If you haven't heard of this band and love nothing more than putting on some great music after a long day's work and sparking up a joint or sipping on your favourite cocktail then look no further. You've found them. Mother Tongues has been on the Toronto music scene for the past 5 years and is made up of: Lukas Cheung, Charise Aragoza, Konrad Karczewski, Nick Kervin , Hannah Bussiere Kim. It was a love of everything from 60s French pop, to break beats, kraut rock shoegaze and film scores that brought these 5 together and it's interesting how all of these seemingly random mix of genres come out in their music. Mother Tongues have toured all across Canada and the US sharing the stage notable artists such as Dilly Dally, Fucked Up and U.S Girls. The band signed with Buzz Records in 2019 and released their debut EP Everything You Ever Wanted in 2020, in the thralls of the COVID 19 pandemic. If you haven't yet, I urge you to give the EP a listen, it is truly out of this world and as guitarist and vocalist Lukas Cheung says the “music transports you” – which is a very accurate way of describing it. To truly get a sense of this statement check out their Live If you haven't heard of this band and love nothing more than putting on some great music after a long day's work and sparking up a joint or sipping on your favourite cocktail then look no further. On today's episode I talk to musician Nora Singh. Originally from Texas, Nora nee Anna Barie started playing music over a decade ago with the Brooklyn experimental noise band These Are Powers. They released a number of albums on HOSS Records and Dead Oceans. In 2012, Nora moved to France and started the electronic duo DUBAI, and eventually ended up in LA, where she founded the "queencore" band Hit Bargain. Their debut album Potential Maximizer was released on Buzz Records back in May, and it's wonderful! This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, follow me on Twitter.

Weaves is a fantastic, noisy, and infectious rock band based in Toronto, Ontario. In 2016, Buzz Records released Weaves’ self-titled debut album and it went on to be regarded as one of the finest records to ever come out of Toronto and was recently shortlisted for Canada’s Polaris Music Prize. The other day I drove down to the Greater Good Bar in Toronto to meet with singer and songwriter Jasmyn Burke, guitarist Morgan Waters, and drummer Spencer Cole to discuss their band and delve into their self-titled record with track-by-track commentary. You’ll hear snippets of each song as we go along. We also got into breaking news, as the band just announced that their follow-up record, Wide Open, will be out October 6, and so we talked about what the new album is like and also the first single, “#53,” which you can hear in its entirety on this show. Sponsored by Pizza Trokadero, the Bookshelf, Planet Bean Coffee, and Grandad's Donuts. Madcap (Elliot Payne) started DJing in the early 90's. Son of a Rock N' Roll Musician Father & Piano teaching Mother, he was exposed to music from a very young age. Being so young was a stumbling block at first, but this changed in the summer of '95 when securing a job at local record shop Buzz Records, High Wycombe. This was associated with DJ Pulse and the influential Creative Wax label. Meeting with punters and promoters alike, Madcap soon found himself being booked up & down the UK for sets, including the infamous Sanctuary in Milton Keynes. One particular highlight of his DJing career so far was winning the Movement / Technics DJ Competition in 2002 at The End Night-club, as featured in DJ Magazine, this resulted in several bookings for Movement at London's Bar Rumba & across the Capital. Other notable features on Madcap is his appearance in The West Country's IDJ Magazine January 2004 after winning "Mix Tape of the Month" The competitions certainly helped and has continued to get him bookings throughout the UK.
