An in-depth review of the live action remake, Aladdin.
A kind-hearted street urchin Aladdin vies for the love of the beautiful princess Jasmine, the princess of Agrabah. When he finds a magic lamp, he uses the genie's magic power to make himself a prince in order to marry her. He's also on a mission to stop the powerful Jafar who plots to steal the magic lamp that could make his deepest wishes come true.
Päätimme katsella lasten kanssa näitä Disneyn live action remake leffoja, joten pitihän niistä myös päästä kertomaan mietteitään. Ensimmäisenä vuorossa Guy Ritcien ohjaama vuoden 2019 Aladdin, jonka pääosassa nähdään Will Smith henkenä ja Mena Massoud nimikkoroolissa eli Aladdinina. Ja koska kyseessä on Disney elokuva, niin yllätys yllätys se löytyy Disney+ palvelusta. Oletko nähnyt tämän? Mitä mieltä? Mitä mieltä olet muuten näistä Disneyn live action remake leffoista?

This week (Not So) Live from Asteroid G takes on a divisive work with a Love it or Hate It episode all about the live action Aladdin. We compare this film to the original animated edition, look at what Will Smith got right (and what was better with Robin Williams), and then try to decide if this film is necessary or a total misfire.

This week we're heading back to ancient Agrabah with a bagful of 2019 morals and revisions in the Disney live-action remake of Aladdin. Join your favourite Disney Podcasters – Ellie, and Ian - with Liam from Best Film Ever having to compesnate for the absence of Georgia and Ethan this week. Questions we asked this week include: Why did they change classic dialogue with the smallest of changes? Was there anyone besides Will Smith who could've played the Genie in an Aladdin remake? Does the new Jasmine song rip off an Abba classic? Why does the film rush through Act I and then overly pad the runtime in Act III? What are the rules about favours and wishes? Why don't they figure out the whole 'pretending to be a prince vs. making someone an actual sorcerer conundrum from the first film? and Why does Ethan hate the musical number for Prince Ali so much? If that wasn't enough for you, we've got some more content direct from friend of the podcast, Andrew, in our Pause for the Parks segment. So, catch up on some great Disney content and then join the conversation (@talkthemickey), Instagram (@talkingthemickey), or on our Facebook page (@talkingthemickey). If you comment, you may end up among our 'shoutouts of the week.’
This week's offering is the re-make of ALADDIN. After…mixed reviews, we talk about the ‘clean' visuals, what it feels Disney wants from a re-make, and how watching this involves something of the same pretence shown by the characters themselves. It's March, and you notice that the days are suddenly a little longer. The air is a bit warmer. You've made it through another dark winter. So what should you do? Watch a live-action remake of a childhood classic? Well, okay. But first, ask yourself: pasta hands, or sauce pits? In that moment a thousand sunflowers bloom in your mind's eye. Stars are born and collapse unto themselves as the cosmos whispers into your soul, "¿Por qué no los dos?" Be careful what you wish for. This episode we take a look at the 2019 live action reboot of Aladdin and compare it to the original, we discuss what works and what doesn't work, we also have a look at the upcoming Disney live action remakes as well as a pitch for an original movie starring some familiar actors.
Hey, do you love Aladdin? Do you love the Genie and Carpet and Abu? Well now they’re back, in soulless live-action remake form! Hooray. This episode takes a few twists and turns as we discuss the cultural space Aladdin occupies and how that would affect any rewrites or changes to the film. We also get into a deep tangent about the value of remakes compared to more original screenplays. It’s a good one, listen in!
For Episode 46, Chris and Alex take a magic carpet ride through the pleasures and problems of the recent musical fantasy Aladdin (Guy Ritchie, 2019). Joining them for a discussion of exactly how (and indeed if) it adapts Disney’s highly successful 1992 cel-animated musical is the film’s VFX Editor Myles Robey, whose work also includes the Harry Potter franchise and feature films Skyfall, Muppets Most Wanted, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and the recent 1917. Listen as they examine the production pipeline of a Hollywood blockbuster, including Previs, Postvis and the development of “Sketchvis” approaches in Ritchie’s remake; the application of live-action footage as a visual effect within a heavily digital feature; the logic of location shooting and the ‘grounding’ of computer graphics; Aladdin’s connections to the Classical Hollywood musical and its spectacle of staging; and the relationship between Will Smith’s star persona and screen performance.
