The Backline - An Improv Podcast is an incredible resource for anyone who loves improv. I had the pleasure of having Adam as a sub at 2nd City and was blown away by his innovative ideas and precise analysis of scenes. His feedback was always thoughtful and his exercises pushed us to break the rules in order to create amazing scenes. After class, I approached him to learn more about how he honed his analytical skills, and he mentioned that he co-hosts a podcast with Rob that focuses on learning improv. I have been binge-listening to the episodes ever since, and it has truly been the best resource for improv enthusiasts like myself. With 7 years of experience in improv, I can confidently say that Adam and Rob are the best teachers, and I am grateful for their dedication to this podcast.
One of the best aspects of The Backline is its guests. They bring actual details from professional improvisers' experiences, which adds a level of authenticity to their discussions. The hosts also maintain a positive and genuine approach throughout each episode, making it both entertaining and informative. Additionally, they stay focused on the topic at hand, unlike many other improv-themed podcasts that tend to go off-topic frequently.
On the downside, it can be challenging to differentiate between Adam's voice and Rob's voice since they sound similar. However, considering their collective wisdom as one unified "Wise Coach," this minor inconvenience does not detract from the valuable insights they provide. It is also worth mentioning that while Adam receives most of the praise in this review for his teaching abilities, Rob's contribution should not be overlooked. In fact, I look forward to reading Rob's book based on how much I have enjoyed listening to him on the podcast.
In conclusion, The Backline - An Improv Podcast is an exceptional resource for improvisers looking to take their skills to the next level. The hosts' extensive knowledge about improv combined with their genuine passion for the art form make each episode a joy to listen to. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned improviser, this podcast will provide you with actionable tips and techniques that can be applied in your next show. The Backline is undoubtedly the go-to podcast for anyone serious about learning and improving their improv skills.
