Today we broadcast live from The California Science Center join us as we speak with tons of people about the process and work it takes to reach the moon.
On an Apollo 50th special we talk to a number of people about a single book, Arthur C Clarke’s 1986 book ‘July 20th 2019’ in which he imagines what life might be like on the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Recorded mostly at the Latitude Festival on said anniversary, with book in hand, Robin chats to Chris Lintott, Helen Czerski, Kevin Fong and Suzie Imber about their impressions of Clarke’s vision. Support the podcast at patreon.com/bookshambles to get extended editions of each and every episode. This week Patreon’s get an entire bonus guest, as Robin chats about the book with Hannah Critchlow.
Every week, Supercluster recaps the biggest stories from space exploration. This week: Our Chief of Content Robin Seemangal is joined by Supercluster contributor and launch expert Chris Gebhardt to discuss the 50th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 launch and moon landing. They discuss where the original surviving crew members stand on the debate between returning humans to the moon or going straight to Mars, India’s timely launch to land a rover on the lunar surface, and what SpaceX has been brewing up for their own crewed missions to deep space. Also on this edition of Last Week in Space, Elon Musk hosted the annual Hyperloop competition at SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California, where college engineering teams from around the world compete to build and test the fastest pod. Spaceflight photographer Tom Cross was on-location for Supercluster and you can check out his photos below.

On July 20, 1969, humans took their first steps on the Moon. In this episode streamed on July 18, 2019, we talk about this historic achievement and our future plans to go to the Moon and on to Mars.
Just in time for the 50th Anniversary of the Lunar Landing, we bring you some Air Force space history from the lab! In this episode of Lab Life, Air Force Research Laboratory historian Kevin Rusnak helps separate fact from fiction as he explains all of the behind-the-scenes work the Air Force did to help get man on the moon. To learn more about the Air Force Research Laboratory, visit www.afresearchlab.com or follow us on social media at @AFresearchlab.
