The New York Knicks just ended a 53-year championship drought. And Norense was in a Brooklyn bar watching strangers from every culture, background, and walk of life — hugging, crying, screaming, and celebrating together. And God used an orange basketball to teach him something about isolation, community, and why the enemy's greatest weapon isn't your past. It's getting you alone. This episode is a raw, unscripted download from Brooklyn — part testimony, part teaching, part real talk — about what happens when you stop hiding behind the pressure to have it all figured out and start actually doing life with people. From church hurt after losing his sister, to being moved to tears by a stranger who saw him clearly, to watching Jalen Brunson silence every doubter — Norense weaves it all together into one central truth: you were never meant to do this alone. In this episode:Why the enemy's greatest strategy is isolation — and how shame, hurt, and "I'm good" keep you locked in itWhat the Knicks' championship run teaches about being counted out, staying the course, and proving doubters wrong without making it about themThe danger of pseudo-vulnerability — saying how you feel without the facts to face your fightWhy "feeling, feeling, feeling" without healing is just a cycle — and how to actually break itWhat church hurt looks like, why it's real, and how to not let it become a reason to isolate from community entirelyWhy being annoyingly curious about other people is one of the most powerful spiritual practices you haveA live testimony of being prayed over by a stranger who saw him — and breaking down in tears because God used her to say I see youKey Truth: "The enemy fights in isolation. There's no condemnation in Christ Jesus — so step in, show up, and stop letting shame keep you small."Key Verse: Hebrews 10:25 — Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another. If this episode hit you:Rate and review the Mind Bully Podcast — it helps more homes and hearts find this message.

In one single Sunday, Norense encountered four different people — at church, after service, and late that night — all wrestling with the same thing: negative thoughts, anxiety, suicidal ideation, betrayal, and the feeling that the enemy had the upper hand. And then he hit record. This is an emergency episode. Raw, unscripted, and delivered straight from a living room in Brooklyn — because the mind bully is real, it's active, and it doesn't take Sundays off.Norense opens with a full prayer, walks through his own week — a broken camera, a gaslighting friendship, a heavy heart walking into church — and then unpacks the spiritual mechanics behind every intrusive thought, every wave of apathy, and every whisper that says it's over. He doesn't just offer comfort. He gives you the tools to fight back.In this episode:Why the enemy doesn't come with new tricks — just the same ones: self-doubt, shame, fear, and apathyThe honest duality of faith — how you can feel audacious and anxious, joyful and broken, at the exact same timeWhat gaslighting looks like in a friendship — and how to forgive without lowering your standard for who gets access to youWhy suicidal ideation is a lie from the pit of hell — and what God's Word actually says about who you areThe spiritual mechanics of resisting the devil — why he doesn't have to flee if you're not actively submitting to the WordWhy the Bible reads you — and how to let scripture speak before you run to commentary or ChatGPTA live account of being used by God to speak into a stranger's life — even while carrying a heavy heart of your ownKey Truth: "Healing happens when we walk into the room — because Mr. Healing himself lives on the inside of us."Key Verse: James 4:7 — Submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.⚠️ A note: If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.If this episode hit you:Rate and review the Mind Bully Podcast — it gets this message into more homes and hearts that need it most.

Mentally Stronger with Therapist Amy Morin
322 — This 60-Second Mental Strength Play Will Help You Stop Procrastinating (And It Doesn't Require Willpower)

Want more mental strength plays? Pick up a copy of The Mental Strength Playbook. Do you procrastinate more than you'd like to admit? You've probably told yourself the problem is willpower, motivation, or self-discipline. But, procrastination usually has nothing to do with those things. It has to do with trying to avoid an uncomfortable feeling. Fortunately, there's a simple mental strength play that can help you start taking action fast. And the best news is, in less than a minute you can get yourself working on that project. It's backed by science and it can help you get moving on those tasks you dread. Some of the things I talk about are: Why calling yourself "lazy" or "undisciplined" is the exact story that keeps you stuck—and what's really driving your procrastination. How dread quietly turns a small task into a huge source of dread. Why procrastination thrives in isolation. The "Text a Motivation Buddy" play—and how I used it to finally edit the section of my book I'd been avoiding for weeks. The three science-backed reasons a single text message can do what willpower can't. How to run the play in five steps, including the specific way to word your text so it actually works. The buddy you should never pick (the lovable friend who'll talk you into lunch instead). The simple "time swap" variation that gets you and a friend both unstuck at once. Camp, M.D., Creator & Guide | Mayo Clinic Human Optimization Project Guest: Amy Morin, LCSW, Psychotherapist / Mental Strength Coach / International Bestselling Author | Mentally Strong One of the biggest limiters of our mental strength is our very common (usually unintentional) struggle with self-sabotaging behaviors. Since we all feel too busy to do more, maybe the answer is to actually do less? For some behaviors, that is absolutely the case. To help us better understand how we can do less, and be better for it, our expert guest for this episode is bestselling author, Amy Morin. The three big questions she is going to answer for us today are: What exactly is “mental strength?” What are the things we are doing that commonly sabotage our mental strength How can we remove these things from our lives in order to maximize our mental strength? #229 - He was face down in the ocean, paralyzed, and running out of time. Patrick Yalon went out for a routine surf at San Francisco's Ocean Beach and never came back the same person and he's honest about how close he came to not coming back at all.We talk through the full arc: the low-tide wipeout that breaks his neck, the foggy scramble that ends with his friend finding him blue in the water, and the CPR that brings him back. From there it's ICU uncertainty, brutal nerve pain, and a nine-and-a-half-hour spinal fusion from C3 to C5 with titanium hardware. Patrick doesn't skip the dark parts: identity loss, depression, and the exhausting question of whether his body will ever work the way it used to.Then the story pivots from survival to purpose. Patrick chooses a wildly specific goal for spinal cord injury recovery and resilience: Moab 240, one of the toughest ultramarathons in the world. He lines up just months after the accident, grinds out 144 miles in 2024, then travels to Thailand to keep healing through daily Muay Thai training, time in the mountains, and a search for meaning and faith. He also shares why helping others with similar accidents matters so much, and how finishing Moab 240 in 2025 through storms, mud, lightning, and sleep deprivation becomes a shared victory with the friend who saved his life.Patrick is writing a memoir called Still Here and continues raising money and awareness for people impacted by spinal cord injuries. In this episode of the Tough Girl Podcast, we're joined by Aisyah Rafaee – a two-time Olympic rower from Singapore who competed at the Rio 2016 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the single scull. After taking an eight-year break from the sport, Aisyah made the bold decision to return—qualifying for Paris 2024 as one of the oldest athletes in the field and redefining what it means to be a high-performing athlete in your 30s. Originally from Singapore and now based in Boston, USA, Aisyah grew up with four brothers and discovered rowing after being scouted during an indoor competition at school. With limited rowing culture and opportunities in Singapore, she carved her own path—training overseas in Sydney, qualifying through a fiercely competitive Asian selection process, and representing Singapore on the world stage. But her journey hasn't been linear. From struggling with pressure at her first Olympics to working with mental skills coach Hansen Bay, from stepping away from elite sport to rediscovering her love for movement, from fracturing her ribs a month before Paris to qualifying with just six months to go—this is a powerful conversation about identity, resilience, vulnerability, and growth. Eight hotels. Twenty-one days in New York. Sick throat. Camera cutting out. No sublet locked in.And Norense is still recording — because that's what confidence in God looks like when it stops being a concept and starts being a lifestyle. This episode is a raw, unfiltered thought dump from a hotel room in Manhattan — a real-time reminder that confidence isn't built in the comfortable moments. It's forged in the uncertain ones. Norense unpacks what it means to stay bold in who you are when everything around you is shifting, and why the moment you stop giving God thanks is the moment your confidence starts to collapse.Drawing from Romans 1, Norense reveals the dangerous connection between ingratitude and a darkened mind — and why praise isn't optional. It's protective. In this episode:Why confidence is something you hold onto — not something you throw away when obstacles comeThe Romans 1 warning: what happens to your mind when you stop giving God thanks and gloryHow nitpicking yourself into the ground is actually lowering the standard God set for how you should see yourselfWhy you're not defined by every thought that comes into your head — and what to do with the ones that try to take you downThe difference between thinking too highly of yourself and thinking too lowly — and why both are dangerousWhy trying seasons don't break you — they reveal capacity you didn't know you hadA personal inventory: sexual assault, suicidal ideation, losing loved ones, losing in sport — and why none of it disqualifies youKey Truth: "I don't know where I'm going, but I know who's with me."Key Verse: Romans 1:21 — Because that when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. If this episode hit you:Rate the Mind Bully Podcast — it helps more homes and hearts hear this message.

Free Guided Meditation for Calming Your Anxious Mind 10-Minute Body-Scan Meditation for AnxietyQuote:I've had a great many troubles in my life, most of which never happened.-Mark TwainSummaryIn this episode of the Anxiety Coaches Podcast, we delve into the pervasive habit of mental rehearsal that many anxious individuals engage in, often unconsciously. I share insights on how we tend to fixate on potential troubles—running through endless scenarios in our minds of what could go wrong. A significant focus of our discussion centers around the pitfalls of this "rehearsing trouble" practice, which can include anticipating rejection, imagining illnesses, and preparing for losses that may never occur. This mental activity not only stirs up unnecessary distress but also physically manifests in our bodies, leading to symptoms of anxiety and panic, all triggered by thoughts of events that haven't taken place.I emphasize the need to recognize that this script of catastrophic thinking doesn't serve our well-being. Instead, it often exacerbates feelings of unease and panic over situations that remain purely theoretical in our minds. The brain, in its protective nature, believes that rehearsing these painful scenarios will keep us safe, but I challenge this notion, questioning whether this form of preparation genuinely benefits us or simply weighs us down with borrowed suffering.Throughout our conversation, I share the metaphor of "mental rehearsal of catastrophe," shedding light on how this habit can lead to what I call "nervous system fatigue." The toll it takes on our energy and peace of mind is a significant concern. I reflect on how often we miss out on the present moment in our attempts to prepare for every possible outcome—a loss that may be even more painful than any future hardship itself. While anxiety can make us feel hyper-vigilant, I encourage listeners to find a way to detach from that excessive vigilance that proves exhausting and intrusive.#AnxietyRecovery, #MentalHealth, #Mindfulness, #GinaRyan, #AnxietyCoachesPodcast, #BorrowedSuffering, #Presence, #Resilience, #SelfCare, #MentalWellbeing, #Catastrophizing, #InnerPeace, #OvercomingAnxiety, #NervousSystemHealing, #Grounding, #StressManagement, #EmotionalWellness, #LivingInTheNow, #PositivePsychology, #SelfTrust, #WorryPostponement, #MentalRehearsal, #AnticipatoryAnxiety, #EmotionalRegulation, #MindBodyConnection, #Vagus nerve, #CalmConscious, #StopWorrying, #PanicAttackRecovery, #InnerCalm, #AnxiousMind, #SelfCompassion, #HolisticHealing, #NervousSystemRegulation, #PeaceOfMind, #MentalClarity, #CopingSkills, #PersonalGrowth, #WellnessJourney, #HealingJourney, #MindfulLiving, #OvercomingFear, #PsychologyTips, #CognitiveReframing, #MentalStrength, #InnerStrength, #Tranquility, #HealthAnxiety, #SocialAnxiety, #SelfSoothing #ACPSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Episode Description:James talks with psychotherapist and bestselling author Amy Morin about practical mental strength—the kind you need in the moment, not just in theory. Amy's earlier books focused on what mentally strong people don't do. Her new book, The Mental Strength Playbook, turns that work into 50 fast, usable tools for anxiety, stress, worry, conflict, focus, and resilience. The conversation is personal and tactical. Amy explains why “manage your stress” is useless advice when you're already overwhelmed, and instead offers small moves that can change your physiology, your thinking, or your next action. She and James talk about scheduled worry, reverse worry lists, psychological distance, “smell the pizza” breathing, half-smiling, doing something kind for someone else, and why solving problems can help with depression. What makes this episode useful is that it treats mental strength like a playbook, not a personality trait. Life deals different hands—money stress, relationship friction, anxiety, public speaking, aging, creative blocks—and the goal is to have a strategy ready for the hand you're holding. What You'll Learn:Why Amy wanted to write a “painkiller, not a vitamin” book for mental strength. How scheduling worry can reduce rumination and help your brain reset. Why a reverse worry list can turn anxiety into excitement before high-pressure moments. How simple physical tools—breathing, half-smiling, psychological distance—can calm the body before the mind catches up.Why doing something kind for someone else can interrupt rumination and restore a sense of agency. How values help you play the long game when current frustrations feel overwhelming.Timestamped Chapters:[02:00] Amy on grief, stress, and why vague advice doesn't help[03:22] Articles as a testing ground for books[03:36] Amy's life on a sailboat and the simplicity it created[05:48] From 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do to The Mental Strength Playbook[06:41] Why people need immediate tools, not abstract advice[07:53] Financial anxiety and the first question to ask yourself[09:00] Scheduling time to worry[10:05] Why 3 a.m. worries often shrink by afternoon[11:02] Amy's own worries about family and what she can't control[12:37] The reverse worry list for acute anxiety[13:42] James' public-speaking anxiety technique[14:37] Psychological distance and separating yourself from anxiety[15:12] The good-vibes boomerang: doing something kind for someone else[16:53] Why not all charity or service feels emotionally useful[18:00] Neuroplasticity and rewiring the brain[20:08] The half-smile technique[22:16] Handling heated political or family arguments[23:12] “Smell the pizza” breathing[24:45] Happiness vs. wellbeing[25:48] Brain chemistry, dopamine, serotonin, and purpose[27:17] Amy's origin story after loss and the viral article that changed her career[28:42] How Rush Limbaugh unexpectedly revived her first book[32:01] Life after becoming an accidental bestselling author[34:25] How writing books changed Amy as a therapist[35:11] Anxiety disorders, treatment, exposure therapy, and medication[37:46] James on writing, anxiety, and the danger of addictive medication[40:05] The power of writing 10 ideas a day[42:16] Why mental strength requires multiple plays for different situations[43:11] Chess, focus, aging, and cognitive load[48:29] Why simplicity may protect attention[49:08] The secret to long-term relationships[52:54] Committing to the long game[56:05] Closing thoughts on The Mental Strength PlaybookAdditional Resources:Amy Morin's official websiteThe Mental Strength Playbook official pageAmy Morin's books page, including her mental strength titlesAmy Morin's podcast pageSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

But in the real, messy, everyday moments… when your job feels uncertain, your finances feel stretched, and your life doesn't look the way you thought it would. My guest today, Amy Morin, has spent her career helping people answer exactly that question.
