As we edge towards a brand-new year, I want to ask you a simple – but deeply powerful – question: Is 2026 going to be your year? Not just a “pretty good” year, but a year you consciously design. A year where you stop postponing your dreams, get clear on what truly matters, and begin living a life that feels meaningful and aligned for you. In this solo episode, I’ll guide you through a gentle but honest reflection on where you’re at now - and who you want to be by the end of 2026. We’ll slow down together, breathe, and really consider: What do I want more of next year? What do I want less of? What are my top three dreams for 2026? I’ll walk you through a simple future-visualisation (you, at the end of 2026, feeling proud and alive), and then we’ll turn that into three powerful focus dreams for the year ahead. Not 20. Not 101. Just three - because three creates clarity, focus and momentum. If you’re feeling a little stuck, a bit on autopilot, or just ready for a fresh, intentional start, this episode is your invitation. Pop your headphones on, grab your journal, and let’s start making 2026 your year - by design, not by default. As always, I’d LOVE to hear what resonated most with you - so please share and let’s keep the conversation going in the Dream Life Podcast Facebook Group here. …and remember, it all starts with a dream
Welcome to another short but empowering episode of Monday Motivation, giving you a dose of inspiration as you head into your week... Today, we explore this powerful quote about not being able to change the beginning of your story, but choosing to change the ending - and how you can apply it to the final month of the year: “You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.” — C.S. Lewis Here are three key takeaways you can expect from this episode: How to gently accept the parts of this year you wish had gone differently - and turn regret into learning and self-compassion. Why tiny, courageous steps matter more than dramatic change - and how one small action today can shift the direction of your whole year. A simple December reflection practice to help you design how you want the year to end and start stepping into your Future 2026 Self now. Take this opportunity to learn how to turn reflection into momentum, and use the final weeks of the year to consciously create the ending you really want. As always, I’d LOVE to hear what resonated most with you - so please share and let’s keep the conversation going in the Dream Life Podcast Facebook Group here. …and remember, it all starts with a dream
Before you dive into today’s episode, take a slow, deep breath with me… and let it go... Today, I’m joined by the wonderful Alex Soojung-Kim Pang, author of Rest: Why You Get More Done When You Work Less. His book completely reframed how I think about productivity, creativity, and the rhythm of our days. Alex has a magical way of showing us that when we rest well - truly rest - we don’t fall behind. We rise. We think more clearly. We create better. And we step into our dreams with more energy, intention, and joy. Whether you’re closing out a big year, building something exciting, or simply wanting more ease in your days, this conversation offers the permission slip so many of us need: to slow down, breathe, recalibrate… and trust that rest supports your dreams. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did - and I encourage you to listen all the way to the end, because there is so much goodness you won’t want to miss. As always, I’d LOVE to hear what resonated most with you - so please share and let’s keep the conversation going in the Dream Life Podcast Facebook Group here. …and remember, it all starts with a dream

Text your thoughts and questions!Have you ever dismissed a small step because it feels like it won't make a difference, or felt discouraged when you don't see immediate results? We live in a culture that glorifies big leaps and instant success, but the truth is, lasting change is built through the small, consistent choices we make every day. The biggest mistake is undervaluing these small actions, often quitting right before the magic happens. In this episode of the Positively LivingⓇ Podcast, I dive into the power of small steps and why they create big, lasting change. I share insights from foundational productivity books like The Slight Edge and Atomic Habits, and give you four simple steps to embrace consistency, build new habits, and trust the process.I cover the following topics:How cultural pressure for instant gratification makes us dismiss small steps and leads us to quit before we see results. The science behind why our brains favor bad habits that offer instant rewards, while good habits with delayed benefits feel like so much work. How the "compound effect" means that small, consistent actions accumulate into dramatically different outcomes over time, for better or for worse.Four actionable steps to embrace small steps: reframing what "small" means, celebrating small wins, focusing on your identity, and using habit stacking. My personal story of learning to play guitar to illustrate how small, consistent practice leads to significant skill acquisition over time.Don't let the simplicity of a small step fool you. The small choice you make today is shaping your future self. What will your first small step be?Thank you for listening! FAN MAIL--We would love YOUR feedback--Send us a Text MessageEver find yourself stuck in the cycle of trying to make massive life changes overnight, only to fail and feel frustrated? You're not alone. Today's episode explores a powerful alternative approach to personal transformation that's been hiding in plain sight for centuries. We begin with the remarkable story of Harriet, a 176-year-old tortoise collected by Charles Darwin himself, whose species adapted gradually over millions of years to thrive in specific environments. This natural example of incremental change serves as our gateway to understanding how real, lasting transformation works in human lives.Drawing wisdom from both Eastern and Western traditions, we dive into the Japanese concept of "kaizen"—the philosophy of continuous improvement through small, consistent changes. We examine how this approach aligns perfectly with insights from modern personal development experts like Darren Hardy and Jeff Olson, who emphasize that success comes not through dramatic gestures but through "mundane, unsexy, unexcited, sometimes difficult daily disciplines, compounded over time."Ready to break free from the cycle of dramatic starts and disappointing finishes? This episode offers a refreshing alternative that aligns with how lasting change actually happens. What small improvement will you commit to today? Listen now and discover how tiny steps can lead to your flourishing life.Key Points from the Episode:• Harriet the tortoise lived to 176 years old and was one of the tortoises Charles Darwin collected from the Galapagos• Different tortoise species evolved gradually over millions of years to adapt to their environments• The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy emphasizes "mundane, unsexy, unexcited, sometimes difficult, daily disciplines, compounded over time"• The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson focuses on "simple productive actions, repeatedly, consistently, over time"• Kaizen is the Japanese concept for small, consistent improvements that lead to significant change• Small virtues or daily disciplines may seem insignificant but yield powerful results when practiced consistentlyWhat small step will you take today to improve? One small, insignificant step at a time will put you on the road to a flourishing life.Other resources: Want to leave a review? (How to Become the Person Who Never Gives Up) In this ep, we explore the parallels between fitness and personal growth, the power of consistency, and how to embrace plateaus as part of the process. Andrew shares insights into overcoming self-sabotage, the compound effect of small habits, and shifting from aesthetics-focused goals to performance-driven empowerment. This conversation delves into mindset shifts, identity evolution, and the importance of aligning actions with long-term values. Tune in for a no-nonsense, relatable discussion packed with actionable advice to help you find joy in the journey and redefine what progress means for you. 1/ Plateaus Growth isn't linear; plateaus are inevitable and require mental resilience to push through. When progress slows, revisit your goals and adjust expectations. Are you letting plateaus demotivate you, or are you seeing them as a chance to refine your methods? 2/unrealistic expectations of rapid progress often lead to self-sabotage. Accepting slower progress reduces frustration. Reframe your mindset by focusing on long-term consistency rather than short-term perfection. What would you achieve if you embraced the process instead of fixating on speed? 3/Small, consistent actions lead to significant changes over time as described in The Compound Effect and The Slight Edge. Reflect on daily habits. Are they aligned with your long-term goals, or are they compounding toward stagnation? Coaching Helps Break Cycles. Coaches provide guidance to disrupt negative feedback loops, like self-sabotage or over-restriction, leading to sustainable habits. : If you're stuck, consider whether external guidance could help shift your perspective and actions. /Goals and values evolve with life stages. Holding onto outdated goals can create unnecessary frustration. Periodically reassess your goals. Are they still relevant, or are they rooted in past desires that no longer serve you? Progress Requires Patience and Consistency Success in fitness and social media often mirrors each other: it starts slow, feels repetitive, and seems stagnant, but consistency leads to exponential growth. Many people give up too soon because they don't see immediate results. Reflect on what small actions you can take today that could snowball into bigger achievements later. Learning Skills Leads to Faster Progress Just like mastering the basics of lifting (e.g., squats and deadlifts), mastering foundational skills in any endeavor allows for accelerated growth later. Are you building a strong foundation in your efforts? /By focusing on strength & health rather than just fat loss, people often achieve their goals as a byproduct. Are you prioritizing the wrong goal? What would happen if you shifted your focus to performance or well-being? /Social media highlights extremes, making people compare themselves to the "best of the best" rather than the average journey. Diversify your social media feed to include relatable journeys and focus on your progress. Are your comparisons inspiring or discouraging? /Identity is fluid and shaped by beliefs, language, actions. Fixed mindsets limit potential, while open ones allow growth. What language are you using about yourself? Are your beliefs helping or hindering your progress? /Emotional eating often stems from deeper issues like body image, which need addressing for long-term success. How do your habits reflect your emotions? What could you take to address the root? Saying “I'm not the type of person who…” creates mental barriers to growth. What might you achieve if you embraced flexibility in your identity? Obsessing over specific outcomes can lead to burnout. Enjoying the process creates sustainable progress. Strength training empowers people by shifting the focus from aesthetics to performance and capability. Keeping an open mind and flexible approach prepares you for changes in priorities or circumstances. @Andrewcoatesfitness @transformxruby

Brian McDonald is a partner at Bay Advisory, a corporate finance firm helping founders navigate funding, scaling, and exiting their businesses. Brian first joined the show in 2021, and now, four years later, he returns to share updated insights on startup exits, valuations, and the evolving market landscape. From the importance of staying true to your business identity to understanding deal structuring and negotiation tactics, Brian breaks down what founders need to know before, during, and after an exit. He also shares his thoughts on current trends, including valuation shifts, the rise of AI-driven businesses, and the significance of knowing when to walk away from a deal. If you're a founder planning your next fundraising round or thinking about an exit, this episode is packed with actionable advice and real-world examples that you won't want to miss. Key Takeaways: 1. Stay True to Your Business Identity: Many founders feel pressured to present their business as a SaaS or AI-driven venture to attract investors, but Brian emphasizes the importance of positioning your business based on what it truly is rather than shaping it to fit investor expectations. 2. Avoid Venture Capital If You Plan to Keep Your Business Long-Term: If you're building a business to own and operate for life, taking on investors expecting a return may not be the right move. Transparency about your vision is crucial in aligning with the right partners. 3. Consider Alternatives to Full Exits: Founders don't have to sell their entire company to achieve financial security. Partial exits or taking some cash off the table while continuing to scale can be viable options. 4. Valuation Challenges in Today's Market: Valuations fluctuate, and generic revenue multiples can be misleading. Founders should focus on comparable deals and be realistic about their company's value in the current market conditions. 5. Earnouts and Deal Structuring: Few exits involve a full cash payout at closing. Earnouts based on future performance are common, and founders should aim for turnover-based earnouts rather than EBITDA-based, as buyers can manipulate EBITDA figures. 6. Know Your 'No' and Be Ready to Walk Away: Understanding your bottom line in negotiations is critical. If a deal isn't right, having the confidence to walk away can save founders from making costly mistakes. Notable Quotes from Brian McDonald: "If you plan to keep your business for life, avoid taking on investors who expect a return." "The key question I ask a founder thinking about an exit is 'What is it that you really want to do?" "The best founders say to investors 'This is my business, this is what I'm doing. If this doesn't fit for you as an investor, that's okay, I'll bootstrap." Market Trends and Strategic Insights: Longer Deal Timelines: Exit processes that once took six months are now stretching to 9-12 months due to market shifts. AI Bubble: Many businesses are branding themselves as AI-driven when they're not, which mirrors past trends seen with blockchain startups. Corporate vs. PE Buyers: Corporates focus on strategic fit, while PE firms prioritize financials and growth potential. Importance of Data Rooms: Keeping updated documentation can streamline fundraising or an acquisition process when the time comes. Key Takeaways 1. Earnouts based on future performance are common, and founders should aim for turnover-based earnouts rather than EBITDA-based, as buyers can manipulate EBITDA figures.. 6. Know Your ‘No' and Be Ready to Walk Away: Understanding your bottom line in negotiations is critical. If a deal isn't right, having the confidence to walk away can save founders from making costly mistakes. Chapter 1:Summary of The Slight Edge"The Slight Edge" by Jeff Olson presents the concept that small, consistent actions can lead to significant positive results over time. Olson emphasizes the power of incremental progress and the importance of daily choices in shaping one's life and achieving success.Key themes of the book include:1. The Philosophy of the Slight Edge: Olson argues that success isn't necessarily the result of major efforts or breakthroughs, but rather the accumulation of small, seemingly insignificant daily habits that compound over time.2. Mindset and Attitude: A positive attitude and a growth mindset are crucial. Olson stresses the need to develop a mindset that embraces learning and perseverance, as these qualities enable individuals to overcome challenges and setbacks.3. Daily Habits: Olson identifies key daily disciplines, such as reading, exercising, and maintaining healthy relationships, that can lead to personal and professional achievements. He encourages readers to focus on small, manageable actions that contribute to their long-term goals.4. The Importance of Decision-Making: Every decision, no matter how small, has a cumulative effect. Olson teaches that consciously making positive choices consistently is fundamental to leveraging the Slight Edge.5. Taking Responsibility: The book emphasizes personal responsibility and accountability. Olson encourages readers to take control of their lives by understanding that they have the power to choose their actions and mindset.Overall, "The Slight Edge" serves as a motivational guide, illustrating how adopting a philosophy of small, consistent improvements can lead to lasting success and fulfillment in various areas of life.Chapter 2:The Theme of The Slight Edge"The Slight Edge: Turning Simple Disciplines into Massive Success and Happiness" by Jeff Olson is a self-help book that emphasizes the power of small, consistent actions and their cumulative effect over time. While the book is not a traditional narrative with characters or plot points, it does contain key concepts that could be aligned with character development and thematic exploration. Here are some key elements: Key Concepts1. The Power of Small Efforts: Olson introduces the idea that small, daily decisions can compound over time to lead to significant success or failure. This concept is central to the book's premise and represents the foundation of personal growth.2. Mindset Shift: A critical element of the Slight Edge is the need to adopt a proactive and positive mindset. Olson encourages readers to focus on improving their daily habits and choices, recognizing that every small decision contributes to their overall life trajectory.3. Consistency: The importance of consistency in applying small disciplines is emphasized. Olson suggests that the commitment to daily habits—no matter how insignificant they may seem—is what leads to transformative change.4. The Success Curve vs. the Failure Curve: Olson illustrates two curves – one representing success and the other failure. The success curve shows how small, positive actions lead to gradual improvement, while negative actions create a downward spiral. Understanding these curves helps readers visualize the long-term implications of their choices.5. Self-Learning and Growth: The book encourages continuous self-improvement and lifelong learning. Olson stresses that personal development is a journey rather than a destination and requires ongoing dedication. Character Development (Metaphorically)Although "The Slight Edge" does not have characters in the conventional sense, readers can think of themselves as the main character in their journey of self-improvement. The development is as follows:1. The Protagonist's Awakening: The reader (or "protagonist") initially may not...

Just when you think you've got everything under control, life throws a curveball—like having to re-record an entire podcast episode thanks to a technical glitch. But it's in these moments of frustration where the true test of perseverance shines through. I, Rebecca Sonuga, host of Starts With Heart, encountered just such a moment, and it became the perfect catalyst to discuss the importance of sticking to our core actions even as leaders in our fields. My recent heart-to-heart with a fellow travel business leader revealed that both of us had strayed from the very practices that got us here. It's a candid reminder that to inspire our teams, we must recommit to the basics—more live sessions, daily social media engagement—and lead by example. The power of simple, consistent actions can't be overstated. Our conversation today circles around the transformative nature of the 'Slight Edge' philosophy: how even the smallest steps forward can prevent backsliding into old habits. The development and maintenance of a morning routine exemplify how foundational habits can exponentially build towards significant achievements. By returning to these basics, I've personally witnessed a resurgence in productivity and a boost in team morale, proving that sometimes the simplest changes have the most profound effects. In every challenge lies an opportunity to rewrite your story, and that's precisely what we explore in this episode. I share the compelling journeys of individuals who embraced their circumstances, no matter how daunting, and marched towards their long-term vision with unwavering commitment. Their stories are a testament to the idea that success isn't about immediate gratification but about consistent effort and unshakeable resolve. So, as we wrap up, I invite you to reflect on your commitment to your ambitions and consider the weight of personal accountability in shaping your path to victory. Let's face those challenges head-on and hold ourselves to the promise of our own potential. Additionally, Troy recommends that the special guest should explore the episode featuring Mark Ritson, who shares valuable marketing strategies. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions: According to Braith Bamkin one of the hardest aspects of growing a small business is the transitioning from employee to business owner, as it requires more than ownership; it demands the development of systems, delegation, and stepping back from every operational detail. Shifting from doing the work to managing the business is a crucial mindset change for entrepreneurs during their growth journey. Braith Bamkin's top business book pick is "The Slight Edge" by Jeff Olson, lauding its emphasis on continuous small improvements, echoing his belief in consistent, incremental progress ("kaizen") for impactful business and personal development. For small business growth Braith Bamkin endorses "SendSpark," a personalised video tool Integrated into emails, it enhances engagement, adds a personal touch, and fosters connections, contributing significantly to business expansion. Braith Bamkin suggests the "How to Life" podcast hosted by Jonathan Fields as an excellent tool for professional development. Braith Bamkin's advice to his younger self when starting out in business would be to "believe in yourself." Reflecting on personal experiences, he highlights that lacking self-belief often led to less favorable outcomes. Thus, advocating the importance of self-confidence and belief in one's abilities as a crucial factor in navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship.
