President Trump says he no longer feels obligated to “think purely of peace” in his pursuit of Greenland. Trump criticized Denmark for failing to defend the island from Russia and China, and said the U.S. must focus on national security. Meanwhile, Denmark increased its military presence, sending troops to Nuuk and western Greenland. Trump also wrote on Truth Social that he had a very good telephone call with Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of NATO, and said he agreed to a meeting of various parties in Davos, Switzerland.More than 100 cars and several semi-trucks were sprawled in a pileup all over a Michigan interstate for hours on Monday, after intense lake effect snow bands lash out in the Midwest and the Great Lakes region. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said there were no fatalities and ten people suffered minor injuries. The Midwest is also experiencing dangerous subzero wind chills, with frigid temperatures expected to affect many parts of the U.S. soon. The Trump administration is highlighting its immigration enforcement in Minnesota. Homeland Security says 10,000 criminal illegal immigrants have been arrested in the state. Meanwhile, the administration is challenging a judge's restrictions on ICE agents' interactions with protesters.

Trump Shocks Wall Street with 10% Credit Card Cap—Even Elizabeth Warren Agrees!

In a move that's rattling big banks and surprising even political rivals, President Trump has proposed a bold new economic reform: a one-year cap on credit card interest rates at 10%, set to take effect on January 20th. On this episode of Good Morning NTD, host Kerry Dunst is joined by economist Christian Briggs, CEO of Hard Asset Management, to unpack the full impact of this headline-grabbing announcement—and what it means for working Americans.Briggs doesn't mince words: this is one of Trump's most progressive economic policies to date, even drawing praise from none other than Senator Elizabeth Warren, long known for her anti-bank rhetoric. What makes this policy so potent, Briggs explains, is the timing. With over 61% of Americans carrying credit card balances beyond 12 months and the average interest rate hovering near 20%, the 10% cap could deliver massive relief for middle-class families—especially those hit hardest by post-pandemic inflation and holiday debt. But it's not all smooth sailing. Briggs walks through the risks too—particularly how lenders might respond by tightening access to credit for lower-tier borrowers. While high credit score consumers stand to benefit the most, some small businesses and lower-income families may see reduced access to new credit lines. Even so, Briggs maintains that the overall impact could be “a windfall for consumers”—offsetting the pressure of Trump's tariff strategies and cushioning everyday Americans from global price shocks. The most fascinating twist? Trump and Warren reportedly spoke directly about the plan, and she praised his move. Briggs calls it “an opening for the GOP to expand its base” and a political masterstroke that could help the Republican Party reach voters it traditionally hasn't. As Briggs puts it, “This helps the masses, not just the classes.”Whether you're a small business owner, a working parent, or a political analyst tracking every 2026 campaign move, this conversation is essential listening. With $1.7 trillion in credit card debt hanging over the country and the Fed still weighing interest rate cuts, Trump's unexpected pivot toward populist economic reform might just be the policy that flips the script—and the next election.

But the American Federation of Government Employees, which represents TSA staff, is seeking an emergency order to block that action. TSA says it will delay the effective date to January 18, to allow for arguments over the motion. The judge in the case had already issued a preliminary injunction blocking an earlier attempt by TSA to eliminate the union agreement. December 29 is upon us and this is perhaps the final sonic edition of Charlottesville Community Engagement for the year. This certainly is the antepenultimate day of 2025, a year in which there is still much to say in the coming week or so before 2026 begins to find its identity. In any case, today there are four editions of stories that have already gone out in newsletter form but are now assembled with soundbites, actualities, and the occasional double-breath.I'm Sean Tubbs, and I'm glad for those who take a listen. In this edition:* Charlottesville City Council briefed on potential new areas of spending on housing (read the story)* Charlottesville City Council agrees to sell cul-de-sac to Jefferson Scholars Foundation (read the story)* Albemarle Supervisors get a briefed on the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, also known as the annual audit (read the story)* Charlottesville's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report to be published by December 31 (read the story)Charlottesville Community Engagement is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Today's shout-out: Town Crier ProductionsWhen I was a kid decades ago, I dreamed of creating my own newspaper or having my own radio show. I lived on a cul-de-sac in a neighborhood in a community that was not the most exciting, but my imagination put me on the pathway to now when I've somehow managed to cobble together a newsletter with over 4,600 subscribers. This week I'm trying to clear out the backlog from 2025 which includes at least a couple of newsletters of regular content before there will be a series of editions that look back on the specifics of the year.My upbringing as a first generation American fueled me with a passion to understand a country so different from where my parents had grown up. For an entire career now I've been powered by a desire to know what's going on, and to share what I know with people who also are curious, thoughtful, and independent. What I am not is a business person, and the growth of Town Crier Productions has been slow and steady because my focus is on putting forward as much information as possible while pointing people to the places where they can contribute should they want to do so. Here are some current options:* Take out a paid subscription to Substack with the yearly option being the most beneficial* Consider a Patreon contribution to support more than just this newsletter* Send a check to Town Crier Productions, PO Box 1754, Charlottesville, VA 22902* Consider becoming an experimental sponsor of both this newsletter and Information Charlottesville.I'm still dreaming of what this could all be, knowing I've got a lot of growth to do in terms of being a business person. I believe there is value in what I do each and every day, and I am able to pay my bills because there are enough of you who agree. If you're not sure, please keep reading and listening to the content. Share with friends. Share links to social media. By the end of the night, April, who historically hasn't felt fully comfortable claiming that kind of freedom, finds herself laughing, connecting, and eventually agreeing to a dinner date with a newly divorced single guy from their extended lifestyle circle. What follows is the real conversation: how do you support your partner's autonomy without turning it into pressure, surveillance, or “constant check-ins”? Scott shares how past attempts at separate dating triggered anxiety and control impulses (even when “nothing” was happening), and how this time felt different, calmer, steadier, more grounded. Together they unpack the difference between intuition vs. projection, explore “The Bad Prophet” (mind-reading, future-forecasting, spiraling), and practice “The Unprophet” (staying present, responding only to real data, honoring privacy). They also dig into a powerful desire question April is building her Hedo keynote around: “What would I do if there was nobody I could disappoint?” The episode closes with upcoming Naughty Gym events and a thoughtful note on protecting partners' anonymity, because this show isn't about sex-capade storytelling, it's about the real emotional skills non-monogamy demands. It’s a headline three decades in the making. The executor of the O.J. Simpson estate has publicly acknowledged it owes $58 million dollars to the family of Ron Goldman, but the most the family might ever see would be between $500,000 and $1,000,000, and even that might be a long shot. The Goldman’s have to essentially “get in line” with other creditors, including the IRS, following the death of Simpson last year. This all stems from the civil case where Simpson was found liable for the deaths of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson, the jury awarding the families $33.5 million dollars at the time. Right now, Simpson’s estate is auctioning off Simpson’s remaining memorabilia to try and raise enough cash to pay down its debts, but turned down a very high profile offer from Kim Kardashian, who was looking to purchase a very sentimental item for her family.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
