We're all improvising through life. But we often second guess our choices. Improv doesn't let you do that. What if you trusted your instinct, picked a path, and just ran with it? Today, I sat down with Gabriel and Seth—two friends from my improv class—to learn how life and improv go hand in hand. In the simplest of terms, improv is acting without a script. But it's so much more. Improv can also help you get out of your own head to finally do the thing. Are you ready to let down your guard in a safe place where everyone is on an equal playing field? Here's why Gabriel and Seth believe improv is for everyone. Keep the conversation going! Come hang out with Gabriel and Seth at Finest City Improv in San Diego. Follow @jauquestrappe on Instagram to stay connected with Gabriel. And check out his podcast, The Third Seat.
Divorce turns your world upside-down. Even things that were once comfortable and familiar become strange and foreign. What if you took a step forward and found pleasure in exploring the unknown? I got to sit down with Erica Clermont—improv teacher at Finest City Improv—to learn how she empowered herself after her divorce. Growing up, Erica was no stranger to the theater, having acted since she was four. But when her marriage ended, she returned to the stage for a different reason—to rediscover herself. Would improv help her overcome fear and unleash newfound confidence and joy? Here's why Erica believes improv can change the world and how we react to the people around us. Want to connect with Erica? Follow @superhappygirl on Instagram, or check out finestcityimprov.com to learn more about her improv coaching.

Do you say yes more than you say no? I've always been pretty good at finding the silver lining when life throws challenges my way, but taking improv classes at FCI in 2018 radically changed the way I live my life, do business, and show up for myself and our community. The power of "yes, and" has redefined how I brainstorm, how I show up in my marriage, and is the reason you've seen everything you've seen from us here at Hiking My Feelings. Following this concept and listening to the cues from the world around us has empowered us to be more creative, to dream bigger, and make a substantial impact. Join us tonight to hear from Amy Lisewski, owner of Finest City Improv, author, and all around Empowered Funny Woman. She'll be sharing some stories from her girl scout days and we are gonna see if we can create the world we want to live in LIVE around the campfire tonight with the power of "yes, and!" Then we bring in Michelle LeRoy, one of my BFF's and another incredibly funny woman. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/hikingmyfeelings/support

Episode Notes S2:E4 – FACE SITTING, FOOD COURT EPIPHANIES AND BANG ON!: CARLA AND DELIA DISCUSS THE ETHICAL SLUT The girls herald in the New Year by touching base on their dating exploits. Carla’s dating exploits take her to God’s Country and matches all of Texas on the app Bumble. Delia decides that 2020 is the year of face sitting while advising men that it would behoove them to work on their transitions from, “What’s your favorite color?’ to “Come over and sit on my face.”The gal pals dish on their New Year’s Intentions/Resolutions, words for the year ahead and focusing on what brings them joy. And a lot of sex. Carla, while absolute shit at dating challenges, does enjoy herself some soup (yes it’s a euphemism), updates us on her San Francisco Treat and a blast from the past that has Delia saying, Uh no… that’s too late. Delia and Carla share their difference of opinion on Costco and Carla shares her epiphany that transpired at the food court, over the hot dog and soda combo. Delia updates us on her tindering, being ghosted and a tinder fellow suspects her of catfishing. The girls decide that 2020 is the year they don’t force a damn thing. Carla shares a friendship parable for modern times including a healthy dose of karma. The girls dive into this week’s book The Ethical Slut: A Guide to Infinite Sexual Possibilities. What Delia loves about the book is that it gives the reader permission to explore their sexuality, have sex outside of the confines of a relationship and to start taking proud ownership of the word slut. The girls touch base on the definition of Slut and the descriptors uncomplimentary af. The book is conversational, not clinical, it does it’s level-headed best to be informative about what ethical slutdom entails. The book demystifies being polyamourous, while the ladies have more questions than answers.Delia takes issue with the term undiscerning… her vagina after all is not a clown car, there is room enough for exactly one circus cock. The girls chat about the downside of polyamory, primarily jealousy and how to handle it. Open and transparent communication is the name of the game. Delia gets a little sidetracked by other publications by Greenery Press and she is curious about vaginal fisting. The question arises, Submissive or Dominant? And how important open conversations are when it comes to trying new things and sexploration. Delia’s final piece of advice? If you have questions, pick up the book! There is a tribe out there that you can be a part of. Be open minded and try new things but know your boundaries. Carla looks up the Amazon reviews and has a Freudian slip. Delia decides the term “serious relationship” is fucking awful and they touch on both the five star and one star reviews of the book. And one thing is for certain, choose your choice and hopefully that is choice is on the road to happiness. Delia recommends the book to those going through transitions and Carla reveals that in her 20s she would have been super judgy about this book but now sees the immense value in the contents. The girls chat about Delia’s hiatus for the month of January and the exciting guest hosts coming to the program, Please welcome Dr. Jen, Nathan Young and Jerry Burkey in the month of January!Carla and Delia are not licensed professionals. They recommend books for entertainment value and talk openly about their foibles and follies in order to let others know they are not alone.Happy New Year! Episode Notes This week your illustrious hosts Carla and Delia kick off the episode by discussing career transitions (Congrats Carla! And if anyone needs to buy or sell some property, holler at your girl!) and Delia who is googly eyed about this week’s book (and the ENTIRE freaking title), “He’s Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys *The Newly Expanded Edition” by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo. After going through the correct pronunciation of the author’s names, Delia imparts that ‘twer she the Captain of The World this book would be mandatory reading. The book touches on the pitfalls of dating and step by step goes through the excuses that men offer as to why they aren’t calling or making plans and bottom line, they just aren’t that into you.As an easy read with a conversational writing style it hit a chord prior books have not. The tone is that of a protective brother or close male friend. And while the info is good (albeit dated, like the answering machine on the cover) the exercises were a little too tongue in cheek and not for anyone seeking a deep examination of their behavior. Delia touches on examining the importance of what one feels they deserve. Spoiler alert, it’s a better plan than a text at 9pm asking what she’s up to for the evening. Carla shares that the way to her heart is a plan. And not the 9pm text variety. The ladies get into some of the common excuses given by dudes including the busy myth. (And a host of others) At the end of the day, if guys want to pursue, they will pursue. The girls talk about the lure of unavailable men with the exception of the subset of polyamory. Carla and Delia agree, it’s just not their flavor. Your hosts get real about the willful ignoring of excuses/warning signs and getting caught up in relationship potential.Carla shares a story about a friend who calls bullshit on this book and how it almost destroyed his relationship with his now husband. Proving that there is exceptions to every rule. Sometimes he is that into you but he’s also worked a double shift and is fucking tired.Mentioned in the episode: “He’s Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys *The Newly Expanded Edition” by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo (Copyright © 2004, 2006 by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, Published by: Gallery Books, A Division of Simon & Schuster, Inc. Episode Notes S1:E5 – AND THE BITCHES HAVE IT: CARLA AND DELIA REVIEW – WHY MEN LOVE BITCHESThe ladies are back! Carla and Delia discuss Delia’s dating tally (she’s up to 5ish) and considering purchasing jock jams to get pumped for dating! Carla discusses a gentleman caller whom she’s been messaging and the high stakes game of complimentary musical tastes. The girls then plan out their breath to dive into this week’s book, “Why Men Love Bitches: From Doormat to Dreamgirl- A Woman’s Guide to Holding Her Own in a Relationship” by Sherry Argov.Carla and Delia discover the importance of defining terms, what a ‘bitch’ truly is and why we’re leaning into the moniker. Why men love confident, self-possessed, independent women wouldn’t sell as many copies. Bitches be branding. The ladies discuss the book’s chapters but also the 100 Attraction Principles. We discover that Carla is vocal in the boudoir, which is in line with her authentic self. (Attraction Principle #28) While Delia is guilty of the cardinal sin of giving too much up of herself. (Attraction Principle #43 and 44 respectively) Carla and Delia touch on exterior validation, the importance of buying your own damn flowers, being alone (Yes, completely alone so please bring the chips and salsa already!) and why unavailability is such a turn on.Carla and Delia discuss the lost art of banter and why it is so important, the ‘nice’ debate, the importance of financial stability (Attraction Principle #82) and the need to have a plan for a date (Attraction Principle #91). Delia wonders out loud why she has never been one of the thousands interviewed for a relationship book and Carla ponders if dudes are just sitting at home waiting for us to call. Maybe, because these bitches have their own fabulous life! (flags down waitress to order guac… totally alone.)A quick poll: Listeners, do you prefer someone who plans a date or do you prefer spontaneity? Story Time changes up its format a little bit, as Mike invites the improv team Pick and Roll (Keith James and Marcus Olszowy) to do some improvised scenes with him. Recorded live at Finest City Improv in San Diego, enjoy Story Time with Mike Schramm!
Things get a little nuts on this second episode of Story Time, where Mike tries to tell his story again, but is again interrupted by first, a GOP strategist who's a little confused, and then by the most dangerous creature to ever appear on the podcast yet. This podcast was recorded live at Finest City Improv in San Diego (which explains the rough audio -- sorry about that), where it completely cleared the house of confused audience members. Regardless, we had fun, though we may not do any more live shows in the future. Enjoy!
This is the first episode of Story Time with Mike Schramm! Just like every episode, it features Mike Schramm telling a story from his life, though this time he was unexpected interrupted by a radio magnate and sea captain (and poet), as well as an industrious and hard working young lady. Listen to their conversation live from the Finest City Improv in San Diego even as the walls fall down around them! Thanks for listening!
