The problem we face now is that the ambition of the Supreme Court is to give as much power as possible to the executive branch because, ironically, they seem to be nostalgic for a king. In this episode of the Nonprofit Newsfeed, hosts George and Nick explore the intricacies of recent mass mobilizations and the challenges facing nonprofits. The podcast focuses on the recent "No Kings" protests, a massive mobilization across all 50 states with participation from an estimated 5 to 7 million people. Nick shares his firsthand experience at the New York protest, emphasizing the diverse and passionate turnout despite the rain. The event's success hinged on strategic digital organizing through platforms like Mobilize Us and support from major organizations such as the ACLU and Indivisible. A key takeaway is the power of peaceful protest and the impressive organization behind such large-scale events, including a comprehensive 17-page guide for rally hosts. The discussion transitions to the broader theme of attacks on civil society, both domestically and globally. An article from Lawfare highlights how authoritarian regimes worldwide, including those in Nicaragua, Turkey, Hungary, and Russia, are suppressing civil society under the guise of national security. This pattern is mirrored in the U.S., where political rhetoric is increasingly used to justify crackdowns on nonprofits and civil liberties.

Trump's deportation plans have always faced a contradiction: he couldn't deport millions of immigrants without crippling essential industries and Republican business whose owners supported him. So Trump started granting exceptions; but that was before Saturday, the biggest one-day political protest in American history, protesting against him. On that same day, nobody came to his birthday parade, and in the middle of that night, Trump made an announcement on Truth Social, targeting blue cities – Harold Meyerson explains. Also: Saturday's ‘No Kings' protests, with 5 million people at 2100 events, was the largest single day of protest in American history. Leah Greenberg of Indivisible will talk about how the event was organized, and what comes next. Plus: The Medicaid cuts provide a lifetime opportunity for us to reach the 70 million people who did not vote and the 60 per cent of Trump voters who are not MAGA -- that's what Ai-jen Poo says. She's director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance and President of Care in Action, and a key labor organizer and strategist

Episode Summary:Today is June 14, 2025, a day that will live in infamy. A sitting United States president is hosting a military-style parade in Washington D.C. that every crack-pot dictator from Adolf Hitler to Vladimir Putin would admire. Making matters worse, since re-gaining power in January, Trump's regime has dismantled democracy, extended the power of the presidency, suspended habeas corpus, and unlawfully detained and deported thousands of immigrants. Trump's manufactured chaos is designed to evoke a violent response. “Following the example of other authoritarians, Donald Trump wants us to burn cars. He wants us to throw rocks. He wants images of chaos — especially violence against police or National Guard troops — to flood the evening news,” writes In These Times. He wants blood in the streets. We can't give it to him or he wins. In response to Trump's daily attack on democracy and his disgusting display of military might, a coalition of over 200 progressive organizations—including the ACLU, Indivisible, and the American Federation of Teachers—has organized a nationwide protest movement called “No Kings.” Millions of Americans are expected to turn out today at over 1,800 locations across the country, deliberately avoiding Washington, D.C., to emphasize grassroots, nonviolent resistance.Speaking truth to power and resisting the principalities and rulers of this world is the faithful response to empire. As God's people, resistance is in our DNA. According to pastor Robin Meyers in his book Spiritual Defiance, “Our Gospel was birthed in resistance to the brutal normalcy of the Roman Empire.” The more things change, the more they stay the same. Like the founder of our faith, we find ourselves living under the boot of an evil empire. How do we respond? What forms of resistance are available to us? Is violence ever justified? Contrary to what many assume, nonviolent resistance isn't meekness in the face of evil. It is the courageous and oftentimes creative task of disarmament. Nonviolent resistance is a way to fight against injustice without using violence. It is using the transformative force of love to resist oppression. The first Christians understood nonviolence to be the sin qua non of discipleship. So much so that there wasn't even a word for pacifism during the first four centuries of Christianity. To call yourself Christian meant you were universally nonviolent. Following Jesus then and following Jesus now means we will find ourselves in opposition to empire. In the following weeks and months, the need to confront Trump's evil regime will continue. But how we resist is just as important as the resistance itself. As tempting as it will be, returning evil for evil will only result in greater oppression. To help us better understand the transformative power of nonviolence, I'm joined on the show today by Dr. Jesse Nickel. Jesse gives a clear and convincing argument that the gospels present Jesus as a nonviolent revolutionary. What can we learn from the way Jesus resisted and confronting the empire of his day? Unlike his prophetic movement, will we return evil for evil? Will we fall into the imperial trap of fight or flight? Or, will we learn how to tap into the ancient model of nonviolent resistance to topple Trump's regime? As you go out today with courage to confront Trumpism, take this episode along with you. Listen to the plea for nonviolent resistance. Understand the power of taking on suffering rather than inflicting suffering. And rest in the peace and power that God has been dismantling empires for over 6,000 years. Amen. Please Follow us on social media (use the buttons below) and help us get the word out! (The Center Square) – Cities across politically blue Washington state are set to participate in this weekend's "No Kings Day" event, a series of nationwide protests and rallies against President Donald Trump's administration. The Saturday event is timed to coincide with a military parade planned in Washington, D.C. to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, which also falls on Trump's 79th birthday and Flag Day. The No Kings Day event, also known as the “Day of Defiance,” is being organized by grassroots political action groups, including Indivisible and the 50501 Movement, to protest the Trump administration's policies, which they describe as authoritarian.
After feeling demoralized by Trump's election, artist Julie Peppito researched how to resist authoritarianism and merged her studio practice with street activism—what she calls "artivism." Peppito, who is leading Saturday's No King's protest in NYC, believes artists are uniquely positioned to break through disinformation as messengers and visual communicators. We discuss her four-part formula for building hope: community, social proof, joy, and collaboration, plus practical advice on organizing art builds, leading protests, and turning your studio into a "hope-making machine." Kyle Olson from The Midwesterner exposes the dark underbelly of the so-called “No Kings Nationwide Day of Defiance” protests spreading across Michigan and the country. They reveal the radical groups behind the chaos—including Indivisible and the Party for Socialism and Liberation—and connect the dots to a broader Marxist revolution aimed at flipping Senate seats in 2026. The conversation also takes a sharp turn into national security concerns, with growing scrutiny on Chinese students at the University of Michigan linked to espionage, smuggling, and election interference. Olson warns this is just the tip of the iceberg, with CCP infiltration hiding in plain sight at top American universities.Get the stories from today's show in THE STACK: https://justinbarclay.comKirk Elliott PHD - FREE consultation on wealth conservation - http://GoldWithJustin.comJoin Justin in the MAHA revolution - http://HealthWithJustin.comTry Cue Streaming for just $2 / day and help support the good guys https://justinbarclay.com/cueUp to 80% OFF! Protest has long been a tool for change in American life. But in an age of political gridlock and viral outrage, what actually works? Leah Greenberg, co-founder of Indivisible— one of several progressive groups organizing “No Kings Day” protests —joins Audie to talk about their strategy, and how they are preparing considering the Trump Administration's reaction to ICE protests in Los Angeles. The globalist resistance, pro-America, media has been completely exposed as nothing more than a new form of mockingbird press. The big patriot leaders are in unison calling for the end of “third world immigration” and even “non-white immigration,” becoming the very thing the left accused them of all along - while ignoring the fact that Asians, for example, commit little crime, use few drugs, and are some of the top earners and contributors to the country. All the hopes and dreams of “promises made, promises kept,” are evaporating in real time, with few able to further justify the increasingly obvious: the downfall of the Republic has been monetized and archetypically framed. With riots all across the country, fears of a black and white racial war have instead manifested as Mexican and American; the fear of outright civil war has manifested as a problem-reaction-solution of absolute information control and military martial law in the name of defending the country. Now the “No Kings” movement has nationwide protests planned for June 14th, 2025, the day of Saturn. Rather than arresting the organizers behind that, and the riots via the communist Indivisible, the AG has instead sued a coffee shop for antisemitism. The protests are meant to resist the massive military parade and presidential birthday parade in Washington on the same day. Don't like it? You will be met with “very big force,” says the President, if you don't like his “big parade.” BIG beautiful bill anyone? Not even Roman emperors held military parades for their birthdays, but they did hold them for victories in battle. So either the Trump camp is totally delusional, considering nationwide civil war as victory, or the display is meant to put the final nail in the Constitutional coffin. It all culminates with the US suddenly pulling all nonessential staff from embassies across the Middle East and putting the country on high alert the same week. The word is Iran is prepared to strike Israel's nuclear sites and Israel is fully poised to strike Iran (thus, the Houthis are warning of war too), and regardless of what the fake Donald-Benjamin feud suggests, the US will sacrifice its own citizens for the jewish state, which itself will, under the Samson Option, destroy the entire world if it doesn't get its way. Hence, the fake (maybe real) threat of Benjamin Netanyahu circulating the Internet: “if we do fall, many parts of the world will fall with us.” *The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Co-hosts Robin Renée and Wendy Sheridan head back to the Blanket Fort this time to regroup, check in, and hide out. But there's not much actual hiding to be had from the firehose of news and unrest. They catch up on the intentional ways they each are staying sane through the mayhem -- painting, gardening, exercising, immersing in fiction, and curating the news for personal consumption among them. ICE raids, the National Guard, and the chaos stoked in Los Angeles can't be ignored, nor can thinking about ways to protest in the streets and elsewhere, wishing for the least violence and the greatest impact. They think about the role of their creative works and consider writing some "political earworms." Wendy might revive and complete one of her old songs, "Men of Stone." For the Timelime Cleanse that starts the show, Wendy is happy with her newly painted art storage box and Robin describes a jello mold drag relay race that was pure joy. The biggest Pièce de Résistance this time around is the upcoming No Kings Day on June 14th, while the Pope seems to have scheduled some counterprogramming of his own. Wendy reads from On Tyrrany followed by a discussion and Robin reads a new brief reflection/response piece, "Why So Much Pride?" Things to do: Join a June 14th No Kings Day protest: Indivisible, FiftyFifty.one/events. Stay safe and know your rights. With tanks rolling down the street in DC on Saturday and troops being deployed to LA, it's never been more important to come together in nonviolent action to exercise our First Amendment right to peaceful protest. That's what the organization Indivisible says about Saturday's National Day of Defiance – the nationwide “No Kings” protests – go to nokings.org to find one near you. Ezra Levin will explain; he's co-founder and co-executive director of Indivisible. Also: Who, exactly, is being arrested by ICE agents in Los Angeles? Why is the National Guard downtown LA? And What are the 700 marines Trump sent to LA supposed to do? Harold Meyerson will comment - he's editor at large of The American Prospect.Plus: Trump is not the worst president when it comes to constitutional rights and civil liberties; Woodrow Wilson was worse. Adam Hochschild explains why – starting with jailing thousands of people whose only crime was speaking out against the president. Adam's most recent book is 'American Midnight: The Great War, A Violent Peace, and Democracy's Forgotten Crisis.' (First recorded April 23, 2025.)
This week on Critical Arcade, Dave and Nick tap into their inner chakras and dive headfirst into the gorgeously animated, spirit-infused world of Indivisible. When teenage hothead Ajna finds her village burned to the ground and a mysterious power awakened within her, she does what any emotionally stable protagonist would do—she sets off on a globe-spanning quest for vengeance and self-discovery. Along the way, she accidentally starts collecting souls like they're Pokémon, storing an increasingly chaotic cast of characters in her mind palace like it's a supernatural Airbnb. Can Dave survive the spiritual and emotional growth demanded by Ajna's quest, or will he be too distracted by the fact that one of the party members fights with a giant living yo-yo? And will Nick ever stop trying to perfect-parry everything, including environmental hazards? Join them as they punch gods in the face, question cosmic morality, and try to remember which button makes you slide. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Those who seek to destroy democracy want us to feel overwhelmed, burnt out, hopeless and alone. Which is why we need each other for strength, camaraderie, and courage. As the Resistance on Andor say, “I have friends everywhere.” As we do too. Friends, fellow countrymen, and brave patriots who want what we do. A country that's free, fair, just and stable, and leaders who will represent us and fight back. If we can't find those leaders then we might, however reluctantly, have to become those leaders. Join me and Ezra Levin, as we discuss being part of the active resistance and building an army of pro-democracy warriors starting with No Kings Day on June 14th. Join Kosta and his guest: Aaron Cofer, Community and Event Organizer for Indivisible. Indivisible Upper Cumberland is a non-partisan, issues-focused grassroots community, promoting civic engagement to hold our elected officials accountable. In this episode: We have a lot of ground to cover in this episode, but I think there's one overarching question that sums up most of what we're here to discuss. Does protesting work? Whether you're on the right, left or center, we all want change. We're in a political climate the United States has never seen before, and it's overwhelming. How do in-person demonstrations whether they be protests, marches or simply meeting people with the same ideologies as you help to create political change? The First Amendment of the Constitution protects our freedom of speech, our freedom to assemble and our freedom to express views through protest. If this is true, why do so many people get arrested protesting?
Hello to you listening in Warsaw, Poland!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.I am deeply proud of my Polish heritage and being a lawyer. These times are tough on us all; but especially on judges, the last line of freedom's defense. Attacks on the independence of the judiciary are not just here in America; they are sweeping the globe taking varied forms ranging from the capture of courts to direct attacks and interference against judges and lawyers. Those behind the attacks know that the independence of judges - the judicial branch of government - is foundational to democracy.“Judicial independence is fundamental to the rule of law. The rule of law is fundamental to freedom. Freedom is fundamental to the protection of every citizen.” [John Macmenamin - Judge at the Supreme Court of IrelandThese are not my words. These are the words of John Macmenamin, a judge at the Supreme Court of Ireland who joined with Polish judges at the “1000 Robes March”, a unique event held in the name of judicial independence. It was the greatest demonstration of judges in contemporary Europe, with more than 30,000 people, including hundreds of judges from 22 European countries marching in solidarity with their Polish colleagues in the fight for judicial independence. The silent march in January 2020 was a reaction to proposed laws that threatened to undermine the judiciary's independence in Poland. "A Thousand Robes" is a short (12 minute) documentary film directed by Kacper Lisowski. The story is about mutual gratitude, focusing on the positive interactions between judges, lawyers, and the public. It highlights citizens who are moved by the judges' defense of their rights and lawyers who have experienced solidarity from ordinary people and European judges. The film serves as a warning against what dismantling the democratic mechanisms of the state leads to.Documenting this touching episode of the dramatic struggle for the rule of law that still lacks a happy ending in Poland, Kacper Lisowski also talks to the European judges participating in the march of a thousand robes. Particularly poignant is the voice of a Turkish judge who knows from experience what happens when such a struggle is lost.Click HERE to watch A Thousand Robes the film on YouTube.Maybe like me you will be moved to tears at what ordinary people can accomplish when they heed a call to action. This is what success looks like! If they can, we can! Let's march!CTA: Show up on Saturday June 14th to take part in a No Kings Rally near you. “Be Like Penny.” If you visit my current hometown of Cottonwood, Arizona, you'll see these three words displayed around town. Penny Smith was a friend to many and a living example of how everyday citizens can make a meaningful difference in their local communities. She passed away in 2021, but her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who know and love her, and also through The Penny Peace Project. In this episode, I'll introduce you to Julie Fernatt and Llama Habern, the founders of ROI (Rural Organizing Initiative). Thanks in large part to Penny's supportive efforts, in 2023, Cottonwood was a planned tour stop for a regional drag company. Evangelical religious leaders mobilized their communities to turn up in droves, and city council meetings became contentious, escalating to threats of violence toward city leaders and community members. That's when ROI and its partners organized a nonviolent response that effectively silenced right-wing agitators. Listen in to learn how they did it.ROI currently provides civic engagement and supports candidates for local and county offices. Julie & Llama share how community organizing clears channels of communication and helps to build lasting, non-partisan coalitions. We also discuss: running for local office, fundraising, and the upcoming No Kings protest.Local activism is accessible to all and with a little effort, we can all be more like Penny.Rural Organizing Initiative (ROI) is a 501(c)4 non-profit corporation operating in Northern Arizona. ROI promotes full participation in democracy by providing civic education and by supporting/coaching potential candidates for local and county offices. "Authoritarianism thrives when people are isolated and dependent — when food, energy, housing and safety are controlled by a handful of elites. But when communities feed each other, house each other, teach each other and protect each other — they are less dependent on dominant systems, which allows them to mount a more effective resistance. Such communities, then, don't just survive. They become ungovernable by any unjust governing body, regardless of who is in power. Not every system can be fixed. But every broken system is an opportunity to build something better. Because once you build it yourself — you never have to ask permission again." - Barbara PetersonThe Sources:Barbara Peterson's Article: https://wagingnonviolence.org/2025/05/building-alternatives-key-counter-authoritarianism/See if local actions are happening near you: https://www.mobilize.us/Indivisible is doing some cool work + has great action items: https://indivisible.org/couphttps://indivisible.org/resourcesWe should be calling our representatives (+ reminding them they work for us): https://5calls.org/GET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only.
