Big Shot Bob – Shoot Around Ep 136 – Evicted From Your Blanket Fort

Big Shot Bob Pod with Robert Horry

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 12, 2026 20:25

It's Friday, so you know what that means — Shoot Around is back. Robert Horry, Rob Jenner, and B-Dog run through everything that didn't make Tuesday's show, and this week that list is pretty loaded.   First up: the NBA's new 3-2-1 draft lottery. Quentin asked about it, and fair enough — they never got to it on the main show. Rob breaks down how it works (the lottery expands from 14 to 16 teams, and the three worst records in the league actually get their odds PULLED back), and Robert gives his honest reaction: he doesn't hate it, but he's not ready to fully buy in until he sees it play out. The Indiana Pacers situation this year is a perfect example of why this stuff gets complicated fast.   Then things get heavier. Brendon Sorsby — the Texas Tech quarterback who bet on his own games at Indiana — caught a two-game suspension and a $5 million deal. The guys go deep on what kind of message that sends across every roster in college football. Not just to stars, but to walk-ons and scholarship guys who know everything about their team and are getting nothing out of NIL. It's a messy situation and Robert and Rob don't hold back.   After that, a palate cleanser: Tom Brady launched a new coconut water brand, and the name is... Good Nut. B-Dog's face said it all. If you're listening and not watching, do yourself a favor and pull up the YouTube just for that reaction.   A listener question for Robert — what's the most unfortunate thing that ever happened to you in a game? The José Canseco ball-off-the-head moment from Joe Adell inspired this one. Robert's answer might surprise you. (Spoiler: his shorts have a starring role.)   And to close it out, the blanket fort world record. A Nevada high school student built a 14,000+ square foot fort in Las Vegas, which somehow leads to a full childhood memory throwback session. Sliding down hills on cardboard, building clubhouses in the woods, and getting evicted from your own blanket fort by your grandfather. All of it.   Topics covered this week: NBA 3-2-1 draft lottery breakdown — what changed and why Tanking debate: injuries, bad teams, and what actually counts as tanking Brendon Sorsby, $5M deals, and a two-game slap on the wrist Gambling in college sports — the double-edged sword nobody wants to admit Walk-ons, NIL gaps, and insider info as a ticking time bomb Tom Brady's coconut water brand, "Good Nut" B-Dog's priceless reaction and the best disapproving head shake on YouTube Robert Horry's most unfortunate moment on the court (and on TV) Blanket fort world record and childhood memory lane   Subscribe so you never miss a Shoot Around or a Tuesday episode of the Big Shot Bob Podcast. And if you're anything like me, this episode is going to help you understand why being relentless could actually be costing you… and when you need to be relentless. The key thing to understand is that being relentless starts costing you when you keep taking actions that are leading you nowhere, yet you continue doing them anyway, hoping for a different result. Why do we do this? Because we've been programmed to believe that these actions are moving us forward, when in reality they're just keeping us stuck in a loop.In today's episode, I'm going to walk you through how to make sure you're taking actions that actually move you forward — and exactly when you need to be relentless in order to achieve the success you know is meant for you.Connect with Manouk: Email: info@nouksgoddessacademy.comApply for a Free intuitive Analysis HereDive deeper inside the Free Goddess Academy Membership: https://portal.nouksgoddessacademy.com/MembershipWant to explore more of our programs?Visit: www.nouksgoddessacademy.comCome hang out with me!Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/manoukvinkRumble: https://rumble.com/user/Manoukvink

Marcus Aurelius Anderson sits down for a return visit with J. Jason Hicks — author, technologist, and storyteller — to dig into his new nonfiction book The War of Leadership: Hard Lessons and Practical Truths for Surviving In and Beyond Leadership. Drawing from 30 years in the corporate world, Jason unpacks the uncomfortable truths that no one tells new leaders: the manipulation, the blind spots, the politics, and the quiet treachery of organizational life. Marcus and Jason explore why awareness of dark leadership tactics doesn't make you a bad leader — it makes you a prepared one. They also cover the craft of writing, the role of AI in creative work, and why the human element in art, music, and literature will never be replaceable. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS The Dark Side of Leadership — 2:16 Jason reads the defining passage from the book: "You'll be misled. You will be asked to mislead..." — a raw, unflinching look at how leadership corrupts incrementally, and how good people get drawn into cycles they never intended to be part of. The Blame Game & Double-Edged Sword — 6:23 Marcus and Jason break down how leaders attack their predecessors while their own teams are quietly building a case against them. Leadership blind spots, self-preservation, and the vicious cycle of blame are all on the table. The Message in a Bottle — 12:05 Jason reveals who he really wrote this book for: the bright-eyed, naive young professional walking into the arena with no idea what's coming. This is the intel he wishes someone had given him early in his career. Agreeable and Wrong vs. Disagreeable and Right — 17:57 One of the most quotable moments of the episode: Jason drops the line "It's better to be agreeable and wrong than disagreeable and right — you'll be remembered for being disagreeable, not for being right." Marcus and Jason unpack the tactical wisdom of knowing when to push back and when to let the dust settle. Jason Hicks was born in Deerfield, Illinois, raised in New Berlin, Wisconsin, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh where he studied English literature, religions, and early Christianity. While attending a television screenwriting course, he won the department's screenwriting award for a Star Trek: The Next Generation script — then spent the next 30 years successfully avoiding writing while building a career in technology. Upon leaving that career, he returned to his first love and penned Ruin Waters: Bane Book One of the Annals of the Last Emissary, followed by the second book in the series, The Earth, My War. His debut nonfiction, The War of Leadership: Hard Lessons and Practical Truths for Surviving In and Beyond Leadership, draws directly from his three decades in the corporate world. The federal government is rapidly adopting artificial intelligence to enhance efficiency and security, but faces challenges including hidden costs from tech companies like Microsoft and Google, which offer AI tools at reduced prices that may lead to increased long-term expenses. Historical transitions, such as the shift to cloud computing, highlight similar issues with oversight programs like FedRAMP, which struggle with limited resources, potentially compromising security. The reliance on third-party assessors, paid by the companies they evaluate, introduces conflicts of interest, complicating the government's ability to ensure secure AI adoption. Addressing these challenges involves strengthening oversight programs, ensuring assessor independence, and evaluating long-term AI tool costs.Learn more on this news by visiting us at: https://greyjournal.net/news/ Hosted on Acast. The Turbulent World of Middle East Soccer

For the Gulf states, US President Donald Trump's potential deal to end the Iran war threatens to be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, Gulf states would welcome ending a conflict that has jeopardised their economic diversification and development plans, shattered perceptions of the Gulf as a wealthy island of stability that hosts global transportation and finance hubs and data centres, and has seriously damaged oil and gas installations that remain the backbone of their economies. It would also spare them from having to retaliate against Iran for its missile and drone attacks more aggressively. On the other hand, the Gulf states fear that whatever deal Mr. Trump may conclude will fail to remove Iran as an imminent threat.

Join us for this heartfelt episode of the Double Edged Sword podcast, where Father Genard gently addresses a common question during the sacred season of Great Lent: What if illness or medical reasons prevent me from fasting in the usual way?Drawing deeply from the wisdom of Saint John Chrysostom, this episode offers compassionate encouragement rooted in Scripture and the Church Fathers. Our Lord is meek, loving, and philanthropic—He never demands beyond our strength, as echoed in Matthew 11:28–30 and Hebrews 4:15. While genuine physical fasting remains a beautiful imitation of Christ's own forty days in the wilderness, it is never merely about an empty stomach.Saint John Chrysostom reminds us that true fasting transforms the whole person: abstaining not only from certain foods when able, but from sin, anger, envy, gossip, and worldly distractions. For those who cannot abstain from dairy, meat, or other foods due to health, the fast continues powerfully through richer almsgiving, fervent prayer, deeper reading of Holy Scripture, reconciliation with enemies, and letting go of resentment, bitterness, and hatred. This isn't a lowering of standards—it's an invitation to offer our entire selves to God, distancing from secular things and drawing nearer to Him in spirit. Even in weakness, we can fast with our eyes, hands, feet, mouth, ears, and heart—guarding against greed, evil actions, sinful sights, foul words, and harmful listening.Beloved in Christ, whether your fast is strict or adapted by necessity, let it be sincere, humble, and full of love. God sees the heart, and He honors every effort offered in faith.

While the report surveyed nearly a thousand CEOs, CIOs, and CISOs, Dino reveals a critical blind spot: industrial control systems and OT environments are being left dangerously exposed. They discuss how AI is becoming a double-edged sword for attackers and defenders, why supply chain vulnerabilities remain unaddressed, the shocking lack of cybersecurity skills on plant floors, and why most companies still aren't conducting incident response exercises. Dino shares real-world insights from working in nearly 2,000 plants over four decades, explaining why IT and OT remain disconnected, how remote access creates massive security gaps, and why outdated equipment with decades-old vulnerabilities sits unpatched in critical manufacturing environments. The conversation reveals that while enterprises focus on IT security, the plant floor—where revenue is actually generated—remains critically vulnerable, with potentially catastrophic consequences for businesses, supply chains, and even national GDP. Double Edged Sword ♱ Assyrian Church Podcast

In this powerful episode of the Double Edged Sword podcast, Father Genard shares essential Christian Lent fasting tips rooted in Scripture and Assyrian Church of the East canons, defining fasting as true abstinence (soma in Aramaic) from food and drink—exemplified by Jesus' 40-day fast, Adam's prohibition from the tree of knowledge, and Moses on Mount Sinai. He outlines three practical methods for offering your fast during Lent's required weeks (first, middle, and last): full-day abstinence until Vespers (sundown) with constant prayer and Scripture; abstinence until lunchtime, then soma-compliant meals (no dairy, poultry, or seafood, though honey is allowed); or full-day soma food without strict abstinence for those unable. Father Genard stresses that Lent fasting transcends food scrutiny—focus instead on examining sins like hatred, pride, gossip, immorality, and lust, while avoiding temptation triggers (especially porn and inappropriate social media) as desires intensify (James 1:14). Supported by church tradition (2 Thessalonians 2:15) and extreme calls to holiness (Matthew 18:8-9), he urges blocking evil influences, distancing from sinful relationships, countering Satan's lies with Scripture (Hebrews 12:2, Ezekiel 33:11), and combining faith with good works like prayer and fasting for spiritual victory and eternal life.Bible Verses Mentioned (Orthodox Study Bible / Common Orthodox Translation Phrasing):Genesis 2:17 — but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.Matthew 4:1-2 — Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.2 Thessalonians 2:15 — Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.James 1:14 — But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.Matthew 18:8-9 — If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire.Hebrews 12:2 — looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.Ezekiel 33:11 — Say to them: ‘As I live,' says the Lord GOD, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?'Psalm 37:1-2 — Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.2 Timothy 3:16-17 — All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.1 Timothy 3:15 — but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.Romans 6:21 — What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.2 Peter 3:10 — But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.Titus 2 (referenced generally for speaking things that are proper/sound doctrine and avoiding shameful things so no one despises you).

Tyson shares updates on his firm's growth, practical AI integration, and the challenges and opportunities AI brings to the legal industry.  Tyson shares his approach to AI and automation within his law firm and how others can integrate it into theirs. To get started with using AI, it is best to tackle the low hanging fruit tasks as ways to ease into it. This could be tasks like scheduling meetings for clients. If you can show your team where the improvements are in your systems, it is easier to get them on board to adopting an AI tool. From there, you can move on to larger and more complicated systems. There is a double-edged sword that AI brings that law firm owners need to realize. Although AI has increased productivity and accuracy for completing all sorts of tasks in the legal field, the problem arises where tools like ChatGPT are allowing clients to do some of the work that lawyers would normally charge for. One example for business law and estate planning is document drafting, which clients are using ChatGPT to do instead of paying a lawyer to do it. This is something lawyers need to think about when integrating AI into their practices. Think about what aspects of law could benefit from AI but will still bring you clients and make you money.Listen in to learn more!3:34 - Approach to AI & Automation8:34 - AI's Double-Edged Sword in Legal Industry14:33 - Performance Optimization & Mindset22:20 - Vendor Review Service26:16 - Maximum Lawyer Community OverviewConnect with Danny:Website  Linkedin X Youtube Tune in to today's episode and checkout the full show notes here.

Father Genard delivers a heartfelt call to true Lenten fasting in this powerful episode of Double Edged Sword. Drawing from Isaiah 58 and Christ's own wilderness fast, he reveals fasting as a divine gift and weapon—not mere abstinence, but a path to humility, repentance, and mercy.God rejects fasts filled with strife, pride, exploitation, or secret sin. Instead, He chooses the fast that looses bonds of wickedness, feeds the hungry, clothes the naked, forgives old wounds, and restores broken relationships.Beloved, this Lent let your fast be contrite and quiet: mourn your sins, bow in shame, rise in love. When offered rightly, your light will break forth like the dawn, and healing will spring up speedily (Isaiah 58:8).A gentle yet urgent encouragement for every Christian seeking to draw nearer to the Savior through prayer, fasting, and acts of compassion.

Summary In this conversation, Amas Tenumah and Bob Furniss discuss the implications of AI in quality assurance within contact centers. They explore the benefits of AI, such as increased coverage and trend spotting, while also addressing concerns about accuracy and the potential for AI to replace human interaction. The discussion emphasizes the importance of using AI to enhance human capabilities rather than eliminate them, and the need for effective coaching and data utilization to improve agent performance. Main Content: Understanding AI in Quality Assurance The podcast opens with a light-hearted discussion about the weather, but it quickly shifts focus to a pressing topic: the use of AI in quality assurance. Amas and Bob agree that deploying AI in this area can be beneficial, especially regarding monitoring agent performance. One of the primary advantages they mention is the ability to achieve 100% call coverage. Traditionally, QA teams may only review a small percentage of calls, leading to inaccurate assessments of agent performance. With AI, contact centers can analyze every call, providing a more accurate picture of quality and performance. Spotting Trends and Gaining Insights Another significant benefit of AI mentioned in the podcast is its capability to spot trends in customer interactions. Bob highlights the importance of understanding call spikes, such as the recent increase in calls related to a coupon offer. AI can analyze large data sets quickly, allowing managers to respond to customer needs more effectively. This capability not only improves the customer experience but also empowers managers to make informed decisions based on real-time data. The Risks of Relying Solely on AI While Amas and Bob are enthusiastic about the potential of AI, they also express concern over its limitations. One critical issue is the accuracy of AI assessments. Amas warns that AI systems are often trained on human data, which can lead to discrepancies in scoring calls. He emphasizes the need for a human touch in QA processes, suggesting that AI should assist rather than replace human judgment. Without human oversight, there's a risk that AI can misinterpret nuances in customer-agent interactions, leading to misguided conclusions. The Importance of Human Interaction The conversation takes a deeper turn as they discuss the nature of customer service as a human interaction. Bob argues that technology should enhance the capabilities of QA teams, not eliminate them. He points out that while AI can streamline processes, it cannot replicate the empathy and understanding that a human agent brings to a conversation. The hosts advocate for a balanced approach where AI tools are used to support agents rather than replace them, ensuring that customer experiences remain positive and personalized. Conclusion: In conclusion, while AI presents exciting opportunities for enhancing quality assurance in contact centers, it is essential to approach its implementation with caution. Amas and Bob remind us that technology should complement human skills and insights rather than undermine them. By finding the right balance, organizations can leverage AI to improve performance while maintaining the human touch that is vital in customer service.  Key Takeaways: 1. AI can enhance quality assurance by providing 100% call coverage and spotting trends in customer interactions. 2. The accuracy of AI assessments can be problematic; human oversight is crucial in the QA process. 3. Customer service is fundamentally a human interaction, and technology should support, not replace, human agents. Why This Episode Is a Must-Listen Ready to transform your relationship with money in 2026? "Master Your Money Mindset: Secrets to Financial Freedom" brings together a powerhouse panel from the fields of behavioral finance, financial therapy, and real-world investing. If you've ever felt that your money decisions are driven by emotion—fear, greed, or old family beliefs—this episode peels back the curtain on what's really happening behind the scenes. Whether you're a finance professional, an investor, or simply striving for personal financial stability, this episode provides you with practical systems and fresh insights that can help you sidestep costly mistakes and build lifelong wealth with confidence. The episode dives deep into the psychology of money, equipping you with actionable frameworks you can use today. Meet the Expert Panelists Brian Portnoy, Ph.D., CFA, is the founder of Shaping Wealth, a leading learning platform focused on the psychology of money and human-first financial guidance. A former hedge fund and mutual fund investor, he is the author of several bestselling books, including The Geometry of Wealth, that explore how to build a life of meaning, not just wealth. https://www.shapingwealth.com Saundra Davis MSFP, APFC®, FBS® is a US Navy veteran, financial coach, educator, and consultant, nationally recognized for her expertise in financial coaching, financial therapy, and addressing the racial wealth gap. She is the founder of Sage Financial Solutions (a training organization) and serves as the Director of Financial Planning Programs at Golden Gate University, where she develops and facilitates financial capability programs and coaching certifications to promote equitable access to high-quality financial guidance for all. https://www.sagefinancialsolutions.org Henrik Cronqvist is a leading behavioral finance scholar trained under Nobel Laureate Richard H. Thaler at the University of Chicago, whose research on how psychology shapes financial decision-making has been published in top journals including the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, and Journal of Finance. A former dean and vice dean, he now advises FinTech and EdTech ventures and is building the world's first Behavioral Finance AI Lab, bridging behavioral science, technology, and real-world impact. He is a Professor of Finance at Chapman University in Southern California. https://sites.google.com/site/henrikcronqvist Dr. Kristy Archuleta is a professor in the Financial Planning program at the University of Georgia, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Certified Financial Therapist™, specializing in the intersection of money, relationships, and well-being. A co-founder of the Financial Therapy Association and editor of leading academic journals, she is an award-winning researcher and co-author of Psychology in Practice: Financial Planning Essentials, bringing cutting-edge financial therapy insights to practitioners and the public alike. https://www.fcs.uga.edu Key Highlights 1. Self-Awareness is the Foundation of Financial Success Saundra Davis emphasizes that building systems and practicing self-compassion is more effective than relying on willpower alone. She notes, "We will not abuse ourselves into better financial behaviors," urging listeners to develop routines that regulate emotional triggers and cultivate deep compassion for themselves. 2. Automation Beats Emotion-Driven Decisions As Brian Portnoy points out, "Sometimes the best way to make a decision is to not make it at all." Delegating key financial decisions to automated systems—like retirement savings—removes guesswork and helps investors outsmart the biases that so often lead to costly mistakes. 3. Money Beliefs Are Shaped by Family and Community Systems Kristy Archuleta discusses how early experiences and family dynamics unconsciously drive our financial decisions. Becoming aware of these scripts—and compassionately rewriting them—empowers us to change lifelong patterns. 4. Technology Is a Double-Edged Sword for Modern Investors Henrik Cronqvist warns that while automation and account structure can help, technology also amplifies action bias and the temptation to gamble. "It's probably the most difficult time to stay rational," he observes, stressing the need for systems that shield us from emotional and herd-driven behaviors. Call-to-Action One thing to do this week. Think about one financial decision on your mind right now, big or small. Take two minutes and write down what emotion is attached to it, what story you're telling yourself about that decision, and one rule or pause you could add so future you doesn't have to rely on gut instinct alone. That short reflection can completely change how you make decisions going forward. Find the Inspired Money channel on YouTube or listen to Inspired Money in your favorite podcast player. In this episode, I reveal the reality that starting a podcast—just like starting something challenging, like football—comes with a few bruises. I share how, no matter what you do, you can't please everyone, and that's perfectly okay.I recount my own experience growing up, relating how being comfortable with myself, regardless of whether people liked me, set me up to handle audience feedback as a podcaster. I mention how, as a musician and fan, I observed that fans often love a band when they're small and scrappy but sometimes move on once the band becomes more polished and successful. I explain that podcasting is much the same: as your show grows and improves, you might lose some early fans but connect with new ones too.I tell the story of my friend, Jim Harold, who hosts the Paranormal Podcast. Despite working hard to improve his studio, add video, and upgrade his setup, some listeners complained it looked “too professional,” even though most of us strive to look and sound our best. I also mention the experiences of YouTubers Colin and Samir, who received harsh comments as their show became more successful.Handling FeedbackI reassure you that it's normal for people to not like changes—or even to just not like you and your show. The key is to remember your target audience; if constructive feedback comes from them and makes sense, it's worth considering. Otherwise, it's okay to ignore the noise.I discuss how feedback—from the right people—offers a huge opportunity to improve. But at the same time, any change you make (adding a co-host, new music, more episodes) will always please some and upset others. Most importantly, you've got to enjoy making your podcast, because if you don't, you'll likely burn out and quit. Thanks for joining me! The Evolutionary Tug-of-War - Inflammation's Double-Edged Sword "Environmental factors, particularly infections, have fundamentally shaped human evolution by selecting for protective inflammatory response mechanisms that enhance survival. This evolutionary pressure has created a core biological paradox: inflammation is indispensable for host defense, yet its dysregulation significantly heightens disease and mortality risk. This fundamental tension raises three fundamental questions about human aging and immunity: (1) How have selective pressures driven the evolution of mechanisms to balance inflammation's protective benefits against its harmful consequences? (2) Why does substantial variability in healthspan persist despite historically stable rates of aging? (3) Does evolutionary prioritization of reproductive fitness inherently limit longevity?" (Manoharan et. al. 2025) Let's talk about the fire inside us. Inflammation is our body's 911 system: lightning-fast, life-saving when a bug invades or a thorn rips skin. But leave that alarm blaring 24/7 and the fire torches the house. Evolution faced this paradox: crank the immune dial high enough to survive infection and childbirth, yet install brakes so we don't self-destruct by 40. Manoharan's team just mapped those brakes in 17,500 humans and called it immune resilience (IR) or the ability to fight hard, clean up fast, and stay cool afterward... and linguistic aging associations...
