The Eagles failed to make it back to the Super Bowl this year, but, as The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane can vouch for during his trip to the Bay Area, the team is still dominating conversations around the league. That's because in the past week, the Eagles hired a new offensive coordinator, parted ways with a revered assistant, and, much to their relief, got word from their defensive guru that he'll be returning for another season. Jeff checks in from San Francisco to talk with The Inquirer's Olivia Reiner, as the two sift through what they've been hearing and what fans can expect now that the Eagles' coaching staff is rounding into form. 00:00 Jeff Stoutland's exit, and its “messy” handling 14:55 With Stout out, could Lane Johnson be next? 17:11 Why Vic Fangio came back 27:30 Jeff McLane talks with Klint Kubiak about pupil Sean Mannion 30:15 What Jeff and Olivia know about Mannion and his potential impact on the offense, Jalen Hurts 44:40 How the Eagles' coaching moves reflect on Nick Sirianni unCovering the Birds is a production of The Philadelphia Inquirer and KYW Newsradio Original Podcasts. In hour 3, Eliot Shorr-Parks joined the 94 WIP Midday Show to give his say on the current Eagles offensive coordinator search. He says that Sean Mannion is probably the favorite to land the job although he feels Mannion will not be the best fit. Shorr-Parks says that whoever takes this role will either be a risk-taker or a coach who is desperate. He also says that the Eagles fired Kevin Patullo because something had to change and someone had to go. The Eagles are interviewing Broncos QB Coach Davis Webb and former Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand for the job.

Education On Fire - Sharing creative and inspiring learning in our schools
Dr. James Mannion is distinguished authority on educational reform. He explains the concept of "backward design," a strategic approach to implementing school improvement by beginning with clear objectives and working backward to identify solutions for current challenges. Dr. Mannion shares insights from his recent publication, "Making Change Stick," where he emphasizes the necessity of engaging educators at all levels in the change process, thereby fostering a collaborative environment that enhances student outcomes. We explore the transformative impact of project-based learning and self-regulated learning on students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, demonstrating how innovative educational practices can yield significant improvements. Takeaways: The transformative impact of learner effectiveness on student outcomes cannot be overstated, particularly for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Implementing a backward design strategy is crucial in addressing current educational challenges and achieving meaningful change. The involvement of diverse voices in the decision-making process enhances the effectiveness of school improvement initiatives. Recognizing failure as an opportunity for growth is essential in fostering resilience among both educators and students. Cultural shifts within educational institutions require sustained efforts over a period of two to three years to be effective. Engaging students in arts and creativity leads to more profound learning experiences and enhances the overall educational environment. Dr James Mannion is a keynote speaker, teacher trainer, researcher, consultant and author with a passion for educational and political reform. He is the co-founder and Director of Rethinking Education, a teacher training organisation specialising in implementation and improvement science, self-regulated learning and practitioner inquiry. A former teacher of 12 years, James has an MA in person-centred education from the University of Sussex and a PhD in self-regulated learning from the University of Cambridge. This month, we head to the tropics and meet the Blue Iguana of the Cayman Islands! This endangered lizard is found nowhere else on the globe save for the island of Grand Cayman in the Caribbean, and just two decades ago, it's likely there were fewer than 25 animals remaining in the wild. This was a species that was functionally extinct, but thanks to the herculean efforts of a dedicated group of people, the Blue Iguana (Cyclura lewisi) has been brought back from the brink, with over 1000 iguanas now roaming the dry, rocky forests of Grand Cayman. In July of 2024 Bill traveled there to interview Fred Burton, the man many people credit as the main driver behind the effort to save this endemic species. This episode was recorded on July 25, 2024 at the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, North Side, Grand CaymanEpisode Notes and LinksFind ourt more about conservation of the Blue Iguana by visiting the National Trust for the Cayman Islands. If you want to support efforts to help the Blue Iguana, you can donate here.Check out Fred's book, The Little Blue Book: A Short History of the Grand Cayman Blue IguanaIf you ever find yourself in Grand Cayman, we can't recommend enough that you visit the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, home to the Blue Iguana captive breeding program.Sponsors and Ways to Support UsGumleaf Boots, USA (free shipping for patrons)Thank you to Always Wandering Art (Website and Etsy Shop) for providing the artwork for this episode.Support us on Patreon.Check out the Field Guides merch at our Teespring store.
