Dr. Christian Hageseth is an 82-year-old retired psychiatrist. His first symptoms of PD started 18 years ago, yet he only started taking L-Dopa 2 ½ years ago. He credits his success in slowing PD—almost to a halt—to his attitude, exercise, and practicing yoga. He directed his local PD support group from 2012 to 2019. During that time, the numbers of attendees went from thirteen to more than one hundred every month. Today he feels it is critically important for PWPs to avoid spending their time looking for for the next new drug to show up. Instead, he says to live life to its fullest. He reminds us that PD does not appreciably shorten the life span of PWPs. And he also reminds us that medications such as L-dopa do not increase longevity. He has always viewed PD as a challenge, not a curse.

In 2009, Hageseth was an out-of-work real estate finance professional who was a casualty of the economic crisis in 2008. He was invited to play a round of golf where he met an individual opening a dispensary in the up-and-coming Colorado cannabis industry. Hageseth started in the cannabis industry in July 2009, about six weeks before business took off in Colorado following rules that opened up the medical market. He got a little lucky with the timing, but he had his first plant in the ground by September 2009, and he has been growing and selling legal weed ever since. While he has founded many companies in the industry and even authored a book, Big Weed, Hageseth's latest venture, VIST Labs, is his effort to clean up the cannabis industry's dirty secrets. Hageseth wants to deliver clean cannabis to the consumer with a process that makes the product much more shelf-stable. The tech means a safer product for consumers while remaining a boon for cannabis cultivators sitting on a surplus -- as well as those looking to market a more pure product. VIST's patent-pending CryoPasteurization decontamination technology kills mold, yeast and bacteria while preserving terpene and cannabinoid levels. The company also created AMAPS, an aseptic modified atmosphere packaging system that protects and extends product freshness. VIST has a fleet of mobile labs that travel to facilities to provide microbial screening to identify the level of contaminants in flower or shake and treat the affected product. When Hageseth got into the cannabis industry, he says it was made up of a bunch of cowboys, yahoos and crazies (he was a cowboy that was a little bit crazy), but as the business has evolved, his entrepreneurial spirit drove him to help make it a bit safer for consumers and businesses alike. Learn about an entrepreneur’s high-stakes adventures in the budding legal marijuana business. Hippies, stoners, burn-outs, psychedelic art, Woodstock. These are all the stereotypes and associations that society uses to identify people who smoke marijuana. However, these stereotypes are becoming what we consider the "Old World" of marijuana. With propaganda films like Reefer Madness, the Old World aimed to scare Americans away from a plant, saying it would drive them insane and turn them into murderers, prostitutes, or worse. The “New World,” however, is vastly different. It’s become a world where private equity firms invest millions of dollars in this hot new industry. It’s a world where law-abiding citizens can check into a pricey bed and breakfast for the weekend and legally smoke a joint while relaxing naked in a hot tub. It’s a world where chronically or terminally ill patients have access to a natural product that can help alleviate the symptoms of their diseases. It’s a world where building a lifestyle brand like Apple or Starbucks is a very real and likely possibility. This type of brand is exactly what entrepreneur Christian Hageseth set out to achieve. Throughout Big Weed, you will learn Hageseth’s story as he became a major player in the cannabis industry, telling you the ins and outs surrounding the world of weed, and how he turned Green Man Cannabis into a multi-million dollar business.

There are two industries around the world that are on the cusp of exponential growth… The first is crypto currencies and assets like Bitcoin, and the second is grass, ganja, the reefer, mary jane, aka, marijuana. Thanks to the states of Colorado and Washington, the doors were opened to the recreational legalization of cannabis in 2012. Since then 47 out of 50 states have legalized marijuana sales for medical use, while 11 have made it fully legal for sale recreationally. But those laws are changing incredibly fast as the general public’s perception of marijuana has started to change, and as these state government’s begin to the see the considerable amount of tax revenue being generated by this new industry. Within the next few years, the recreational sale and use of cannabis will be legalized across the country. Just like Crypto, this decriminalization process has kicked-off a new gold rush for savvy, forward thinking entrepreneurs. The race to capture the next $100 Billion market has begun, and today we’re joined by one of the biggest players in the industry, Christian Hageseth. Christian is the Founder of Green Man Cannabis, which is an award winning cultivation and dispensary company out of Colorado. Today, Christian is creating the first dispensary franchise through the ONE Cannabis Group, and they will be taking the company public in Q1 of 2019. Whether it’s creating your own line of CBD supplements, buying a One Cannabis Franchise, or simply investing in the stock of these companies as they start to go public, the opportunities this new industry is creating for entrepreneurs like you, are absolutely endless. If this is an industry that you’d like to learn more about, and learn quickly, then I’d recommend picking up a copy of Christian’s book, Big Weed. In a nod to Big Oil, Big Tobacco and Big Alcohol, Big Weed will bring you up to speed on every facet of the industry, and give you a basic lay of the land so you can start to understand it, and identify opportunities. So without further ado, please help me welcome, Christian Hageseth. [7:52] The cannabis industry has actually been around for a while now California having legalized it in 1996 and Colorado in 1999. [9:07] One of the biggest challenges with a cannabis business is getting financial backing through banks and credit unions. [13:36] ONE Cannabis is a fully-vertical marijuana business meaning that they are involved in the process from cultivating the product to retailing it. [16:40] ONE Cannabis didn’t even begin considering the franchise model until they had eight years of experience in the industry and fully ensuring they had mastered their craft. [22:13] Currently, ONE Cannabis is focused on expanding into California. Once they overcome some franchise registration hurtles, they will benefit from having ample amount of cultivation areas for their product. Exercise for Parkinson’s disease has three functions: aerobic conditioning; strength training, and neuroplastic change.
To shape your inner mind, you have to know what’s there. Sort it out. Make choices. Add new merry tracts. (Sad to say, it’s not so easily done. But we will get there as we meander through our various cups of tea.)
There are alternative treatments for those with Parkinson's Disease. Listen to Dr. Christian Hageseth's personal journey and success in arresting this disease without taking prescription meds. I am your host, Dr. Christian Hageseth. A retired psychiatrist, I have had motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease going on six years now. My non-motor symptoms for nine. Why I am doing this is because I do not take any medications for PD and I function at a very high level. I am reaching out to my fellow Parkies (are you comfortable with that name?) to share what works for me. To provide encouragement, education, understanding, latest and greatest things coming down the pike, and those that should be trashed forever. As my show progresses I will interview you—Parkinson’s People. I will engage in monologues that I intend to be brief and to the point. I will interview experts including traditional medical providers and alternative practitioners. I start with one core belief. I proclaim there is only one person who can make your PD better. Who’s that, you ask? It’s not your neurologist, your alternative healer, or your care partner. No. The only person who can improve your PD is YOU! Let’s get going.
Dr. Christian Hageseth, a 75-year-old retired psychiatrist has had PD for 5 ½ years. He tried three medications briefly early in his illness, but stopped due to side effects and expense. The day after his diagnosis he started studying yoga and now practices it daily. For exercise he does what he calls Mindful Power Walking and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT, also called Tabata). Finally, he has studied Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and meditates for 45 minutes each morning. He has fewer motor symptoms that are less severe since the time of his diagnosis. Last year he hiked up a 14000-foot mountain peak in Colorado. When meeting people for the first time most cannot tell he has PD. He now feels it’s his mission to train other Persons with Parkinson’s (PwPs) how to reduce their medications, reduce some motor symptoms, and live a fuller life. His program is called Integrating the BodyMind. www.sweatingoutpd.com
