After years of development, testing, disappointment, and perseverance, NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Willams took Boeing's CST 100 Starliner to the International Space Station for its first flight with a human crew. The team discusses all facets of the launch, rendezvous, docking (not without its moments of drama), and public reaction to the mission thus far. Also this week, the fourth test flight of the SpaceX Starship Super-Heavy booster and a re-entry test of the Starship vehicle itself. The super-heavy vehicle is critical for NASA's Artemis lunar landing program, and a derivative of Starship was selected by NASA to be the human lunar lander used on Artemis III. The team puts the fourth Starship test into perspective. Starship development was also critical for the SpaceX/ Yusaku Maezawa dearMoon program, which was to take Maezawa and eight invitees into orbit around the Moon. However, Maezawa announced that since a 2023 launch had become "unfeasible" and lacked a "clear schedule," he was canceling the program. The announcement drew some ire in the space community, and we examine the fallout. One of The Hubble Space Telescope's three gyroscopes used to point the telescope to distant objects has failed. We look at a Media Telecon where NASA's astrophysics leader, Dr. Mark Clampen, indicated the agency will continue to utilize Hubble in a "one gyro mode" so the iconic telescope can still deliver good science with only a 20% loss of capability. The orbiting telescope is in overall good health and should continue to operate until 2035. At the same teleconference, Dr. Clampen announced that NASA has no intention of launching a Hubble servicing or re-boost mission in the foreseeable future. This news ends the SpaceX/Polaris plan to launch a possible servicing mission to the telescope. A May 2024 NPR article by Nell GreenfeldBoyce also reported NASA's concerns about the unsolicited proposal. Sadly, the past few episodes have ended in obituaries, and that trend continues. The team takes a few moments to remember NASA Apollo 8 Astronaut William Anders, who died in a plane crash this past weekend. All this and more in this edition of Talking Space! Host: Gene Mikulka Panel Members: Mark Ratterman, Heather Smith

Was sollen Menschen überhaupt im Weltraum? Dann schreiben Sie uns gerne an podcast@hy.co. Wir freuen uns über Post von Ihnen.
Russell "Rusty" Schweikart grew up with a great interest in aviation and watching the planes fly around Lakehurst Naval Air Station in New Jersey. So it was no surprise when he joined the U.S. Air Force and was trained as a fighter pilot. He later joined the Massachusetts Air National Guard. But in 1963, he was selected as a NASA astronaut and was soon on track to be part of the Apollo program to fulfill President John F. Kennedy's vision of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth. In this edition of "Veterans Chronicles, Capt. Schweikart takes us through his days in the Air Force and Air National Guard. He also details the moment in a cafeteria that he decided to pursue becoming an astronaut and the training he went through to prepare for space. Schweikart also walks us through the dark days following the deadly Apollo 1 fire that killed Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee in 1967 and the changes that were made as a result. Finally, Schweikart takes us step by step through his Apollo 9 mission, the testing of the lunar module and Apollo space suits, and the mesmerizing moments of looking back towards Earth during the first-ever Apollo spacewalk.
The NASA Apollo 13 recordings are a unique and valuable resource for understanding the Apollo 13 mission and the challenges faced by the crew. The recordings include everything from the astronauts' conversations with Mission Control to their descriptions of the explosion that damaged the spacecraft and their efforts to survive and return to Earth. The Apollo 13 recordings were recently digitized and restored, and they are now available online for the first time. This is a significant event, as it allows us to hear the events of the mission unfold firsthand from the perspective of the astronauts. The recordings are also a testament to the ingenuity and courage of the Apollo 13 crew. In the face of a crisis, they worked together with Mission Control to find a way to survive and return home safely. Their story is one of hope and resilience, and the recordings provide a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people work together. Here are some of the most notable moments from the Apollo 13 recordings:"Houston, we've had a problem." - Jim Lovell, reporting the explosion that damaged the spacecraft."Power down everything but the essentials." - Gene Kranz, Flight Director in Mission Control, giving the order to conserve power."We're going to have to use the LM as a lifeboat." - Jim Lovell, deciding to use the Lunar Module to return to Earth."We're going to make it." - Jim Lovell, expressing confidence in the crew's ability to survive and return home."Splashdown confirmed! Apollo 13 is safe." - Mission Control, announcing the safe landing of the Apollo 13 spacecraft in the Pacific Ocean. The Apollo 13 recordings are a fascinating and inspiring record of a mission that could have ended in disaster, but instead became a story of triumph. They are a must-listen for anyone interested in the history of space exploration and the human spirit. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5995136/advertisement

Uh, Houston we've had a problem.” That 7 seconds of audio has been immortalized throughout time, history, and culture. Even if that was your first time hearing the original audio, you've definitely heard the quote “Houston, we've had a problem.” That's astronaut Jim Lovell, commander of NASA's Apollo 13 mission to the moon in 1970. But did you know the context of that quote? What the actual problem is? Did you know just how close Apollo 13 came to being the worst disaster in the history of space exploration? Let's fix that. Episode 6. What does systems engineering have to do with AI fundamentals? In this episode, the team discusses what data and computer science as professions can learn from systems engineering, and how the methods and mindset of the latter can boost the quality of AI-based innovations.Show notes News and episode commentary 0:03ChatGPT usage is down for the second straight month. The importance of understanding the data and how it affects the quality of synthetic data for non-tabular use cases like text. (Episode 5, Synthetic data)Business decisions. The 2012 case of Target using algorithms in their advertising. (CIO, June 2023)Systems engineering thinking. 3:45The difference between building algorithms and building models, and building systems. The term systems engineering came from Bell Labs in the 1940s, and came into its own with the NASA Apollo program.A system is a way of looking at the world. There's emergent behavior, complex interactions and relationships between data.AI systems and ML systems are often distant from the expertise of people who do systems engineering.Learning the hard way. 9:25Systems engineering is about doing things the hard way, learning the physical sciences, math and how things work. What else can be learned from the Apollo program.Developing a system, and how important it is to align the importance of criticality and safety of the project.Systems engineering is often associated incorrectly with waterfall in software engineering, What is a safer model to build? 14:26What is a safer model, and how is systems engineering going to fit in with this world? The data science hacker culture can be counterintuitive to this approach For example, actuaries have a professional code of ethics and a set way that they learn.Step back and review your model. 18:26Peer review your model and see if they can break it and stress-test it. Build monitoring around knowing where the fault points are and also talk to business leaders.Be careful about the other impacts that can have on the business or externally on the people who start using it.Marketing this type of engineering as robustness of the model, identifying what it is good at and what it's bad at, and that in itself can be a piece of selling.Systems thinking gives a chance to create lasting models What did you think? AS17-135-20680 (OF300). This sequence of numbers and letters may mean nothing to you, but head to the Apollo 17 photo archive at NASA's online headquarters and search that file number. What you can see and freely download due to all declassification of the archive, has been a subject of hot debate and study for years. What looks like the impossible is present on the surface of our moon. Some say this photo is THE smoking gun of extraterrestrial activity outside of earth. Some people simply shake their heads and say they cannot explain its mind-shattering implications. It seems that no one is saying what it could be. Is the photo truly a smoking gun? Richard Stachurski joined the US Air Force in 1962, on the cusp of the Cuban Missile Crisis as a security police officer guarding nuclear-armed B-58 Hustler bombers.Within two years he volunteered for the Minuteman nuclear missile program where he served as a Deputy Missile Combat Crew Commander with the 68th Strategic Missile Squadron at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. Richard was the junior officer on a two-man crew in a launch control capsule buried beneath the South Dakota prairie who was charged with monitoring the status and launching if necessary ten Minuteman ICBMs. In 1965 he was selected as one of 128 Air Force officers to be loaned to NASA to support the activation and operation of the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas. He worked his way up to being a Network Controller, who sat two consoles to the right of the Flight Director in the Mission Operations Control Room. He was responsible for all the ground systems that supported an Apollo mission and was selected as the lead Network Controller on Apollo 11 working on both the launch from Earth and the first-ever launch from the lunar surface. Bart Sibrel joins the darkside to talk about his incredible journey discovering the truth about the fraudulent NASA Apollo moon landings. Bart was abducted, punched in the face by Buzz Aldrin, and had a death threat from Edgar Mitchell. Through that adversity Bart still managed to create 2 very popular documentaries (available below) and release his new book "Moon Man: The True Story of a Filmmaker on the CIA Hit List." The evidence is damning. We spoke for 90 minutes about the evidence, the Apollo 1 fire, Stanley Kubrick, Capricorn One, Apollo 13, aliens, whats next and finding God. Farouk El-Baz talked about his career in archaeology, electrical engineering, space, and geology. He was a lead scientist on the NASA Apollo 11 team in 1969.Egyptian born Farouk El Baz has been research professor and director of the Center for Remote Sensing at Boston University since 1986. While working with the Apollo Space Program (1967-72), he applied satellite imagery to moon surfaces and chaired the Astronaut Training Group. He later studied the arid areas of the world and used his analysis of space photography to select areas for investigation on the ground in Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, China, and India. Much of his career has been spent applying space technology to geography, geology, archaeology, and the environment. He used his remote sensing technology to develop underground water resources in Egypt and to document the extent of destruction following the first Gulf war. He was recently appointed a member of the Committee on Grand Challenges for Engineering in the 21st Century.Created & hosted by Mikey Muhanna, afikra Edited by: Ramzi RammanTheme music by: Tarek Yamani https://www.instagram.com/tarek_yamani/About the afikra Tijara:Tijara is an interview series focusing on the history of economics, business, and trade and how these three fields helped shape culture and life in the Arab world. Apollo 1, initially designated AS-204, was the first crewed mission of the United States Apollo program, the undertaking to land the first man on the Moon. It was planned to launch on February 21, 1967, as the first low Earth orbital test of the Apollo command and service module. The mission never flew; a cabin fire during a launch rehearsal test at Cape Kennedy Air Force Station Launch Complex 34 on January 27 killed all three crew members—Command Pilot Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom, Senior Pilot Ed White, and Pilot Roger B. Chaffee—and destroyed the command module (CM). The name Apollo 1, chosen by the crew, was made official by NASA in their honor after the fire. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/art-mcdermott/support

Mike Loucks is the CEO of Space Exploration Engineering (SEE), which he co-founded in 1995. He received a BA in Physics/Astronomy from Whitman College, WA in 1985 and an MS in Aerospace Engineering Sciences from the University of Colorado in 1991. He co-founded SEE corp. in 1995 after working as an operations and trajectory planning expert for Orbital Sciences Corporation. The NASA Apollo missions and science fiction by Robert Heinlein got Mike interested and space and astronomy. Early on, he pondered becoming an astronomer but later decided that aerospace engineering was his true passion. We chatted about the founding of SEE and his work there. Mike then told me about the kinds of computer and software tools he uses for orbital and celestial mechanics and the role Macs have played in his life. Mike finished with some great advice for students who want to pursue a career in aerospace engineering.

Foundations of Amateur Radio In 1958 The Kentucky Engineer published an award winning student article by Copthorne "Coppie" MacDonald. He described a Slow-Scan T.V. System for Image Transmission. If you get the opportunity, have a look for the link on his archived home-page which you can find from the Wikipedia SSTV page. The purpose of this narrow band television idea was to be able to send images using cheaper equipment and less bandwidth than normal television. The idea caught on and it's still in use today. In 1959 the idea of slow scan tv was used by the Luna 3 mission to transmit images from the far side of the moon. The NASA Apollo program also used SSTV to transmit images from Apollo 7, 8, 9 and from the Apollo 11 Lunar Module. In 1968 SSTV became a legal mode for radio amateurs in the United States. The International Space Station regularly uses SSTV to send images to radio amateurs across the globe. The version of SSTV in use by radio amateurs today is different from the earlier grainy black and white images coming from the moon and if you're expecting a moving image, something that TV implies, you're going to be disappointed, since the popular SSTV modes send images one at a time, taking up to a minute or so to send. With a frame-rate of one frame per minute, watching anything other than grass grow is going to be a challenge. That said, SSTV is a lovely and relatively simple way of sending images across the air. In my quest for new adventures I like to play with things I know nothing about. I suspect that it's ingrained but it does keep me off the street. The other day I received an email from a local amateur, Adrian VK6XAM, who sent a message describing a new SSTV repeater he'd set-up for testing purposes. It's a local 2m repeater that waits for an activation tone, then it expects you to transmit an SSTV image and it will replay the image back to you. If you've familiar with a parrot repeater, this is a similar thing, just for SSTV rather than audio. The repeater is running on solar power and with the 100% duty cycle of SSTV, it's only available during daylight hours. Technicalities aside, I couldn't resist. So, I fired up QSSTV, a piece of Linux software that among other things knows how to receive and send SSTV images. After turning on my radio, tuning to the correct frequency, I received my first ever SSTV picture. On a bright red background a yellow symbol appeared. At first I thought it was a hammer and sickle, but on closer inspection it was a micrometer and caliper, which absolutely tickled my fancy, having just taken delivery of some precision measuring tools - a Mitutoyo Test Indicator and a few other bits and pieces for another project I'm working on. Had to learn how to drive QSSTV, make a template so you can overlay text on an image, learn what a signal report should look like, then when I figured all that out I triumphantly hit send and it made all the right noises, but nothing was happening. More time looking at the inter-web taught me that if I want to use the rear connection on my FT-857d to send audio using FM, as opposed to SSB which is what most digital modes need, you need to set the radio to PSK mode and magically it starts to work. My first ever SSTV image was sent an hour and a half after receiving my first image and the repeater dutifully sent it back. Then I got a picture from Keith VK6WK. Of course the paint isn't even dry on any of this, so there's plenty more to learn, but the process is not too complex. I will note a few things. I had already set-up digital modes, that is, my radio was talking to my computer via CAT, that's Computer Assisted Tuning, essentially a serial connection that controls the radio and the audio was already being sent and received from the rear connector of my radio. Getting SSTV running was really an extension on those activities, so if you're going to do this, take some time to make things work. I continue to recommend that you start with WSJT-X since it helps you get your levels and connections right. Now I suppose I should start playing with SSTV over HF, but first I would like to figure out how to make the templates work better for me and how to actually seriously log an actual contact. More adventures ahead! Remember, have fun, play, get on air and make noise! I'm Onno VK6FLAB
ITSPmagazine Conversations At the Intersection of Technology, Cybersecurity, and Society. The Unusual Gatherings Talk Show A few years ago, we decided to set up camp at a crossroads where people from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures, and professions happen to walk by. We invite them to stop, rest a bit, and join our conversations — most of them gladly do. We call these encounters Unusual Gatherings. Co-Host: Dr. Jonathan Reichental, Author of 'Smart Cities for Dummies' and Former CIO of the City of Palo Alto Guest: Gil Friend, Author of 'The Truth About Green Business' and 'The Green Business Field Guide' and the First Chief Sustainability Officer at the City of Palo Alto Hosts: Sean Martin | Marco Ciappelli Reverse Engineering The Future To Create The Businesses, Communities, Planet, And Life We Want Regardless of a project's scope, there is always an excellent strategy to evaluate feasibility and strategy to accomplish it: Reverse Engineering. Our guest today draws upon the 1969 NASA Apollo 11 moon mission, suggesting that we should always start with the end result we want, and not the one we think is "possible." If we can envision what that looks like as if it was actually completed successfully, we can act by reverse engineering that result, working back to the starting points of definition, design, and planning. With this model, the impossibilities don't magically disappear, but they do surface in a way that can be seen and contextualized in a manner that allows us to measure and value each milestone as we deal with it. By working backward, roadblocks can be removed to ensure the previous steps can arrive in a safe place that has already been prepared for success. From building a simple mobile app to creating a valuable business, a smart connected community, city, or planet, if our goal is an environment where humanity can thrive safely and sustainably, then we should look up at the sky, and reverse engineer that vision to make it happen. Because we must, we can, and we should. “What do we really care about? What's the world that will enrich us and have us thrive? What does that look like? And then ask the question, how do we get there? And then ask the question, how do we do that with the least trade-off? I think the thinking stack has to be flipped and done in a different way.” — Gil Friend “In the private sector, as Gil so well articulated, it's about maximizing value and giving the biggest return back to the shareholders. That not the the motivation of a city, although it’s analogous with, perhaps, giving value to the community. You're trying to take tax dollars and give back in a way that optimizes that.” —Jonathan Reichental Enjoy this conversation and share your thoughts with us. __________________________________ For more Unusual Gatherings: www.itspmagazine.com/unusual-gatherings __________ Interested in sponsoring an ITSPmagazine Channel? The unidentified flying object (UFO) was photographed over Palm Springs, California, prompting claims of an alien craft in the skies. According to self-described UFO expert Scott C Waring, the UFO may have come from the highly classified US Air Force base known as Area 51. Area 51 has been at the heart of many UFO stories and alien conspiracy theories, including the 1947 Roswell incident. Mr Waring said on his blog ET Data Base: "This UFO was seen over Palm Springs, California this week. "The object was only seen for a few seconds. "It's located on far southern California so it's mostly rocky desert. "This is one of the prime areas that UFOs will be seen from Area S4, which is inside Area 51." The UFO photo was originally shared to MUFON or the Mutual UFO Network by an eyewitness on May 24. The photo appears to show a blurry, grey object flying far behind a power transformer seen in the foreground. According to the original eyewitness statement, the UFO appeared and disappeared "in a blink of the eye". The eyewitness said the object was tic tac-shaped with appendages. The UFO also disappeared as soon as its photo was taken. California is home to more military installations than any other state, with a total of 32. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and National Guard/Reserve bases are located across California. The Army and the Air Force make up more than 75 percent of the manpower in Alaska at the Fort Wainwright, Fort Greely, and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Most of the training operations prepare service members for operating in inhospitable winter climates whether on the ground or in the air. Ohio's Wright Patterson Air Force Base is one of the Air Force's largest and most important installations. It is home to the world's first operational airfield. UFO sighting: Alien spaceship spotted in NASA Apollo 9 mission – claim Link: https://www.express.co.uk/news/weird/1286594/ufo-sighting-alien-spaceship-nasa-apollo-9-ufos-aliens-news ALIEN enthusiasts believe they have spotted a UFO in the clouds in images from NASA's historic Apollo 9 mission. Apollo 9 saw three NASA astronauts blasted into the Earth's orbit for 10 days as a test flight before the Apollo 11 mission, which saw the first people land on the Moon. Commander James McDivitt, Command Module Pilot David Scott, and Lunar Module Pilot Rusty Schweickart lifted off from Earth on March 3, 1969, before spending 10 days in orbit, completing 151 trips around Earth. The three men landed back on Earth on March 13, just four months before the Apollo 11 mission set off for the Moon. Prominent conspiracy theorist Scott C Waring has been analysing the images from the NASA astronauts and believes he has found a UFO which is "100 percent" proof of aliens. Mr Waring wrote on his blog ET Database: "I found a triangle UFO in an old Apollo 9 mission photo. The module was flying directly over Arizona at the time and this triangle UFO was seen in the clouds below. "The triangle looks dark brown. The object is blurry at an equal pace as that of the clouds and other objects [sic ]in the picture. "Had this been 100 percent focused and the clouds blurry, then we would know its not real, but thats not how it is here. "The UFO and the other things in the photo have the same focus which tells us its 100 percent real." This Math Formula Has Determined the Odds of Aliens Existing Link: https://www.popularmechanics.com/science/a32603529/math-formula-aliens-exist/ David Kipping leads, yes, the Cool Worlds Laboratory at Columbia University. In an explainer video (below), he describes some background for the question of intelligent life in the universe and concludes, “I've never been much for faith—I want an answer.” Kipping mentions the changing trends over centuries of human imagination: Basically, as soon as people realized what they saw in the sky included other planets, they began to wonder if other planets had intelligent life. An underdeveloped instrument caused astronomers to see “manmade” canals on the surface of Mars during the 1800s. Turn to Bayesian (bei·Zhn) analysis, a way of using what we do know to extrapolate what we don't. And to do that, Kipping put Earth's long history on a replay loop. The squeeze here is whether or not that life would eventually evolve intelligence. Instead of 3:1, the odds are just 3:2, meaning three of every five reruns with life would become intelligent life. So overall, that means a 75 percent probability of life and 60 percent likelihood of intelligence, for an overall probability of 45 percent. If the Bayesian analysis is right, that means even for Earth to be itself was the probabilistic minority. But it's still a more concrete argument for the existence of life on Earthlike planets around the universe. “Overall, our work supports an optimistic outlook for future searches for biosignatures,” the paper explains. With the 50th anniversary of humans landing on the moon during the NASA Apollo missions, where does humanity go next? Back to the moon? To Mars? Should we risk sending humans to space or let the robots handle it? These are a few of the issues we tackle in our conversation with Dr. Leslie Wickman. Dr. Wickman heads up the Christian faith/science group the American Scientific Affiliation (ASA) and is also a research scientist, engineering consultant, author, speaker and athlete. She was an engineer for Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space, where she worked on NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and International Space Station Programs, receiving commendations from NASA for her contributions and being designated as Lockheed's Corporate Astronaut and earned the nickname "Rocket Girl.” Dr. Wickman is a Professor of Aerospace-Industrial-Mechanical Engineering at California Baptist University and is also continues to teach at Azusa Pacific University. Rod Pyle is a space historian who has worked with NASA at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Johnson Space Center. He has written ten books on the history and technology of space exploration and science for major publishers in the US, UK and Asia, including Mars: Making Contact (Sterling Books), Blueprint for a Battlestar (Andre Deutsch) and Amazing Stories of the Space Age (Prometheus Books), all due in 2016. His newest book, Space 2.0: The New Space Age will debut in 2017 .Acclaimed science author Rod Pyle (Missions to the Moon) returns with a beautiful and insightful book commemorating Apollo 11. First on the Moon offers an exciting behind-the-scenes look at America’s journey to the Moon—from the space race to the landing on the Sea of Tranquility to splashdown on Earth and the aftermath. Pyle spent years combing NASA archives and private collections for memorabilia from the mission, and the book includes everything from accessible explanations of the enormous challenges facing NASA to reproductions of original 1969 documents. It also features a number of specially commissioned photocompositions created from NASA Apollo images released in 2015. Many were parts of photomontages taken by the astronauts, and these compositions have now been carefully restored to their originally intended montage formats. With compelling firsthand accounts and a gripping narrative, this gorgeously designed volume fully immerses readers in the Space Age. Includes a foreword by Buzz Aldrin, and exclusive interviews with the adult children of the Apollo 11 astronauts See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Shocking UFO sighting above US Navy base in the California desert raises the possibility of alien visitors Link: http://www.mirror.co.uk/science/shocking-ufo-sighting-above-navy-11517563 These stunning pictures appear to show an alien spacecraft hovering in the air over the desert and have been seized upon by the UFO community. They were taken by a man using the pseudonym "Keith Bradshaw", who says he went out to the desert near the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake in California after being told about the craft by a friend. He snapped the pictures in 2007 - but says he has been too nervous to show them until now. He provided the pictures to 54-year-old UFO sleuth Philip Mantle, who says he hasn't seen anything like this in over 40 years of research. Mr Mantle has described them as "the most controversial UFO photos on record" and adds experts are unable to agree if the photographs area UFO IN NASA MOON IMAGE? The source, perhaps less romantically, turned out to be ICB missile tests. At the time, some sources interviewed for The Siberian Times expressed concern that the impressive display was rooted in alien activity or “a gap in the space-time continuum” rather than a military exercise. A U.K.-based site reported directly on an online video observing that a perfectly triangular dent had been found on the surface of the moon. The video goes on to make the claim that the photographs of a small dent in the surface of the moon could be “providing cover for existing bases” for extraterrestrial creatures. Another outlet published a story raising the possibility that the Black Knight Satellite had been spotted in images taken by NASA Apollo 16. Something of a Loch Ness Monster of outer space, the Black Knight Satellite has been purportedly “spotted” many times over the years with little if anything to back it up. Emmy-Winner Michael Emerson Boards Arrow for S6 (Date: 22 July 2017) a. Emmy Award-winner Michael Emerson has joined the cast of Arrow for the series' sixth season, as revealed at a panel for the DC Comics-based series at Comic-Con International in San Diego. The Lost alum will board the series in a recurring capacity; he will play a member of a villainous cabal. Additionally, it was confirmed David Nykl (who plays Oliver Queen's friend/mentor/nemesis, Anatoly Knyazev) will return to the series. b. http://www.cbr.com/michael-emerson-cast-arrow-season-6/ 2. Arrow Showrunner Addresses Olicity In Season 6 (Date: 24 July 2017) a. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim said during an interview at Comic Con International with Comicbook, “I'm going to give a very unsatisfying answer to the Olicity fans, which is that we sort of set Oliver and Felicity on a certain trajectory starting with 520, and you saw a little bit of it in 523. We're continuing it. I will say that the events of the finale did throw a little bit of a wrench into their slow rekindling of their relationship.” b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/24/arrow-olicity-season-6/ 3. Spoiler Room: Scoop on Game of Thrones, Arrow, Westworld, and more (Date: 20 July 2017) a. Do you have any scoop on the new villain (or villains) on Arrow next season? — Here's a little teaser: “As usual, every season we want to try to up the stakes and do something different,” EP Wendy Mericle tells me. “This will be something we've never seen before. The villain will be hopefully as dynamic and as interesting as the ones we've had in the past. These people, or this person, won't just be somebody that's a thorn in Oliver's side, but it'll effect the whole team personally and very directly.” Could Cayden James and Helix be the culprits she speaks of? “You never know,” Mericle says. “They are still in the wind. We don't like to leave those threads dangling.” b. http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/20/spoiler-room-game-thrones-arrow-westworld/ 4. One Fan-Favorite Arrow Character Will Receive Flashbacks In Season 6 (Date: 26 July 2017) a. Marc Guggenheim has revealed that a fan-favorite character will receive flashbacks for the very first time in Season 6. In an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, Guggenheim had this to say about Season 6, “You're gonna still see flashbacks. It won't be every episode and it won't be serialized. They'll be character specific and I'll give you one example... as you saw in the trailer Manu Bennett is back for the season premiere and he's also coming back for a special two-part episode in the first half of the season where we're really going to be focusing hard on his character, post everything he's experienced on the show and we intend to do a Slade Wilson flashback story.” b. http://www.cinemablend.com/television/1685200/one-fan-favorite-arrow-character-will-receive-flashbacks-in-season-6 5. The Arrow season 6 trailer reveals that Slade made it off Lian Yu before Prometheus' trap could blast him to smithereens. But what about Diggle, Felicity and the rest of Team Arrow? There's was no sign of any of the regulars Arrow fans have come to know and love over the course of five seasons. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/arrow/arrow-season-6-sdcc-17-trailer-finds-oliver-queen-in-a-brand-new-role-a152758 6. Arrow Showrunner Says Richard Dragon Will Be Grounded Crime Lord (Date: 25 July 2017) a. Richard Dragon, one of the last major Green Arrow villains yet to appear on Arrow, is coming in season six -- and he will be different from the series' other big bads, according to series executive producer Marc Guggenheim. "You know, what I really like about our interpretation of Richard is, he's very grounded," Guggenheim said. "He's not a flamboyant big bad, he doesn't wear a costume, he really is a crimelord sort of in the Tobias Church model. For Tobias we only really saw him for about five episodes, so we were excited about th prospect of doing a cool, gritty crime lord, but for a longer period of time. We've never really done that on the show before, so it's different." b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/25/arrow-showrunner-says-richard-dragon-will-be-grounded-crime-lord/ GENERAL DC TV NEWS 1. Legends of Tomorrow: Sara's Season 3 Love Interest is a New Character (Date: 25 July 2017) a. Love is in the air for Waverider captain Sara Lance. When the character returns in Legends of Tomorrow Season 3, she will find herself embroiled in a new romance. On Twitter, executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed that this romance will be with a new character. Guggenheim and fellow executive producer Phil Klemmer revealed that Sara will get a new love interest at Comic-Con International's Legends of Tomorrow panel. “It's definitely time for Sara to settle down, or at least have a relationship that's more than a roll in the hay. It's hard when you're travelling through time,” Klemmer announced. “It's definitely been a priority of ours to re-establish Sara's bisexuality in Season 3,” Guggenheim added. “It's a big, important thing for us this year.” b. http://www.cbr.com/legends-of-tomorrow-sara-love-interest-new-character/ 2. The Flash: Tom Felton not returning as series regular (Date 25 July 2017) a. At the close of season 3, Julian was still a member of Team Flash, but with Barry now trapped in the Speed Force, and the show jumping ahead at least six months, it appears that Julian has left the team. The character was missing from the new season 4 footage in the recently released trailer, which was shown at Comic-Con, an event the Harry Potter alum also didn't attend. As of yet, Felton has not booked a return to the show, but as with all actors in the Berlanti-verse, there's a chance we could see Felton again if it makes sense for the story and his scheduling permits it. b. http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/25/flash-tom-felton-not-returning-season-4/?utm_campaign=entertainmentweekly&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&xid=entertainment-weekly_socialflow_twitter 3. THE FLASH Season 4 Casts The Thinker; Danny Trejo And More Join As Key DC Comics Characters (Date 23 July 2017) a. Neil Sandilands (The 100) is set to take on the role of Clifford Devoe/The Thinker, a metahuman with a mega mind who embarks on a season-long battle with The Flash that pits the "fastest man alive" against the "fastest mind alive." Danny Trejo (Machete) is Breacher, a feared bounty hunter from Earth-19 and the imposing father of inter-dimensional bounty hunter Gypsy. His mission is to prevent any inter-dimensional traveller from threatening life on his planet — especially his daughter's. Kim Engelbrecht (Dominion) is The Mechanic, a highly intelligent engineer who designs devices for Devoe. As Devoe's right hand, she's the truest of true believers who'll stop at nothing to help him implement his plan to fix humanity. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/the_flash/the-flash-season-4-casts-the-thinker-danny-trejo-and-more-join-as-key-dc-comics-characters-a152752 4. The Flash Gets a New Suit in Season 4 Set Photo (Date 29 July 2017) a. Set photos captured by YVRShoots.com show Gustin on set during July 28th, wearing what appears to be a new Flash suit. This comes after Gustin shared a photo of part of the suit on Instagram, and spoke about his desire for a new costume during an interview with ComicBook.com at San Diego Comic-Con. Interestingly, the suit is appears to be almost identical to the suit worn by the 2024 version of Barry Allen, which was briefly seen in last season's 'The Once and Future Flash'. b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/29/the-flash-season-4-new-suit-barry-allen-grant-gustin/ 5. SUPERGIRL Season 3 Trailer Released; Calista Flockhart Set To Recur & Four New Cast Additions Announced (Date 22 July 2017) a. The CW has confirmed that Calista Flockhart will return for Supergirl season three and it sounds like she'll be popping in a lot more frequently this time around as she's secured recurring status. She'll first appear in the season premiere on October 9. Additionally, Adrian Pasdar, Carl Lumbly, Yael Grobglas, and Emma Tremblay have all joined the cast. Pasdar will play Morgan Edge, a ruthless real estate developer who will find himself at odds with Lena Luthor. Lumbly will play J'onn's father M'yrnn J'onzz, a pacifist religious leader on Mars. Grobglas will play Psi, a psychic villain who uses people's minds against them. Tremblay will play Ruby, a smart kid who's fascination with Supergirl lands her in serious trouble. The official season three trailer gives us our first look at Odette Annable as Reign and Erica Durance as Alura Zor-El. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/supergirl/supergirl-season-3-trailer-released-calista-flockhart-set-to-recur-four-new-cast-additions-announced-a152739 6. LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Season 3 Trailer Released; Both Captain Cold & Damien Darhk Will Return (Date 22 July 2017) a. The CW announced today that both Wentworth Miller and Neal McDonough will reprise their roles as Captain Cold and Damien Darhk, respectively, on the upcoming third season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Miller will actually return in a recurring capacity, but he won't exactly be the Leonard Snart we came to know and love in seasons one and two. He'll instead be playing a brand new version of fan-favorite character, which should lead to some interesting interactions between him and Mick. During the panel, executive producer Phil Klemmer teased, “Mick Rory needs his pal, but unfortunately he's not going to get the version of his pal that he remembers.” Meanwhile, McDonough will be upped to a series regular and will also come with his own, more dangerous, changes. "We'll be meeting a new version of Damien Darhk, a little less silly, a little more formidable." Arthur Darvill will also be back as Rip Hunter, but in a recurring role, and it sounds like he'll be coming into conflict with his former teammates. “Last season, the Legends were the only game in town,” Klemmer said. “Now they're competing with the best and brightest. Rip Hunter has reconstituted what the Time Masters were, so the existential question for the Legends is where do we fit into this universe?” As for new additions, a new villain will arise in the form of Kuasa, Vixen's granddaughter. Tala Ashe will also join the Waverider crew as Zari Adrianna Tomaz, a Muslim-American woman from 2030. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/legends_of_tomorrow/legends-of-tomorrow-season-3-trailer-released-both-captain-cold-damien-darhk-will-return-a152743 7. Spoiler Room: Scoop on Supergirl, Once Upon a Time, Defenders, and more (Date 27 July 2017) a. Is there any chance Alura is actually still alive on Supergirl? — With Erica Durance joining the show in a recast of Alura, EW pressed new showrunners Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner for answers at Comic-Con. “Shrouded in mystery, those questions,” Queller said coyly. Rovner added: “We wanted to keep Alura's presence on the show because it really connects Kara to Krypton and her roots and what it meant to see her family and her planet destroyed. It's an emotional grounding that's always important.” However, there's a good chance Mon-El ended up in the Phantom Zone — you know, the same Kryptonian prison that Alura had a hand in sending criminals to, so what if she escaped the destruction of Krypton and ended up there herself? Another dodge from the EPs: “Where Mon-El is and how he comes back is the central mystery of our season,” Queller said. “But the theme of this season is what does it mean to be human? Kara is going to be especially grappling with that, and all of the characters are. The loss of her family and Krypton impacts that a lot. The mother-daughter relationship is something we still want to explore in whatever fashion.” b. http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/27/spoiler-room-supergirl-once-upon-time-defenders/ 8. THE FLASH Star Grant Gustin Says It's The Show's Goal To Adapt CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS (Date 25 July 2017) a. Speaking to ComicBook at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Grant Gustin confirmed that while it's still a long time from happening, it's been the goal to eventually adapt Crisis on Infinite Earths on the show . "We don't really talk about it on a yearly basis but it was mentioned early on and that's a goal. Obviously we'd have to go I think ten years to reach that, so there's a possibility for sure. It'll be fun to get there." The massive multiverse event saw the collapse of multiple parallel universes, along with the "death" of The Flash himself. The story has been hinted at since the pilot episode of the show, where the Reverse Flash views a newspaper headline from the future stating that The Flash has "vanished in a crisis". Showrunner Todd Helbing also spoke to CB about the upcoming season 4, which he promised will be "fun" again after the "doom and gloom" of season 3. "Last year, once we showed Iris die in the future, to keep up that doom and gloom, it becomes a burden, and not just on us writing-wise, on the show and it just sort of had this pall over the season that I think we didn't expect to be so heavy;” there is “a conscious effort of ours to really go back to everybody enjoyed being on this team and with each other, and make The Flash have fun again.” b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/the_flash/the-flash-star-grant-gustin-says-its-the-shows-goal-to-adapt-crisis-on-infinite-earths-a152832 9. THE FLASH Is Reborn In The Official Comic-Con Trailer For The Upcoming Fourth Season (Date 22 July 2017) a. For the first time since the series' inception, a new character is taking on the voiceover and she doesn't sound quite like her usual hopeful self as the months without Barry have taken a serious toll on her. The new trailer also teases new villains, including a very interesting looking Samurai and a few returning faces. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/the_flash/the-flash-is-reborn-in-the-official-comic-con-trailer-for-the-upcoming-fourth-season-a152748 10. The Flash's Grant Gustin Says Speed Force Will Change Barry (Date 25 July 2017) a. “We're not necessarily going to see Barry's experience in the Speed Force. We'll see kind of the effects that the Speed Force has had on Barry, and he's been in there six months real-time,” Gustin started. “I suspect the Speed Force is kind of nonlinear with time, so Barry has experienced his entire life from star to end infinity times over since he's been in there. It's almost like a fresh start for me as an actor.” b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/25/the-flash-speed-force-grant-gustin/ 11. Legends of Tomorrow Announces Tracy Ifeachor as S3 Villain (Date 26 July 2017) a. DC's Legends of Tomorrow will get mighty personal for Vixen in Season 3. During the show's panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Kuasa — the sister of Mari McCabe's Vixen — was announced as a villain for the upcoming season. Now, we can put a face to the name. Quantico star Tracy Ifeachor will play the character. Since Kuasa is Mari's sister, that also makes her the granddaughter of Amaya, who is slated to be a main character in Legends Season 3. At SDCC, executive producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed that the two will cross paths at some point this season, saying, “We're looking forward to the inevitable confrontation between Maisie [Richardson-Sellers]'s character and her granddaughter.” b. http://www.cbr.com/legends-of-tomorrow-kuasa-tracy-ifeachor/ 12. The Flash Season 4 Set Photos Show New Female Villain (Date 29 July 2017) a. YVRShoots.com recently shared pictures of The Flash's newest foe, who will reportedly appear the third episode of the season, entitled 'Luck Me a Lady.' In one set of photos, an actress is robbing a bank in a red dress, while other photos show the same actress running after a bus in a rather noteworthy casino outfit. Fans were quick to recognize the casino dealer outfit as that belonging to the DC Comics villain Becky Sharpe, a.k.a. Hazard. Hazard has appeared throughout the DC Comics mythos as a member of the Injustice Society, and was the granddaughter of the original Gambler. The antagonist is bestowed with psionic powers, which allow her to cause good or bad "accidents" to her foes. b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/29/the-flash-set-photos-show-new-female-villain/ ARROW CAST AND CREW INTERVIEWS 1. During a Comic Con Interview with Arrow's leading lady Emily Bett Rickards, we were joined by series regular Echo Kellum, who brought out Rickards's playful side. Rather than trying to finish our interview with Rickards and pull one or both of them back on track, we went with the more entertaining option of egging them on, asking among other things: "Can you tell me more about 'sexy threats?'" b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/28/arrows-emily-bett-rickards-and-echo-kellum-explain-sexy-threats/ NEXT EPISODE Link to Promo: (Date: 08 March 2017) https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/legends_of_tomorrow/legends-of-tomorrow-new-extended-promo-for-season-2-episode-14-moonshot-a149472 Episode: “Moonshot” [Season 2 Episode 14] Air Date: Tuesday, March 14, 2017 Summary: The Legends learn where the last fragment of the Spear of Destiny is hidden when they track Commander Steel to NASA Headquarters in 1970.
