Andy is at the PASS Summit this week and bumps into some BIML people.
Andy bumps into a fellow Virginian at the annual PASS Summit and they talk BIML.
Today is a special day and Andy is excited. It’s Christmas in July. It’s BIML Release Day! BimlExpress (https://varigence.com/bimlexpress) is a free extension for SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) that snaps right into Visual Studio. BimlExpress now includes a Preview Pane, previously only available in Mist. Mist has been re-branded BimlStudio 2017 (https://varigence.com/bimlstudio) and sports lots of new features! BimlFlex (https://varigence.com/bimlflex) – a commercial Biml framework that greatly accelerates Data Warehouse development. From the product page: “BimlFlex is a collection of templates, metadata definitions, and tooling that enables you to build an end-to-end data solution without ever writing a single line of code. “ Why are you reading about this at Data Driven? Because data wrangling is still the largest part of the data science job. Automation, such as that offered by Biml, is the key to shortening the data integration cycle.
Andy Leonard is a Data Philosopher at Enterprise Data & Analytics, a Biml (Business Intelligence Markup Language) developer and BimlHero, SSIS architect, consultant, and trainer. He created and maintains the DILM (Data Integration Lifecycle Management) Suite that includes tools and utilities for managing SSIS in the enterprise. Andy is an avid blogger and has co-authored several books on SSIS, ETL, and database technology. Interviewer: Rajib Bahar Music: www.freesfx.co.uk

I learn stuff every day. In this episode I tackle a new subject for me and one I am hearing a lot about--BIML. BIML is a markup language you can use to build your SSIS packages. I met up with Bill Fellows and Cathrine Wilhelmsen in Portland and they shared with me some insights on BIML, what they use if for, and some tips on getting started. If you find your self doing more SSIS packages and haven't yet tackled BIML, this episode is for you! Check out the shownotes at http://sqldatapartners.com/2015/11/17/biml/
