LLMLingua-2: Data Distillation for Efficient and Faithful Task-Agnostic Prompt Compression

This paper focuses on task-agnostic prompt compression for better generalizability and efficiency. Considering the redundancy in natural language, existing approaches compress prompts by removing tokens or lexical units according to their information entropy obtained from a causal language model such as LLaMa-7B. The challenge is that information entropy may be a suboptimal compression metric: (i) it only leverages unidirectional context and may fail to capture all essential information needed for prompt compression; (ii) it is not aligned with the prompt compression objective. To address these issues, we propose a data distillation procedure to derive knowledge from an LLM to compress prompts without losing crucial information, and meantime, introduce an extractive text compression dataset. We formulate prompt compression as a token classification problem to guarantee the faithfulness of the compressed prompt to the original one, and use a Transformer encoder as the base architecture to capture all essential information for prompt compression from the full bidirectional context. Our approach leads to lower latency by explicitly learning the compression objective with smaller models such as XLM-RoBERTa-large and mBERT. We evaluate our method on both in-domain and out-of-domain datasets, including MeetingBank, LongBench, ZeroScrolls, GSM8K, and BBH. Despite its small size, our model shows significant performance gains over strong baselines and demonstrates robust generalization ability across different LLMs. Additionally, our model is 3x-6x faster than existing prompt compression methods, while accelerating the end-to-end latency by 1.6x-2.9x with compression ratios of 2x-5x. 2024: Zhuoshi Pan, Qianhui Wu, Huiqiang Jiang, Menglin Xia, Xufang Luo, Jue Zhang, Qingwei Lin, Victor Rühle, Yuqing Yang, Chin-Yew Lin, H. What are the principles you use to navigate life's beauty and challenges? Are your principles written down, or are they seamlessly integrated into your subconscious where you know they're there, but haven't quite defined them yet?  I find it inspiring to learn about others' principles to help orient myself to the directions of my own soul's compass. I first learned about the Universal Principles by Arnold Patent and Victor R. Beasley from Paul Chek, my long-time friend and mentor. He recommended reading one principle each morning to inspire a thoughtful and productive day ahead. I find it especially effective to read these principles when I feel challenged with one of life's obstacles or stuck in a situation that is difficult to move through. I have noticed that one principle will inevitably “pop out” at me as a helpful tip for how to reframe my situation – an inspiration and reminder to tap into my inner power. How to Interpret Your White Blood Cell Count

There’s a common misconception that you need to run expensive advanced biomedical tests to fix your health. Over the years we’ve found just the opposite, that you can learn much of what you need to know from basic blood chemistry. Perhaps the best example is the information gained from a Complete Blood Count (CBC) with Differential. As the most common blood test, it is widely used to assess general health status, screen for disorders, and to evaluate nutritional status. On this podcast, NBT Scientific Director Megan Hall and I are talking about leukocytes, also known as white blood cells (WBCs), as critical elements of the CBC blood test. Megan discusses the various types of leukocytes and what it means when your count is outside the reference range. We talk about what leukocytes tell you about your nutritional status, why some people “never get sick” as well as signs you’ve got chronic inflammation or physiological stress. Megan also discusses how to use this information to determine the next steps in your health journey. Here’s the outline of this interview with Megan Hall: [00:01:04] Forum post: Chronically Low White Blood Cell Count. Get access when you support us on Patreon. Everyone is well-aware of how hard the restaurant industry has been hit from government-mandated COVID-19 restrictions. Bars have even more restrictions, and the nightclub segment has been impacted the most. Even if they have great food, clubs aren’t thought of a dining meccas, so offering carryout and delivery isn’t the financial crutch that it can be to restaurants. And limitations on capacity and social distancing requirements make it extremely difficult for these establishments to do what they do best - create experiences where people can get lost in the music and dance the night away in a sea of like-minded revelers. This is the first episode in our “Nightlife Under COVID” series where we’ll sit down with club owners, DJs, and promoters to better understand what they’ve been experiencing. Our guests today are Francoise Crokaert and Miguel Castro from one of Chicago’s newest nightclub - Le Nocturne. Their nightclub focuses on house music and all of its derivatives, paying homage to the city where house music began - Chicago.  They opened up one year ago and consistently pull in house legends and hot new DJs.  Their residency list includes Ron Carroll, Randall Dean, Paul Johnson, and Victor R.  Six months into their run, they, along with the rest of the industry and world, were punched by the COVID-19 pandemic and were forced to shut their doors for an extended period of time. Le Nocturne has done everything they could think of to use the downtime the best they can, from making physical improvements to the club to launching a successful streaming channel, Nocturne Chicago Live (“NCL”).  NCL features at least four live streams per week, all of which are available to watch and listen to afterward. “House Talk” is streamed Monday through Wednesday from 5:00 to 6:00 PM with host Ron Carrol where we get to hear and get to know the DJs. “Heat,” also hosted by Ron Carroll, is every Thursday night from 7:00 to 11:00 PM and features a rotating mix of up-and-coming and household name DJs.  Paul Johnson anchors the Saturday night stream.   Stay tuned for other episodes in this series where we’ll interview DJs and promoters to hear how the coronavirus pandemic has affected them personally and professionally. This episode featured: Francoise Crokaert, Owner, and Miguel Castro, General Manager, Le Nocturne 4810 N Broadway, Chicago, IL 60640 YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter Nocturne Chicago Live can be streamed on YouTube, Facebook Instagram, Mixcloud, and Periscope Joseph Sheahan, Cofounder & CEO, TappedIn and Host, What’s On Tap Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Apple Podcast, Spotify, LinkedIn A special thanks to Jayden Sheahan for his help with this episode!

The regimen also includes prescribed diets, nutritional supplements, and coffee enemas (seeQuestion 1). The Gonzalez regimen is based on the theory that pancreatic enzymes help the body get rid of toxins (harmful substances) that lead to cancer (see Question 3). A few studies have examined the effect of pancreatic enzymes in animals with implanted cancers, but it is not possible to test many other parts of the Gonzalez regimen this way. (see Question 5). In an early small study of Dr. Gonzalez's patients with advanced pancreatic cancer, he reported that patients on his regimen lived longer than most people with the same type of cancer (see Question 6). A later nonrandomized, controlled clinical trial compared the effectiveness of standard treatment with that of the Gonzalez regimen in patients whose pancreatic cancer could not be removed by surgery. Patients treated with standard chemotherapy survived an average of 14 months and patients treated with the Gonzalez regimen survived only an average of 4.3 months. In addition, patients treated with chemotherapy reported a better quality of life than those treated with the Gonzalez regimen (see Question 6).
