In many elections across the nation this year, including the presidential election, Republican candidates over-performed relative to the expectations going in. That included the race for Congress in New York's 24th District. Polls showed Incumbent John Katko (R-Camillus) and Democrat Dana Balter in a dead heat going into the election, but Katko won the race by tens of thousands of votes. This week, Grant Reeher talks with Balter about what happened in her race and others.
The race for central New York's 24th Congressional District promises to be very competitive, as it was in 2018, where Rep. John Katko (R-Camillus) defeated Democratic challenger Dana Balter by about 5 percentage points. This year, Balter is challenging Katko again. She joins Grant Reeher to discuss her campaign and why she says a change is needed.

i am #UnapologeticallyJosh and THIS is #TheUprising on Straight Independent Radio and 97.1FM in Waterloo, Iowa! Do you have questions for the candidates? Leave your questions in the comment section and i will have answers LIVE TONIGHT at 10pm (EST), when i sit down with Dana Balter, primary candidate for NY Congress-24th District! Dana Balter knows the importance of making sure everyone in our society has a fair shot at success. From the time she was a child, Dana has been a fierce advocate for her brother, who has cognitive disabilities, to make sure he had the resources and opportunities he needed to thrive. Her commitment to fighting for the underdog drove her to a career in disability services, where she began as a teacher and soon became the director of education for a disability services nonprofit. Through her work, she helped hundreds of clients and their families who grappled with access to proper support. Dana wanted to understand how to dismantle the systemic barriers that stood in these families' way, so she returned to school to study public administration. She went on to teach at the university level, most recently teaching public policy and citizenship at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. In 2018, Dana ran an unprecedented grassroots campaign in NY-24, raising record sums of money and coming closer to defeating John Katko than anyone ever has before. Dana's platform is here: https://electdanabalter.com/issues/ People for Dana Balter *this is NOT an endorsement of this candidate.
