Everyone needs a Beach Boy break every now and then, and I'm happy as a clam to announce this sharp left turn with Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite, as we take a mutual descent into the heart of darkness. Our examination of every last triumphantly bleak release by post-punk progenitors Joy Division is a dependably in-depth celebration of this great band's “eerie spatially.”Here's just a few of the many things that Stuart discusses with Discograffiti in this podcast:An exploration of their early punk years as Warsaw; The band's feeling that producer Martin Hannett never properly captured their real sound in the studio;A side discussion about the successful bands of the 1960s who we feel are vastly overrated; The pricelessly uncouth way in which they kicked their original drummer out of the band;Whether or not this is Stuart's favorite debut album of all time; And an in-depth rundown of Unknown Pleasures and a bunch of early singles and EPs.Listen: linktr.ee/discograffitiI support a wife and a six-year-old son with Discograffiti as my sole source of income. Send us a textWelcome back to this week's episode of The Fixate & Binge Podcast! In this episode, I offer my defense of why binging is sometimes the BEST way to experience a show and there is no better opportunity than now to fully enjoy HBO MAX's runaway medical drama hit -- THE PITT starring ER's Noah Wylie.Trust me -- there is simply no better way to fully immerse yourself in one of the finest shows of 2025 than to binge it all in as little time as possible, and right now all episodes are available!I also share my reasons why not all remakes of beloved films are negative -- and profess my nearly 20-years love of my favorite band from Glasgow, Scotland, Mogwai, with their new documentary -- MOGWAI: IF THE STARS HAD A SOUND which is highly recommended to anyone who loves post-rock, instrumental music.Thank you for listening! Talking 16th century feuds with Iona Zajac this week. Dig deep. Lots of new music, a new album from Overhead, The Albatross on the way, lost treasures from Arms That Fit Like Legs, a class collaboration from Buck 65 and more. And I'm still trying to manifest those live Mogwai dates for Ireland….
49songlist:《What Kind Of Mix Is This?》by Mogwai

Le live est assuré par Mogwai avec "Fanzine Made Of Flesh", tandis que la reprise du jour met à l'honneur "Hong Kong Garden" de Siouxsie and the Banshees, revisité par Uffie. In this episode of Seeing Them Live, host Charles Berman interviews Giuliana Funkhauser, a transdisciplinary artist known for her innovative blend of digital code and synthesized audio to create immersive art installations. Giuliana, based on the U.S. East Coast, completed her graduate studies at the San Francisco Art Institute, concentrating on art and technology, with a particular interest in sound synthesis. Besides her artistic endeavors, she teaches courses on data sonification and video game development. Her collaborative projects include working with musical artist Elizabeth Verosa and visual artist Alison Tannenhaus, performing excerpts from their EP '2021' in events such as the 2022 New England Synthesizer Festival. Additionally, Verosa and Funkhauser's track is featured in the Rewoven Transmissions collection, a remix of Cathode Raytube's works.Giuliana's shares how she got introduced to music and her unique concert experiences, ranging from middle school outings to witnessing legendary bands like Everclear, Judas Priest, and Iggy Pop. She recounts attending the Radio 104 Fest and vividly describes how Everclear was not her favorite but ended up being the main act she saw due to time restrictions. A humorous and memorable moment emerges from a misunderstanding that led to her attending a performance by Mono of Japan instead of the expected European band Mono, a life-changing encounter that profoundly influenced her musical tastesGiuliana also narrates her experiences at the Halloween Industrial Music Fest during Hurricane Sandy, where she saw numerous notable acts like Author & Punisher and Theologian in an incredibly intense, weather-challenged environment. Her story culminates in recounting the remarkable Sunn O show, a visceral and intense performance where the sheer power of the sound and visuals led to a memorable audience connection.Throughout the discussion, Giuliana elaborates on her creative process, revealing how she and her collaborators use data sonification and visual cues to guide their live performances and improvisations. Listeners are invited to explore Giuliana's work further on her website gfunkhouser.com and through various platforms like Bandcamp that feature her recordings.BANDS: Animals, Author and Punisher, Big Brave, Bohemia, Butthole Surfers, Candlebox, Cathode Ray Tube, Cracker, David Linton, Dead Voices on Air, Dear Woman, Dishwalla, Everclear, Flock of Seagulls, Freeze Pop, Go Go's, Harpy, Iggy pop, Inkanti, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, King Gizzard, Lady Purge, Local H, Lush, Mogwai, Mono, Otto von Schirach, Police, Semisonic, Snowbeasts, Stabbing Westward, Sunn, The Pretenders, Theologian, Tony the Floyd Dementia, Uriah HeepVENUES: Club X, Radio 104 Fest PATREON:https://www.patreon.com/SeeingThemLivePlease help us defer the cost of producing this podcast by making a donation on Patreon.WEBSITE:https://seeingthemlive.com/Visit the Seeing Them Live website for bonus materials including the show blog, resource links for concert buffs, photos, materials related to our episodes, and our Ticket Stub Museum.INSTAGRAM:https://www.instagram.com/seeingthemlive/FACEBOOK:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61550090670708

On Eavesdroppin' comedy podcast this week, Geordie and Michelle look at two cults with very different agendas… Can you slap yourself to health? When Hongchi Xiao quit his life as a successful banker to instead spread the word as a guru of alternative therapy, Paida Lajin, people flocked to his workshops. Essentially, you slap yourself hard which removes the illnesses of your body to encourage healing and health. Except Xiao told diabetics to bin their medicine and keep slapping away, with tragic consequences. Listen now to find out more about this medical cult, what happened to some of his devotees and where Xiao is now…Would you eat at a cult café? The Yellow Deli in Katoomba, Australia, has a fantastic reputation for delicious food in a lovely atmosphere – but the proceeds fund an international cult called The 12 Tribes, which supports severe child discipline and female subordination. Listen now to learn more about the cult and why that Yellow Deli sandwich might leave a sour taste in your mouth…So pop on your headphones, grab a brown lemonade and join Geordie & Michelle for this week's episode, plus chit-chat about The White Lotus, the new Mogwai album and more, only on Eavesdroppin' podcast. Welcome back to another episode of Trve. Cvlt. Pop! the pop music podcast. On this weeks show we look at the best releases from the opening month of 2025. January is a traditionally slow month in music usually, but with new music from The Weeknd, Brooke Combe, Mogwai, FKA Twigs, MIKE, Jocasta, Midori Hirano, Boldy James and Fenland Drone Workshop. We also look at the nonsense that was the 2025 Grammy Awards (well done to the winners that we like though) and wonder aloud if that Black Sabbath show that has just been announced will actually happen.

Is 'Spirit Of Eden', the fourth studio album by British band Talk Talk, a deceptively understated masterpiece or an indulgent musical experiment gone awry? Rob and this week's returning guest Tom Lawery fall decidedly in the former camp. Released in 1988, the record is now often cited as the precursor to later so-called 'post-rock' albums by bands like Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Low and latter-period Radiohead. Was ein New Music Friday! Kim and Ket Stay Alive... Maybe: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast
Kim tells Ket about their next Holiday Horror Pick from their Patreon Sammies, GREMLINS! Yes, that's correct: Ket has never seen Gremlins. Ket was NOT ready for the cuteness… nor was Kim's womb. She is currently with child. Sorry… with Mogwai. Or with Moo Deng. She might also be pregnant with Moo Deng. She's fine with either. Most importantly, we'll learn if Ket will live or die in Gremlins. Oh! And Happy Yuletide to all!Dir.
