On Good Friday, the day we remember the torture and death of Jesus, we're tempted to look away. It'd be easy to. It's brutal, it's ugly, it hurts. But what if we stared that torture in the eye and we gave ourselves over to lament and mourn? I think it would make Easter Sunday all the more celebratory.
This second episode of the re-awakening returns in gratitude to Jeremy Stewart, the man and his art. The song Don't Look Away from the LIght is no doubt a form of 4th Cinema. This podcast is such. There are some beautiful surprises in this episode, including an appearance from Bagwan Osho Rajneesh. Sorry to spoil the surprise.

Liberating From Hate -- Building a World of Encounter, Not Confrontation
Drew Benton, Founder of Project Live Love and Director of Safehouse Outreach talks with host, Dawn Ely, about the homeless population, what it is like to be homeless, who are those suffering homeless, what they do and do not look like, how the realities challenge preconceived notions of what we think about those suffering homelessness, and what is needed to help those in homeless situations rise above. Host, Dawn Ely, also shares some of her eye-opening experiences with those in homeless situations. As Drew says at the end of the conversation, if we all took just one step towards informing ourselves by having just one conversation, we could make tremendous steps to solving many of the problems associated with homelessness. Don't turn away. Next time you are on the street faced with someone suffering from homelessness, choose to encounter them differently and hear some small piece of their story. We promise you, you'll be surprised, and you'll start seeing and understanding so much more about this circumstance and the people in it. Don't Look Away by Vincent Briscoe and Johann Rucker
It is easy to disengage from the world, to use the "Benedict Option." Unitarian Universalism requires that we not look away - that we are honest about the world and our place in it, and engage in making a better world for all.
The easy and comfortable thing to do is to hide and avoid. Just to act like it doesn’t exist. But what this does is it exacerbates the problem. In order for things to really change and improve, you need to acknowledge that they’re happening, and gain awareness on the issue.

While best known for her TV characters on Marvel’s Inhumans and Ballers on HBO, actress Serinda Swan, in real life, is turning the spotlight around. For years, she's raised awareness around global causes, activating the hearts and minds of people so they don't look the other way. Her more recent venture, Deedly, is a tech-based curriculum that enables students to learn about today’s important issues, while empowering them to take action. Storytelling is how our history has been passed down over thousands of years. Today we are bombarded with content, and our attention is strained as we sort through the trash. But powerful stories will always transcend it all.
