It's a time of change. The world is unfathomably different from what we imagined, we live in the new normal, and things may never be the same. At the same time, human beings are human beings. The more things change, the more things stay the same. Yet, one result of that is the change taking place in the lives of the Wilmorons! With Samuel getting married, Austin completing his masters and moving to Atlanta, and the myriad of life changes in the last year, we have decided this is the right time to bring the Wilmorons Podcast to a beautiful conclusion. It's been an incredible journey and we have learned so much from each other, our guests, and our audience. You've all been fantastic! We want you to know this is not the end of Samuel and Austin, as we will both be launching independence projects (occasionally including each other) in the very near future. Stay tuned for more info, and please enjoy our very special final episode. Welcome to Wilmorons.

Pardon the Interruption

Remember 2019? That was the last easy year. And it wasn't even easy. Our lives have been interrupted in what is likely the largest social disruption since World War II. But this time, instead of building weapons and the war machine, we wear N95's and stay 6 feet apart. Instead of worrying about the draft, we're worried about the infection. And the world is not taking it very well.As we come out of a long absence due to the busyness of early 2020 we now find ourselves in a different pace of life but somehow more worried, more harried. We spent the end of 2019 discussing mental and physical health, which in a big way has been compromised. The big question: what do we do now?

Why does the church always seem to have a beer belly? Ready for a change that goes beyond a New Year's Resolution?Join us as we sit down with Robin and Davie Ferraro for the next step in our series on Health and Wellness. Robin is the Coordinator of Health and Achievement and Davie "Crockett" is a Certified Personal Trainer at the Seminary fitness center. Together they compose the most powerful couple on campus (only a little kidding). This week we talk through eating and training right, and the way that the church has let most of us down when it comes to training and maintaining our bodies as well as our souls. Robin and Davie both share their stories and how they ended up training the muscles of future pastors and counselors at Asbury, while training in ministry themselves. Tired of neglecting your physical health or just need that punch to get started on taking care of your body? Give this one a listen.

Happy One Year Anniversary! The Wilmorons Podcast officially launched one year ago today. A lot has changed, and hopefully improved, over the last 12 months, so we wanted to drop in and give a short update. Here's our State of the Podcast Update. As we continue to grow and make content, our show's reach is expanding, as well! One part of growing is that we are welcoming some guests on to the show with a wide variety of views and opinions. Our goal is not to present one way of thinking, but to present the microcosm of Asbury as is. As a result, you may hear things on the show that do not necessarily represent the views or opinions of the hosts, but we'd like them to be able to speak without our interruption. We hope you'll take a listen to this short Update & Disclaimer and keep your podcast app of choice ready for the next episode, dropping in just a few days. Thanks for being a Wilmoron!

Dr. Russell Hall, Director of Training for Counseling and Pastoral Care at Asbury Seminary and licensed Psychologist in the state of Kentucky, joins us for a more informed, experienced discussion of the mental health world. What has changed over his multi-decade career in the field? What are the new discussions and what should we be discussing? Health can be pretty simple. Something going on with your body? You see a doctor. Something specific needing healing? See a specialist. But what do you do when there is something going in your mind? For centuries, the mind has been one of the most misunderstood and controversial aspects of human health. What is a mental disorder? Something spiritual? A physical ailment? Some sort of mix? Or none of the above? Join us this week in the first of two episodes where we explore the current conversation about mental health from the perspectives of theology and psychology, what this means for your community, and what it means for your brain.

The Earth is changing and, whether we are the reason or not, we need to talk about it. Because we all live here on this strange rock orbiting the sun, and we rely on it for everything. We may be the dominant species on planet earth, but we need it a lot more than it needs us. We bring you this episode from the shadow of Pike's Peak in Colorado Springs, Colorado. How do we discuss our planet's climate from a responsible theology, with well-informed science, and reasonable politics? We don't have all the answers, but we invite you to join us in figuring out the pieces.

Did Adam and Eve feed watermelons to Velociraptors? If some stars are 2 billion light years away, how can we see them if the universe was created 6000 years ago? Did one man and his family build a boat that saved every animal kind on earth, which all existed simultaneously? Join Samuel Hood, Austin Hunter, and special guest Benjamin Foss as we open up a window into the world of fundamentalist America via a tour through Ken Ham's Creation Museum. We discuss our own fundamentalist Christian backgrounds, how our views have evolved, and the way fundamentalism operates in modern America. It's a bit of a ride, we hope you have as much fun listening as we had experiencing what is going on in Petersburg Kentucky and its enormous testament to a certain way of viewing the universe.

Everyone has a personality, it's an unavoidable part of being human. But how do you know what yours is? In the last several decades, we have spent a whole lot of time trying to figure out how to discern, articulate, and label personality. However, for the most part, personality tests have been treated like horoscopes by the Christian community. Until a newcomer arrived on the cultural scene: The Enneagram. If you interact remotely with American or Christian culture you have heard about and likely assigned yourself a number on the Enneagram scale. It's inevitable. But now that it's out there, how do you use it? What does a responsible approach to Personality Theory look like? And how does the Enneagram fit into the scientific approach to Personality, if there even is one?
