Fareed Zakaria reports that Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Khomeini has been killed amid U.S.-Israel attacks under “Operation Epic Fury,” with Trump urging Iranians to overthrow their government and promising continued bombing despite recently ongoing nuclear talks that Oman said had made breakthroughs. Zakaria argues the war lacks clear legal and strategic grounding, that airpower rarely achieves regime change, and that unilateral action undermines rules-based order, while Iran's weakness and regional backlash—especially after strikes on Gulf states hosting U.S. assets—may not translate into Trump's stated aims. Guests discuss the decapitation strikes, the likely next targets including Iran's naval forces and IRGC mid-tier leadership, and the risk of leadership-targeting becoming more common. What happens when our obsession with being better than everyone else destroys both who we are and how we relate to each other? Dr. Miroslav Volf joins us to talk about his new book The Cost of Ambition and why America's comparison culture, achievement addiction, and hardening tribal identities are setting us up for something dangerous. Volf witnessed neighbors turn on neighbors during the Yugoslav wars, and he's seeing the warning signs again—right here, right now. We dive into how striving for superiority traps us in an unstable cycle of pride and inferiority, why our worth can't be based on achievement, and what it means to trust in our naked humanity as the site of God's gift rather than our endless performance metrics. From social media's algorithmic comparison engines to the terror of trusting Jesus to raise our kids, this conversation cuts deep into the spiritual crisis of modern life and points toward a different way—one grounded in the self-giving love of Christ rather than the desperate scramble to stay on top. You can WATCH the conversation on YouTube Dr. Miroslav Volf is the Henry B. Wright Professor of Theology at Yale Divinity School and founding director of the Yale Center for Faith and Culture. Born in Croatia, he lived through the Yugoslav wars—an experience that profoundly shaped his theological work on reconciliation, identity, and belonging. He is the author of numerous influential books including Exclusion and Embrace, Free of Charge, and his newest works The Cost of Ambition and Glimmerings (co-authored with poet Christian Wiman). Widely recognized as one of the world's most respected theologians, Volf's work bridges the academy and the church, helping Christians reflect on faith, public life, and what it means to follow Christ in fractured times. You can listen to our previous conversation on the podcast here: Faith in the Public Square in the Era of Trump. UPCOMING ONLINE LENT CLASS: Jesus in Galilee w/ John Dominic Crossan What can we actually know about Jesus of Nazareth? And, what difference does it make? This Lenten class begins where all of Dr. John Dominic Crossan's has work begins: with history. What was actually happening in Galilee in the 20s CE? What did Herod Antipas' transformation of the "Sea of Galilee" into the commercial "Sea of Tiberias" mean for peasant fishing communities? Why did Jesus emerge from John's baptism movement proclaiming God's Rule through parables—and what made that medium so perfectly suited to that message? Only by understanding what Jesus' parables meant then can we wrestle with what they might demand of us now. The class is donation-based, including 0, so join, get info, and join up here. Send us a textWhat if the most political act in history was God taking on human flesh? In this episode, Bishop Wright has a conversation with former Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby to explore what it means to follow Jesus in a complex, pluralistic, and politically charged world. Drawing on the Incarnation, John 14, and decades of global ministry, Welby reflects on human dignity, solidarity with all people, and why an apolitical Jesus is no savior at all. From interfaith neighborliness to immigration, public witness, and the courage required of the church today, this episode invites listeners to imagine a faith rooted in Christ, lived boldly in context, and marked by hope, humility, and love. The claim is simple and bracing: following Jesus means honoring the dignity of every person and showing up where life is fragile, complicated, and real. Listen in for the full conversation. Justin Welby was Archbishop of Canterbury and leader of the Anglican Communion from 2013 to 2024. Born in London in 1956, he was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he studied history and law. For 11 years—five in Paris and six in London—he worked in the oil industry; his booklet, Can Companies Sin?, drew on this corporate experience and evolved from his dissertation at theological college. He was Bishop of Durham, Dean of Liverpool Cathedral, and Canon of Coventry Cathedral, whose international reconciliation work he led for five years. As Archbishop of Canterbury, he set three priorities for his ministry: a renewal of prayer and religious communities across the Church; supporting churches and Christians to be agents of reconciliation and peace-making in places of conflict; and encouraging and inspiring Christians to share their faith. In today's episode I review a pair of editorials from The Christian Chronicle and a related blog post from The Doc File. Each article treats Christian responses to ICE and immigration enforcement attempts in Minnesota and elsewhere. My main point is this: we the Church must be honest when we critique political systems, agents, and representatives–we cannot fall into the trap (and idolatry!) of partisanship. I referred to the following articles in this video: Kelly Walden, "ICE has gone too far": https://christianchronicle.org/icetoofar/ Jack Wilkie, "Anti-immigration, pro-love of neighbor": https://christianchronicle.org/iceandlove/ Luke Dockery, “Wise as Serpents, Gentle as Doves: Christian Engagement in the Public Square”: https://lukedockery.com/2026/02/02/wise-as-serpents-gentle-as-doves-christian-engagement-in-the-public-square/

Bob talks first , the following will be read by a voiceover. This is an important message for all OTR listeners, and I want to make sure I reach everybody. This is also in the description, but it's presented verbally next. This will bring everyone up to date on the exciting rebrand starting January 27th at midnight. So, what's happeningOTR – Achieving Mental Health for Real is heading into a major rebrand on January 27th, where we're calling the brand OTR Universe — the structure this project was always meant to have.First the new logo, which you may have seen on the social sites.Plus, OTR Universe will be anchored from a brand-new home website, which becomes the listener portal. The entire site gets a full rebuild in the rebrand, including new and updated menu names and functionality, but will still have the links to the popular podcast player as before. The following describes the functionality accessible from the new home main web page:OTR Public Square — the new front doorThis is where people show up, speak freely, and participate. This is a repurpose of the Ki-Fo dot com site currently called Real Plus. The site is design to be for a sponsor site and has places to donate all over the site, I took out all that I could, but to cut corners I needed a ready built site to establish a community posting and message board which will be renamed to Public Square in OTR Universe and accessible from the main home siteI have several objectives with OTR Universe. Mostly to reach listeners to come share your stories and meet others that will validate them, and that's what it's all about. Be a part of OTR Universe and achieve mental health for real,To thank you for trying to connect, we will give you free Real Premium for at least a full year to try the benefits and decide if you want to renew for another year for six cents a day. You can activate now by sending an anonymous post addressed to staff or Public Square. Write that you want it for free and you will actually not start the year until all benefits are rolled in one at a time. You will receive each benefit as soon as there rolled out, full details ahead. I just ask you to consider it, so we can form a small healing community. This is my dream but only your courage and support can make it come true. There will be two ways to post to Public Square1, Anonymous PostingZero tracing information. You post. We receive only the post. You can choose to send it to staff only, or you can have it appear on the Public Square post page. This process is not posted live since it's not tied to the Public Square directly. So, no logon or email needed. It will be transferred to the Public Square post page throughout the day automatically. It's the only way to do totally anonymous posting.2. Named Live PostingLive interaction with other Public Square users and staff.More features. More connection.Requires free sign up to Ki Fo.com with logon id name and password and any email address. The logon id does not have to be an email address. No obligation. No subscription. You can use a temporary email address and delete that email address after you sign-up — you remain virtually anonymous. It is a little more work, but it gets posted immediately. This process is available today from the home website, the above only details how it will be for the rebrand.Personal NoteI know the community thing is currently not popular and I understand. I felt embarrassed and shame before I first came out with my full name. All I'm saying is you may be carrying this shame weight around too long, it's really time you shared 101 percent anonymously. You have my word. The podcast app you listen to now takes more info from you. Because anonymous posting takes zero. Let it out,...

Send us a textIn this episode of The Public Square on the Pursuing Faith Network, Mike and Iggy sit down for a challenging and thoughtful conversation about faith, culture, and the direction Christianity is heading. As Christian events continue to grow outside traditional church spaces, important questions begin to surface about influence, intention, and what we're teaching the next generation. The discussion is respectful but honest, exploring where Christians may need to pause, reflect, and examine whether certain paths are drawing people closer to Christ — or slowly conforming to the patterns of the world. Personal experiences, hard questions, and surprising perspectives make this a conversation that doesn't offer easy answers, but invites deeper thought. This is one of those episodes that will challenge how you see Christian culture today — and where it may be headed.Support the show
