging trends.   "Instead of looking backwards, you look forward.” — Steve Jaffe   About Steve Jaffe: Steve Jaffe is the author of The Layoff Journey From Dismissal to Discovery: Navigating the Stages of Grief After Job Loss and a four-time layoff survivor. Drawing on his own experiences and a 25-year career in advertising and marketing, including work on the iconic “What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas” campaign, he helps readers navigate job loss through the stages of grief, rebuild confidence, and move forward with clarity and resilience. What happens when you've done everything right on paper but still feel disconnected, restless, and not enough? In this coaching session, I sit down with Sean as he opens up about addiction, childhood emotional neglect, self-worth, and the internal pressure that followed him into adulthood. Together, we explore how becoming a father can surface old wounds, why self-criticism often disguises itself as discipline, and what it looks like to start building trust and safety from the inside out. This conversation is about breaking inherited patterns and learning how to become the person you needed growing up.SHOW HIGHLIGHTS00:00 Introduction & Why Sean Came On02:57 Rock Bottom, Recovery & Starting Over09:41 Growing Up Around Conflict & Emotional Instability13:23 Relationship With His Father16:11 Becoming a Father & Rewriting the Legacy17:44 The Inner Critic & Feeling Not Good Enough20:39 Control, Trust & Self-Worth23:17 Living With Intensity & Chronic Stress25:15 Feeling Seen & Understanding the Need to Escape29:16 Meeting His Younger Self32:00 Speaking to His Parents From the Present35:06 Leaving Childhood Behind40:56 Fathering the Child Within43:36 Connecting With His Future Child49:20 Practical Tools for Building Self-Trust52:53 Childhood Confusion & Identity Formation56:05 Pregnancy, Job Loss & Emotional Collapse58:37 Retraining the Inner Critic01:03:18 Why Recognition Matters01:05:17 Final Reflections & Closing***Tired of feeling like you're never enough? They stole the lake once. The public took it back. Now the same fight is happening again, except the resource is not water. It is human creativity, labor, memory, code, books, art, and thought. This episode argues that the AI economy is being built from a public commons, then converted into private ownership before anyone names the theft. The legal answer may already exist: the public trust doctrine, the same doctrine behind Illinois Central Railroad v. Illinois, where the Supreme Court said some resources cannot be sold off to corporations because they are held for the people. This is not an anti-AI episode. It is an anti-enclosure episode. The question is not whether the machines work. The question is who owns what they make, who benefits from the wealth they generate, and whether the public gets cut out of the economy built from its own mind.

June 10, 2026: Palantir CEO Alex Karp is warning tech leaders that bragging about AI-driven layoffs is a major political mistake and could fuel backlash against the entire industry. Then I get into a new Reuters/Ipsos poll showing that 53% of Americans fear AI could put them or someone in their household out of work, which means AI job anxiety is no longer a fringe concern. Finally, I break down the "great flattening," with new data showing that 41% of employees say their companies trimmed management layers last year, and why eliminating too much middle management could create a serious leadership pipeline problem for the future.

Send us Fan MailOne unexpected phone call can change everything.Sarah White thought she had stability as a restaurant partner. Then she learned her partners had voted without her, planned to sell the business, and were eliminating her role. Instead of scrambling to find her next job, Sarah made a bold mid-career move. She bought them out and took ownership of Westover Taco in Arlington, Virginia. In this episode of The Mid-Career GPS Podcast, I talk with Sarah about what career resilience really looks like when your professional life gets messy. Her story is not just about restaurant ownership. It is about confidence, relationships, decision-making, and building a plan before you need one.Sarah shares the behind-the-scenes reality of running a neighborhood restaurant in a challenging post-COVID economy, including rising food costs, staffing challenges, permits, zoning, licensing, tariffs, and changing wage rules. She also explains the misunderstood reality of tipped wages and how policy changes can affect service, retention, and the customer experience. We also explore how Westover Taco became a women's sports bar almost by accident. What started as Sarah's love of women's sports turned into something bigger: a community gathering place where fans knew the game would be on and where girls could see representation, possibility, and belonging. This conversation is a powerful reminder for mid-career professionals who feel stuck, blindsided, or unsure about their next move. You do not have to wait for disruption to start building your next chapter. In This Episode, You'll Learn:How Sarah responded after being pushed out of a restaurant partnershipWhy ownership became the right move to protect her staff and visionWhat mid-career professionals can learn from business uncertaintyHow relationships and networking helped Sarah move quicklyWhy being “people rich” can create more career optionsHow introverts can build stronger professional relationshipsWhy women's sports representation matters in business and communityHow to start building your career pivot plan before you need itKey TakeawayCareer resilience is not built in the crisis. It is built before the crisis happens. Whether you are navigating a job search, preparing for a promotion, or questioning what is next, your relationships, reputation, and readiness matter.Listen NowIf you have ever felt blindsided, stuck, or uncertain about your next career move, this episode will help you think differently about ownership, resilience, and building a network before you need one.Follow Sarah White on LinkedIn.Follow Westover Taco on Instagram.Support the showIf this episode resonated with you and you want more support in how you SHOW UP for your career and life, I want to invite you to join the SHOW UP Leadership Lab. This is my group membership program where you'll get the clarity and support you need to SHOW UP more impactfully and effectively in your life and career. Visit https://johnneral.com/showup to join. Please leave a rating and review on Apple Podcasts here.Connect with John on LinkedIn here.Get John's New Mid-Career Journal on Amazon here.  Follow John on Instagram @johnneralcoaching.
