11/30/2025 - John 1:1-18 - First Things First - The Incarnation by Richard Schwartz
First Things First – Week 2: “Why Should I Tithe?” Mark 10:17–27Money is one of the clearest windows into the human heart. In Week 2 of First Things First, Pastor Kevin teaches on one of the most foundational practices in Scripture: the tithe.Through the story of the rich young ruler, Jeremiah's warning about our hearts, and Malachi's call to return to God, we learn that tithing isn't about losing money—it's about ordering our lives around trust. The tithe brings our finances under God's leadership, breaks the power of fear and self-reliance, and opens us to the freedom of living in God's design. This message helps us understand why the tithe matters, what Scripture actually teaches, and how putting God first transforms more than our giving—it transforms us.Tithing is not about what God wants from you. It's about what God wants for you.Broad River Church | Norwalk, CT Join us Sundays: 9:00 AM & 11:00 AM (English) | 12:45 PM (Español) Learn more or take your next step: https://broadriver.church/nextsteps Follow us on Instagram: @iambroadriverchurch

The Generous Heart - Part 4First Things First | Deuteronomy 14:22-29Key Question: What can we learn from the Old Testament teaching about the tithe?1. Tithing supported the leadership and activity of the Temple2. Tithing provided for widows, fatherless, and foreigners3. Tithing acknowledged God as the owner of all things4. Tithing leads God's people into God's blessing5. Tithing was a set amount - New Covenant giving amounts are less exact6. Tithing was a law-based requirement - New Covenant giving is a heart-level desire

Haggai 1:1-7 (NIV) A Call to Build the House of the Lord1 In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jozadak,[a] the high priest: 2 This is what the Lord Almighty says: “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord's house.'” 3 Then the word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai: 4 “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?” 5 Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. 6 You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” 7 This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways.

On the agenda was the topic of keeping first things first and Helton's approach to faith, family, fitness and firefighting. We discuss how important a strong base is for doing this job and doing it well for a long time. We dive into what legacy means and what it really is. Could you list your top 3 priorities?Yep, me too. But how about when we try to actually live them?In this episode of Live the Bible, we see that the Bible is not just a Sunday textbook. And during the week, it's not just devotional material to go with our morning coffee. No, the Bible is for our lives—and it directs our priorities. The problem of living our priorities is not a new one. The Prophet Haggai was dealing with the problem a long time ago. The people then are much like us. The solution still works.Support the show
