Su actividad investigadora, de carácter multidisciplinar, se complementa con su pertenencia al Instituto Universitario de Neurociencia (IUNE) y al Instituto de Tecnologías Biomédicas (ITB) de la ULL. Además, ha sido reconocido con el Premio Fundación MAPFRE Canarias al Médico Interno Residente más destacado en los hospitales docentes de Canarias. Surveillance footage showed him purchasing a hacksaw, Tyvek suit, and cleaning supplies at Lowe's on New Year's Day. Investigators recovered blood-stained items from dumpsters including Ana's Hunter boots, pieces of carpet with her DNA, and a hacksaw that tested positive for her blood. But this was not Brian Walshe's first calculated crime. Years earlier, he allegedly stole nearly eight hundred thousand dollars from his own father during a home refinance deal and then vanished for over a decade. When Dr. Thomas Walshe died in 2018, he left Brian nothing in his will but his best wishes. According to court filings, Brian got into his father's home before anyone else, allegedly destroyed the will, and convinced probate court he was the rightful heir. He drained at least two hundred fifty thousand dollars from bank accounts and sold off a Salvador Dalí painting, a Miró, oriental rugs, and jewelry before the scheme was stopped. One longtime family friend wrote that Brian had been diagnosed as a sociopath at Austen Riggs psychiatric hospital. Schon am Freitag hat unser Hausmeister den Baum gebracht und in unser Wohnzimmer gestellt. Anders wäre es nicht zu schaffen gewesen in den letzten arbeitsreichen Tagen vor dem Fest. Jetzt steht er also da, wunderbar dunkelgrün und tatsächlich duftend nach Wald und Harz und Kühle. Und wir haben die Heizung ein bisschen runtergedreht und ihm Wasser in den Christbaumständer gegeben, dass er lange durchhält und uns Freude macht. Und morgen werden wir ihn schmücken, mit Strohsternen und Holzfiguren und kleinen geschenkten Dingen, die ihn dann so wunderschön machen. Und mit elektrischen Kerzen und mit echten Wachskerzen. Mir gefällt die Lichtersymbolik der Adventszeit auf Weihnachten hin so gut. Jeden Adventssonntag eine Kerze mehr am Kranz. Ein kleines Licht mehr, dass das Ankommen Gottes ankündigt und die Sehnsucht danach heller erscheinen lässt. Und dann am Weihnachtsfest der hell erleuchtete Baum mit ganz vielen Lichtern, der zeigt: Gott ist im Kommen. In einer der vielen Geschichten im Advent hatte ich gelesen, dass in vorigen Jahrhunderten der Christbaum tatsächlich unter die Decke gehängt worden ist, mit dem Stamm nach oben und der Spitze nach unten. Und die Deutung dazu war, dass den Leuten deutlich wurde, dass der Baum wie ein Pfeil die Richtung zeigt, weil Gott herunterkommt und unter uns in unserem Alltag und Kleinkram und Sorge und Leid bleiben will. Und dann könnte ja der Baum, wie wir ihn heute sehen, eher unsere Richtung zeigen: den Pfeil nach oben, dorthin wo wir, da wir es weder zeitlich noch räumlich anders denken können, Gottes Gegenwart verorten, in seinem Himmel. Und das ist nicht nur ein frommes Gedanken- und Deutungsspiel. In der heutigen Lesung aus dem Buch Jesaja heißt es unmissverständlich: Ich der Herr will es vollbringen. Und das war viele Jahrhunderte vor Christus. Und im Jakobusbrief, aus dem ersten Jahrhundert nach Christus heißt es: „Brüder und Schwestern, haltet geduldig aus, bis zur Ankunft des Herrn!“ Allein diese Zeitdimension macht uns Heutigen zu schaffen, denen Geduld nicht die bevorzugte Tugend ist. Der leuchtende Baum ist vielleicht eine Gedanken- und Hoffnungsstütze.

Depression fühlt sich wie das Ende an. Aber es kann ein Anfang sein. Ich kann nicht mehr! Ich will nicht mehr! Lass mich in Ruhe! All diese Sätze sind furchtbar und schmerzhaft und machen es dem Traurigen sehr schwer, noch etwas anderes zu sehen. So ging es mir. Und ich will überhaupt nicht so tun, als hätte ich die endgültige Lösung gefunden. Aber heute früh ist mir zumindest etwas klar geworden: Depression ist die Einladung zu einem inneren Rückzug, einer größeren Langsamkeit und Behutsamkeit und zur Innen-Kehr. Und es ist gleichzeitig die Aufforderung des Lebens, rauszugehen und in körperliche Bewegung und in Kontakt zu kommen. Das kann Spazierengehen sein, oder Sport, oder Kontakt machen und sich professionelle Hilfe holen. Egal, was die Stimmen im Innen sagen. Auch wenn sie das genaue Gegenteil sagen. Diese Stimmen sind Teil der Depression. Sie gehören dazu. Wir lassen sie weiterreden... und gehen trotzdem raus... wir gehen unseren Weg...Eine Email einer Zuhörerin brachte diese Folge hervor. Hier ist die EMail: Guten Morgen BorisIch habe dein Buch nun zum zweiten Mal gelesen und es hat soviel in mir aufgewühlt.Dunkelheit und Depression; Da ich dich heute nicht spazieren sah, hab ich mir dein Video von vor 10 Monaten angesehen und sehe auch da immer nur mich. Ich strample mich irgendwie durch und getrau mich nicht, mich irgend jemanden zuzumuten. Und wenn ich es doch tue, hör ich Dinge wie; Reiss dich doch mal zusammen oder sogar: du hockst da mit deinen vollgeschissenen Windeln. Vermutlich sind es Worte, die ich sogar selber von mir glaube. Meine ganz konkrete Frage wäre; Wie sollte ich mich verhalten, wenn ich solche Worte höre?? Es sind nämlich Worte, die ich von meiner Mutter kenne!!Wie ich dir ja schon in meinem vorherigen Mail beschrieben habe, war meine Strategie früher, ein ziemlich aufregendes und abwechslungsreiches Leben. Reisen, Abenteuer aber ich habe auch sehr lange Zeit mit exzessivem Arbeiten verbracht. Gastgewerbe, Tag und Nacht. 60 Stunden und mehr.. Ich war jung und hatte viel Kraft und wenn mich dann doch einmal der Blues erwischt hatte, ging es schnell über zur nächsten Herausforderung. All das ist vorbei. Diese Art von Kraft ist weg. Mir kamen gestern die Sätze:Ich muss nichts tun. Ich muss nichts wissen. Ich darf einfach SEIN.Tönt super spirituell und erleuchtet, doch da ist auch noch immer viel Angst…Danke für dein Short, Das habe ich eben noch gesehen. Ich werde jetzt 4 Kerzen anzünden und die kürzeste Nacht mit euch zusammen feiernIch freue mich schon auf den nächsten Waldspaziergang

Bilanz - und was wir Frauen dabei oft falsch machen Bevor der große Shitstorm losbricht: Keine Sorge. Ich glaube nicht, dass Frauen nicht wirtschaften können oder Probleme beim Erstellen von Unternehmensbilanzen haben. Im Gegenteil, ich denke Frauen sind sogar extrem gute Rechnerinnen und so auch exzellente Geschäftsführerinnen. Wir reden in dieser Folge aber über die persönliche Bilanz am Jahresende. „Ich bin froh, wenn das Jahr vorbei ist." Das habe ich in den letzten Tagen oft gesagt. Nicht dramatisch. Einfach nur müde. Mir reichts jetzt.

Frag dich ehrlich: Wie bist du in diesem Jahr in wichtigen Momenten aufgetreten – in Präsentationen, Mitarbeitergesprächen und Meetings? Hast du die Ruhe, die Klarheit, die Präsenz gespürt, die du dir wünschst? Oder gab es Momente, in denen Aufregung, Unsicherheit oder Druck die Führung übernommen haben? Deine persönlichen Ziele zeigen sich nicht in To-do-Listen, sondern in der Wirkung, die du an jedem einzelnen Tag, jedem einzelnen dieser Momente hinterlässt. 1. Und wann ist es dir gelungen, so souverän und überzeugend zu sein, wie du es in deiner Führungsposition brauchst? #4 Entwicklung – Was hat dich dieses Jahr gelehrt? Manchmal lernen wir am meisten durch Konflikte, Hindernisse und das Verlassen der Komfortzone. Years before Brian Walshe was charged with murdering and dismembering his wife Ana, he allegedly pulled off another calculated crime—this time against his own father. Dr. Thomas Walshe, a prominent neurologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital, hadn't spoken to his son in over a decade when he died unexpectedly while traveling in India in September 2018. And for good reason: according to court documents, Brian had stolen nearly $800,000 from his father during a Lenox home refinance deal years earlier—took the check, then vanished for over a decade.  Thomas made his feelings clear in his will, leaving his only child "my best wishes but nothing else from my estate." He even appointed his nephew Andrew as executor. By the time Thomas's friends intervened, Brian had already drained at least $250,000 from bank accounts, sold off a Salvador Dalí painting, a Miró, oriental rugs, jewelry, even the car—and nearly unloaded the waterfront house itself.  The only reason the scheme was stopped? Court filings also reveal allegations that Brian once tried to smuggle antiquities out of China and allegedly attacked guards when confronted. One longtime friend wrote that Brian was diagnosed as a sociopath at Austen Riggs psychiatric hospital. BUFFALO, NY - December 17, 2025 – A new #research paper was #published in Oncotarget (Volume 16) on December 15, 2025, titled “Machine learning-based survival prediction in colorectal cancer combining clinical and biological features.” In this study, led by Lucas M. Vieira from the University of Brasília and the University of California San Diego, researchers used machine learning to predict survival in patients with colorectal cancer. They built a model by combining biological markers with clinical data. This approach could help improve prognosis and guide treatment strategies for one of the world's most common and deadly cancers. The team analyzed data from over 500 patients, using clinical details such as age, chemotherapy status, and cancer stage, along with molecular features like gene expression and microRNAs. Their goal was to improve how clinicians identify high-risk patients and make outcome predictions more precise. Researchers evaluated three different patient data scenarios using different machine learning techniques. The best-performing was an adaptive boosting model, which achieved 89.58% accuracy. This approach showed that integrating clinical and biological data led to significantly better predictions than using either data type alone. Among the biological markers, the gene E2F8 was consistently influential in all patient groups and is known to play a role in tumor growth. Other important markers included WDR77 and hsa-miR-495-3p, which are also associated with cancer development. Key clinical predictors included cancer stage, patient age, lymph node involvement, and whether chemotherapy was administered. “The proposed method combines biological and clinical features to predict patient survival, using as input data from patients from the United States, available in the TCGA database.” Unlike earlier models that relied on either clinical or molecular data alone, this study demonstrates the added value of combining both. Ensemble methods, which merge multiple learning algorithms, provided more stable and consistent results across all patient groups tested. These research findings could lead to new tools that help clinicians better predict how a patient's disease might progress or respond to treatment. The study also highlights the importance of collecting complete clinical information, such as lifestyle factors, which were missing from the dataset but could enhance future predictions. Overall, the study demonstrated how machine learning can support more accurate and personalized survival predictions in colorectal cancer.
