2026 promises to be the most exciting year in the new space age yet! Shining bright is the prospect of an Artemis II launch to send astronauts around the moon for the first time since 1972, as early as February. We've already seen news about a medical incident on the International Space Station that will force a crew to return to Earth early, but NASA says this won't affect the Artemis launch. On other news, NASA's budget seems on track to be passed at near 2025 levels, China is preparing to send a robot to the south lunar pole, SpaceX plans robust tests of Starship this year—and hopefully refinement of their lander for Artemis III, Boeing will fly Starliner again (uncrewed), Mars Sample Return is poised to be scuttled, and all this under the leadership of a new—and apparently quite capable—NASA administrator, Jared Isaacman. The Space Show Presents Tom Olson, Sunday, 12-28-25.Quick Summary:Our program focused on reviewing key space industry developments and trends in 2025, with Tom Olson leading a discussion on global launch statistics, commercial space progress, and future outlooks. The group examined SpaceX's dominance in launches, China's growing space capabilities, and the status of NASA's Artemis program, while also discussing emerging technologies like space-based data centers and AI computing. The conversation covered space debris concerns, the potential for nuclear power in space, and the future of human spaceflight, including the upcoming retirement of the ISS in 2030. The participants also touched on the commercialization of space resources, property rights discussions, and the increasing investment in space startups, with particular attention to Starlink's market expansion and its $80/month pricing in the US market.Detailed Summary:Tom and I discussed our plan for this year-end show, covering topics such as global launch, SpaceX Starship, and future policy ideas. Before moving on, I reminded listeners about the upcoming open line discussion on Tuesday, the last program of 2025 for The Space Show, with my making our Zoom program an open invitation program with the requirements of civility, no eating on camera, no name calling, no shouting and talking over people. Otherwise, even if you disagree with what is being said, be civil about it as you let us know your thoughts on the topic.Tom discussed upcoming events, including Starship's launch and a trip to India. He also shared details about his radio show and podcast, “The Unknown Quantity,” which focuses on the intersection of space and money. He highlighted the rapid growth of the space industry and his involvement in various events, including a pitch competition for young entrepreneurs and a panel discussion on lunar space economy. Tom expressed enthusiasm for these opportunities to engage with the space community and influence future developments. Our Wisdom Team brought up property rights in space, particularly regarding the moon, and the potential for helium-3 mining for quantum computing. Tom shared insights from a recent discussion with government officials about lunar economy development. The conversation touched on the Outer Space Treaty's limitations and the potential for private sector claims. This part of our discussion concluded with a brief mention of 3D mapping technology's potential to resolve border disputes diplomatically.Tom reported that global launches in 2023 set a record with 328 launches, with the U.S. leading at 198 launches and only 4 failures, followed by China with 91 launches and 3 failures. He noted that SpaceX dominated U.S. launches with 150 flights, while Russia had 17 successful launches. Tom also discussed SpaceX's progress with Starship, including two successful test flights and plans for six Block 3 launches starting in late January, aiming to reach low Earth orbit and demonstrate refueling. As a group we briefly touched on Blue Origin's development of the Blue Moon lander and Rocket Lab's plans to launch from Wallops, with Thomas mentioning that SpaceX has received permission to launch from the Cape, potentially as early as late next year.Tom and David discussed the regulatory environment for space launches, noting that while intentions are good, legal challenges have slowed progress. They debated the future of NASA's Artemis program, with Tom suggesting that Artemis III will reach the moon before China but may be unsustainable at its current cost. The conversation also touched on commercial space activities, including Russia's recent launch facility accident and the status of the Starliner spacecraft after a long-duration mission. The group discussed the status of the Gateway project, which ESA and the EU have decided to build independently, taking it off NASA's hands. Joe shared his experience with Starlink, paying $120 monthly for 200 Mbps download speed. The conversation then shifted to astronomy and space science updates, including the discovery of 6,000 extrasolar planets, new analyses of TRAPPIST-1E, and the first images from the Vera Rubin Observatory. Tom and John Jossy discussed upcoming developments in dark energy research and potential discoveries about dark matter. The conversation ended with a discussion about future trends in space exploration, with Tom predicting increased focus on AI and space-based data centers. The Wisdom Team discussed the feasibility and challenges of AI data centers in space, with Joe presenting an economic analysis suggesting it would cost three times as much as building data centers in Oregon. They explored the technical aspects, including latency concerns and the potential for clusters of satellites in sun-synchronous orbit. The conversation also touched on the future of the ISS, with concerns about maintaining research capabilities after 2030 and the potential for private sector involvement. Tom mentioned his organization, Center for Space Commerce, planning a Space Investment Summit in Turkey next year. John Jossy shared information about Rendezvous Robotics, a company working on space infrastructure, and their partnership with StarCloud for orbital data centers. In this episode, we take a deep dive into the cosmic events and scientific discoveries that await us in 2026. We kick off with an exciting preview of lunar exploration, as NASA's Artemis program prepares to send astronauts on a historic flyby of the Moon, alongside a fleet of robotic landers from various commercial companies, including Jeff Bezos's Blue Moon. Next, we highlight the total solar eclipse on August 12, which will cross the Arctic, as well as a ring of fire eclipse in Antarctica, making 2026 a year for eclipse chasers.Shifting our focus to the edge of our solar system, we discuss the latest findings from the Voyager probes, which have uncovered a "wall of fire" at the boundary of the heliosphere, challenging our understanding of solar and interstellar interactions. We also explore Russia's recent launch of the Abzor R1, a radar Earth observation satellite that enhances their surveillance capabilities, marking a significant step in their sovereign space program. In a discovery that feels like science fiction, scientists have detected interstellar tunnels—narrow structures of hot plasma extending from our solar bubble into the galaxy, possibly formed by ancient supernovae. This revelation adds a new layer of complexity to our understanding of galactic structure. Finally, we examine the rapidly evolving commercial space race, with updates on China's reusable rocket initiatives and how companies like Stokespace and Relativity Space are transforming Florida's historic Space Coast into a hub for future launches. Josh is joined by Richard Linklater Correspondent Josh Brown for a double feature of the writer/director's 2025 releases. First, they talk about "Nouvelle Vague" (Beginning-36:11) and how it captured early 1960s Paris, its depiction of various stalwarts of the French New Wave including Jean-Luc Godard, if it was insightful enough as to the behind-the-scenes making of "Breathless" to make the entire enterprise worth it and much more! Then, they discuss "Blue Moon" and how it did in capturing the complicated feelings lyricist Lorenz Hart was feeling on the night his old partner Richard Rogers's musical "Oklahoma!" premiered, whether the film was successful in convincing the audience that Ethan Hawke was actually diminutive and bald in having him portray Hart, the supporting performances from the likes of Andrew Scott, Bobby Cannavale and Margaret Qualley and much more!

SYNOPSIS:The lines often get blurred in Moonlighting, and this is one example. David is still in prison, and nobody knows where he is. It's not only his friends who are wondering where he is; it's also network executives. They seek the services of a fortune teller, who uses a crystal ball in an attempt to locate David, but all she sees are bars. Following this, they begin auditioning to find a replacement. We begin to see the auditions, with men in line all dressed up in various outfits that David wore in previous episodes. David is released from solitary confinement and placed in a work gang, where his fellow convicts advise him to marry Maddie.Bert is using his new, temporary title of Blue Moon supervisor, awarded to him by David, to put the employees in line. David witnesses illegal activities by a prison guard, who is about to kill him, but fortunately, a riot starts, allowing David to escape unnoticed. Agnes and Bert decide to start investigating the whereabouts of “Mr. Addison.”The episode features a lengthy musical number performed by the prisoners in the style of "When I Was a Lad" from Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. This week on The Data Minute, Peter sits down with Ben Orthlieb, Founding Partner at Blue Moon VC, for a look under the hood of a firm that has completely re-engineered the venture capital process using AI.Ben explains how Blue Moon uses a proprietary tech stack to source over 12,000 teams a year and screen them down to the top 5% based on their probability of graduating to Series B, achieving performance metrics that rival top-tier firms without the massive headcount. He breaks down why the "warm intro" is obsolete, how sending AI-generated dossiers to founders results in a 75% meeting acceptance rate, and why human judgment is still the final decision-maker.They also discuss the "hollowing middle" of the venture market, why multi-billion dollar funds struggle to innovate their own workflows, and how a small check strategy allows Blue Moon to cooperate, rather than compete, with the biggest names in the industry.Subscribe to Carta's weekly Data Minute newsletter: https://carta.com/subscribe/data-newsletter-sign-up/Explore interactive startup and VC data, with Carta's Data Desk: https://carta.com/data-desk/Chapters00:00 – Intro: The AI-first VC01:27 – Blue Moon's thesis: Coverage and Winning03:11 – How to source 12,000 teams a year without a network05:40 – "Machine learning instinct": Optimizing for Series B graduation07:44 – Backtesting the algorithm against top 50 Seed firms10:12 – The 75% meeting conversion rate (and why cold email works)12:30 – The "AI Dossier": Showing founders you did the work14:13 – Finding outliers outside the "Credibility Pool" (The Mercor story)16:05 – The investment process: Where AI ends and humans begin18:43 – Does it matter who else is on the cap table?23:36 – The "Small Check" advantage in winning allocation25:22 – How to interview for resilience30:20 – Why personal questions are a competitive advantage32:31 – Follow-ons, reserves, and systematic secondaries36:00 – Why haven't big funds copied this strategy yet?39:54 – The "hollowing middle" of the VC market44:40 – Why brand is the only defense against noise49:20 – Do warm intros actually result in better investments?52:46 – The future of the "Operator-VC" model56:00 – What LPs really think about an AI-driven fund59:07 – OutroThis presentation contains general information only and eShares, Inc. dba Carta, Inc. 2025 has been the Year of Superman, and Missing Frames has been celebrating James Gunn's new film by sitting down with some of the writers, artists, and actors who help make the Man of Steel so special. Past conversations have included comic legends Dan Jurgens, Mark Waid, Tom King, and Phillip Kennedy Johnson, reflections on Richard Donner's iconic film with Lauren Shuler Donner, and even a chat with Ma Kent herself, Neva Howell.Today's guest is another incredible talent: Jonah Lees, who appears in Superman as Dean Farr, one of Lex Luthor's LuthorCorp cronies, alongside his real-life twin brother, Christian. But Jonah's career extends far beyond Metropolis. A highlight of the conversation is his work with Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke on Blue Moon, as well as his recent portrayal of John Lennon in the Brian Epstein biopic Midas Man. An actor, songwriter, musician, and director, Jonah is a multifaceted creative whose range is as impressive as it is exciting. What begins as a Superman celebration quickly becomes a love letter to many shared passions: Superman, Richard Linklater, and The Beatles.
David is released from solitary confinement and placed in a work gang, where his fellow convicts advise him to marry Maddie. Bert is using his new, temporary title of Blue Moon supervisor, awarded to him by David, to put the employees in line. David witnesses illegal activities by a prison guard, who is about to kill him, but fortunately, a riot starts, allowing David to escape unnoticed. Agnes and Bert decide to start investigating the whereabouts of “Mr. Addison.” The episode features a lengthy musical number performed by the prisoners in the style of "When I Was a Lad" from Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore.MOONLIGHTING THE TV SHOWThe show is all about the hit TV Show Moonlighting which aired from 1985 to 1989 starring Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd.Grace Chivell and Shawna Saari take a look at each episode in chronological order from the Pilot to the end of the fifth and final season. They discuss the direction, the production, the outfits, the lighting, the car chases, and the tumultuous relationship between Maddie Hayes and David Addison.FOR MORE INFORMATION:https://moonlightingthepodcast.comMOONLIGHTING COMMUNITY:Fans Facebook Group:Facebook Page:Instagram Twitter/XPURCHASE:Moonlighting: An Episode Guide Bookon TuckerDSPressOR on Amazon:Moonlighting MerchandiseSubscribe to our YouTube Channel Learn more about Grace here:Learn more about Shawna here:Donate at Ko-fi.comPersonal Instagram:https://instagram.com/grace_chivellhttps://instagram.com/saari_not.saari Hosted on Acast. Filmmaker Richard Linklater doesn't speak French, but that didn't stop him from directing a movie that's almost entirely in French. ‘Nouvelle Vague' focuses on the beginning of the New Wave of cinema, specifically Jean-Luc Godard and his landmark 1960 movie ‘Breathless.' "I know that sounds insane," Linklater says, "but me not having the language wasn't even in my top 10 concerns about if I could pull off the movie." Linklater spoke with Terry Gross about the impact of the French New Wave, and his other new film, ‘Blue Moon.' It's about Broadway lyricist Lorenz Hart, the former creative partner of Richard Rodgers. Also, Maureen Corrigan reviews the novel Heart the Lover by Lily King.
