Work Less, Live More AND Perform Better at Your Job (SB1739)

The Stacking Benjamins Show

What if the secret to enjoying your job isn't grinding harder but stepping back and rethinking how work fits into life? In this episode of The Stacking Benjamins Show, Joe Saul-Sehy, OG, and Neighbor Doug welcome special guest Shemin Nurmohamed to unpack the Paris Paradox: balancing work and leisure without sacrificing ambition. From cultural perspectives on downtime to the productivity perks of unplugging, Shemin shows why working less might just help you accomplish more. But that's not all. What happens when your financial advisor suddenly jumps ship to another firm? The team digs into what it means for your money, your relationship with your advisor, and how to evaluate whether it's time to follow—or finally shop around. Add in Doug's trivia, a few stumbles down random rabbit holes, and our community's contributions, and you've got a lively mix of practical advice and classic basement energy. Whether you're plotting your next vacation or just trying to figure out how to stop your inbox from running your life, this episode offers real-world strategies (and plenty of chuckles) to help you reset, recharge, and refocus. Why time off is not laziness but fuel for better work and sharper decision-making. How cultural differences around leisure can reshape your own approach. What to do when your advisor changes firms (and how to spot a keeper). Practical ways to build stronger connections and communities. The “Two Beers and a Puppy” test: a surprisingly effective tool for evaluating relationships. I have recorded multiple episodes on the topic of "Sharpening The Blade." Sharpening the blade is a term used by chefs, lumberjacks and hockey players that means, take the time to sharpen your blade and you will save time and effort while you cut, chop or skate. I sharpen my mental blade multiple times a year. Short trips, hikes, weekends with no cell service and anything else that removes me from the grid would qualify as a STB! This last STB was one for the ages. I trained for it, planned for it and executed it to the highest level. It involved an entire month of travel, new experiences, killer waves, massive wipeouts, sun, fun and romance. (Ahhh ha honey! That's right baby) You don't need to do what I did to get similar results. You just need to have an intention and create an environment that is conducive to that intention. You have Bali in your heart. You have Thailand in your loins. You just need to dig deeper to find it. (That didn't sound right!) Enjoy this episode. I enjoyed recording it for you. Todd Durkin IMPACT Show

Today's episode is one of the most special and sacred I've ever recorded. My dear mom, Mary “Muffy” Durkin—aka Momma Durkin—passed away on April 5th, 2025, at the age of 91. And while I knew this day would come, nothing quite prepares your heart for the final goodbye. Today, I wanted to share with you my heart, along with some never-heard stories before that I think are going to make you smile and understand a woman who had tremendous IMPACT on me, my 7-brothers and sisters, and many others. This one's for her! I dedicate this episode to honor and celebrate her incredible 91-years of life…a life full of grit, love, sweetness (literally), unwavering faith, and deep sacrifice. Mom was the rock, the glue, the angel on Earth who raised 8 kids as a single mom, worked as a private duty nurse, and never once let life's tough circumstances dim her joy or love. In this episode, I share my “Top 10 Favorite Memories of Momma Durkin” (and a few extras I just couldn't leave out). Here is some of what you will hear about: The time she funded my massage therapy school when I had nothing. How she handcrafted over 100 “Get Your Mind Right” needlepoint signs in 2019-2020. Her legendary “sugar water” and 12-teaspoon coffees (no joke). Her love of cruising—and the infamous Bermuda family cruise with 27 Durkin's! That unforgettable moment she almost died after crashing my huddle at a Perform Better conference a few years ago… and LIVED to tell about it. One of the most self-less things she ever did when we moved houses when I was going into High School. One of the most amazing gifts she ever game me and my family in 1994. What made me almost smoke my first cigarette with Mom. Why she broke a spoon over my butt when I was a kid. The late-night conversation just hours before she passed… where she left me with words I'll treasure forever. We laughed, we cried, we reflected, and we celebrated. That's what this episode is all about. I pray it inspires you to call your mom (or someone you love) today. Say what needs to be said. Love out loud. Thank you to all of YOU who have reached out over the past week with texts, DMs, prayers, and love. My family and I are beyond grateful. Momma Durkin, I love you with all my heart. And I promise, I'll keep making you proud. If you find value in today's episode, please make sure you share it. Please forward it to your friends and family and share it on your social media.
