Claire and Rachel take some time with outgoing Regent President and resident penguin fanatic, Dr. Jeff Greenman to look back on his tenure since 2015. They hear about Jeff's student experience at Regent, the joys and challenges of leadership, why he loves Regent students, the projects that he has spearheaded and seen to fruition – from student housing  projects to the Master of Arts in Leadership, Theology and Society, and some of his quirkier traits and trademarks! It is a deeply hopeful conversation, which emphasises the importance of theological education and humble leadership in our contemporary moment.Jeff's BioDr. Jeffrey P. Greenman is a distinguished theologian and educator, currently serving as the President and Professor of Theology and Ethics at Regent College. He is the first alumnus to hold this position, having earned his Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Regent College in 1988. His academic journey also includes a Bachelor of Arts from Albion College, a Master of Arts from the University of Oxford, and a PhD in Religious Ethics from the University of Virginia. ​Before becoming President in 2015, Jeff held significant roles at Regent College, including Academic Dean and Executive Vice President. In 2024, Jeff Greenman announced his decision to retire in June 2025, concluding a decade of leadership at Regent College. He continues to be actively involved in teaching, writing, and speaking engagements, focusing on Christian ethics, spiritual formation, and leadership development. I return after a three week hiatus with my the narrative of my experience at the Madrid Airport of the recent electric grid failure, which allowed me the chance to explore the abundant wonders that abound around the Plaza de España area. As I walked with my eyes wide open, I met face to face, with Green Men and Women, adorning the magnificent plazas built centuries ago. He remains eloquent, as well as his consorts, Green Women I also found. They all had plenty to say about our mounting man-made disasters and failures. They reminded me to continue voicing his messages and the fascinating stories about their historical evolution and periodical appearances in ever-novel disguises as humanity's paths and our storytelling natures evoke his presence in transformative manifestations, which include contemporary efforts to awaken our Green conscience.

It is May which means a whole host of things from Bealtaine to the emergence of the Oak King and Holly King, the Green Man, Persephone, the May Queen and other figures associated with rebirth and fertility. So, in honour of these celebrations and folk figures, we turn to the Welsh Mabinogion, a collection of stories from the 12th-13th centuries. We celebrate the many rituals of rebirth and Easter, as well as Earth Day, which will be celebrated on April 22nd, by resuming our journey with the Green Man. Starting with the creation of a work of art that allowed me to reconcile the continuous cycle of death and rebirth. we follow the wondrously  mysterious origins of the archetypal figure which embodys the unfolding cycle of greenness and growth, we review his undying spirit and gifts and the challenge he poses for each one of us and humanity as a collective. We are invited to honor him with a walk in the woods, creating our own version of his foliage surrounded head, or even a shrine or a garden to replenish our days with color, inspiration and purpose. This episode was originally aired March 25, 2022 Join this "fruitful" and enlightening conversation with tree crops specialist, horticultural historian and agroforestry practitioner Eliza Greenman as she explains the evolution of the apple, horticultural tree crop history and shares her love for fruit exploring. A creator of niche products, Eliza is passionate owner of charcuterie company, HogTree, and is working towards the goal of creating orchard systems that function symbiotically with livestock to replace costly livestock feed. After a time pruning apple trees on an island off the coast of Maine, paired with her time abroad in Germany in apprenticeship with an apple grower and a formative research trip to Asia, the homeland of fruits and nuts, Eliza found her calling and became single- mindedly obsessed with apples. Now she is an advocate for natural wildlife practices and indigenous systems, stressing the importance of eating in season and shying away from global commodities.
