Caribbean Ecology c.2026.mp3Introduction Water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) is a free-floating perennial aquatic plant native to tropical and subtropical South America (Mahmood et al., 2005). It features broad, thick, glossy, ovate leaves that can rise up to 1 m above the water surface, supported by buoyant bulb-like nodules at the base of its stems (Khotsa et al., 2025). The plant has long, spongy stalks and feathery, purple-black roots, while its flowers are arranged on erect spikes, typically lavender to pink with six petals (UF/IFAS Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants, n.d.). Outside of its flowering period, water hyacinth may be confused with other floating plants, such as frogbit (Limnobium spongia) or Amazon frogbit (Limnobium laevigatum).Water hyacinth is among the fastest-growing plants, reproducing primarily via stolons and producing thousands of seeds annually, which can remain viable for over 28 years (Sullivan & Wood, 2012). Under ideal conditions, mats of water hyacinth can double in size in one to two weeks, and plant counts may increase more than a hundredfold in 23 days (Dickinson & Royer, 2014). In its native range, pollination is primarily by long-tongued bees (Coetzee et al., 2017). The species reproduces both sexually and clonally, with large patches often representing a single genetic form (Harun et al., 2021).Water hyacinth exhibits tristylous flowers with three morphs based on pistil length: long (L), medium (M), and short (S) (Rojas-Sandoval & Acevedo-Rodríguez, 2013). Tristylous populations are restricted to its native South American lowlands, while introduced populations predominantly feature the M-morph, with occasional L-morphs and absence of S-morphs (Barrett, 1977, 1989). This pattern suggests that founder events significantly influenced the species' global distribution.Podcast 285 Caribbean Ecology© 2026 ISBN978-976-97903-7-7 Devgro Media Arts Services Publishing®2015 In collaboration with iMovie present Podcast 285 Caribbean Ecology© 2026 ISBN978-976-97903-7-7 RECOGNITIONSAs I take a moment to reflect on my journey, I am filled with profound gratitude for the Creator's guiding hand that has led me every step of the way. The Dynasty Nerds wrap up their 2026 rookie breakdown series by digging into the tight end class—and the big theme is simple: tight end upside exists, but fantasy relevance usually comes down to target share and deployment. If a rookie tight end isn't becoming a top-two option in the offense (or at least a designed focal point), good luck turning traits into weekly lineups. This month we were delighted to be joined by Tom Royer who is a Visiting Researcher at the Arctic Centre and a Doctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Law at University of Lapland. Tom's work revolves around commercial space ports in the arctic from a more-than-human perspective. This work combines critical legal studies, multispecies justice, and extractivism. These space ports are hubs where commercial spacecraft are stored, worked on, launched, and re-entered (sometimes whole, sometimes not). The Arctic is not a new venue for commercial space activities, with some ports having a more than 50-year history. This is partially because satellites orbiting the poles can circle the globe in a single day. Tom opens a whole world to us in relation to commercial space ports and gives us a lot of food for thought in terms of impacts of these operations. Tom would like to make sure listeners are aware that everything he says during the episode is his own critical interpretations rather than simple factual statements. While his arguments map to onto existing critical literature, they are still his own interpretation of his and stand as supported analytical claims. Want to learn more about Tom's work? If you've ever felt weird about being stopped after clearing security, or just want to know what your rights really are at the airport, this episode's got you covered. Why can TSA just pull you aside at the airport and dig through your bags, even if you haven't done anything suspicious? Steve Palmer and Troy Hendrickson are tackling this head-on, starting with a listener's YouTube question that gets right to the heart of the TSA search dilemma.Steve breaks down the difference between actual searches that need legal justification and those “consensual encounters” we all sign up for when we choose to fly. The conversation gets into legal stuff like the Fourth Amendment, airport security policies, and an old Supreme Court case (Florida v. Royer) that spelled out where the lines are drawn. Here are 3 key takeaways from their discussion:Consent is Everything: When you purchase a ticket and enter the airport, you're essentially consenting to the TSA screening process. As Steve explains, you can always choose not to fly, but once you step into the process, searches are part of the deal. Not All Searches Are Equal: The courts (notably Florida v. Royer) distinguish between consensual encounters and those that require Fourth Amendment justification. Routine TSA screenings are generally considered consensual, but more targeted detentions (like pulling someone into a room) can cross the line into requiring probable cause.Police & TSA Can't Collaborate for a Pretext: Law enforcement can't use TSA procedures to skirt constitutional protections. If they use airport security as a cover to target someone they couldn't otherwise search, that becomes a Fourth Amendment issue.Got a question you want answered on the podcast?

Family Matters with Jim Minnery - The Faith & Politics Show !
Going from fighting with Muslims in the Bosnian civil war along with a Pakistani militant group that ultimately had him being convicted and imprisoned for nearly 14 years on weapons charges for violating U.S. neutrality laws is not a background you'd expect for a recently appointed member of President Trump's White House's Religious Liberty Commission. But that is the story of Ismail Royer. While in prison, Royer abandoned Islamist radicalism and now works with nonprofits to promote peace and combat religious extremism. As the Director of the Islam and Religious Freedom Action Team for the Religious Freedom Institute, Royer was instrumental in galvanizing Muslims and people of other faiths to stand up to the Montgomery County School District in Maryland that had refused to let parents opt their children out of LGBTQ indoctrination.Ultimately, the case (Mahmoud v Taylor) went to the U.S. Supreme Court where they ruled in favor of the parents. Great precedent. Fascinating story.Hope you can join us for my discussion with Ismail.Support the show

Timestamp for main show 28:56Sacred Sight the documentary series has been out since march in various shapes and forms on a few platforms. Gathering a little bit of feedback and questions, we formed a livestream back in May around it.Triffon, Zach and Ceb are the main people in the first chapters, and we discuss everything surrounding this topics, including address 4 email questions, and comments in the Chat. It's a good conversation, and it was a great way to launch into the 300's on Chant It Down.(excuse the loud coqui frogs that made the recording)Watch Sacred Sight the shortened version: https://rumble.com/v6rap16-sacred-sight-theatrical-version.html?e9s=src_v1_upp_aListen to Unlocking The Code: https://unlockingthecode.podbean.comCheck out Zach Royer's works: https://www.zachroyer.comCheck out Ceb's Substack: https://cebstack.substack.comShow website:https://www.chantitdownradio.com/Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmTlBzFViiv58N4_K9On0UQInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/chantitdown/Telegram:https://t.me/chantitdownOdysee: https://odysee.com/@chantitdownradio:cRumble: https://rumble.com/user/ChantitdownradioPlease help support the show.
