Nikki Glaser kicks off the show with a birthday message for Rizz, which is probably the classiest thing that happens for the next 43 minutes. Because immediately after that, this comedy podcast gets back to the story everybody has questions about: the San Francisco 49ers owner getting busted in an alleged prostitution sting at a trailer park in East Palestine, Ohio.At 9:30 in the morning. On a Sunday. The crew tries to reverse-engineer exactly how somebody with hundreds of millions of dollars winds up in this situation. Was this the final stop of an all-night bender? Did he wake up Sunday morning ready to make terrible choices? How fast does an online prostitution appointment work? Apparently it's like checking into urgent care, except your insurance company has significantly more questions. That leads to an even more important investigation: how does a police department decide who goes undercover as the prostitute? Is getting picked flattering? Is not getting picked insulting? Somehow Miss Congeniality, ugly-character casting, Marla Hooch, Home Alone, Cry-Baby, Jonah Hill, Rebel Wilson and Johnny Depp all get dragged into the conversation. Then it's time to discuss the upcoming iPhone and whether spending around $1,200 on another rectangle that looks suspiciously like your current rectangle is still exciting. The show heads Back in the Day for anniversaries involving The Wizard of Oz, Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run, Boston's legendary debut album, Lauryn Hill, Aaliyah and more. Then Crap on Celebrities brings the pop-culture buffet nobody asked us to curate.ZZ Top plays its first show following the death of drummer Frank Beard, the crew attempts to demonstrate its vast knowledge of Quando Rondo, Ella Langley continues her monster chart run with “Choosing Texas,” and Miranda Lambert enters the conversation thanks to a songwriting story involving a kangaroo. Because sure. There's also a Wendy Williams documentary on the way, which naturally leads to revisiting her infamous Statue of Liberty fainting incident and several other moments from daytime television history. We get TV cancellations, Harry Potter casting talk, massive movie box-office numbers, and news that Paramount is developing a sequel to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. The Terminator 2 cast reunion also gets reviewed with all the tact and restraint you've come to expect from this comedy podcast. Edward Furlong gets some love, everybody realizes he was only 13 while filming the movie, and Rafe delivers the completely unnecessary observation that the reunion photo looks like “the future they were trying to prevent.”Then we meet celebrities who somehow function without smartphones. Christopher Walken doesn't have a cell phone or use email. Christopher Nolan prefers a landline. Elton John goes without a phone. Michael Cera uses an actual camera. Meanwhile, most of us get nervous if our battery drops below 30%.Birthdays follow, complete with Alexander Skarsgård, Jodi Messina, Claudia Schiffer, Tim Burton, Rob Halford, Gene Simmons, Tom Skerritt and a detour into the days when watching a really long movie required two VHS tapes. Children, ask your grandparents. And then Rafe's arm enters the chat. After roughly 30 weeks of allergy shots because he is apparently allergic to the entire planet, Rafe reveals that his weekly appointment came with a new threat: The Smelly Waiting Room Guy.This man's body odor was so aggressive that Rafe abandoned the waiting room and sat in the hallway despite being required to stick around after his shots. What follows is a full workplace-level investigation into human stink etiquette. When are you obligated to tell someone they smell? How does a manager have that conversation? Do you blame their shoes first? Can coworkers become “smell blind” to one another? What happens when you put perfume on top of funk and accidentally create an entirely new biological weapon? This comedy podcast finally reaches the conclusion society has apparently been afraid to admit: sometimes somebody just needs to tell you that you stink. No heroes. No lessons. Just onions.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Not all dangerous predators can be seen. One of the most dangerous predators in a drop of pond water is Amoeba proteus. This amoeba literally terrorizes its one-celled pond-mates, who can smell the amoeba coming to engulf them. Among the amoeba's favorite snacks are creatures of the genus Euplotes. But Euplotes can defend themselves. When some members of this genus smell the amoeba coming, they dart away to safety. Others can grow pikes to defend themselves. Some can even grow hard shells to protect themselves. This scenario leaves a problem for evolution. What benefit to a predator is there in warning its prey? Evolution should have selected against the amoeba's ability to produce its unique scent, called the A-factor. Now a new discovery has revealed the amoeba's scent is really a clever design, pointing to a Designer. These amoebas reproduce by splitting, so they are surrounded by clones. The A-factor is just strong enough to allow the proteus to identify clone-mates so that they don't eat each other, but not so strong that it prevents proteus from getting enough to eat.God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to save us from another unseen predator, the devil. The evil in the world is the warning scent of the devil's presence. God has placed many evidences within the creation that He is the Creator so that as our relatively few days on this earth flee by, we will be drawn to His Son, and, believing in Him, receive forgiveness and salvation from sin, death and the devil.Job 9:25-26"Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good. They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey.”Prayer: We thank You, dear Father, that in Your love, You sent Your Son to save me from sin, death and the devil. Amen.Ref: S. Milius, “Amoeba betrayed by anticannibal defense,” Science News. Image: Amoeba proteus, SmallRex, CC BY-SA 4.0, Wikimedia Commons. Nematodes are microscopic worms. They are everywhere. Up to 40,000 species have been described. There may be as many as one million discrete species. Some live independently, others are parasitic. Some impact humans, penetrating broken skin and finding their way to the stomach. Infection can be asymptomatic. But it may bring gastrointestinal pain, malnourishment, cognitive impairment, or death for people who are immunosuppressed. Elissa Hallem is investigating infection pathways including their attraction to smelly feet!
When you decide to grab a bite to eat, do you think about how to feed your gut microbes? Most of us don't. Even if we did, their only means of stating their preferences is somewhat after the fact. Do you end up feeling less than well? Perhaps the denizens of your gut aren't happy. In this episode, we consider how to support your microbiota and whether that can reduce the inflammation that seems to accompany modern life. At The People's Pharmacy, we strive to bring you up‑to‑date, rigorously researched insights and conversations about health, medicine, wellness and health policies and health systems. While these conversations intend to offer insight and perspective, the content is provided solely for informational and educational purposes. Please consult your healthcare provider before making any changes to your medical care or treatment. Feed Your Gut Right to Fight Inflammation Dr. Will Bulsiewicz is a gastroenterologist who urges all of us to focus on a healthful fiber-rich plant-strong diet to maintain our microbiome in good shape. He has described his own evolution from a busy medical student relying heavily on processed food products to a whole-food plant-based enthusiast. Eating a wide variety of plants is one of the easiest ways to make sure we are getting the nutrients our gut microbes need. Why are the trillions of microbes in our large intestine so important? Dr. Bulsiewicz (aka Dr. B.) shares the story of a patient who was overwhelmed by a serious C. diff infection. A course of clindamycin for a skin infection had decimated her normal microbiome and left an open field for C. diff to flourish. Instead of treating her with surgery and even more potent antibiotics, Dr. B. and his colleagues utilized a fecal transplant. She got poop from a healthy person into her colon and left the hospital a few days later in good health herself. What Is the Link Between the Microbiome and the Immune System? Inflammation is one of the primary signs that the immune system has gone into action to fight off a perceived foe. There is a close relationship between the gut microbes, the gut barrier and the cells of the immune system. Between 70 and 80 percent of immune system cells are present in the gut (Nutrients, March 9, 2021). There is just one layer of cells in the gut barrier, firmly attached to each other through tight junctions. If those tight junctions break down, pathogens and toxins can get from the gut into the bloodstream and activate the immune system into creating inflammation Medicines That Harm the Intestinal Barrier Diets that are high in salt have a negative impact on the integrity of the intestinal barrier (Nutrients, Nov. 25, 2025). In fact, a diet high in salt can reduce the number of Lactobacilli in the gut by 90%. This also affects the permeability of the gut barrier, which can contribute to auto-immune conditions. When we asked about inflammatory bowel disorders such as Crohn disease or ulcerative colitis, Dr. B. told us he thinks it's a mistake to classify them as auto-immune conditions. Instead, he suggests we should consider these conditions as due to the immune system rejecting the microbiome. Some of them might be initiated and perpetuated by failures in the gut barrier that allow certain organisms or their toxins into systemic circulation. A number of medications can also harm it, most notably the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Agents like ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib and meloxicam may disrupt the tight junctions that keep the intestinal barrier intact (Gastroenterology, Feb. 2018). In some cases, they may also upset the balance of microbes. Four Keys to an Anti-Inflammatory Diet There are several different dietary patterns that allow you to feed your gut and fight inflammation. Good evidence supports a DASH diet, a Mediterranean diet, pescatarian, flexitarian, vegetarian and some vegan diets. We asked Dr. B. to summarize the four features healthful eating patterns share. They include adequate fiber, plenty of polyphenols, healthy fat and fermented foods (think of sauerkraut or kimchi). Fiber and Flatulence One drawback of a high-fiber diet is that when microbes in the colon ferment the fiber we can't digest, they produce gases. It has to go somewhere, or it will cause sensations of cramping and bloating. Consequently, fiber is often associated with flatulence. Dr. B. suggests that there may be more gas, and it may be loud, but it shouldn't be stinky. Smelly farts are born of sulfur, which is more common in a diet containing garlic, onions, crucifers like broccoli or cabbage, fish, eggs or meat. Plant-Powered Plus We wondered what might be included in the “plus” category when you feed your gut and fight inflammation. Dr. B. offers a few things that you might not expect in a book about diet, but they are related to reducing inflammation. One is to go outside early in the day, every day, to get your circadian rhythm in sync. Another is to maintain your emotional connections with family and friends. Still another, just as important, is to nurture your spiritual core. This Week’s Guest Dr. Will Bulsiewicz describes how a plant-powered diet can fight inflammation Will Bulsiewicz, MD, is a New York Times bestselling author, award-winning gastroenterologist and internationally recognized health expert. Dr. Bulsiewicz directs the Gut & Microbiome Center for Excellence, a physician-led executive medicine and telemedicine practice based in Mount Pleasant, SC. Dr. Bulsiewicz is the author of several books, including his latest book, Plant Powered Plus: Activate the Power of Your Gut to Tame Inflammation and Reclaim Your Health. Listen to the Podcast The podcast of this program will be available Monday, August 17, 2026, after broadcast on Aug. 15. In this week's podcast, you get to peek into Dr. B's shopping cart. Are you buying the same vegetables he does? We also get insights on his favorite recipes for grains like farro. And we discuss the effect of coffee on the gut microbes. If you want to feed your gut to encourage certain microbes, remember that consistency is crucial. You can't eat a specific food once and expect it to make a difference. But consuming it several times a week will ultimately add up. We also discuss antidotes for flatulence, if you are interested in that. We all see toadstools and mushrooms and fungi in autumn and winter (and beyond). It was just six weeks ago that we trumpeted the amazing contestants for the “Fungus of the Year”. But gardeners, nature nerds, and kids often find these wonderfully weirdly shaped miniature soccer balls lying on the forest floor – white with light-brown slimy structures. Basket fungi are large spherical structures that carry the spores of the fungus: it's that brown smudgy stuff on the white, rubbery polygons. Those spores smell quite putrid (try them!) and attract all kinds of flies that lap up the moisture – it's probably full of proteins and nutrients! Spores stick to their feet, and as they land in the forest on some organic debris, the fungal spores are distributed – repeating the cycle. When you see a very juvenile version (they look like creamy-white eggs, sticking half out of the ground) just grab one and cut it open! It's remarkable how the basket fungus is totally compressed, ready to hatch inside that “egg”. Main points of the story… What can we learn from this fungus? They recycle stuff – there is no waste in nature. The various flies and other insects spread the spores throughout the forest – I reckon those brown/creamy patches attract those flies. If you have some patience, you can see the flies “licking” the yummy spores up before flying away to other parts of the forest floor. I remember my Jack Russell used to find the smelly deposit and licked it himself! Nature cooperates… everybody wins in the arrangement. Nature communicates with chemical clues – the smell of the spores attracts the vectors. Want to know how to economize on transport cost by reducing the size of packages? Have a look at the basket fungus! LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We start with our three things, including some devastating news — three wildland firefighters were killed battling fires on the Utah-Colorado border. We break down what happened, where the fires stand, and what it means heading into the Fourth of July. Speaking of the Fourth, Utah's fireworks fight is getting messy. Gov. Cox has restricted fireworks statewide through July 5, but cities are all over the map — Clinton is allowing them, Fruit Heights banned them, and Kaysville is still figuring it out. Tell us what YOUR city is doing. Plus, Pineview Reservoir is getting drained so Ogden can replace a leaky, decades-old pipeline — most of the water will be out by September 15.
