Difficult training weeks are a part of the fitness process. You might curse your coach and everyone who's ever loved them while you're in the thick of hard a session, but we need those sessions to push ourselves forward. The rub is that we must be smart about how we approach them. But the good news is with a few tactics and skills, you can nail difficult training weeks and get the full benefit of all that sweat and strain. And all that cursing won't be for nothin'. We all want to see the fruits of our labor, right? Why would we do anything, other than something that's purely pleasurable, if we can't eventually note measurable progress? Well, unless we are seeing measurable results, or we're getting some kind of pleasure, we typically stop doing the thing. So, we need to give ourselves reasons to keep doing the thing. Fitness progress can feel slow because, well, sometimes it is. However, sometimes you're making progress and you don't realize it because you just don't know how to measure it. That's especially true of progress with conditioning, particularly low and slow aerobic conditioning – something that we all need. In today's episode, we'll outline a handful of ways that you can track your fitness progress to help you stay the course and also deepen your understanding of conditioning progress. Growing up, our speaker narrates how hard life was for him when he was young. But, despite the hardships he had gone through he had this optimism inside him which led to his success. He explains in detail the importance of execution and not just having the knowledge. He also elaborates the importance of working on skills like awareness and compartmentalization, he also goes deep regarding finding your niche and finding your space in the market. 7:06-7:38 Climbing from the bottom "I'm all for suffering for your art and climbing the ladder and taking the pain and using everything but you know i grew as a poor kid from Central Pennsylvania and i was kinda sick of being poor i didn't wanna keep doing that so i said well I'd rather jump in to the private sector and go where i could start to make some money and eventually i realized that i have a entrepreneurial bug and i can build my own businesses and do things the way i want to do them and also make a good living while i do this." -Todd Baumgardner 8:31-8:41 Inspired to be Better "I have this drive to continually get better and to figure out new ways to do things in better ways to do things and I have this sometimes maybe annoying optimism where it's like oh well I'll figure it out." -Todd Baumgardner 22:27-22:58 Just keep Training "The loading parameters are going to be relatively the same. You might have to scale back the amount for some people wherever they might be. You just need to put them into positions they need to be and then you let them train. I think we went through a period in the industry where movement stuff are very popular and i that's still important but you just have to evaluate movement and we have to train movements but i think people way over emphasize that and it made people think that "we have to write these special things for every person like they're gonna break" and like no people just need to train that's how they don't break." -Todd Baumgardner 31:22-31:32 Proper Delegation "One of the biggest challenges I think for the people that are entrepreneurial is beginning to figure out the skill of delegating and making sure that people are in positions to do jobs better than you can do it." -Todd Baumgardner 37:02-37:20 Learning better through Experience "Everybody reads these same damn books and like it doesn't matter because you don't do anything with it. I think it's really discerning to understand how to learn, what you need to learn and use that to create experiential knowledge because just because you read it in a book and you can recite it doesn't mean you know a damn thing about it." -Todd Baumgardner 45:06-45:25 A Go-To Place "First of all what we're really good at doing is making guesses about the future and what we're really good at is being wrong about the future. I think that that's being human. But I don't ever foresee people not wanting human connection and I think that people always wanna have a gym to go to." -Todd Baumgardner 45:43-46:05 Talking about your future "the industry is gonna grow and i think there's gonna be a lot of options and so you're gonna have to be more specific in who you wanna train and really really talk to them or you're not wait through the noise because of everything that's on social media whatever new social media platforms might come out i think you need to speak right to the person you wanna work with. There's nothing different from that now. I think it's going to continue to be the same in the future. -Todd Baumgardner 55:15-55:59 Improving Execution "being able to pull people back away from "alright i feel a certain way does that stop me from executing?", or just drawing compartmentalization into like "were gonna focus on each rep individually" because if you start thinking about the end, you're gonna have a really bad time and just also, you know what i mean. Working on skills like awareness and compartmentalization and other mental skills that plan to be successful in our environment but also outside of our environment, and so that's really the main way that we do that. Because you know, anybody can go through suffer through something hard, i mean not anybody can do it but you can go do something horribly well, but like do you how to do that and regulate yourself. Like that is more of what we focus on." -Todd Baumgardner

This week is a milestone episode, it's my 50th Guest. As this episode meant a lot to me I brought back my good friend and phenomenal coach, Todd Bumgardner. Todd is a big reason I am where I'm at today. He's had a huge impact on my life and career through education, support, friendship and helped me overcome crippling imposter syndrome so getting to celebrate the 50th episode with him was special for me.In this Episode Todd and I discuss:- How he helps clients and trainers develop their vision and goal setting abilities to maximise success and results.- The importance of starting where you're at often with very short term goals and building over time to longer goals spread over 1-5 years.- Why defining your heaven and hell when goal setting is so important and how to go through the process.- The importance and value of having a life, experiences and learning outside of just fitness.- Why some folks need to stop bullshitting themselves when it comes to self-love and how the act of self-love has become misunderstood. As this was the 50th episode, Todd and I wanted to finish it on a high, or at least a few laughs, so we finished off the episode in inappropriate style by played a quick couple of games of would you rather as well.If you've listen to either of Todd's previous episodes you'll know just how smart and articulate he is with his Coaching concepts and thoughts. This episode is no different. Todd crushes it.Episode featuring of discussion on the table of stable growth:https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-empowered-body-podcast-w-todd-bumgardner/id1359912988?i=1000410726442&mt=2

This Week I'm joined by my good friend Todd Bumgardner. Todd is a U.S-based Strength Coach, Co-Owner of Beyond Strength Performance and Founder of Strength Faction, a fantastic Education resource for Coaches. . This is Todd's second appearance on the Podcast and this episode we discussed a subject that I saw Todd present on in-person last year, The Art of Aggregation. , In this Episode Todd discusses: . What the Art of Aggregation is, why asking more questions and being a problem solver is so important and the dangers of being an ideologist. . Why we should all look into the ideas, questions and concepts that make us feel uncomfortable and the importance of seeking answers with an open mind. . The dangers of Ego, Identity and being incentivised financially. . The power of setting yourself a Weekly problem or idea to play with and how to create your own flow state to enhance your thought process. . Why, when faced with a problem, taking action is usually our greatest approach. . As expected, Todd provides a tonne of great information in this episode so have a pen and paper to hand. This episode may come across as just one for Coaches but the Art of Aggregation is how we should approach every problem, issue or question we have in our life. It's about enhancing our knowledge base, being able to understand a subject and filter out the bullshit, learning how to integrate our proposed solution to our problem and then, if successful, aggregating it into our life/business systems. .
