Vic is in high spirits as he comes home, but he finds Rush in need of help. He isn't in serious trouble, but is afraid to admit to Vic about what it is. After some beating around the bush, and with the pressure on, Rush tells about his friends trying to cut his hair. he doesn't mind it being short, but it looks skraggly. Rush is also afraid of what Sade will say about it. Vic agrees to try to fix the haircut as Rush tells the list of people he went to to try to fix the botched job. Is there anything that can
As she sits on the Davenport, Sade comments on the chore that has Vic worrying at the library desk. He is going over his list of friends and acquaintences so he can figure out who to send a Christmas gift. It's not the folks who are closest to him that's the problem, but the long laundry list of those fringe acquaintences. People from the office, people from branch offices accross the country, distant lodge members, and people who have Sade wondering who in the world they are. If he can't cut down on the names on the list, can he at least spend a nominal
Sade comes home and is surprised to find Vic home instead of Rush. She is further surprised when Vic asks her to help with the work he brought home. It isn't his usual accounting work, but a special task. Vic was given the job to get a Christmas gift for the boss. His idea was to put up a suggestion box, ask employees to write three suggestions on a slip of paper, and collect the results. The top repeated gift ideas will be what he buys. Smart idea. As he and Sade go through the slips, they find some ideas good, others goofy, and a
Rush enters to tell Vic and Sade what he has been up to. He was hanging out at the soda fountain where Smelly Clark was treating everyone to Cherry phosphates. How could he afford them to be so generous? It's a windfall that has Rush thrilled, but his parents are less so. Rush tells how his buddy came across a barrel of cherry syrup for making the drinks, and sold it to the soda counter. His calculations as to how many free drinks that represents pushes Sade to the point of thinking Rush is being rude to her, but he's just trying to prove how
An important long distance phone call is to come in for Vic, but he's out of town on business. Rush takes down the note to advise Vic of the time and purpose of the expected phone call. It has to do with lodge business in initiating new members to the lodge. Robert and Slobert Hink are lodge brothers who place the extravagant call. While they wait, Rush and Sade talk about a few of the highlights of their day. Are the Hinks wealthy to be able to afford a long distance phone call? The Hinks keep thinking Rush is a girl named Ruthie, and want
Sade and Rush clean the attic. The more she tries to encourage Rush to get busy, the more he drags his feet, and looks for distractions. To make matters worse, Uncle Fletcher wants to pitch in and help, but his story telling only serves to distract Rush more. Try as she might, Sade can't manage to point him to other forms of helping out. The helpful uncle Fletcher won't be put off. Needless to say, Sade has met her match and just gives up. The attic will just have to wait for another day to be cleaned.
Audio is good, but cuts out in spots, and is a touch slow. Vic and Sade have a grown up conversation, but Rush is allowed to barge in, if he promises to keep secrets. It's about a Christmas present that Fred Stembottom is making. He wants to make a gross of gavels, but Sade tends to pronounce the word as, 'gravels.' Rush tries to correct her misuse of the word, but begins to get Vic confused, and Sade remains oblivious over it. Sade goes on in great detail about how the idea of making the gavels came to be, and why she thinks it's a
As Vic is on the porch swing, reading the newspaper, Sade enters to comment on the weather, and the aftermath of cleaning up after the evening meal. They notice their neighbor, an eccentric professor, also enjoying the evening on his porch swing. Sade tells about a fad going around, wives referring to their husbands by their job title. Sounds of distant thunder both threaten damp weather, and a promise of a cool breeze to take the heat off. Vic tries to tell a story about his boyhood, but Sade isn't finished telling about all the wives, and their pet names for their husbands. What didRead More →
Audio is good, but a touch slow. Sade finishes up with the dishes as Vic wraps up a phone call. Vic is elated because he has been asked to go on an inspection tour for work. Rush is fit to be screaming like a panther because Sade left him to finish the dishes on his own. She tells Vic about her Thimble club, and an event that clashes with his inspection trip. Not that the timing is wrong, but her thimble club has a special send off in mind. Though the idea is a quaint one, Vic is concerned that his big wig bosses won'tRead More →
Audio is a little weird, a touch slow, staticky, and tinny sounding. Rush and Sade sit on the front porch swing and talk about Mr Chinbunny. The young school principal has a unique, showy way of eating ice cream. Vic joins the family as they watch the antics Mr Chinbunny goes through as he enjoys his frozen treat. The topic slides into one involving a man named, Ishigan Fishigan from Shishigan Michigan. Vic turns the conversation to a business he learned of called the Parade Information Bureau. Why? Vic likes parades, and he wants to know more about them.Read More →
As Sade darns socks, Rush points out a Christmas card order book. Since Sade didn't bring it home, maybe Vic did? It seems like a simple thing to buy a few cards from his co-worker, but soon the competition, and pressure is on. Aunt Bess, and the landlord are each in the Christmas card business as well. Sade lists all the folks in the neighborhood who expect getting card sales, and Rush reads a few of the greetings in the card samples. What's a good neighbor to do? You just can't buy from everybody.Read More →

Vic works over writing an article for the upcoming lodge magazine. To boost his creative juices Rush reads a few lines from his 3rd Lt Stanley book, modifying them to fit the proposed article. Why won’t everybody just line up at the cemetary, and march through town like they always do? Vic may be taking his self importance a little too far, but he doesn’t see it that way. When the Mayor and others offer alternate measures, and call Vic by the wrong name, he see’sRead More →
In the living room of the small house halfway up the next block, Sade tells how she pulled some strings to get Vic a special ride to Chicago. It’s a business trip, and Vic would rather be relaxing with the rest of the passengers. Can his neighbor, Mr Donahue even let him ride in the cab legally? Would this scheme lower Vic to the status of being a hobo? Poor Vic, though Sade tried to saveRead More →

Vic, Sade, and Rush get ready to spend the evening of looking at the Razorscums photo album. An activity that the menfolk don’t particularly enjoy.
