This very special episode of features one of Justin's good friends, Todd Bumgardner. This episode is special for so many reasons:1. Todd is our first guest not located in New Jersey. Todd is the co-CEO of Beyond Strength Performance in Virginia and is the CEO of Strength Faction.2. Todd just published a book called "Let The First Rep Suck: The Art of Unconditionally Positive Fitness Coaching." You can purchase Todd's book here: https://www.amazon.com/Let-First-Rep-Suck-Unconditionally/dp/0578615843/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=let+the+first+rep+suck&qid=1581971644&sr=8-13. The most important reason this episode is so special: all proceeds from the book sales are being donated directly to fund NBIA MPAN Research done by Children's National Hospital in Washington D.C.Todd's spent the last year and a half training Ryan Alam, a great sixteen-year old fella from Stirling, Virginia.Ryan has a rare degenerative brain condition called NBIA MPAN. There is no cure for the disease and it's so rare that there's no funding for research. Over the past year, Todd and Ryan's mother, Tuba, and a lot of good people have worked hard to raise money to get the research started. However, this is only the beginning. A lot of money is still needed to fund the research that could save Ryan's life, and others afflicted with this disease. To help support this cause, Todd's book can be purchased here: https://www.amazon.com/Let-First-Rep-Suck-Unconditionally/dp/0578615843/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=let+the+first+rep+suck&qid=1581971644&sr=8-1Todd goes into detail about the book, what NBIA MPAN is and his relationship with Ryan, and more in this episode of the Stay Healthy New Jersey podcast.

This Week I'm joined by my good friend Todd Bumgardner. Todd is a U.S-based Strength Coach, Co-Owner of Beyond Strength Performance and Founder of Strength Faction, a fantastic Education resource for Coaches. . This is Todd's second appearance on the Podcast and this episode we discussed a subject that I saw Todd present on in-person last year, The Art of Aggregation. , In this Episode Todd discusses: . What the Art of Aggregation is, why asking more questions and being a problem solver is so important and the dangers of being an ideologist. . Why we should all look into the ideas, questions and concepts that make us feel uncomfortable and the importance of seeking answers with an open mind. . The dangers of Ego, Identity and being incentivised financially. . The power of setting yourself a Weekly problem or idea to play with and how to create your own flow state to enhance your thought process. . Why, when faced with a problem, taking action is usually our greatest approach. . As expected, Todd provides a tonne of great information in this episode so have a pen and paper to hand. This episode may come across as just one for Coaches but the Art of Aggregation is how we should approach every problem, issue or question we have in our life. It's about enhancing our knowledge base, being able to understand a subject and filter out the bullshit, learning how to integrate our proposed solution to our problem and then, if successful, aggregating it into our life/business systems. . This week I'm joined by U.S-based Strength Coach Chris Merritt. Chris is the Owner of Beyond Strength Performance and the Co-Founder of Strength Faction. We start the episode off by learning how Chris got to where he is today and why Subway caused Chris to become a Coach (True Story!) Chris then dives right into the topic of why you're not a unique snowflake, how this concept applies to Training and Nutrition and why subtle tweaks with your programming are sometimes all that is required to create a very different result. We then look into why Chris utilises a "Seasons of Lifting" approach with his programming and how it can be used to great success, not only to achieve your goals, but to keep you motivated to train and to accommodate the Lifestyle changes that occur season to season. Having experienced Chris' coaching in person he and his Coaches at BSP have an incredible way of reaching each and every one of their clients. Chris walks us step by step through his Gym's entire Client consultation process and Client goal setting starting from the moment the client enters the building - If you are a Gym Owner or a Coach have a pen and paper ready for this, Chris is about to revolutionise your initial interaction/consultation with a Client. *In this section Chris mentions a Client goal setting process he refers to as "so that" statements - Chris wanted to give full credit for this idea to Tony Giuliano. I know Chris is a big reader (I get most of my Book recommendations from him) so to finish off the episode I ask Chris why 2 books, The Perfect Day Formula and The Slight Edge, have been so impactful to him and how he utilises their concepts with not only himself, but also his Clients to help them be successful and achieve their goals. Chris is an incredibly knowledge Coach, but more important than that he has an incredible way to break that knowledge down to its simplest terms and make it instantly understandable. Whether you're a Coach, Gym Owner or Fitness Enthusiast there are some big takeaways for everybody in this episode.
