We are approaching THAT scene. You know the one. The one that will forever irk us. Good thing we've got one teeny tiny chapter before we hit that point. Friends of the Rosary: The month of September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, whose memorial is on September 15. We also celebrate two more Marian feasts: the Nativity of Mary (September 8) and the Holy Name of Mary (September 9). The Exaltation of the Holy Cross is on September 14. The Holy Mother Church sings of the triumph of the Holy Cross, the instrument of our salvation. Also, it thanks God for the blessing of Christ dying on the Cross, which opened the gates of heaven for mankind. Other important memorials we specially like to celebrate at The Rosary Network are:St. Matthew (September 21), St. Padre Pio (September 23), St. Vincent de Paul (September 27), and Sts. Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, Archangels (September 29). Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You! Picture of the Week: Steve shares a funny "what we say vs what we mean" image about tech support conversations. WinRAR v6.23 fixes: Steve explains that updating to the latest WinRAR is more important than initially thought, with two critical vulnerabilities being actively exploited by hackers since April to install malware. HTTPS for local networks: Responding to listener email, Steve agrees HTTP is fine for local network devices like routers but notes risks in larger corporate networks. Portable domains for email: Steve endorses a listener suggestion to purchase your own domain and use third-party services, retaining control if a provider shuts down. Google Topics and monopolies: Steve and Leo debate whether Topics favors large advertisers with greater reach to get user targeting data. Voyager 2 antenna analysis: A listener calculates the antenna beam width mathematically, showing 2 degrees off-axis may not be as remarkable as it sounded. Windows time settings: Steve clarifies the STS issue does not impact end users changing Windows clock settings, it's enterprise server-side. Unix time in TLS handshakes: The hosts discuss why Unix time stamps are sent but not required for TLS, tracing back to early nonce generation. Fake flash drives: Steve warns of a slew of fake high-capacity thumb drives flooding the market, explaining how SpinRite tests detected the flaw. Man-in-the-middle attacks: While agreeing HTTPS helps prevent malicious injection, Steve examines MITM attack practicality, arguing they are difficult for hackers to pull off. The New York Times called “Gone Home” the greatest video game love story ever told.  It's beautiful in its desolation… It's haunting in its endless hallways, and the seemingly simple story doesn't exaggerate and it doesn't pander.  It wholly represents itself in a time and place that as time goes on fewer and fewer of us will be able or willing to remember.  The awkward teenage years.  When love hurts and life is a bitch and the whole world has abandoned you.  The verisimilitude of solitude. Analysis written and read by Eric R. Today on the Dads with Daughters Podcast, we bring you father, astronaut and author Terry Virts. We talk together about fatherhood, being an astronaut and what he has learned about life by looking at the Earth from the outside. Colonel (retired) Terry Virts has spent over seven months in space during his two spaceflights, piloting the Space Shuttle Endeavour on STS-130 in 2010, and commanding the International Space Station during Expedition 42 and 43. He is an avid photographer and has taken the most ever photographs in space, more than 319,000 images altogether. He served in the US Air Force as a fighter pilot, test pilot, NASA astronaut, and is a graduate of the US Air Force Academy, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and Harvard Business School.  The first book Terry read as a child was about the Apollo moon missions and he was hooked. He grew up with posters of airplanes and rockets and galaxies on his bedroom wall, and when he wasn't playing baseball or football, he was reading books about astronomy or astronauts or teaching himself how to program computers. Terry also fell in love with traveling at a young age; he lived in Finland as an exchange student in high school and attended the French Air Force Academy for a semester during college. He has since travelled to all seven continents and lived in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Russia. The film, written by Jon Garcia and Zach Carter and directed by Garcia, premiered to rave reviews at the Miami Film Festival with outlets calling the film “captivating” (Film Factual), saying it “revels in its atmosphere and it is thick with paranoia" (Reel Reviews); further, Blair Witch Project producer Greg Hale says of the film, "STS is a great addition to the sub-sub-genre of Bigfoot horror. The film turns convention on its head with a fresh take on Sasquatch while still delivering on the fun and the scares." They have big plans for their new quiet life, only to find something much more sinister. The couple quickly realize that they are on the land of a cult, and the leader claims a telepathic connection to a legendary flesh-eating beast deep in the woods surrounding them. Friends of the Rosary: Today, we celebrate the Memorial Day of St. Dominic of Guzman (1170-1221), who received the Holy Rosary from the Virgin Mary as a means to combat the destructive heresy of the Albigensian in the twelve century. He crushed the heresy and led many souls to piety and to religious life. The Spaniard priest St. Dominic also founded the Order of Preachers —the Dominicans — in the year 1215. At that time, it was an innovative order since instead of manual labor, as practiced by the Cistercian monks, he required his friars to work with their minds by preaching and teaching. Alongside the Franciscans, the Dominicans became the most powerful Order in medieval times, giving the Church illustrious preachers — St. Vincent Ferrer, Sts. Thomas of Aquinas and Pius V, among others— and contributed immeasurably to maintaining the purity of the faith. St. Dominic, to whom popes and saints have consistently attributed the origin and spread of the holy rosary, had a saint mother, Juana de Aza. During pregnancy, Dominic's mother dreamed she was carrying in her womb a little dog that held a burning torch between its teeth; and when she had given birth, it set the whole world on fire. St Dominic died at Bologna on August 6, 1221. He was canonized three years later by Pope Gregory IX. Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You! Evangelization ChallengeNext time you are with a friend or family member ask The Holy Spirit to tell you what Good News of the Gospel He wants you to share in that time with your friend.  Keep in mind our life on earth is but a short while.  You may never see that person again.  What would the Lord want you to tell them.  Ask the Saints that are Early Church Fathers to pray and intercede for you in this moment of evangelization!Notes on The  Church FathersBoth Western and Eastern Christianity have four figures called the “Great Church Fathers.” These are Sts. Ambrose, Jerome, Augustine, and Gregory the Great in the West, and Basil the Great, Athanasius, Gregory of Nazianzus (Nazianzen) and John Chrysostom in the East. The Roman Catholic Church calls these the “Eight Doctors of the Church,” to which more have been added in the past few centuries.According to most scholars, The Didaché (a brief, anonymous Christian treatise, considered to be the oldest Christian catechism in history) was written between the years 65 and 80. Also known as “the Teaching of the Twelve Apostles,” or simply “The Teaching” (Didaché means “teaching” in Greek), the Didaché is a letter belonging to the very first Christian corpus of literary production. It is considered the first and oldest written catechism, and as such has been respected and preserved to this day. Both the author and the place where the Didaché was written remain unknown. The original text of the Didaché survived in a single manuscript, known as the Codex Hierosolymitanus. Some scholars argue the text was put together by an editor (instead of an author) who might have also written down some teachings directly from apostolic preaching, either in Syria or Egypt. After the text was lost for years, the Metropolitan of Istanbul, Philoteos Bryennios, found a Greek copy in 1873 and published it in 1883. The copy the Metropolitan found dated to 1056. This brief treatise provides us with extra-biblical data regarding the institutions and life of the earliest Christian communities. The Didaché codifies the moral, liturgical, and legal dispositions of the early Church that were considered convenient and necessary then. It almost exclusively consists of “practical” teachings, leaving aside any discussion concerning the dogmatic contents of faith, except for a single chapter. There are hardly any quotations from the Old Testament in the Didaché; instead, the author speaks of the “Gospel of the Lord” (without specifying which of the Synoptics he or she might be referring to), and quotes and alludes to around 20 sayings or statements of Jesus Christ. The author seems to ignore the Gospel of John, and none of St. Paul's epistles is formally cited. The Didaché contains the first known instructions for the celebration of both Baptism and the Eucharist, as well as one of the three earliest known forms of the Lord's Prayer. Considering the various translations of the work, the geographical dispersion of the fragments found and the list of later works that depend on it, the Didaché should be better known among Christians today.Article is from AleteiaRead it here in English

Martha generously offered Jesus hospitality, Mary listened attentively to his words and Lazarus promptly emerged from the tomb at the command of the Lord. In this household of Bethany, the Lord Jesus experienced the family spirit and friendship. In the related reading of today (Jn 11:19-27), Christ reminded a critical truth to Martha: “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and anyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world.” Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus Pray for Us! Friends of the Rosary: Today, July 26th, is the Memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and also the grandparents of Jesus. In the home of Joachim and Anne the Virgin Mary was educated to be the Mother of God. Joachim was a prominent and respected man who had no children, and he and his wife, Anne, looked upon this as a punishment from God. In answer to their prayers, Mary was born and was dedicated to God at a very early age. Our devotion to Anne and Joachim is an extension of our affection toward our Blessed Mother. The couple early became models of Christian marriage. We, too, owe a debt of gratitude to our parents for their help in our Christian formation — as long as they are able to transmit the faith! Inspired by the Christ-centered friendships of Blessed Pier Georgio, let's explore Christian Friendship, through the example of some saints who were friends in real life! Monday: hear the story of 16 French nuns, united in friendship, who bravely faced death and effectively ended the Reign of Terror Tuesday: hear the story of St Ignatius of Loyola and St. Francis Xavier, college roommates who baptized tens of thousands! Wednesday: hear the story of St. Marcina the Younger, and the friendships she had with her siblings, most of which are now saints too! Thursday: hear the story of Sts. Francis and Clare of Assisi, and how their radical choice to follow Jesus made it possible for others to do the same. Friday: hear the story of Sts. Felicity and Perpetua, two very different women who, united in Jesus, bravely faced death in His name.
