Today, we primarily occupy ourselves with alternative explanations to the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation. Many listeners will be familiar with Pierre Marie Robitaille's theory that the CMB is produced due to the hydrogen bond lattice of the oceans. Here, Assis lays out a different theory - championed by at least four Nobel Laureates - that the CMB isn't the afterglow of the Big Bang - it's simply the temperature at which the cold, dark objects of space are equilibrated against the background light of the stars. We also hear from a listener about wanting to work in the kids activities area, either in the parks or the resorts. With Walt Disney World not doing full blown Overlays as Disneyland does with the Haunted Mansion, it's fun to look at what could be. We'll hear from Stephen first with his idea to lightly add Christmas touches to Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway. Kaity will then talk about adding Coco to the Three Caballeros attraction in Epcot's Mexico Pavilion before talking about a fun idea of adding the holidays to Expedition Everest. Bryan then provides his idea of the Muppets Christmas Carol taking over Remy's Ratatouille Adventure and providing it from the point of view of Rizzo the Rat. This kicks off a conversation about the state of the Muppets. We even get into Honey, I Shrunk the Audience and Captain EO before getting back to Overlays. We'll consider the Simpson's taking over Tiana's Bayou Adventure and Muppet's Treasurer Island Overlaid on Pirates of the Caribbean. Before our last conversation about holiday music played by Sonny Eclipse at Cosmic Ray's, we have a fun conversation about Alien Extra-terror-estrial and a scary Stitch. You can find the Idiot's Guide to Imagineering on Instagram ‎@IdiotsImagineering  I appreciate them joining me this week! Make sure you hit that subscribe button so you know when there are new episodes. EPISODE 282 - We finish our coverage of John Byrne's FF with the issue where Sue Richards changes her name from The Invisible Girl to The Invisible Woman. It's a fine issue that mostly features She-Hulk breaking out of Psycho-Man's fear spell. We also learn the story of Pearla, Queen of the Microverse! We give some closing thoughts on John Byrne. For a good John Byrne issue, and there were many you got: strong confident storytelling, exciting purposeful battles, clearly told stories, a strong command of where your eye goes, and what your heart wants to know. Byrne in the 80s was iconic, truly one of the best and most popular creators in America. The shortcomings: his art starts to get sketchier as he strives to produce more. His faces look... honestly, the same? It's almost strange how that DOESN'T hurt the story telling. He gets more and more about the references. Although funny, he's best when he isn't doing a book which is billed as comedic first and foremost. But for the FF, he revitalized the comic, giving Kirby's creations an often upgraded portrayal. Next season: Peter Milligan's run on The Human Target

Welcome to Discover Daily, where we bring you the latest in tech, science, and culture. In today's episode, we start with the takedown of the 911 S5 botnet by the U.S. Department of Justice and FBI, which was responsible for a wide range of cybercrimes, including the theft of $5.9 billion in COVID-19 relief funds. The botnet, managed by YunHe Wang, hacked into over 19 million IP addresses globally, using malicious VPN applications to push malware onto victims' devices.Next, we explore Mistral AI's launch of Codestral, a generative AI model designed to assist developers in writing and interacting with code across more than 80 programming languages. This model, with its high performance and broad language support, is set to revolutionize the coding process by completing coding functions, writing tests, and filling in partial code. We also discuss BYD's new plug-in hybrid sedans, the Qin L and Seal 06, which boast an impressive driving range of over 1,300 miles on a single tank of fuel and a fully charged battery, thanks to their advanced DM-i 5.0 plug-in hybrid platform. We then dive into the innovative use of cosmic rays to date archaeological sites, highlighting a prehistoric settlement in northern Greece dated to between 5328 and 5140 BC. This method combines dendrochronology and radiocarbon dating with the identification of cosmic ray events, providing precise chronological reference points. Finally, we address the global myopia epidemic, discussing its causes, consequences, and preventive measures. The rise in myopia is attributed to factors like excessive near work and reduced outdoor time, with high myopia leading to severe vision-threatening conditions. From Perplexity's Discover feed:World's Largest Botnet Dismantled https://www.perplexity.ai/search/Worlds-largest-botnet-Odbwu7R9TXO2mNH1ahAsbQMistral Releases Codestral Model https://www.perplexity.ai/page/Mistral-releases-Codestral-4ELwgzmjQ9OMbBOExqikiA#eae99bc8-db91-4225-bdb5-f3eb73225e7fBYD Unveils 1300-Mile Range Hybrid https://www.perplexity.ai/page/BYD-Unveils-1300Mile-stl6Hma_THe5CKybgx_vRg Cosmic Rays Date Archaeological Sitehttps://www.perplexity.ai/page/Cosmic-Rays-Date-4EenruEKRSq57H7yZ7ATsgThe myopia epidemichttps://www.perplexity.ai/search/The-myopia-epidemic-9iyrncRiSO61E12zWVHpiQPerplexity is the fastest and most powerful way to search the web. The times & events that we now bear witness have long been foretold.  The prophets of truth understood the grander cycles of the Skyclock above when the release of Cosmic Rays would forever change the consciousness of all Life on Earth.  The forces of dark can no longer remain hidden, but these revelations have come at a price to many.  Some have incarnated with a destiny suited to the collective awakening, and the life experiences of Cathy O'Brien have been a light for those wishing to reclaim Spirit through sovereignty. Cathy O'Brien was sold into the Project Monarch, one of the 149 known sub-projects of the CIA'S MK ULTRA Experiments that began in 1953. These secret programs were initiated by governing jurisdictions in an effort to understand and utilize mind control to further another agenda. Being a victim of the elite's Monarch Program, as a slave Cathy was exposed to many world leaders at the national and international levels. Through her rescue and healing process, she was able to reclaim the memories of what she witnessed while under mind control. Her story provides insight into how we've been controlled and how to reclaim personal and collective sovereignty. The era of social engineering has come to an end, and Cathy will share her recent healing work with children, and survivors of the same trauma-based control that she herself endured.   Show links: https://tranceformationofamerica.locals.com/ https://www.trance-formation.com/ https://www.trance.movie Join Barre & Mike at  Music & Sky 2024 - June 20-24th in Mendocino County, CA. Dr. Ellen Zweibel is the W. L. Kraushaar Professor of Astronomy and Physics, and the Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Ellen is a theoretical astrophysicist who specializes in plasma astrophysics. Her studies examine electricity and magnetism in the cosmos, including phenomena like sun spots, the solar cycle, and high energy electromagnetic emissions (e.g. x-rays, gamma rays, and radio waves) from stars and galaxies. Ellen's interests outside of science include creative writing, art, and exercise. She has recorded her thoughts and sketches in a journal since 1977, and drawing is a wonderful way for Ellen to see details in her surroundings that she might otherwise miss. In addition, Ellen has explored her artistic side through sculpting clay and painting. As far as exercise, Ellen runs at least 45 minutes every day. She received her bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Chicago and her PhD in Astrophysical Sciences from Princeton University. Ellen served as a faculty member at the University of Colorado for over 20 years before joining the faculty at the University of Wisconsin in 2003. Ellen has received numerous awards and honors during her career, including being elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society and being awarded the American Physical Society's Maxwell Prize for Plasma Physics. Cosmic Rays are high energy particles, usually protons, that originate from various sources within the Milky Way as well as from extragalactic sources . An international team of scientists use specialized equipment to detect, and study these rays which provide insight into the most energetic processes occurring in the universe. Scientists Report Second Highest-Energy Cosmic Ray Ever DetectedAround 30 years ago, scientists in Utah were monitoring the skies for cosmic rays when they detected a surprising particle. It struck the atmosphere with much more energy than they had previously seen—enough energy to cause the researchers to dub it the “Oh My God Particle.”Over the years, a collaboration of researchers in Utah and Japan has detected other powerful rays—about 30 a year—but none that rival the OMG. In 2021, however, a second particle was detected. It was only slightly less powerful than OMG, but still many times more powerful than can be created on Earth. That 2021 particle was named “Amaterasu,” after a sun goddess from the Japanese Shinto religion. The researchers described their observations in a recent issue of the journal Science. The researchers believe the particle must have come from relatively nearby, cosmically speaking, as otherwise it would likely have collided with something in space and lost its energy. However, when they tried to trace the particle back to its origin in space, they were unsuccessful. Both the OMG particle and the new Amaterasu particle seem to have come from empty regions of space, with no violent events or massive structures to create them.Dr. John Matthews, a research professor in physics and astronomy and manager of the Cosmic Ray Physics Program at the University of Utah, joins Ira to talk about cosmic rays, how they're detected, and the challenges of finding the origin of particles like Amaterasu. These Penguins Are The Masters Of MicrosleepingDo you know that feeling when you're just so tired that your head starts to droop? Your eyes feel heavy? And you drift off for just a moment … before snapping back to alertness, wondering what just happened.Sleep comes in a variety of snoozes and sizes. We humans are not going to get a full night's rest by nodding off here and there, but that's pretty much what some chinstrap penguins do: They doze off more than 10,000 times a day, for just a few seconds at a time. And when you do the math, it can add up to 11 hours of sleep each day, according to a recent study in the journal Science.Ira talks with study author Dr. Paul-Antoine Libourel, a sleep biologist at the Neurosciences Research Center of Lyon in France, about how the penguins do this and the advantages of microsleeps.Transcripts for each segment will be available the week after the show airs on sciencefriday.com.
