In a world where we're constantly bombarded with information, it's easy to get caught up in the noise and lose sight of what's truly important. This episode explores the impact of social media on our attention spans and the consequences of our addiction to short-form video content. The speaker shares a personal anecdote about Dolly Parton, the legendary musician, and how her refusal to take a side or accept a prestigious award speaks to a larger point about staying true to oneself. We also delve into the world of social media research, where studies show that our attention spans are decreasing, and our brains are rewiring themselves to crave constant stimulation. But is this a moral panic, or is there something more to it?The conversation touches on the design of social media platforms, which are engineered to keep us engaged, and the consequences of our addiction, including weaker memory, impulse control, and stress. We also hear from experts who argue that correlation is not causation, and that we can't blame social media for our attention span issues. However, the speaker makes a compelling case for why we should be concerned about the impact of social media on our brains. If you're feeling like you're losing yourself in the digital noise, this episode is a must-listen. Join us as we explore the complexities of social media, attention spans, and what it means to be human in the digital age.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Short-Form Content for Ocean Awareness: What Actually Works

Speak Up For The Ocean Blue

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 10, 2026 21:37

This week on the How to Protect the Ocean podcast, Andrew kicks off a science communication series exploring how ocean advocates can spread awareness across every major content format. Today's episode digs into short-form video: TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, and what it actually takes to make original content work when you're used to talking for an hour, not ninety seconds. Andrew is candid about his own struggle with the format, since most of his short-form output today is repurposed podcast clips rather than content built for the platform from the ground up. The conversation covers what separates a scroll-stopping short from one that gets skipped: a hook in the first one to three seconds, one idea per video, native casual style over polished production, readable captions, and consistency over perfection. Andrew points to Christian Parton's Shark Bites and KPassionate as creators doing this well across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Twitch, and explains how the algorithm on platforms like TikTok now prioritizes watch time and virality over follower count, meaning a single video from a small account can outperform everything else in a creator's catalog. The episode closes with a candid look at monetization: what TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels actually pay per view [VERIFY figures before publishing], why the real money in short-form tends to come from brand sponsorships, affiliate codes, and funneling viewers to a long-form platform or Patreon-style support, and why short-form works best as an entry point rather than a destination. This is the first episode in a week-long arc on science communication formats, building toward Friday's interview with Amy Weldon of Blue Collar White Coat. Takeaways Short-form content needs a hook in the first one to three seconds or the algorithm moves on Stick to one idea per video, delivered in one to three minutes Native, casual, direct-to-camera style tends to outperform overly produced content Captions matter because most viewers watch with the sound off The algorithm rewards watch time and virality over follower count, so small accounts can go viral Consistency over perfection is what builds a following over time Short-form monetization pay rates are modest [VERIFY]; real income tends to come from sponsorships, affiliates, and funneling to long-form or Patreon-style support Short-form is best used as an entry point into a creator's larger body of work, not the destination Support Independent Podcasts: https://www.speakupforblue.com/patreon Need help with your ocean non-profit, company, or project? Sport's best content doesn't happen by accident.Behind every viral clip, every campaign that cuts through, every piece of creative work that moves the needle commercially, there's a person, a team, and a strategy. But rarely does that person, team or strategy get the recognition or coverage they deserve.SportsPro and Greenfly's recently launched Short-Form Showcase is designed to fill that void by amplifying the talent and teams behind the best short-form content being produced across the global sports industry.Unveiled in July, the Showcase recognises the human craft, creativity and collective effort that goes into creating content that stops the scroll and delivers commercial impact by celebrating the people who make it happen. This is not a ranking or an award – it's a curated exhibition of best-in-class operators and a collection of their most memorable work.On this episode, SportsPro's Michael Long is joined by Greenfly's Gabby Vidal Castillo and Melissa Lawton, SailGP's chief content officer and one of the 39 specialists named in the Showcase, to discuss the value and important of exceptional content operators, how strategy and insight guide the creative process, and where social-first sports content is heading next.To view the full Short-Form Showcase, visit Home - SportsPro x Greenfly - Short-Form Showcase

Did the rot set in with television, with YouTube or with TikTok? Is short-form video a symptom or a cause of our shrinking attention spans? What does it mean to have a TikTok prime minister? Daniel Priestley: Your Biggest Marketing Mistake Is Talking To Too Many People | Oversubscribed Author InterviewMost business owners are still chasing reach: the biggest audience, the most views, the widest net possible. Daniel Priestley says that instinct now works against you, because the platforms have quietly rewired themselves to reward relevance over reach. In this episode of the ActionCOACH Business Growth Podcast, Daniel explains why fewer, relevant views now beat mass reach.Daniel Priestley is an entrepreneur and bestselling author of Oversubscribed and Key Person of Influence, and one of the most repeat-booked guests on Diary of a CEO. He runs Vidinary, an AI content and teleprompter tool, and posted 154 pieces of content on Instagram in the last 30 days alone, part of a system that generated 12,000 warm leads for his businesses last month. His answer is a repeatable system he calls short form, long form, lead form, starting with getting clear on exactly who you're trying to reach. What You'll Learn:- The Semantic Era: Why LinkedIn's March algorithm change, and similar changes across every major platform, now reads your content instead of just counting likes.- ICP Over Location: Why pinning your business to a location builds an artificial ring fence competitors can exploit, and why an ideal customer persona scales better.- Intellectual Capital Beats Products: Why defining yourself by your story and ideas, not your products and services, stops you competing on price alone.- Personal Brand Over Business Brand: Why a personal brand outperforms a business brand roughly 20 to 1 on engagement.- The Confidence Formula: The 30 samples rule behind learning to drive, and why your first 30 pieces of content always feel terrible.- Short Form, Long Form, Lead Form: Daniel's daily posting system, from 60-second posts to 6-to-60-minute explainer videos to a lead-capturing form like a ScoreApp assessment.- The Everyday CTA: Why the real mistake isn't a weak call to action, it's posting with no call to action at all.f You Haven't Started: Write down your ideal customer persona and the one story that defines your expertise, then post a 60-second video about it today. If You're Already Posting: Move your call to action off short-form and onto long-form content, and build a proof, principles, process structure into your next explainer video. For Everyone: Reverse engineer your funnel. Start with your offer, decide what your lead form needs to ask, then work backwards to the explainer video and daily posts that lead people there.Whether you're just starting to post or you're already posting daily and struggling to turn it into leads, this episode gives you a system to follow. The Hundred, the ECB's short-form cricket series, is into its sixth season, but it's being billed as another 'season one'. Fresh from selling off majority stakes in the eight competing franchises, the ECB is ushering in a new era for its unique - and uniquely positioned - summer tournament. The sell-off process raised more than £500 million for English cricket's governing body, and brought about a devolution of operational and commercial control from the centre to the teams themselves. With new investors - predominantly from India and the US - this is a very different proposition behind the scenes than the one that started life as something of a novelty six years ago.

Andrew Huberman - Audio Biography
Biography Flash: Huberman Unfiltered - Protocols Peptides and the Private Life Behind the Science

Andrew Huberman - Audio Biography

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 25, 2026 3:55

Andrew Huberman Biography Flash a weekly Biography. In the past few days, Andrew Huberman's public story has revolved around a blend of high-profile media, ongoing business activity, and a few tantalizing hints to his fiercely guarded personal life, all of which continue to shape the long arc of his biography. The most biographically significant development is the continued impact of his marathon appearance on The Tim Ferriss Show, episode 876, titled “Dr. Andrew Huberman — Peptides, Performance, and Protocols.” Tim Ferriss and summary outlets like Shortform report that Huberman laid out detailed, protocol-level guidance on peptides, stress, and performance, emphasizing his core principle that “high morning cortisol, low evening cortisol” should anchor every health routine. This episode, released this week, is already being widely clipped and shared, reinforcing Huberman's position as a leading public architect of evidence-based health protocols and broadly expanding his influence into peptide and longevity culture. Closely tied to that is the ongoing circulation of his YouTube content, including recent episodes such as “Accelerate Learning & Increase Cognitive Capacity,” where he elaborates on new, hard, and social activities as the best evidence-backed tools for building cognitive capacity, a point echoed by neuroscience-focused accounts like BetterBrain on LinkedIn. These appearances and shares are consolidating his reputation not just as a sleep-and-focus guy, but as a broad systems thinker about brain optimization and learning. On the business and ecosystem front, Fortune reports that billionaire Bill Ackman's Pershing Square Foundation has purchased a massive Manhattan site to build the Ackman Oxman Institute for brain research. While Huberman is not named as a principal in the project, the institute's planned focus on rehab, longevity, and nutrition sits directly in his domain, and industry observers are already informally speculating that figures like Huberman could be drawn into advisory, collaborative, or visiting roles over time. That speculation remains unconfirmed; there is no verified reporting yet that Huberman is involved. Huberman's own platform continues to evolve: his Instagram reel inviting listeners to submit audio questions at HubermanLab.com/myquestion underscores his shift toward a more interactive, community-driven model, potentially influencing the future format of Huberman Lab episodes and deepening his relationship with a global audience. Meanwhile, a cluster of online commentary pieces, including Glam Fame Monitor and Harvest Church blogs, describe him as married to a partner in academia and explore his “quiet presence” of a wife or girlfriend. These posts rely on public records and limited disclosures but are not backed by major news outlets, so details of his relationship status and partner's identity should be treated as lightly sourced and partly speculative, consistent with his long-standing effort to keep his private life off the main stage. There are no widely reported major negative headlines, scandals, or career reversals about Huberman in the past 24 hours from primary news organizations; the current narrative is one of steady expansion of his protocols into mainstream performance and wellness culture, with growing entanglement between neuroscience, media, and high-end philanthropy. Thank you for listening, and be sure to subscribe so you never miss an update on Andrew Huberman, and search the term Biography Flash for more great biographies. Thanks for listening. In this episode of It's The Bottom Line that Matters, Jennifer R Glass and Patricia Reszetylo continue their series on The New Local: How Hyper Local Positioning Can Out-Perform National Marketing, this time focusing on short-form video and contests as practical tools for local business growth. The conversation starts with short-form video and why it can be so useful for local businesses that want more visibility without needing a national-scale campaign or a massive production budget. Jennifer and Patricia talk about the value of showing what is already happening inside the business, including behind-the-scenes moments, product arrivals, team activity, customer-facing experiences, and the small details that help people feel more connected to the business before they ever walk through the door. They also discuss how short-form video can support a Google Business Profile, which is often one of the first places a potential customer sees a local business. Posting photos and videos there can help make the business feel active, current, and worth paying attention to. Rather than treating video as something that only belongs on TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, or Instagram, this episode looks at video as a practical visibility asset that can be used wherever local prospects are already looking.Jennifer and Patricia also get into the importance of authenticity. Local business video does not have to be perfectly polished to work. In many cases, the more useful and believable content comes from real moments: a product being opened, a chef preparing something interesting, a team member explaining a process, or a business owner documenting part of the company's story. Planned content still matters, but so does capturing the moments that make a business distinctive. The episode then shifts into contests and how they can be used to create participation, referrals, and local buzz. Jennifer and Patricia discuss why a contest needs to be relevant to the business and interesting to the people the business wants to attract. A generic giveaway may get attention for a moment, but a well-designed contest can create more meaningful engagement, especially when it connects to other local businesses, encourages people to participate in the community, or gives customers a reason to talk about the business with others. From behind-the-scenes video and Google Business Profile updates to partnership-driven contests and scavenger-hunt-style promotions, this episode gives local business owners practical ideas for becoming more visible, more memorable, and more engaging in their own market.Topics covered include: local marketing, hyper-local marketing, hyper local positioning, short-form video, video marketing, local business marketing, small business marketing, contests, business contests, social media marketing, Google Business Profile, local SEO, behind-the-scenes video, business storytelling, customer engagement, small business growth, local visibility, community marketing, restaurant marketing, content marketing, video content, social media contests, business differentiation, customer attraction, brand awareness, local business promotion, referral marketing, authentic marketing, organic content, business visibility, Fathom AI NotetakerAbout your hosts: Jennifer R Glass is the lead host of It's The Bottom Line that Matters. In this episode, she brings a practical marketing perspective to local business growth, especially around Google Business Profile visibility, short-form video, contests, and ways businesses can create more engagement through useful, relevant marketing.Patricia Reszetylo is a recurring host of It's The Bottom Line that Matters. In this episode, she shares ideas from her own business-building experience, including how behind-the-scenes video, authentic content, unique local stories, and creative contest structures can help a business stand out in its own market.

If the thought of recording a video makes your heart race, you're not alone. I remember being terrified of showing up on camera. I overthought every word, worried about how I looked, and questioned whether anyone would even watch. But here's what I learned: The clients you're meant to help are on the other side of that fear. And in 2026, video is no longer optional. We're living in a time where trust matters more than ever. People have been over-marketed to, over-promised to, and overwhelmed by content. They want to know who they're learning from. They want to hear your voice, understand your perspective, and feel connected to the person behind the message. In this episode, I'm breaking down why video has become one of the biggest non-negotiables for coaches, how to overcome camera fear, the difference between short-form and long-form content, and the five videos every coach should have in their business. Because your future clients are watching. The question is: are you showing up?   In This Episode, We Cover: • Why video is non-negotiable in 2026 • How to overcome the fear of being on camera • The impact of the current "trust recession" • Why AI makes authentic video content more important than ever • The difference between short-form and long-form video • How webinars help convert viewers into clients • The five essential videos every coach should create • How to repurpose one video into multiple pieces of content • Why consistency matters more than perfection • Simple steps to start showing up on video today   A Message I Want You to Hear You do not need perfect lighting. You do not need the perfect script. You do not need the perfect camera. You need to start. Because confidence doesn't come before action. Confidence comes from taking action over and over again. Your future clients aren't waiting for a polished version of you someday. They're waiting for you right now.   Why Video Is Non-Negotiable in 2026 We are living in what many experts call a "trust recession." People understand marketing. They know what funnels are. They know when they're being sold to. And with AI making content creation easier than ever, people are craving something real. They want to see the person behind the content. Video creates trust faster than almost any other format because people can hear your voice, experience your energy, and connect with your message.   How to Get Over Camera Fear Every coach feels awkward at first. The key is not waiting for the fear to disappear. It's taking action anyway. A few simple tips: • Record and post before overanalyzing • Focus on serving instead of performing • Imagine talking to one ideal client • Use notes or slides if they help you stay focused • Remember that nobody starts as an expert on camera The more you show up, the easier it becomes.   Short-Form vs. Long-Form Video Both formats serve different purposes.   Short-Form Video Platforms include: • Instagram Reels • TikTok • YouTube Shorts Best for: • Quick tips • Myth busting • Mindset shifts • Visibility and reach These videos are typically one to three minutes long.   Long-Form Video Platforms include: • YouTube • Podcast videos • Webinar replays • Masterclasses Best for: • Building trust • Teaching your method • Demonstrating expertise • Converting viewers into clients Long-form content allows people to spend more time with you and understand your approach.   Why Webinars Convert So Well Webinars remain one of the highest-converting forms of video content. A strong webinar should: • Share your story • Teach something useful • Address the real problem your audience faces • Handle common objections • Include one clear call to action The goal isn't to overwhelm people with information. The goal is to help them understand why your solution works.   The 5 Videos Every Coach Needs 1. Your Origin Story Why do you do this work? What experiences led you here? This is the video that helps people connect with you emotionally. 2. Your Signature Talk Explain your unique framework, process, or philosophy. Focus on the transformation you help create—not the features of your program. 3. The Biggest Mistake Share the most common mistake your ideal client is making. Help them see what they can't currently see. 4. A Client Success Story Walk people through a real transformation. Show the challenges, breakthroughs, and outcomes. Stories build trust. 5. FAQ and Objection Buster Answer questions like: • Is this right for me? • How long does it take? • Why does this work? • What makes your approach different? This content can help sell for you 24/7.   One Video Can Create a Week of Content A single long-form video can become: • Reels • Social posts • Email newsletters • YouTube content • Podcast episodes • Blog posts Instead of constantly creating from scratch, one piece of content can fuel your entire marketing strategy.   Your Action Step This week, choose one of the five video types: • Origin Story • Signature Talk • Biggest Mistake • Client Success Story • FAQ Buster Record it. Don't wait for perfection. Post it. Then repurpose it into multiple pieces of content. Because the only way to become comfortable on video is to start using your voice.   Final Thoughts You have something worth saying. Your audience needs your message. And there is someone right now searching for the exact solution you provide. Don't hide behind more certifications. Don't spend six hours adjusting Canva templates. Don't wait until you feel ready. Show up. Press record. And trust that your voice matters.   Resources Are you a health coach in need of done-for-you content? Visit yourhealthcoachbiz.com and save 40% using code GO40. Broken Meeple Podcast 137 - Longform vs Shortform Content It's been a very emotionally draining couple of weeks for me. Stressful work, a hacked FB account, other personal stuff, lack of time, heatwaves, the UK Expo and lots of unnecessary abuse/pushback on Facebook making that platform seem less and less desirable for board game creator content. But we must push forward and even though I get to spill out my soul for camera in this episode, I still get to talk about my positive experience with SAIL and my not so positive experience with Veiled Fate............which got me a lot of abuse online for not liking it, seriously there are some fragile ego's out there. And some of those tests on our resolve have impacted some of my friends in the industry where I see them get pushback/abuse also. It's unjustified and one of the hot topics is shortform vs longform creation. We prepare longform content and there's reason for that, we are critical reviewers, not quickie overviews. We need the time. And yet apparently that gives the right to people to eviscerate my friends and myself for choosing longer content. Well I have some thoughts to say on the matter so strap in - this will require some restraint! *************************************** SUBSCRIBE ► www.youtube.com/channel/UCmjyHBcq…ub_confirmation=1 *************************************** Related Content Welcome To My Channel (Who I Am) ► youtu.be/kgznPr5F3HI Episode 135 - Golden Geek Awards ► https://youtu.be/HTGiav6wl00 Episode 136 - UKGE Review ► https://youtu.be/eA8Kuwc6mi0 *************************************** Who Am I?
